La moda puede ser una herramienta de construcción de comunidades enteras y un determinante factor de influencia en el pensamiento, en la vida cultural y política de un pueblo. En This, Viaje y Estilo nos estamos arrojando al vacío, nos dedicamos dos meses a un análisis crítico para descifrar la moda en vestuario, salud, autos, muebles, arquitectura, arte y hasta en gastronomía. Queremos mostrarte un retrato en alta definición del último grito de la moda. Abre nuestras páginas y aprende cómo entender la moda y hacer con ella lo que te acomoda. Además te presentamos recomendaciones en literatura, un recorrido por el centro histórico de Querétaro y muchas sorpresas más que te ayudarán a darle un acento nuevo a tu estilo de vida. Tratar de entender la moda y predecirla es un deporte extremo que muchos gozan de practicar hoy en día. Así queremos explorar la moda, con una mirada reflexiva que atrape la esencia y nos aclare el entendimiento. Mirar la moda es casi imposible, pues la moda no está en un solo lado, es un fenómeno conceptual que sucede globalmente, se crea y se regenera constantemente. “Mirar esto y ver lo otro”, decía Octavio Paz del arte. Se recomienda un ejercicio de interpretación estética, hay que mirar el fenómeno de la moda como mirar una obra de

Tendencia, en cambio es un concepto más amplio, se trata de ubicar matemáticamente en base a las mediciones como la moda, la media y la mediana de un universo determinado y encontrar la probabilidad o disposición de los individuos de ir en cierta dirección. Las tendencias por tanto no se refieren a objetos específicos sino más a conceptos. Hablaremos de tendencias globales como el desarrollo sostenible.

Sabías que las grandes casas de moda internacionales tienen un departamento de cazadores de moda? Son personas que se dedican a salir a la calle de grandes centros urbanos y observar qué es lo que está usando la gente común y cuáles son las tendencias, para después crear productos que respondan a las necesidades de las masas. Por ejemplo si caminamos en el centro de la Ciudad de México, podremos observar que en los últimos meses las mariconeras de piel están volviendo a usarse entre las tribus urbanas y las personas con costumbres nómadas, ya que permiten transportar objetos fácilmente con una postura corporal correcta, además de que se pueden sujetar mejor al cuerpo. También en las ciudades se pusieron de moda las pashminas, no solo para mujeres sino para hombres, en diferentes tejidos y texturas. Esto responde al hecho de que se ha vuelto necesario proteger la nariz del polvo y el smog, la pashmina es una prenda práctica y muy expresionista que permite definir tu estilo. En el centro de Querétaro vimos como los accesorios tribales de cuero, plata y piedras semipreciosas con diseños de acentos prehispánicos nunca pasarán de moda pues reflejan el orgullo de un pueblo y el amor a las tradiciones. Las marcas comerciales imitan estos objetos están hechos de materiales más perdurables y en otras ocasiones no resultan ser tan originales. En San Miguel de Allende, el ejemplo máximo de moda nómada lo encontrarás en las mesas de ropa del Tianguis de los martes y en los atuendos de la gente que transita por los pasillos, una experiencia de por sí fascinante.

Did you know that large international fashion houses have a department of fashion hunters? They are people who are dedicated to going outside of major urban centers and observe what ordinary people are using and what the trends are, then create products that meet the needs of the masses. For example, if we walk in downtown Mexico City, we can see that in recent months the man- purse is coming back into use among the urban tribes and people who have more or less nomadic customs, and it allows them to carry things easily and with correct posture which is better for the body. Also in the cities, pashminas have become fashionable in different fabrics and textures not only for women but for men. This reflects the fact that it has become necessary to protect the nose from dust and smog, and pashmina is a practical and very expressionistic garment that defines your style. In the center of Querétaro we saw tribal-like accessories in leather and silver accented with semi-precious stones in pre-hispanic designs that never go out of fashion because they reflect the pride of a people and love of a tradition. Trademarks mimic these objects and are sometimes made of more durable materials and at other times are not as original. In San Miguel de Allende, the ultimate example of nomadic fashion apparel can be found at the Tuesday Tianguis a fascinating experience in itself with tables full of clothes and people in costumes walking through the aisles.

