MANAGER'S NOTES We approach today’s game in good spirits following strong performances in our recent fixtures. The mood in the squad is good and confidence is high. The team performance away at Moreton was probably our best yet and it was most pleasing to see everyone involved playing their part. At last Gary and I have the full, very strong squad to select from. I have to compliment the attitude of some squad members who are supporting other teams within the club.
that there is always talent available from the bench. Selection is getting tricky but it’s a nice problem for us to have. However, we are only 3 league games into the season and have some difficult fixtures ahead. Starting today with our visitors Hereford Pegasus. I would like to welcome the players and officials from Pegasus and apologise for the previous fixture cancellation. Thanks to Paul and the committee for resolving the messy water issue. Enjoy the game. Jason Rees First Team Manager
Today’s team will be strong and we know

THORNBURY TOWN CLUB HISTORY
It is understood that football has been played in Thornbury from around 1898 and formerly known as Thornbury Sports became Thornbury Town FC in the early 1970’s. Mundy Playing Fields has been the home of the club since the end of World War Two although changing facilities were sited in local places such as the Exchange Hotel, which is now The Knot of Rope. 1968-69 we became founder members of the Gloucestershire County League and spectator figures in excess of 500 were regularly recorded. In 1971 the club finished third in the Gloucestershire County League and was accepted into the Western League. However, due to difficulties in bringing the facilities up to the leagues required standards were unable to take the next step up. Relegation to the Bristol Premier Combination League unfortunately followed in 1976-77. The following 20+ years saw Thornbury Town strive to regain their former status, never really threatening to take the Premier Combination title. The only success during these lean years was reaching the final of the GFA Senior Amateur Cup in 1985-86 and 198990 unfortunately on both occasions loser’s medals were received. During the late 1990’s, the Club maintained its strong focus on developing local talent and this eventually bore fruit in 1999 when the final

of the Stroud Charity Cup was reached, losing narrowly to Dursley Town. 2001-02 season saw the management team of Dave Wiffill and Steve Burbage take the reins, which brought instant success winning the Bristol Premier Combination title by 13 points and a return to the Gloucestershire County League. This followed a run of thirteen consecutive league wins a club record, which still stands to this day. The league and cup double eluded the club when they were defeated by Sea Mills in the League Cup Final. In preparation for the return to County League football the summer of 2002 saw a lot of hard work undertaken on the Mundy facilities with the building of dug-outs, improved drainage and revamping of the dressing rooms. All this work appeared to have been worth while with the club establishing itself back in the Gloucestershire County league with a creditable 7th league position for the next three seasons. Silverware did come our way in 2003-04 when we defeated Taverners on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, to lift the Stroud Charity Cup. The 2003-04 season, also saw the formation of an Under-18’s side under the management of Terry Payton in order to maintain Youth development within the club and they gained entry to the Gloucester County Youth League. Following a number of indifferent seasons when relegation back to the Bristol Premier Combination league was only just averted in 2006–07, a new management committee and first team management were appointed. Dave Lippiatt took over as first team manager, coming to the club from Sea Mills Park bringing with him Carl Derosa as his assistant. With an initial three / four year strategy, which came to fruition during the 2009-10 season when after a steady first half to the season a tremendous
winning run of ten league games saw the Surridge Gloucestershire County League title won for the first time in the clubs history. 2010 also saw the milestone achievement of the long awaited coming together of the two local football clubs “Thornbury Town FC” and “Thornbury Falcons FC” now under one club management umbrella of Thornbury Town FC without losing the heritage and identity of Thornbury Falcons. This will further enhance the long term development within the local community for junior, youth and senior football. In the 2010-11 season the final of the Les James Cup Final was reached, which resulted in a penalty shoot-out disappointment against Henbury Town. 2013-14 saw the U18’s in their highest league position in the Gloucestershire County Youth League finishing runners-up, which was a tremendous achievement for the team and managers Simon Pirie and Mark Franklin.
The 2014-15 season was a very successful season finishing 4th in the league and winning the Les James Cup for the first time in the Club’s history. Andy Davies continues to produce a team of quality which resulted in a third 4th-place in a row in Season 2016-17. 2017-18 saw the club finally succeed in their quest win the Gloucestershire County League. After a lot of work behind the scenes to gain planning permission for the required ground improvements, the club were accepted into the Hellenic League for the first time in our history. Our first season in the Hellenic League saw us finish a creditable 3rd in Div 1 West and win the Supplementary Cup. With a new management team of Jason Rees and Gary Kemp in place we look forward to the season ahead and wish all teams the best of luck in their endeavours.

