ROAD WARRIORS Heading to Washington, Portland will play its fourth road game in its last six matches as part of a larger stretch of six road matches in 10 games that started with back-to-back road games on May 13 and May 19. Thorns FC have found success on the road, earning at least a point in 11 of their last 14 road games, including three points in their last road match - a 2-0 win at Sky Blue FC on June 3. Additionally, Portland has only conceded multiple goals in a road match three times since the beginning of 2016, while also scoring at least one goal in 10 of its 14 previous road contests.
LAST MATCH RECAP Portland conceded an early goal and was unable to mount a second-half comeback, falling 3-1 to Sky Blue FC on June 17 at Providence Park. The loss marked Thorns FC’s first at home since July 9, 2016, snapping the club’s eight-game regular-season home unbeaten streak as well as a stretch of six games unbeaten this season. Christine Sinclair tallied Portland’s lone goal deep in second-half stoppage time, pouncing on the rebound and finishing after her penalty kick was saved by goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.

MATCH PREVIEW Portland Thorns FC begin a stretch of three games in an eight-day span as they travel to square off against the Washington Spirit in the first of three meetings between the two sides in 2017. Thorns FC have been one of the best teams on the road since the start of the 2016 season. Portland is averaging a point and a half from road games, the most of any team in the league. In their last three road games, Thorns FC have posted a record of 1-0-2, recording two shutouts, which is tied for the most in the league.

Portland’s average home attendance in 2016 ranked better than 12 English Championship teams, 10 Ligue 1 teams, 7 Serie A clubs and 5 La Liga sides home attendance numbers during their 2015-16 season in addition to 10 NBA and 10 NHL teams.
