LAST MATCH RECAP Portland extended its unbeaten streak on the road to six matches (3-0-3) with a 3-1 win against the Houston Dash on June 22. Tobin Heath and Ana Crnogorcevic each tallied their second goals of the season, all of which have come on the road, while Christine Sinclair added a goal and an assist in her 100th game for the club, marking the second time this season a Thorns FC player has scored a goal in her 100th career NWSL match. In addition, goalkeeper Adrianna Franch returned to the field for the first time since April 15.

MATCH PREVIEW Following back-to-back road matches, Portland Thorns FC face a quick turnaround as they play host to Sky Blue FC in a midweek match on Wednesday, June 27, at Providence Park. Wednesday’s match marks the first of three meetings between Portland and Sky Blue FC this season, and the first of two games at Providence Park between the two sides. In addition, it’s the first home match for Thorns FC in over 25 days as Portland last played at Providence Park on May 30. Thorns FC are currently in the midst of stretch that includes three matches out of four on the road and six of their next 10 away from Providence Park, including three straight road matches from July 21-Aug. 11.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC have led the league in attendance in each of their first five NWSL seasons. Globally, Thorns FC have the highest attendance of any women’s professional team in the world, averaging 17,653 fans in their fifth season in the league in 2017. On Sept. 30, 2017, Thorns FC recorded their fourth sellout in club history. Portland played host to Orlando in its home opener on April 15, 2018, drawing a crowd of 16,466 - the second largest crowd for a Thorns FC home opener in club history.

HEAD COACH MARK PARSONS Head coach Mark Parsons enters his third season with Thorns FC in 2018. Since joining the club for the 2016 season, Parsons has helped Portland to an NWSL Championship (2017) and NWSL Shield (2016), helping Thorns FC become the first NWSL team with three trophies, while compiling a mark of 31-12-14 (.667) and 12 or more wins in each of his first two seasons with the club. On May 25, 2018, Parsons became the third coach in league history to register 50 career wins. During his tenure, Thorns FC have finished in the top two in the NWSL regularseason standings in both seasons, winning the club’s first NWSL Shield in 2016, and second NWSL Championship, while helping Portland secure a home playoff match in consecutive seasons. Under Parsons, Thorns FC have secured one of the top home-field advantages in the league, registering just five losses at Providence Park since his arrival (19-5-4) and became the first team in league history in 2017 to record 10 home victories in a season with the second-best home record in league history (10-1-1). In just his second season with the club, Parsons helped Portland lift the NWSL Championship trophy behind one of the most dominant defensive performances in league history. Thorns FC tied the singleseason record for the top defense in NWSL history, posting a 0.83 goals-against average, while also equaling the mark for the most home shutouts (7) in a single season. In addition, Thorns FC finished the 2017 regular-season campaign ranked first in fewest goals conceded (20), fewest goals conceded at home (8) and fewest goals conceded on the road (12). The 2016 NWSL Coach of the Year in his first season with Thorns FC, Parsons led Portland to the NWSL Shield. With Parsons at the helm, Thorns FC finished the season with a 12-3-5 record as they hosted the club’s first-ever home playoff game. In addition, Portland registered the best home record (8-1-1) and best road record (4-2-4) in the league, while beginning the season with the second-longest unbeaten streak in league history (12 games). Parsons oversaw a defensive unit that became just the third team in league history to allow less than a goal per game over the course of an entire season (19 goals in 20 games, 0.95 goals-against average) and offensively the team ranked second in the league in goals (35) and tied for second in assists (23). Prior to joining Thorns FC, Parsons served as the head coach and general manager of the Washington Spirit of the NWSL, helping guide the Spirit to consecutive playoff appearances during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Assuming the role of head coach in July 2013 and general manger in September 2013, Parsons helped engineer one of the most successful turnarounds in league history as the Spirit went on to a 10-win season and secured a berth in the league playoffs in 2014 after winning just three games the previous season. In addition, the Spirit Reserves won the W-League Championship, the U20s were national finalists and five Super Y Academy teams were also national finalists with Parsons at the helm as general manager. As the head coach of the Spirit Reserves in 2013, Parsons led the team to a third-place finish at the National Championships, while also helping launch the club’s academy programs. In 2012, Parsons helped guide the D.C. United Women U20s to the National Championship match, earning a runner-up finish. From 2014-10, Parsons worked with Chelsea FC girls and boys academies, while also serving as the head coach for the Chelsea Ladies Reserves from 2008-10 and ss an assistant coach with the U16 Girls Academy. The Cranleigh, Surrey, native holds UEFA A and B Licenses, a US Youth Soccer National Youth License and US Soccer B License. Mark, his wife, Hannah, and their daugther Edie (4) reside in Beaverton.

CAPTAIN CONSISTENT Christine Sinclair is one of just two players in the league this season with at least five goals and three assists. Sinclair currently leads the league in goals scored (7) and points (18) and ranks tied for for the league lead with four assists. Notably, Sinclair has tallied a goal or an assist in eight of Portland’s first 13 matches.

DYNAMIC DUO Sinclair and midfielder Lindsey Horan have combined for 12 of Thorns FC’s 19 goals this season. Sinclair and Horan are the highest scoring pair in the NWSL this season. Sinclair leads the league with seven goals scored, while Horan is tied for third with five goals. Portland is 5-2-1 this season when either Sinclair or Horan tallies a goal.

In it’s last match on June 16 against the Orlando Pride, Sky Blue FC rallied twice to level the match, but the Pride tallied a late game-winner to earn a 3-2 victory.
