LAST MATCH RECAP Portland got off to a fast start, tallying three first-half goals in a 4-0 win against the Washington Spirit on Sept. 2 at Providence Park. Thorns FC recorded their ninth clean sheet of the campaign and received a brace from forward Christine Sinclair, her second of the 2017 season, while defender Emily Sonnett and forward Nadia Nadim each recorded a goal and an assist in the match. In addition, defender Meghan Klingenberg tallied her sixth assist of the season, which ranks tied for second in the NWSL.

SURGING FORWARD After a June 24 loss on the road against Washington, Portland has bounced back in convincing fashion over the last 11 games with a record of 8-2-1. During that stretch, Hayley Raso and Christine Sinclair have each scored five goals. Lindsey Horan has two goals and two assists, while Emily Sonnett has three goals and an assist. In addition, Meghan Klingenberg has added four assists. A total of seven players have scored a goal for Portland during that stretch.

MATCH PREVIEW Portland opens up a two-game road swing, traveling to square off against the Boston Breakers on Sunday at Jordan Field. Thorns FC will play two of their final three games on the road, including a match against Orlando on Sept. 23. Thorns FC sercured their fourth playoff berth in four seasons last week. Heading into matches this weekend, Portland can clinch a home playoff game with a win against Boston and a Chicago Red Stars draw or loss on the road against FC Kansas City on Saturday. Portland visits Boston currently riding a three-game winning streak, while having won seven of its last eight and two of its last three road matches.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC have led the league in attendance in each of their first four NWSL seasons. Globally, Thorns FC have the highest attendance of any women’s professional team in the world, averaging 16,945 fans in their fourth season in the league in 2016. Portland’s average home attendance in 2016 ranked better than 12 English Championship teams, 10 Ligue 1 teams, 7 Serie A clubs and 5 La Liga sides home attendance numbers during their 2015-16 season in addition to 10 NBA and 10 NHL teams. In four seasons, Portland has averaged better than 14,815 fans per game, including four matches of more than 20,000 fans as well as three sellouts (21,144).