En el pasado los hábitos culturales eran muy diferenciados entre culturas. Mientras en Escocia los hombres optaron por la falda y calcetones a la rodilla, los japoneses adoptaron un kimono completo. Hoy la globalización nos permite combinar el medio kimono con blue jeans o a una falda escocesa con un top, sin diferenciación de uso por género. Más aún, la globalización nos ha permitido conocer y tener acceso a prendas que son mezclas de seda, algodón, lino y fibras sintéticas, casi en cualquier parte del mundo. or supuesto hablamos de Arquitectura Verde, Eco-Arquitectura, Arquitectura Ambiental, Bio-Construcción, todas son una misma manera para concebir el diseño y apuesta arquitectónica de este siglo 21. Hoy la forma de construir es solo sostenible, es decir, buscando optimizar los recursos naturales y los sistemas de edificación de modo que minimicen el impacto ambiental de lo edificado sobre el medio ambiente y sus habitantes. ¿Pero qué sucede en las ciudades patrimonio cultural, donde las antiguas construcciones no fueron hechas ni diseñadas con estas modernas y comprometidas arquitecturas? Existen iniciativas muy interesantes. Una opción, muy de moda en San Miguel de Allende y Querétaro, son los llamativos Techos Verdes implementados en las techumbres de las señoriales casonas y los edificios históricos. Este singular proyecto no es meramente ornamental, ¡pero vaya que embellece las azoteas citadinas! he acclaimed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma first visited Mexico to construct the monumental installation: Habitable Forest within the framework of the second competition of Open Design Mexico. Kengo is a contemporary Japanese architect born in 1954. He has received outstanding awards worldwide, including, the Medal of Arts and Letters in France in 2009, and a year before, received the award for Architecture and Performance of Energy. He has designed major works, including, the Opera House in Granada, the Art Museum of Kyushu, the Conservatory of Aix en

Provence, the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo, and the headquarters for Louis Vuitton Moet Henessy Group in Japan. In his work we can see an appreciation of light, materiality, transparency and a commitment to recover Japanese building traditions, reinterpreted in a contemporary way. Kengo Kuma often takes inspiration from music, particularly jazz and is interested in the relationship between materials and the human body, and the mix of materials from all over the world such as bamboo from Japan and hardwoods of Costa Rica. He proposes to create an architecture that adapts to the constant changes in nature since life

his tuvo la oportunidad de conversar con Rodrigo de la Sierra y quisimos saber cuál es su postura como artista. Y esto nos comparte: “Para mí el arte por definición debe ser subversivo, y si bien Timoteo está registrado como un ciudadano del mundo, como un ente que habla sobre circunstancias sociales a nivel mundial, por supuesto busca alejarnos de toda incivilización a través de la herramienta de la ironía y del sarcasmo. No soy ajeno a la situación que lastimosamente prevalece en el país. Timo y yo nunca nos quedamos callados, y seguramente habrá un momento en que como artista y creación estaremos hablando”. Timo es un personaje polifacético, y su rostro —aunque formado sólo con dos hoyuelos como ojos— es capaz de reflejar la parodia de todos los absurdos de la humanidad. Su redondo cuerpo es capaz de cargar con todo el peso del

And he shared with us: “For me, art by definition must be subversive, and while Timothy is registered as a citizen of the world, as an entity that talks about global, social circumstances, of course, looking away from all un-civilization through the tool of irony and sarcasm. I’m no stranger to the situation that unfortunately prevails in the country. Timo and I never remain silent, and there will be a time when artists and creation will be talking.” Timo is a multifaceted character, and his face, though only two dimples formed as eyes, is able to reflect the absurd parody of all of humanity. His round body is able to bear the whole weight of the world, and makes us feel sorry for his metal shoulders and wrinkled jacket. While this character seems comical and tender at first, “one soon realizes that behind this

mundo, hasta hacernos sentir pena por sus hombros de metal y por las arrugas de su saco. Si bien al principio este protagonista nos parece cómico y tierno, “uno pronto se da cuenta de que detrás de esta careta inicial, se interpretan asuntos de suma importancia y seriedad”. Francamente Timo es sugerente, seductor y muy interesante. Técnicamente Timoteo es increíble y, la más de las veces, asombroso. Su creador se llama Rodrigo de la Sierra —arquitecto, artista y escultor mexicano, cuya original trayectoria escultórica lo ha llevado a exponer sus obras en importantes ciudades del mundo, en galerías del país y en ferias internacionales de arte contemporáneo. A partir del 17 de enero, en la Exposición Conmemorativa del 6º Aniversario de la Galería Intersección Arte Contemporáneo, antes llamada Galería Santiago Corral, ubicada en la Fábrica La Aurora, Rodrigo de la Sierra presenta una serie de piezas en bronce creadas durante el último año, con temas triviales y cotidianos que involucran tanto a chinos, norteamericanos, brasileños y mexicanos. Podremos disfrutar de obras como Punto de equilibrio, una escalera con tres Timos intentando hallar el equilibrio haciendo malabares; Lecciones de amor, donde podemos ver a Timo asomado al precipicio y amarrado de Tea, su pareja, quien lo observa con una cierta incredulidad; o El compositor, donde Timo compone música con una guitarra que le dicta los notas. La exposición también será el marco para la presentación del libro Timoteo, con aportaciones de tres especialistas: Rafael Pérez y Pérez, Margaret Failoni y Achille Bonito Oliva, uno de los principales críticos de arte de Italia.

