Creating this issue started 9th Feb 2020. Finished the last chapter (above, which ended at the start of June 2019) on Saturday 14th December. Since then and leaving the EU, the poetic souls in this story inspire a better future for us all. If we’re going to be an independent nation, resist the Hate-Island illness. Let’s remain an imperfect, but at least welcoming, green and pleasant land that makes a song and dance about everything. Still. For our own mental well being. It’s almost impossible right now. But not quite. There are good news stories, too.

Mid Summer’s Day 2019 - Friday 21st June Yaaaay, going to see Smiley & The Underclass play by City Hall and the River Thames for Make Music Day! On the way, I meet up with musician and friend, Paul Draper for a catch up. There’s a continuing demand for Mansun everything, got a way with a tune, he has. We natter and have a few (?) sips then I hop on the tube to London Bridge. I don’t think that I’ve had too much to drink as I get there OK. I say “hi” in passing to Underclass guitarist James, then further along, to Lorna, one of our fab photographers. Suddenly I feel a bit “ooh better sit down”, then I dunno, but I wake up in bed the next morning (!). Erm… Such a great band, always, and I missed out like a boozy school girl!
at least here’s some great images Lorna Cort took of their brilliant show, on the next pages! →

A lot can happen within a few weeks of starting these documentary compilations‌ Saturday 21st March 2020‌
Bog-roll Zombie nation With much self-isolation Time to reflect or go nuts or create But not to be selfish or hoard or hate
Stop a minute. This documentary was first uploaded 14th March 2014. Now We Are Six. The world is a parallel dimension, yet again. These years have not been dull and the friends attending, creating, performing, reporting, photographing, filming, clothing, producing, supporting in any way are not in the eye of the mainstream taste makers. The closest I get to taste making is some of me Mum’s dragon sauce stirred into a stew, but the resistance of thrillers are in the minestream. The smaller independent music sites, blogs, vloggers and radio presenters. Find some faves growing visibly in these pages over the years, then trace back to who is supporting and follow them too. We’ve become close to many, before Physical Distancing.

There is a lot of serendipity in this situationist story. As if to prove how that it’s the independent music press you need to keep an eye on for your future tips, first, these days Blossoms tweeted this on 22nd March 2020: “6 years ago we released our first EP ‘Bloom’ who’s got a copy?” Highly influential as ever Little Indie Blogs http://littleindieblogs.blogspot.com/
https://joyzineuk.wordpress.com/
In Spring 2019 Part 1, Cold Water Swimmers were indeed “superb” at #Yanafest (but my pic wasn’t). Hooray for Trust A Fox Photography who captured the DIY outsiders on 29 February 2020 at The Globe, Glossop (this and next page), and is a key part of this doc among much more. Nice one, Foxy!

Back to Spring weekend 2020 documenting Summer 2019 The performance spaces are ghost lit until we return, but for now, in creative new ways, the show must go on. The thoughts and prayers for the whole world have never been more genuine. It really is the best and worst of times. True colours have been showing, increasingly, for some time now but TheZineUK story feels blessed to know and include some absolute freaking legends. Imagine telling a story of music movement right now? Things will never be the same. The future changed and is now a blank canvas which our favourites will help to colour. So then, where were we? Ah yes, had got to Smiley & The Underclass wowing the crowd at Tower Bridge with City Hall as their background. They’re capable of much more if given the chance. Take a closer look and listen at the multi media, multi cultural wealth of talent, allies and ideals which make this documentary of counter culture icons a fertile environment.

26th June 2019 Deux Furieuses Video shoot and an inspirational day with The Sisters Of Perpetual Rage. The ‘Year of Rage’ concept by Deux Furieuses was directed by Dan Donovan. With art direction by Miss Pokeno, it was inspired by her blog Feel the Rage which talks about what constitutes socially acceptable female rage. This was a day of love, friends creating and sharing. Thank you to deux furieuses for the invitation, and the rage.

Raise the scarlet standard high Beneath its folds we'll live and die Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here It well recalls the triumphs past It gives the hope of peace at last The banner bright, the symbol plain Of human right and human gain From ‘The Red Flag’. Fertile Environment - 4REAL
Since mid 2016, the under radar pop stars keep rising. The sky is not the limit. By 2019 various had made the charts, TV, national radio sessions, big stage, prestige supports and international gigs and festivals. SXSW included. The Newer Wave of rocking, rolling, interdependent artists and their audience, industry and multi media allies are bursting with potential for public euphoria, educational inspiration, social collusion and the economy. As I write this on 20th March 2020 our industrious dimension has been thrown under the misgovernment’s bus (that probably has NHS written on it’s side), financially - but we are creatives. Watch (and support) all these spaces/faces.
What can the not-household-name talents that TheZineUK documents achieve? Gonna answer that question with an image of the aptly named Stars taken when Bang Bang Romeo toured with Pink through Summer 2019. Image © James Corrin

Thursday 11th July 2019 The Fertile Environment of Interdependent music world are proof that being competitive raises the game - and being collaborative is for the real players. Something extra had fallen into place between CroCroLand a few months earlier. Kick Out The Jams were hosting their second event at The Dublin Castle. Tonight’s volume of The Camden Mix Up happened on the same night in London as the fab Dizzy Lizzy Presents (a Kick Out The Jams regular) in Nambucca. More friends, This Feeling had a show at Camden Monarch, also. There were others, but just as an example, all of these three were loaded with mates, on and off stage, who could have been at any of the other gigs. Quite a few Music “scenes” used to be fabricated. This isn’t a scene or an anti scene, this is just an organic fact. The newer wave of genre clashing, rock n roll party makers are an authentic (and charismatic) cyberpunk movement… and good hearted, with it.

It’s been some time since being really impressed by The Dirty Blonds at Amersham Arms x End Of The Trail, it happens all over again this evening. My own amateur live shots of the rest of the night are even blurrier than this, but Kick Out The Jams has proper photographers at their events, so there are (good!) images elsewhere. But these illustrate a story.
