Always much develops each chapter. Last time, days before “Brexit Day” (29th March). BUT, we didn’t “British Exit” from Europe in the end. Postponed in this never ending con/fusion of daily being All Fools Day AND Halloween. It’s time to stop calling Britain “great” for now. A decade of SelfServatives’ corruption has made a far less green and pleasant land. Humanity fracked, while our planet’s burning and drowning. Culling music, youth clubs, arts, public services, education and hope to create future minions. I t’s not immigrants taking jobs, it’s machines and corporate greed. Slavery has been rebranded as zero hour contracts. To keep us conquered, we are sold lies as “news”. But we aren’t all buying into this. So, instead we SEX it! Escapism as reality. Last story book’s cover stars, Bugeye (image by Julia Woolams of 31% Wool), are some of the musical activists who are integral to the new music world Happenings. What happens next?

Caffy (TheZineUK Live Events/Diary)

TheZineUK’s last picture book finished on 19th March, 2019 by continuing the #FootballMusic theme started in Chapter 1. Simon Baker’s film ‘90 Minutes’ was premiered at Genesis Cinema, with the cast, crew and executive producer/football legend, Rio Ferdinand, in attendance. Rio told MOSES (the band who soundtrack the movie with six songs) that he digs their sound. It was a happy night. Simon loves their music. Describing himself as a "Poundshop Ken Loach" on his @elcardinale twitter, he also made their ‘Cause You Got Me’ video in August 2018. TheZineUK has memories of a chilled day in very hot weather. The world lost a golden socialist heart this Summer. Rest In Power, Simon Baker. An activist For The Many, his films - like ‘Our Town’ - will help to rebuild Britain. On 1st July, Jeremy Corbyn said;

“An unsung hero of our movement, Simon Baker, has died too young. He was a brilliant filmmaker who gave his time and talent to our cause through EL4C and Labour Voices. The greatest tribute people can pay him is to watch his work. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.” Find Simon’s work on line. It’s part of the #FertileEnvironment

20th March 2019 Friends. Caffy (myself, TheZineUK Events and Diary ) with the legendary Andy Ross at Boogaloo Radio (I did an interview on his show in the afternoon, That evening, joining Andy’s team at Steve Lamacq’s ‘Lost Alternatives’ launch and pub quiz Many lovely familiar faces there. (The Bluetones’ team won the quiz!)

TheZineUK is 5! (First uploaded Spring 2014). Friends came together to celebrate on 26th March 2019. Images from a story, increasingly coming to life, by Lisa Perry Photography

26th March 2019 Camden Monarch Rising alternative rock heroes, The Rezner, are a few days away from releasing their debut single, ‘Mickey’. Before their set for TheZineUK’s 5th Birthday gig, they are setting up for an interview with Louise Schofield TV after coming from Cornwall for the show.

Massive thanks to Zeenager, Louise, for being part of this tale (and coming to create when so busy). The next night she was on the red carpet at The National Film Awards and interviewing Idris Elba and Jo Brand backstage. One of our (many!) #MusicWomen #FuturePicks, the self starting Louise is, like the bands, one to watch. Hats off, also, to camera man, Sammy Jetter Kell for documenting yet another #NewerWave moment.

#MusicWomen - Like Lionesses they RISE. 26th March 2019 - Peggy From Earth introduces Rhiannon The Nightmare at Camden Monarch for TheZineUK’s 5th Birthday rock n roll show.

26th March 2019 : Loads of friends out to play with deux furieuses, The Rezner, Rhiannon The Nightmare, Peggy From Earth, Lisa Perry, Louise Schofield TV and TheZineUK, it really made our day. Camden Monarch is also the scene of #TheMusicPeopleParty December 2018 and, in December 2019, The Rezner are invited to return for that! Pic; Caffy

A full house are wowed by headliners, deux furieuses, and get to hear exclusive first plays from their second album, ‘My War Is Your War’. A phenomenal, rock dynamism, we are so chuffed that they have returned to play for us again.

Above; The Stage Style of Dizzy Spell. Ooh, those sparkly flares‌ And, this needs saying. There are always sparkly flares in our hearts when artists and audiences come to play with/for TheZineUK - on and off stage. On and off line. This is how our story and community have developed, over five years, into documenting just a fraction of under the radar, rock n roll art and style. Feels like everybody in the room is a star, sparkling brighter in these darker dystopian days. Love you/thank you! xx

5 Years Wild

MOMENTS

Saturday 30th March 2019. Up and at ‘em early for another #MusicTourism adventure. At the entrance to New Cross Station, yesterday’s gutter press, nearly in the gutter. Brexit didn’t happen yesterday, so on we SEX IT for a little longer. Also at the entrance to the station is an alternative gallery of a phone box. Ever evolving exhibition. “£-People” would charge you thousands to buy it as an “installation piece” from a hip space. Onward though, places to be, rocking to do…

Saturday 30th March. Return to a favourite location. Again! You Are Not Alone Festival A sold out triple stage treat in the city’s Northern Quarter. All proceeds raised (Over £2.6k!) to mental health charity Manchester Mind. #Yanafest definitely made me feel light. Beautiful vibes, wonderful people.

