You won’t fool the children of the revolution." Gavin Monaghan, The Wizard of Magic Garden Studios (December 2018). Since Spring 2014, TheZineUK story of a music movement’s fraction has organically blossomed. A newer wave of talents, on and off stage, amidst an apparently mythical guitar bands renaissance. By 2018 the mainstream are really starting to sit up/catch up, but DIY have had to lay their own foundations in Austerity and that’s growing stronger through the necessity to break glass ceilings and keep growing past gate keepers. Independence. It’s encouraging to see Femme Powered equity for equality and support from all genders and backgrounds for these collaborations. Also for the ethos of Share The Joy to be growing is more positive news. Especially in a world where it’s still all about the money for the majority.
This issue weaves more chapters of essential, newer wave music industrious artists, industry, media, design, visualisers, Stage Style and technology - with #RockMusicPix © Lisa Perry, Elly Bailey, Lorna Cort, Paul W. Dixon, Lewis Evans, Sarah Gibson, Model D Photography, Alan Wells and Ange Cobham. As ever though, it’s mostly about funshine and friendship as finance (fine ants, we ARE busy). TheZineUK has seen a parallel entertainment industry emerge, with great potential. We are under no illusion that whenever success kicks in, it could all go tits up. Mind you, we are already perky. “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.” (Hunter S. Thompson)

COUPLES
10th February we were down the front at Camden Assembly for a five headed rocket of a show from Couples, recommended avidly to us by Benumu (this was their event, these sessions were new music supporting legend, by the end of 2018) and some of our rocking friends, The Velvet Hands. Instantly smitten by Couples. They emit new waves of intense immensity, like Suede’s offspring as punked up, space popping Clash rockers. Watch their space. Watch the spaces of all the above.
21st FebruaryWe catch the first date of Paul Draper’s (sold out) tour at Brighton Haunt. We (Lorna/Caffy) got to hear Mansun’s alternative classic album, ‘Attack Of The Grey Lantern’ in full (and performed to perfection), for the first time ever. WHAT a night. Many more successesfollowed over the year. Never a dull moment. Of course. Thanks for the Brighton and London passes, Paul, we totally enjoyed ourselves.
March 2018 - On the way back from seeing 485C be screamingly amazing, but The Old Blue Last was too dark for an amateur snapper. Instead, shot this awesome truth: Love Music Hate Racism. A few months later, at the Music Manager’s Forum with Pauly, I got to speak to these wonderful essential people face to face. TheZineUK story is built on this ethic. #LMHR

April 2018 “What’s more, none of them are the children of Oasis” Michael Hann’s article ‘The new wave of British guitar bands’ in the Financial Times mentions Goat Girl, Idles and Pale Waves. A fun and tipsy night catching The Bluetones rock out no end of classic guitar pop hits at an intimate gig . Big thank you Vintage TV! Hats off to The Velvet Hands who also supported them on tour‌ threads of this tale keep weaving.
Next, jump in a taxi of gigglers from The Bluetones gig in Kings Cross to Camden Monarch . BUGEYE are playing This Feeling Club. I may have sipped a little too much booze this evening (thank you lovely friends who put me in a cab which I fell out of, not long after, when I got home) but I was sober enough to know that their set was spot on. Disco beat punk rock that can turn any week night into a mini fest weekend. Additionally, BUGEYE support and promote their artistic peers. Activists that do this are are ring leaders in any music movement.
May The 4th be with you. Always thrilled to rock out on Star Wars Day, Manic Street Preachers at Wembley Arena was one of their best shows (and they’ve done quite a few!) Special guest on stage; The Anchoress. A great year for both classic and rising guitar bands to release albums and/or play live.

June 2018 There’s a long way to go with regards to female humans repped at festivals still, but illogical bollocks aside, it was ace that Bugeye headlined the return of iconic music bar, The Good Mixer at Camden Rocks Festival (who made some of their artwork from our preview). The festival was another resounding success. A few months later, The Camden Mix Up launched at this same venue, via Kick Out The Jams. Summer 2018 #FootballMusic England’s Government Team and supporters may be a disgrace but it’s Football Team and supporters did the whole British Isles proud.
