HISTORY The wine making industry in Burgundy dates back to the Middle Ages, when the established vineyards in the area took advantage of the zesty minerality the limestone in the soils provides to the wines. The land was given back to the people following the French Revolution and viticulture has continued to dominate the region ever since.
CHABLIS
CÔTE DE NUITS
The growing region of Chablis has been well established since at least the 12th century AD as a region where some of the finest chardonnay grapes in the world are cultivated. These exclusively white grapes benefit from the chalky texture of the soil, which absorbs the heat of the sun.
The Côte de Nuits region has been producing quality pinot noir grapes for many centuries, and the area today plays host to some of the world’s most expensive vineyard estates. Around 20% of the harvest here is white chardonnay or rosé, but the key focus is on pinot noir.
