ON THE ROAD Thorns FC are 11-4-6 all time on the road in all competitions, dating back to the 2013 season. Portland has continued its strong road form in 2014 with the second-best road record in the league (3-2-3). In 21 road matches since 2013, Thorns FC have outscored their opponents, 29-18. Portland has conceded multiple goals on the road just four times and registered eight shutouts. As a team, Portland has conceded just nine goals on the road this season, while recording two shutouts. This season, midfielder Allie Long has scored four of her eight goals on the road, while forward Alex Morgan has tallied two of her three goals away from the Rose City. MATCH PREVIEW Thorns FC return to Lisle, Ill., for their third match, and final, regular-season match against the Chicago Red Stars on Thursday, July 17, at Benedictine Sports Complex; kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. (Pacific). The two teams have met twice during the month of July and face off for the second time in nine days on Thursday. Chicago and Portland played to a 2-2 draw on July 4 at Providence Park and a 1-1 draw on July 9 at the Benedictine Sports Complex. Both teams enter Thursday’s match unbeaten in their last three games. In their last meeting, midfielder Allie Long converted from the spot in the 27th minute after midfielder Verónica Boquete was fouled in the box to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Chicago equalized in the 86th minute after Thorns FC were whistled for a handball in the box. Forward Emily Van Egmond scored the penalty-kick goal for the Red Stars.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC drew an average crowd of 13,320 fans per game during the inaugural 2013 National Women’s Soccer League season. Through nine home games in 2014, Thorns FC has averaged 12,192 fans at Providence Park. Portland’s tallied an NWSL record 17,619 fans at the team’s 2013 regular-season, home finale against FC Kansas City on Aug. 4, 2013.
