Summer 2021 2/2 really BACK on STAGE

June 2021 BACK on STAGE!

21st July 2021, greetings from Fascist Plague Island: Earth is drowning, on fire, enslaved. Alien hearted elite are bigot savages taking the piss. Arse-tronaut villianaires spent suffering-humanity’s money on not being as impressive as the 20th century’s Concorde. What an age to be a music maker/supporter. Oh, and do NOT come at me with tiresome “guitar/rock has all been done before” bollocks. It’s all feeling more Sister Rosetta Tharpe than ever in this newer world. Seen/heard it all before? Behave! I’ve lived long - and prosper by staying involved with exciting talent radiating huge potential. I’ve never imagined the end of days prologue soundtracked by such absolute twinklers! A case in point, last issue’s cover star band, The Tuts - part of the interdependent circuit of rebellious fun and friendship-as-finance that is fuelling the now and next.

If you’re previously unaware of TheZineUK doc, then hallo. I am the diary cut n paste crapshot/snap shot Love Pirate and (usually) The Live Events Department. Occasionally I blog, but our Editor, Dizzy Spell is cool if that doesn’t happen so often between our contributors, right now, in Pandemica. We’re situationist, honest, imperfect and overwhelmed by 2020 and 2021 so the idea of starting mini films about our cast and crew, for the end of the year, works out just as fine as trying to write about too much going on. Dizzy’s got TheZineUK internet “match-fit” so it maintains interest/grows readership. Our situationism didn’t re-imagine a city, instead, by this, our seventh year of weaving this tapestry, the people on the pages are building an entertainment network for these unimagineable days. It’s more of an industrious ®evolution instigated by generation tremorists of multi tasking passion’s prowess. From the seeds sewn in grassroots venues a Fertile Environment keeps blooming despite the cruel Hostile Environment we live through. Of course this rock n roll tale of the almost nearly almost Almost Famous is virtually a movie! Yours, whimsically, Caffy St Luce

June 2021, we left the last chapter at the Band Holiday BREAK OUT all-dayer in the Water Rats Theatre, Kings Cross - with There’s A Riot Goin’ On (Artists and Events Management) plus their double, sold out headlines by previous cover stars, The Velvet Hands. Thanks for including TheZineUK as a co-promoter, Andy Winters! July 2021, time to start cutting and pasting some pics and bits from last month, sound-tracked by the A&R Podcast from two of the key interdependent music industry’s stalwarts, the above mentioned Andrew (T.A.R.G.O.) & Kick Out The Jams head honcho, Roger Kent. Friends of many zeenagers. Their freshly revealed (end of July 2021) broadcast is on MixCloud and includes threads from our tapestry and, as per every issue, we find new ones; listen to their mixcloud for music and chat including Amersham Arms, BLAB, Cat SFX, Dry Ceaning, End Of The Trail, Gang Of Four, GET ON! TV, The Headshrinkers, iDestroy, Idles, Kontrol Freaks, Knight PR, Polarised Eyes, Talk Show, The Trusted, Unconvention plus more behind the scenes news.

June 2021

June 2021 Brexit x The Go-Home_Office x Hostile Environment = wishing the very best to all our friends as these pages, over the years, have united a spectrum of Earthlings via their instinctive celebration and communication: Music. The alien hearts win but are still never happy. They need to get out more. Out of our lives/business would be good. This is not being impractical, but forward looking.

People don’t talk about CND

To this day, though, policing doesn’t seem to have evolved into an acknowledged Protect And Serve force for good in the public’s eyes, either. Communists? The Tory Party inadvertently swelled their number this month, by referring to the England Football team taking the knee, against racism, before football matches as “Marxism”. People read Karl Marx to find out more.

6th June 2021 - Polarized Eyes headline Amersham Arms All Ages - one helluva Sunday Service!

Opposite New Cross Station, just around the corner from Goldsmiths Uni is a TARDIS of an entertaining, creative space called Amersham Arms. 388 New Cross Road is home to a spectrum of good times and good people - End Of The Trail are one of the interdependent music network buzzes. Today the “backstage bar” is crackling with a musical matinee mutiny. I’m in. As it’s an Access All Ages afternoon, I wear (what’s left of) my Manics ‘Motown Junk’ t-shirt, for I have been all ages! It’s the Sabbath and I’m Black, but I’m not a vicar otherwise I would have to announce to my congregation; “Family, Let’s Fackin’ ROCK!’

