TIME CHANGE Portland Thorns FC announced this week that game time for Saturday’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match against Seattle Reign FC at Providence Park has been changed to 4 p.m. (Pacific). Originally scheduled for 7 p.m., the time has been moved up to avoid conflicts with Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals between the Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs, a game also played in Portland. The Trail Blazers and Spurs are set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m., and today’s announcement was made to allow fans the option to attend or watch both games. Gates open at 3 p.m. for Saturday’s game against Reign FC. All originally issued tickets for Saturday’s match will be honored for the new time. Fans who have conflicts arise from the time change are asked to contact their individual ticket representative or the Thorns FC ticket department at (503) 553-5555, starting Monday, May 12.

MATCH PREVIEW Saturday’s match marks the first of three regular-season games between Pacific Northwest foes Portland Thorns FC and Seattle Reign FC, the only two remaining undefeated teams in the National Women’s Soccer League. Starting the 2014 season with a four-match unbeaten streak, Thorns FC are unbeaten in eight straight games in all competitions (5-0-3) since Aug. 10, 2013. Portland has conceded just three goals in four matches, which ranks tied for second-fewest goals conceded in the league, while forward Jessica McDonald has registered three goals in the last two matches, including a brace against FC Kansas City in Portland’s home opener. Thorns FC rank among league leaders in shots (54) and shots on goal (25), while German international goalkeeper Nadine Angerer has logged a 0.75 goals-against average in four appearances. Entering Saturday’s match, Portland has earned a 4-0-0 all-time record against Seattle, outscoring Reign FC 7-2, including 4-1 at Providence Park. Thorns FC tallied a 2-1 win over Seattle in their first-ever home match at Providence Park on April 21, 2013, as defender Marian Dougherty and forward Alex Morgan registered goals in the win. On the road for a third consecutive week, Seattle leads the NWSL in goal scoring (15) and defense (2 goals conceded) through its first five matches of the season. Scottish midfielder Kim Little leads the league with four goals and was named the NWSL Army National Guard Player of the Month for April, while Welsh midfielder Jessica Fishlock has registered two goals and three assists this season. U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo leads the league with three shutouts and ranks second with a 0.40 goals-against average.
