The 2019 don’t “brexit”… Let’s

SEX it

Within days of 2019 starting, some people were in meltdown over vegan sausage rolls (while others starve). Despite Farcey McFarce Face (or whatever tory-brexit’s ferry-less ferry company, with a fast food manifesto, was called), we haven’t all lost our collective mind. Alien Monsters s from Planet Fascist Thug wage violence on our Human Family. We need escapism for Mental Wealth. In the (he)art powered parallel dimension, positivity still blossoms. At time of writing (mid March) CroCroLand Festival will sell out (pic, Nova Twins, a vein through TheZineUK’s tale). The Specials topped the album charts with ‘Encore’. Time travel to Spring 2017’s viral image of creator, Saffiyah Khan, by Joe Gidden weaved new, always relevant futures. Pockets of people power and planet loving rebellion are still breaking out; the million children #Youth4Climate march, proved that. Equity for equality swells a Fertile Environment. Onwards, Children Of All Ages. Let’s SPRING. Front page image: Musical activists, Bugeye photographed by Julia Woolams of 31% Wool.

Don’t Brexit. SEX it. Having fun together fucks up the Blue Meanies’ Divide And Conquer plan.

BrexSHIT

Life is hard. It’s been harder, and could get harder again. No super hero will fly down and save us. We have to save ourselves. They’re taking music off the (affordable) education syllabus. They’re shutting down the venues that new stars learn to twinkle in. You won’t see new rock’n’roll enjoying itself on day time mainstream telly. The empire is greywashing life with aural blandification. They can stick that hate and hostility soundtrack up their austerity-hole. Don’t lose hope, we KNOW what good can do, otherwise why would so many artists (lots of them held together by second hand shops, gaffer tape, Poundland, Greggs and Primark) still be rising agains the odds.

The last few years, especially, could not have been imagined when we started, but the force of Nature is strong. Instinct: Independent Venue Week AND Music Venue Trust also started in 2014. Sign Of The Times.

This documentary is five years of pictorial PROOF since first uploading.

We LOVE you. You’re as sexy as you want to be, or not. Let’s do this, Friends.

January 2018 started with The Nyx. After an escape in Snail (the van), free range music makers, Weird Ears, emerge. January 2019 : Monefa Walker’s depth interview “Weird (Ears) is the new Wonderful” is at TheZineUK blog.

Bugeye have, on more than one occasion, been acclaimed as Britain’s best Disco Punks. The feisty fab femme four are weaved into TheZineUK documentary’s tapestry as a sequin-sparkly thread. The Spring 2019 single, ‘Hey You’, is a lively shimmy and shout along of joy, for a whole new world which is (truly) happening under radar. Lead singer, Angela Martin, is a ring leader of DIY rock’s musical activism, being co-curator of the (game changing) punk heritage celebration; CroCroLand - alongside Julia Woolams of 31% Wool (who photographed the above Bugeye image and designs the generic CroCroLand Festival graphics/band artwork). Uniqulture’s peace and funshine will break out in Croydon on Saturday 6th April. The 14+ event is almost sold out, weeks ahead. (Continued/)

The Music People Party continues… “Planning #CroCroLand has all been about collaboration, from curating our amazing line-up to finding the space to put the festival on, the crew to make it a reality and the people to put their financial support behind it. Gender balanced, art inspired and socially inclusive, CroCroLand is a convention of positive invention Investigate the line up, some amazing achievers fused with exciting thrills for sussed New-Music maniacs. 30+ shows on 3 stages in 1 location (near fast London/Brighton public transport that runs until late|). Friday 11th January 2019 - A return to one of TheZineUK’s regular haunts (since this picture story’s first chapter); The Social. Birmingham psyche punk trio , The Cosmics, are making the packed out venue scream their appreciation. This band emit extraordinary and intense rock music dynamics. Is Roger here? (Roger Mairlot is the capital’s multi-hot-gig superman. Yes, down the front.