Why, yes. These are amateur snap shots. Anyway, a few more of Sunday 6th June 2021 at Amersham Arms for End Of The Trail’s event graced by Polarised Eyes and special guests who were actually special. It was noisy, joysy (there IS such a word. I’ve just typed it) and made the future feel brighter as music folks, on and off stage, embraced being outta lockdown and at an actual gig. I hope that we never take the grassroots circuit and it’s moving, shaking, heritage making community for granted .The “government” do, but I hope we, the people, don’t.

Something special on the album front. Cold Water Swimmers were playing at Jimmy’s for Manchester’s YANAfest Spring 2019. Went downstairs and stayed for their ace whole set. Fast forward to 2021: Jimmy’s closed, has moved and will reopen. Holiday at the Secret Lake is a key release for investigators.

Aah, there’s a pang of regret at not travelling to another town or city since the end of 2019 …but relief at being well enough in a pandemic to miss out of town adventures. TheZineUK will stage live music in 2021 for sure. It doesn’t matter where or how! Just NEED to!

8th June 2021 Britain gets some leadership, at last - from Sport

Dear England, It has been an extremely difficult year. Everyone in this country has been directly affected by isolation and loss. But we have also seen countless examples of heroism and sacrifice. It’s given us all a new understanding of the fragility of life and what really matters. When you think of the grand scheme of things, perhaps football doesn’t seem so important. And what I want to speak about today is much bigger than football… If 2021 is a game of two halves, then Gareth closes the first one with a new hope.

8th June is also a beautiful day back at the 606 Club in Chelsea, behind the scenes for another day’s filming by Roobi TV’s weekly live Indie show, GET ON! Introduced in previous issues. Select artists are scouted by End Of The Trail, recorded in session and hosted by Louise Schofield. It’s all superbly done with love, no wonder subscriptions keep growing. https://www.roobi.tv/

Hold tight - the exquisite Baba Ali are gonna be hitting GET ON! TV. Witnessed a fabulous performance, 8th June 2021

SHADE have been #FutureTips in TheZineUK on the strength of some powerful composition and performance skills in song, despite most of their story unfolding in lockdown - including the first two single releases in 2020. It’s something else to see them get off a coach down from Manchester, set up, plug in and play live. There’s definitely something extra happening here. Alternative rock fans, find their session and interview on Episode 11 of GET ON! TV (aired July 2021)

20th June 2021 #CorbynPhotoBomb More kind-people-power happened when the mainstream propaganda machine failed. A career MP pretended that the (long gone, folks, we’ve moved on) ex leader of the Labour Party photo bombed her. Aside from that being an obvious lie, twitter did it’s heart warming thing and it turns out that every day folk, with a sense of humour, still like the geez. It is always heart warming to see something good natured and fun, viral on social media.

21st June -

Make Music Day

There was something extra poignant about the annual global celebration this solstice. Wonderful (music) world. Beautiful (music) people! Thank you to Make Music Day for the use of these images.

“Make Music Day - “ A non-directive party that brings together all people for whom music matters.” – Maurice Fleuret, French Ministry of Culture. Created locally, shared globally. Annually connecting the world’s largest, free to attend/perform, DIY festival on 21st June. For 2021, in 125 countries!

Music Is Humanity

Make a song and dance about everything in this new world. Music is what it is to be human. To be part of Make Music Day 2022, visit https://makemusicday.co.uk/

21st June 2021 - Our real government, Music Venue Trust, physically raised themselves (by climbing The O2 in Greenwich) to raise funds so they can keep fighting for our music world ! On the roof of a favourite world venue, mega suppoerter, Frank Turner got a surprise award, also!

Mid-Summer 24th June, 2021 =Kick Out The Jams Xmas Party!

Healthy Junkies, A Void, Tiger Mimic, 26th Avenue - and friends

If you get to experience a live music event, especially on the grassroots circuit, from the second half of 2021, post-lockdown feels like rock n roll is being born all over again. Before arenas, stadiums and mega festivals, gigs started in spaces this size last century. Take care of yourselves and each other so it can keep happening
