We arrived at the theme for this issue of AVENUE (III) in a round about way. Initially, we explored ideas about craftsmanship, things well made, integrity of practice, high standards– something or someone a cut above the rest. Then, suddenly, we realized we were In Pursuit Of Excellence.

Simply put, excellence is exceptionally good talent or quality that surpasses ordinary standards, something increasingly difficult to encounter in a world of mass production and bottom line values. Excellence entails courage, bucks the status quo.

We’d like to think AVENUE is dedicated to a standard of excellence and that that’s reflected in these pages through content, photography, quality of writing, design, courage and integrity to create something beyond the status quo.