HEREFORD PEGASUS CLUB HISTORY
In 1955 when Noel Watkin was in charge of the Herefordshire County Boys. There was a great team bond, so when the County fixtures were through, the team asked if they could stay together and Pegasus Juniors came into being, taking the name from the famous amateur side of the era.
In 2005 Pegasus Juniors opened their new ground at Old School Lane with funding from The Football Foundation, Football Association local trusts and directors. The facilities have continually been improved since with grant funded work in 2013 replacing the perimeter fence, upgrading the car park and extending the clubhouse. This season, our biggest project to date, has seen the installation of a state of the art artificial turf pitch along with upgraded LED floodlights.
In 2010 the club decided to move its first team to the West Midland (Regional) League for season 2011/12 as the Hellenic League was, at the time veering, in an It was inevitable that players would move easterly direction. The highlight during our on to higher grades of football and many eight seasons in the West Midlands was did that with distinction. THORNBURY TOWN 3 H. BROCK, J. BROCK, FRANKLIN
CLANFIELD 85 2 MAYS, HISCOCK Despite the absence of leading scorer Craig Lancastle, Thornbury Town secured their first win of the season on Saturday with a battling performance against visitors Clanfield. However it was Clanfield who took a 1st minute lead when they attacked straight from the kick off and a misunderstanding at the heart of the Thorns defence allowed Kevin Davies to slot the ball past Kurtis Parkin. They almost doubled their lead a minute later but Isaac Oliver miscued his shot at the far post. Town gradually clawed their way back into the game and Marcus Wormwell’s effort from just inside the penalty area went narrowly wide. 15 minutes in, Brandon Benjamin appeared to be brought down by Clanfield keeper Zoldan but the referee waved away appeals for a penalty. Minutes later the same two were in action again with Zoldan saving at Benjamin’s feet as he latched on to Jim Brock’s cross. The visitors looked dangerous on the break but the closest they came to extending their lead was Robinson’s free kick which he curled into the side netting. First half stoppage time saw both sides reduced to 10 men when a clash between Marcus Wormwell and Clanfield’s Kevin Davies gave the referee no option but to show both players a straight red card.

Thorns made the perfect start to the second half when after just 3 minutes Luke Franklin made a strong run into the Clanfield area but his shot cannoned back off the post. However Harry Brock, following up, despatched the rebound past Zoldan to equalise. Things got even better 10 minutes later when a patient Town build-up saw Franklin backheel the ball to Jim Brock in the penalty area and he slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-1. Harry Brock was in action again shortly after and after weaving his way past the Clanfield defence, shot straight at Zoldan. Midway through the half Toby Bennett’s effort from the edge of the area didn’t carry quite enough power and Zoldan was able to save at full stretch. However Thorns didn’t have long to wait to extend their lead further when Harry Brock was brought down in the area and Luke Franklin made no mistake from the penalty spot. With the game won, Town conceded a sloppy goal in stoppage time with the visitor's Joe Hiscock allowed time and space to lob the ball over Kurtis Parkin’s head and although Ollie Rawnsley cleared off the line Hiscock followed up to net a consolation for Clanfield.

Saturday 31st August - Buildbase FA Vase First Round Qualifying
THORNBURY TOWN 6 H. BROCK, J. BROCK, FARTHING, HODGSON, LANCASTLE (2)
CHELTENHAM SARACENS 2 MAHON, PRICE Having fallen at the first hurdle in the FA Cup, Thornbury were hoping to get a bit closer to Wembley in the FA Vase and they advanced to the second qualifying round with an emphatic victory over Cheltenham Saracens. It was slightly against the run of play when some good football released Thornbury's Toby Bennett on the right and his chipped cross was met by the head of Harry Brock who found the bottom corner. On 32 minutes, Harlie Price went down in the Town box, but the referee waved his appeals away and almost immediately the ball was in the net at the other end when a Brandon Benjamin run and pull-back found Jim Brock who in turn found the bottom corner. Five minutes later it was 3-0 when Craig Lancastle's well placed shot went in off the far post The first-half action wasn't over though and on 41 minutes Parkin was this time adjudged to have brought down the Cheltenham forward. The keeper was sent to the sin-bin for protesting with Benjamin replacing him between the sticks - only for Kai Mahon to slot the ball past him Parkin was soon back on after his ten minutes in the bin but the start of the second half was uneventful and it was a combination of a Cheltenham sin-bin and the introduction of

Hodgson that saw him cut in and shoot low to make it 4-1 on 70 minutes Farthing replaced Benjamin on 74 minutes and it was only a minute later when he was fouled inside the box with Lancastle doubling his tally with the resulting penalty. Price made it 5-2 with a clinical finish but Thornbury were still not done when in stoppage-time Farthing scored via the underside of the bar.