Saturday 30th March. You can’t see Cold Water Swimmers being superb at Jimmy’s in this pic, sorry, because I’m claustrophobic, but the calibre of bands today was shagtastic.

#Yanafest : Saytr Play stunning a packed and adoring Whiskey Jar

#Yanafest : The C33s are coming on in (powerful) leaps and bounds

#Yanafest : NIGHT - Manchester stars, Fred from Saytr Play, Dermo from Time For Action and British vocal legend, Denise Johnson, Saturday nighting at The Night & Day Cafe.

#Yanafest - …and DAY - Music fans outside The Whiskey Jar.

#Yanafest : Indie rockers, The K’s are on a roll at Night & Day Cafe

Until next time #YANAFEST! Next. More Night & Day:

#ArtBeat #MusicTourism - Night & Day Cafe in Manchester, an art-warming tale‌

Alternative rockers, MOSES are one of the threads in this tale. Art collaboration singles started with 'Cause You Got Me' in Autumn 2018. Paintings by Bucharest based illustrator, Ana Ban Ana are winning her a growing fan base internationally. Thank you to intrepid #MusicWomen Vanadian Avenue, (Malicia and Rita Dabrowicz - vigillant supporters and connectors of the independent music scene), for this positive story of art power; Rita crafted this gorgeous fan artwork in homage. Malicia recalls; "When we were in Manchester - we met Jan Oldenburg (the owner of the Night & Day Cafe) and we spoke about MOSES to him. He loved the band and asked Rita to send him the artwork.

(Continued - Page 2 of 3) He passed away before we were able to do it, but RIta sent the finished artwork to Night & Day and they hung it on the wall in the venue So next time you are in Manc, there is a picture of MOSES' single hanging at the iconic Manchester venue. The boys should know. Jan loved them and a bit of the band is now a part of the venue." Thank you; Jan, Vanadian Avenue, Night & Day, Ana Ban Ana and Manchester! Jan Oldenburg, who died in October 2018, is still very much legendary and loved across Manchester. Among the many tributes, the venue said "Calling Jan unique barely scratches the surfaces of how remarkable a man he was.He saw possibilities on Oldham Street when it was all but derelict, before the Northern Quarter had its name and before developers caught on. (From an article by I Love Manchester).

“M O S E S is about art and music simultaneously. Art is part of our story. It's something that we really care about, something that gives us energy and drive. We hope that step by step, as our story develops, the artwork will be something special and unique, a brand alongside our music and live performance. #MusicTourism Night & Day is an essential call into Manchester's Northern Quarter and a key location at the city's multi venue events like Yanafest and Off The Record. When TheZineUK called into the latter (in November 2017), this was our base meeting point.

Wednesday 3rd April 2019 - Croydon Inspired. See next pages.

Wednesday 3rd April 2019 Location: Lives Not Knives Charity HQ The Croydonist /CroCroLand mentoring and shadowing day.Joining creators Angela Martin and Julia Woolams are inspiring students, the band, Tiger Mimic and a mix of experiences; Mari of Get In Her Ears, Sarah of Bricks PR and, repping TheZineUK, myself, Caffy. After a bit of a nervous anxiety about being up to the task (my lovely Mum comes with me for a day out) it turned into a beautiful experience. From sharing ideas and knowledge and creating from the mutually rising talents, to the published CroCroLand Festival preview article, design and images ‘TIGERS CAUGHT IN CROYDON’ the following day! The truth is, I learned just as much from Rhiannon and Solomon (pictured here with Tiger Mimic) as I did from this day. Thank you both and Team CroCroLand!

DR WTF TARDIS time travel: Bram was wearing his Lives Not Knives T Shirt for The Camden Mix Up when Tiger Mimic supported deux furieuses at their album launch for ‘My War Is Your War ‘ in October 2019. Our tapestry weaves. TheZineUK’s five years of stories are not a set of grab ‘em then sod ‘em articles. This random diary also documents our skint luxury, Living The Dream, moments with under the radar stars through amazing anti austerity back stories. Many of their soundtracks would have graced 20th Century Top Of The Pops, Old Grey Whistle Test etc. Times and ideas change. Music passions remain… …As do unforgettable days in British Music heritage. After the mentoring, we got a sneak peek at the CroCroLand Festival site coming, with just two full days to go before the (sold out way in advance) big event! On the walk back to East Croydon station I spotted CRO CRO!

Friday 5th April, Some Might Say party at Nambucca, Holloway. Back again for more, and it’s another raging success for Sahera Walker, one of the #MusicWomen shaping the now and future - and so good to catch the poptastic Arcades again. I’m compiling these images during Winter of Discontent 2019, and Sahera is deservedly The Rock n Roll Queen of Brick Lane, with London’s hottest new venue; Werkhaus. WHAT a space… and what a creative talent.

