CHATURANGA Chaturanga is recorded as having been played in India from the 6th century AD, during the time of the Gupta Empire. This early precursor to chess involved pieces that represented the four military divisions of chariotry, elephantry, cavalry and infantry, which evolved into the rook, bishop, knight and pawn respectively. CHINESE CHESS Chinese chess is thought to have developed from Chaturanga, combined with elements of the ancient game of Go. Known as xiangqi, Chinese chess is played not on the squares of the board, but rather on the intersections. GLOBAL ADOPTION Records show the game of chess to have spread across Europe and Russia by the year 1000. By the 10th century, it had been carried to Iberia, Sicily and North Africa and was played extensively throughout Persia, the Arabian empire and the Byzantine Empire.
MANY PEOPLE HAVE USED TECHNIQUES LEARNED THROUGH PLAYING CHESS AS A GUIDE FOR LIFE AND FOR MAKING INVESTMENT DECISIONS.