As of January 17, in the Commemorative Exhibition of the 6th Anniversary of Intersection Contemporary Art Gallery, formerly Gallery Santiago Corral, located in the Fabrica La Aurora, Rodrigo de la Sierra has a number of pieces in bronze created during the past year with trivial and everyday issues involving both Chinese, Americans, Brazilians and Mexicans. Intersection Gallery of Contemporary Art is, from 2015, the new name of this substantial gallery located at Fabrica La Aurora, Center for Art and Design in San Miguel de Allende. “The name change is an idea that has matured for a long time. Santiago Corral will always be part of the gallery, not with his name now, but, with his work and presence. a galería MuVarte abrió sus puertas en San Miguel de Allende en junio del 2014 en un espacio insólito considerando los estándares de esta ciudad colonial. Apenas a 5 minutos del centro, ubicados en la parte alta del tradicional Valle del Maíz, estos 400 metros cuadrados de exposición dedicados al arte contemporáneo, instalados en un entorno industrial, recuerdan los movimientos de artistas de Berlín o Nueva York hacia los espacios generosos de bodegas y lofts de las periferias. Es aquí donde el artista Jorge Yázpik inauguró el 9 de diciembre su nueva exposición. ¿Y qué mejor lugar para instalar sus trabajos monumentales? En aquel inmenso espacio, lucen con sobriedad y elegancia una veintena de piezas escultóricas, ofreciendo al público un recorrido amplio, un diálogo entre arte y arquitectura. THE MEXICAN SCULPTOR EXHIBITS AT GALLERY MUVARTE The MuVarte gallery opened its doors in San Miguel de Allende in June of 2014 in an unusual space considering the standards of this colonial city. Just 5 minutes from the Historic Center, located on top of the traditional Valle del Maiz. The 400 square meters of exhibition space are dedicated to contemporary art, installed in an industrial environment, reminiscent of the generous spaces; warehouses and lofts in Berlin or New York that artists moved into on the peripheries of those cities. Recuerda al visitante los tiempos ancestrales de su unión con la tierra, con el elemento mineral, cuando en las cavernas los hombres encontraban protección y desarrollaban herramientas esenciales.

liths of colossal size carved with great skill are displayed. In these stony bodies appendices and stalagmites appear in abstract shapes and twists, sometimes rough, and sometimes surprisingly soft to the touch. The allusion to prehistoric caves is immediately apparent because in those sculptures one can definitely find shelter. The visitor to the exhibition will recall ancient times when man sought protection in caves, was one with the land, with the mineral element, and essential tools were developed. Other pieces are made of obsidian, the black igneous rock that can be highly polished to a luster and silkiness close to the glass. Of course, the visitor is invited to touch the work, because through the act of rubbing and tapping we feel the strength and density of the elements. This primitive act also reminds us of the life in the caves where there was no light, and groping humans discovered the extent of their universe. There are also some bas-relief pieces in the exhibition; polished stone panels on which appear strange maps. We recall the plan of an ancient city forever engraved upon this enduring material. Others still, are wooden sculptures of Yazpik. These are airy works, thin silhouettes made of rough tropical wood that soar into the sky reaching 9 feet in height. They also recall a primitive history, and appear as sentinels in an archaic army. Such is the work of Jorge Yazpik accompanying us through nature, inviting us to appreciate its elemental rudeness, and its beauty without burden.

Algunas otras piezas están hechas de obsidiana, piedra ígnea negra que al ser pulida cobra un lustro y una sedosidad cercanos a los del vidrio. Por supuesto el visitante está invitado a tocar las obras. Porque en el acto de sobar, de palpar, sentimos la solidez y la densidad de los elementos. Este acto primitivo también nos remite a la vida de las cavernas, cuando sin luz, los humanos descubrían a tientas la amplitud de su universo.