Welcome to Peggy’s World! Above, Peggy from Earth with Sahera. Below Disco MarkY and Peggy. (Apologies for the quality of the diary snap shots. I am no photographer, but I hope you feel the moments. The best images in TheZineUK are from a coolest collective of contributing talents from Chapter 001 onwards, across the site/social media, photography, filming, presenting, design and producing talents. Get involved. Hire the artists on our pages!

Heroic. Historic.

MOMENT. Art : Julia Woolams Beat : CroCroLand

Punk heritage. That absolutely ROCKED!

Officially the most surreal day and night in a hotel on Saturday 6th April 2019, CroCroLand was Unitqulture in action. Bram and Jess of Tiger Mimic are in the house!

CroCroLand - the multi stage festival was busy from the get-go. TheZineUK are absolutely honoured to be part of this event - and still buzzing!

Welcome, all Wonderclass!

CroCroLand : Foxy! Feral Five

CroCroLand got the funshine moving from the get go, brilliant audience - the festival galvanised interdependent promoters and supporters of new music. Allies who give thrilling new talent a chance to get to wider audiences and bigger stages. Independent media documenting for posterity. Friends that couldn’t be there in person shared awareness and helped sell the event out in advance. A special mention for long time champion guru/scout/presenter, John Kennedy, of Radio X. One of the first people to arrive on site, he didn’t leave until the final note had been played. Down the front all day and night at so many sets. On Sunday 7th April, John tweeted; “Congratulations to @crocroland for an amazing day yesterday! Fantastic line up & lovely friendly atmosphere! A credit to everyone involved from crew to bands to crowd! Just brilliant!”

CroCroLand was playful and a chance to hang out with and catch up with mates. This was a Couples, Benumu, Pink Cigar moment outside. Edd Whyte looks pensive!

TheZineUK story would not be the same without artists who support other artists. Anita Maj and Sisteray are a case in point. The latter were playing a CroCroLand set (and had introduced us to BERRIES via their own Welcome to the Monkey House club nights). There were SO many familiar faces out in force that although CroCroLand was held in three function rooms, it felt like one big house party. A wealth of reporting was created, on and off stage. As for memories, it feels like anybody who was part of this day and night, won’t forget it. Talk about Share The Joy!

CroCroLand : The wonderful Emily Magpie

CroCroLand - An instant new favourite, Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Something

Angela Martin - Busy bee! cofounded Croydonist with Julia Woolams (of 31% Wool who created the generic artwork for the festival marketing and stage sets). Croydonist had been curating this event for around a year, before the site build, mentoring day and festival. They also organised the informed, friendly and helpful crew. Angela played a sparkling set (lead singer/guitarist of Bugeye) and still kept a welcoming smile for us all. How on earth are you doing this super woman? In this pic, it looks like one of today’s star turns are messaging about their imminent arrival, while in the background another band make their way up to Production.

CroCroLand : Super Women Central. Hi Katie Owen!

CroCroLand Rockers : A BERRIES x Weekend Recovery supergroup!

Kath & The Kicks, Jemma Freeman and the extended community vibes of the CroCroLand community

CroCroLand poptastic : Drusila

Bang Bang Romeo at CroCroLand. Wow.

CroCroLand : Candid shot of James Shepherd and Derek Daley of the incredible Smiley & The Underclass before their show. In the background my Mum is making a cuppa and snacks‌

Between sets, socialising and mutual appreciation. MOSES, BANG BANG ROMEO and NOVA TWINS are in the building. Three threads of this tapestry. Check out all the CroCroLand stars if you can. #FertileEnvironment - (psst! Proper photographer live shots are in Spring 2019 Part 2.)

Here are some amazing, talented, magnetic and magical human beings, thank you for being you! Xx

Music and Love. Greetings from CroCroLand

Smiley & The Underclass are on fire!

Line check. “The quiet before the storm” preceding Weekend Recovery’s (packed, moshing, wild and wonderful set).

CroCroLand is a blueprint for a token free, gender balanced festival, artists, crew and alllies (audience) united collective for absolutely brilliant live sets from exciting entertainers. The enduring memory is of lots of grinning, meeting, dancing, hugging, conversations, jumping, singing loudly and laughter, everywhere. The 14+ event was well organised and managed, with an informed crew, safety procedures - plus all artists/crew paid. Uniqulture and punky love exploded in Croydon on 6th April 2019. So much more coming from this event and the involved artists. This page, hugs - Stars of Bang Bang Romeo and Jess of Tiger Mimic. Next page, laughter - the last band of the day to take to the stage, MOSES, did an after show interview with Louise Schofield TV.

Sunday 7th April Croydon, the morning after CroCroLand Courtesy of actual photographers, proper reportage from the festival, to follow in Spring 2019 Part 2. Much appreciation to the cast and crew of TheZineUK’s True News A lot has happened in DIY’s Newer Wave of Music, each year. For the musicians, DJs, industry, media and audiences in this issue alone, for starters. What happens next? Tune IN. I am here.