Sunday 15th September - Buildbase FA Vase Second Round Qualifying
WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK 0 THORNBURY TOWN 1 LANCASTLE Thornbury made the long coach trip to Berkshire hoping to move another step closer to Wembley against a side playing at the same level in the football pyramid. In front of a large crown enjoying the sun, the game started slowly with the only action of note in the first ten minutes being a couple of Wokingham corners which were easily dealt with. The next period saw Thornbury start to get their passing game going, creating a string of corners which again didn’t come to anything – in fact the first effort of the game was half way through the half when Brandon Benjamin shot wide. Thornbury were now playing the better football but the best chance of the half fell to the Wokingham No.9 who dragged his shot wide after the defence got caught with the ball. The tail end of the half saw Kurtis Parkin in the Thornbury goal called upon more regularly but seldom really troubled with a free header from a free-kick going over. Nil – nil at half time with Thornbury having the majority of the possession but Wokingham having the better chances. Half time saw a couple of changes for the visitors with Mark Viner going off injured to be replaced by Jacob Farthing and a tactical switch seeing Rhys

Hodgson replace Jim Brock out wide. Luke Franklin and Hodgson began creating openings down the left with Craig Lancastle firing straight at the keeper, Hodgson, Bennett & Franklin having shots deflected and Benjamin heading over. With a welcome drinks break on 75 minutes and extra-time & penalties looming, Thornbury knew that one last sustained period of pressure could see them over the line. So, into the last ten and Toby Bennett found Harry Brock who crossed for leading scorer Lancastle to side-foot the ball past the ‘keeper to take the lead. Unsurprisingly Wokingham then got the ball forward into the Thornbury box at every opportunity but Parkin and the defence stood firm and a first clean sheet of the season saw Thornbury into the hat for the First Round proper. The draw for the first round proper was made on Monday lunchtime and Thornbury have another road trip – this time to Wiltshire where they meet Downton from the Wessex League on Saturday 12th October

MORETON RANGERS 1 WYATT
THORNBURY TOWN 2 BENNETT, LANCASTLE Back to league action for Thornbury - only their third league match of the season due to participation in four cups – and a trip to Moreton who were a bit of an unknown having won the division below to gain promotion and with a mixed bag of results so far. With the referee deeming both Thornbury kits – red home and blue away - clashed with the home strip a quick search of the facilities revealed some yellow shirts from the 1980’s and the game got going in brilliant sunshine. Moreton had the better of the early exchanges but the first 30 minutes produced little in the way of clear chances and at times the two keepers seemed to be trying to out do each other in the long kick department. Having shot straight at the keeper, Brandon Benjamin then turned provider after being released down the left and his pull back was met by Toby Bennett whose shot from 20+ yards found the bottom corner. Minutes later Harry Brock looked to have been taken town in the area but the referee adjudged it to be just outside and the resulting free-kick was driven in but the deflection was cleared off the line. There was still time for another chance when Craig Lancastle’s attempt to chip the keeper was met with an acrobatic save.
within a minute Jacob Farthing had found the side-netting and soon after Bennett fired past the left-hand post. Benjamin limped off on 51 mins with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Rhys Hodgson and Thornbury now had the better of the possession. A rare foray into the visitors box saw a home forward go over in the box only for the referee to show a yellow card for diving. Marcus Wormwell, ban over, replaced Farthing on the right on 68’ and it was only a few minutes later when Brock put the home defence under pressure, dispossessed the defender, broke forward and his chipped pass across goal found Lancastle at the far post to side-foot home – now scoring in seven consecutive matches. When Brock’s cross-shot hit the post on 80 minutes there was little sign of a nervy finish but when on 83’ Franklin somehow managed to release the Moreton No.11 to round Parkin and fire into the roof of the net – the home sides first attempt for 50 minutes – the game wasn’t quite over. Franklin nearly made amends in the very next minute when his deflected shot produced the save of the match from the home ‘keeper but as it was Thornbury saw the game out comfortably even managing to get the shot stats up without troubling the home keeper.
Thornbury started the second half brightly and