La exposición también muestra unas piezas en bajo-relieve. Son paneles de piedra pulida sobre los cuales aparecen mapas extraños. Recordamos el plano de una ciudad antigua, grabado por siempre en este material tan longevo. Otras todavía son las esculturas en madera de Yázpik. Son más aéreas, se elevan hacia el cielo, siluetas delgadas alcanzando los 3 metros de altura, hechas de madera tropical durísima. Remiten también a una historia primitiva. Parecen las centinelas de un ejército arcaico. Tales como su autor Jorge Yázpik, nos acompañan hacia la naturaleza, nos invitan a apreciar su rudeza elemental, su belleza sin fardos. El público podrá apreciar esta muestra hasta marzo 2015.

e piensa que este deporte se originó en la antigua Persia, alrededor del siglo VI a.C. Su nombre deriva de “pulu”, que significa “pelota” en tibetano. Muchos historiadores creen que su origen se remonta a las tribus iraníes que existían antes del reinado de Darío I El Grande y la fundación del Segundo Imperio Iraní. Ciertamente, la literatura y el arte persas son los principales registros de la práctica del Polo en la antigüedad.

El Polo se juega con equipos contrarios, de cuatro jugadores cada uno, quienes montados a caballo intentan llevar una pequeña pelota de madera o plástico hacia la portería del rival. Cada equipo tiene un hándicap de 0 a 10 goles. El hándicap del jugador depende de su habilidad para andar a caballo y rapidez para el juego. El partido se juega en canchas de 300 yardas de largo por 160 de ancho, con postes de mimbre en sus extremos para formar los arcos. Un buen caballo de Polo debe ser capaz de frenar y girar en un santiamén. Muchos jugadores reconocen que gran parte de su éxito se debe a la habilidad de los caballos.

Polo is played with opposing teams of four players each on horseback carrying a small wooden or plastic ball that they try to get it into the opponent’s goal. Each team has a handicap of 0-10 goals. The handicap depends upon each players ability to ride a horse and their speed in the game. The game is played on greens 300 yards long by 160 wide with rattan poles at their ends to form the arches of the goals. A good Polo horse should be able to brake and turn in a heartbeat. Many players recognize that much of their success is due to the ability of their horse.

It is thought that this sport originated in ancient Persia, around the sixth century BC. Its name is derived from pulu meaning ball in Tibetan. Many historians believe that it dates back to Iranian tribes that existed before the reign of Darius The Great and the founding of the Second Iranian Empire. Certainly Persian literature and art are the main records of playing Polo in antiquity.

n el mes de febrero el hermoso Parque Juárez de San Miguel de Allende, también conocido como el parque francés, se viste con una extraordinaria gama de colores, aromas, formas y tamaños gracias a la Feria de la Candelaria. Hace casi 60 años que se lleva a cabo esta tradicional feria, donde se combinan la venta y exposición de plantas y flores de ornato, plantas medicinales y aromáticas, flores exóticas, bonsáis y los tan de moda ahora árboles macro-bonsais. Cada año más de 110 productores locales y de diversos estados de la República Mexicana alegran el jardín y acercan a los amantes de la floricultura una increíble diversidad en flores y plantas, además de una gran variedad de bellas macetas de barro clásicas de la región y productos de jardinería. Gracias a la Feria de la Candelaria San Miguel de Allende ha ganado fama internacional por sus hermosos balcones, ventanales y jardines embellecidos con coloridas flores y originales macetones. La feria se inaugura tradicionalmente el día 2 de febrero con tamales y atoles ofrecidos a los visitantes, haciendo honor a la Virgen de la Candelaria. Diez días donde se combinan también talleres ecológicos y eventos culturales como danza, cine, música de bandas, callejoneadas y mojigangas que hacen muy agradable y divertido visitar el jardín y su Feria de las Flores.

candelaria fair 2015 In February, the beautiful Juarez Park, San Miguel de Allende, also known as the French Park, wears an extraordinary range of colors, aromas, shapes and sizes thanks to the Candelaria Fair. This traditional fair has been held for nearly 60 years combining the exhibition of ornamental plants and flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants, exotic flowers, bonsai and oh-so-fashionable macro-bonsai trees. Every year more than 110 producers, both local and from the various states of the Mexican Republic come to delight lovers of floriculture with an incredible array of flowers and plants, a great variety of classical and beautiful clay pots from the region, and other garden products. Thanks to the Cadelaria Fair, San Miguel de Allende has gained international fame for its beautiful balconies, windows and gardens embellished with colorful flowers and original planters. Traditionally, the fair opens 2 February with tamales and atole offered to visitors, honoring the Virgin Of The Candelaria. For ten days there are ecological workshops, cultural events such as dance, films, music bands, [callejoneadas] and monjigangas that make it delightful and fun to visit the park and the Flower Fair.

