2017 SEASON IN REVIEW Portland finished the 2017 regular season with a mark of 14-5-5, earning a playoff berth for the fourth time in five seasons. Thorns FC won their second NWSL Championship in five seasons (2013, 2017), while also establishing single-season records for points (47), wins (14), home wins (10) and shutouts (11). As a team, Portland had the top defense in the NWSL for a second consecutive season, allowing the fewest goals (20) and finished tied for the lowest goalsagainst average (0.83) in league history. Goalkeeper Adrianna Franch set an NWSL single-season record for shutouts (11) and was named NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year and NWSL Best XI. Defenders Meghan Klingenberg and Emily Menges were named to the NWSL Second XI along with midfielder Lindsey Horan.

LAST MATCH RECAP Playing their second of back-to-back matches on the road, Thorns FC earned a 3-2 win on the road against the Chicago Red Stars on March 31. Lindsey Horan opened the scoring in the ninth minute, while Christine Sinclair added a goal in each half to help Portland earn its first win of the 2018 season.

MATCH PREVIEW Following back-to-back road matches and an international break, Thorns FC return to Providence Park for their 2018 home opener against the Orlando Pride on Sunday at 3 p.m. (Pacific). For a third straight season, Portland opens its home campaign against the Pride. Thorns FC are 4-0-1 all-time, including the playoffs, against Orlando. Portland has outscored the Pride at home 8-2, including their 2017 playoff win. The last time Portland played at Providence Park was against the Pride in the semifinal round of the 2017 NWSL playoffs. Thorns FC earned a 4-1 win in the match. Both teams enter Sunday’s match coming off a road match with Portland winning at Chicago and Orlando falling on the road against Washington.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC have led the league in attendance in each of their first five NWSL seasons. Globally, Thorns FC have the highest attendance of any women’s professional team in the world, averaging 17,653 fans in their fifth season in the league in 2017. On Sept. 30, 2017, Thorns FC recorded their fourth sellout in club history.