A short walk up the road from The Cosmics at The Social, more Midlands “Madlands” talent is wowing new-music industry in the capital’s central spaces. A one band movement on the rise, Ivory Wave headline Modern Age Music’s “2019 Ones To Watch”, the whole line up is packed with serious contenders. People have travelled from nation-wide to be at 229 Great Portland Street, tonight to rock and rave. We are still grinning after the cheers have finally faded.

January 30th, M O S E S take a break while making a new video with Hum Hum Production

From the video shoot in Camden (via an evening with a beloved friend), a chance encounter with Mikey Jonns of This Feeling sparks another trip to The Social where vixen-cool Nadia Sheikh and another of Modern Age’s ‘2019 Ones To Watch’, The Novus, are supporting Young Garbo at Alan McGee’s rocking night. Lovely faces x too many cocktails =hopefully behaved! Thanks, Mikey

Independent Venue Week - Nationwide 28th January-3rd February. 2019 already feels like artists from this story were represented, more than ever on the profiled music industry calendar. See also SXSW and support slots on arena/stadium size stages, to come. On 31st January, Kick Out The Jams staged a brilliant riot at The Good Mixer starring The Velvet Hands, The Rezner and Alibi.

Clive Drew, Music & Communications Consultant:

"Initiatives like Independent Venue Week are crucial in championing and putting a spotlight on grassroots music venues throughout the UK. A lot of the general public don't seem to make the connection between festival headliners and these vital, often under funded arts spaces. Quite simply, Glastonbury would not have its Pyramid Stage headliners without springboard venues like Southampton Joiners, Cardiff's Clwb Ifor Bach and the Brixton Windmill. These places should be given protected status and now in its fifth year, IVW has become an annual celebration of the contribution these make to UK music industry. Kudos to Sybil and her team!" Clive's #IVW19 gigs were (London): Young Garbo and Nadia Sheikh at the Heavenly Social and Arborist at Aces & Eights.

Cornwall - absolutely killing it on newer wave of the rock n roll scenes

9th February Music movement is happening all over the world’s most eccentric isles. That’s why the winds of the world blow kisses from the skies and friends from natiowide to the Mix Up with Kick Out The Jams, Rotor Videos and friends. SKIES have travelled from Kent, Beach Riot & Feral Youth from Brighton. Special guest openers, The Novus are from Birmingham and have such a buzz that their manager is here, despite an injured foot, wearing one shoe and one wellington boot!)

← Another recent new favourite, first glimpsed live on stage at the Mix Up, is the Belfast band, Wynona Bleach There is definitely something arresting about their layered, raw sound that needs to be investigated further. Nice one, again, Sir Roger Kent of Kent. The band kindly assembled outsideThe Good Mixer, for an impromptu, after-gig snap shot…

“Nice shot, but there’s a better way to arrange ourselves…”

Friday 15th February: #Youth4Climate inspirations creating hope and humour for all our futures. (Westminster Station, on the River Thames)

Monday 18th February. We are out as a rock n roll gang, with a lot of friends at key newer wave venue, The Monarch, in Camden. Before The Velvet Hands and The Garage Flowers (pictured, Joe Capaldi) punk it up live, there’s a panel debate that affects most of our lives, Mental Health.

Modernistic underground punk stars, The Velvet Hands are with Jack Saunders of BBC Radio 1, for Alice Gee of Head Above The Clouds - The first in a series of public mental health panels.

Tuesday 5th March 2019. Simon Williams of Benumu and TheZineUK (Caffy, Live Events Dept) are interviewed by Paul Maps of Joyzine Radio Show (It’s now on Mixcloud - Share The Joy).

March 2019 On The Seventh Day, We Created. Again. Magic eyed photographer Sandy K. Moz captured moments behind the scenes as our gang of contributors spent the day documenting (among much else) the musical activists looking to save our music venues.