Como todas las aventuras que valgan la pena, el reto aquí es empezar, y lo decimos porque tendrás que “madrugar” un sábado en la mañana para llegar temprano al Mercado de la Cruz, a desayunar unas deliciosas y muy tradicionales gorditas de migaja con El Güero. Una vez que hayas almorzado una (¡o varias!) gorditas, puedes pasear por uno de los mercados más grandes de la ciudad, que además cuenta con una sección de flores frescas, semillas y quesos envidiables, además de los antojitos y curiosidades típicas de la región y de los tianguis de fin de semana. Tras satisfacer tu curiosidad y apetito garnachero, una breve caminata (para quemar las calorías de esa última gordita) camino arriba por Gutiérrez Nájera hasta 5 de mayo y de ahí camino abajo te llevará a la Plaza de Armas, donde serás recibido por el Marqués de la Villa del Villar del Águila, don Juan Antonio de Urrutia, constructor de los emblemáticos Arcos y acueducto queretanos.

Ambling about without a fixed destination and taking in the sights and traditional architecture is well worth it but, sometimes the experience can be even more rewarding if you have a place to go. On this occasion, we suggest a route that will leave you happy! Like all worthwhile adventures, the challenge here is to begin, and we say that because you’ll have to “get up at the crack of dawn” on a Saturday morning to arrive early at the Mercado de la Cruz, for a delicious breakfast of very traditional gorditas de migajas at El Güero Gorditas. Once you’ve savored one (or more!), you can stroll through one of the largest markets in the city, which has a section with fresh flowers, seeds and extraordinary cheeses, plus snacks, a weekend flea market and typical curiosities of the region. After satisfying your curiosity and appetite for cholesterol, take a short hike up Gutiérrez Nájera (to burn off the fat from that last gordita) until calle 5 de Mayo, and then down the hill to the Plaza de Armas, where you will be greeted by the Marquis de Villa del Villar del Aguila, Juan Antonio de Urrutia, who built the iconic arches and aqueducts of Queretaro.

Hay muchos buenos restaurantes donde comer ricas enchiladas a todas horas, pero sin lugar a dudas, uno de los más conocidos es con las señoritas de la Mariposa, una de las cafeterías de mayor historia en la ciudad. Durante años, los parroquianos van todas las semanas por un buen plato de enchiladas verdes, gratinadas y no sólo eso, los helados de mantecado y las frutas cristalizadas son irremplazables y escala obligada en tu visita por la ciudad.

There are many good restaurants to choose from where you can find delicious enchiladas at any time but, without a doubt, one of the best known is Las Señoritas de la Mariposa, one of the most historic cafes in the city. For years, parishioners have gone there every week for a good plate of scalloped enchiladas verdes, and not only that but the ice cream de mantecado and the crystallized fruits are a definitive must on your visit to the city.

Find Panchitos River Mariscaria at Universidad # 140, their seafood cocktails are delicious, well priced, and super-fresh. A lo mejor fuimos en mal día, pero de entre 4 recetas, la única que se se salvó fue la de ajo con limón. ¿Sabroso? ¡Sí!, ¿Romántico?... Si quieres comida italiana con una sazón de auténtico hogar italiano, el Ristorante Nabucco sigue siendo un clásico queretano, desgraciadamente su vajilla y mantelería no lo son. La calidad de tus alimentos no tendrá problema alguno, pero si quieres impresionar a tu pareja ten en cuenta al menos un plato vendrá despostillado por el uso.

If you are a true follower of the wings, avoid the franchises which have plummeted in quality recipes and ingredients. Maybe we went on a bad day but, among the 4 recipes we sampled, the only one that passed was the garlic with lemon. Tasty? Yes! Romantic ?... If you want Italian food with a flavor of authentic Italian home cooking, Ristorante Nabucco remains a classic Queretaro institution, unfortunately, their china and linens are not up to par. There is no problem with the quality of your food but, if you want to impress your partner, a chipped plate won’t do the trick.

Con una visión fotográfica, Coronel acoge a los personajes cotidianos: una prostituta, un teporocho o personajes de sociedad inmersos en la decadencia. Su objetivo: retratar la sociedad contemporánea. Manuel Felguérez resalta por su inagotable inventiva, justificación que él mismo encuentra en el tiempo como una causa de la trasformación del arte: “El arte tiene que ver con su momento”, dice. Su estilo se definió desde muy temprana edad a lado de su amigo y compañero, el escritor Jorge Ibargüengoitia, durante un viaje que emprendieron a París. El artista recuerda una Europa silenciosa, donde aún se respiraba el temor después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, por lo que las actividades culturales eran gratuitas, con excepción del teatro.