Music Venue Trust

A week after Sandy K. Moz photographed this day at Hawley Arms, The Cellar in Oxford closed it’s doors for good, and The afore-mentioned Social in Soho had two weeks to raise the money to be saved from closure. Our music culture is being CULLED. Keep up the #Fightback

That same 7th March kept creating new futures. Along the road after the Hawley Arms filming, Camden Assembly is packed and ready for a special

Benumu event‌

Benumu- another new music industry recommendation - has an active community of audiences and artists. Headliners, M O S E S are kicking off their 2019 tour. Special guests, Couples (papped before openers,Lion Machine 23, hit the stage) are on the road this Spring.

Couples #LivingTheStream broadcast from Benumu’s event for the Mind Charity 7th March

Another of TheZineUK #FuturePicks, M O S E S have come a long way since re-booting as a band, on their own terms, during Summer 2018. At the end of August they released an Autumn single ‘Cause You Got Me’, followed by a Winter single ‘River Thames’ and the video they were filming earlier in this picture story was for the uplifting Spring along, sing-along; ‘I Think You Worry Too Much’. Before they went on stage at Benumu, singer, Victor, snaps bass player, James, in their new band t shirts. The gig, itself, is a joyful (growing family choir) occasion. At the end, host Simon Williams of Benumu, invited M O S E S back on stage to take a well deserved bow. Find out why, at UK tour dates and festivals, throughout 2019 and/or join in, on line.

Five Years of TheZineUK’s situationist Performance Art creates a Newer Wave community of magic proportions. Step through the doors of an small venue to the other (peace, weirdness n fun ) side, to our collective Wilde Life. Thanks and LOVE for all the amazing stars in this story.

Newer Wave international, not just loads of faves hitting Europe, especially this and last year, but, as previously mentioned both Independent Venue Week (UK) and SXSW (USA) were flavoured with emerging stars of this tale, playing and staging events. We have no idea what the next five years will bring. Zeenagers live for the NOW, because in the Dystopian World’s dimension, who knows what the next five days will bring. Our soundtrack’s songs and escapism games need to be STRONG. It means experiencing performances that belong on much bigger stranges, but at close range, affordably. Get IN!

Mourning Birds are back on cannon-ball firing form since they ended 2018 with the single, ‘Insatiable’. They began 2019 as one of Spotlight Festival’s rock tips (Benumu Stage) ‘Insane’ kicks in like the Hulk threw a gang of rock’n’roll degenerates through a window, into a bar followed by.h their instruments and they started a brawl then a mosh pit with this punked up, shout and jump along riot produced by The Wiz that is Gavin Monaghan. TheZineUK is five years old this year and can confirm that this is how the Mourning Birds story basically works. Our story would not be the same without these Madway legends. Some people pose. This band impose. On your heart (and funny bone). Fucking hell. You’d be mad to not get involved. “I don’t wanna be insane…”

Magicians Against Homelessness? A mini fest of music magic for Musicians Against Homelessness and the inspiration that The Wizard of Wolverhampton,

Gavin Monaghan graces this story with via so many soundtracks for our time. The Magic Garden Studios are hallowed ground with pilgrimages being made from all over the country (by artists that can cast a musical spell).

A very special mini fest of them are in Brum on 3rd May. Midlands/Madlands BAND Holiday Weekend ahoy

Saturday 16th March 2019 by photographer Jon Mo: Paula & Angela of Bugeye, Jessie of Scarlet and Kat Five of Feral Five. We were all out at Kick Out The Jams Mix Up (Scarlet with Sick Love, Jeph and L.A.N.E.S.). Packed out (as ever) with punky music jumping and a swathe of industry/media faces for Musicians Against Homelessness. The Good Mixer and Camden in general are buzzing like it’s the 1990s. A positive, peace waging, (pop chart quality) music powered new hope shines a light. Find the above four faces sharing the joy again, at CroCroLand!

* SOMA FESTIVAL * Rock n Roll, Band Holiday Weekend, Road Trip!

19th March; ‘90 Minutes’ by Simon Baker; M O S E S arrive at Genesis Cinema for the premiere. Rio Ferdinand digs their Britpop spiced rock anthems which soundtrack the movie. Well done!
