LAST MATCH RECAP Thorns FC secured a home playoff game for a second straight season, earning a 1-0 win on the road against the Boston Breakers on Sept. 10. It marked Portland’s third road win in its last four matches away from Providence Park. Thorns FC recorded their 10th clean sheet of the campaign as goalkeeper Adrianna Franch tied the NWSL single-season record with her 10th shutout of the season. Forward Christine Sinclair tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the campain, assisted by forward Hayley Raso, in the 72nd minute to help Thorns FC earn the win on the road.

SURGING FORWARD After a June 24 loss on the road against Washington, Portland has bounced back in convincing fashion over the last 12 games with a record of 9-2-1. During that stretch, Christine Sinclair has scored six goals and Hayley Raso has tallied five goals. Lindsey Horan has two goals and two assists, while Emily Sonnett has three goals and an assist. In addition, Meghan Klingenberg has added four assists. A total of nine players have scored a goal for Portland during that stretch.

MATCH PREVIEW With just two matches remaining on the regular-season schedule, Thorns FC travel to square off against the Orlando Pride in the second meeting between the two sides this season on Saturday, Sept. 23. Portland has won three of its last four games on the road as part of a stretch of eight wins in its last nine games. Additionally, Thorns FC have won four straight games. Saturday’s meeting features one of the best defensive teams in the league in Thorns FC, which have conceded the second-fewest goals (19) in the NWSL and the Pride, which have scored a league-leading 42 goals.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC have led the league in attendance in each of their first four NWSL seasons. Globally, Thorns FC have the highest attendance of any women’s professional team in the world, averaging 16,945 fans in their fourth season in the league in 2016. Portland’s average home attendance in 2016 ranked better than 12 English Championship teams, 10 Ligue 1 teams, 7 Serie A clubs and 5 La Liga sides home attendance numbers during their 2015-16 season in addition to 10 NBA and 10 NHL teams. In four seasons, Portland has averaged better than 14,815 fans per game, including four matches of more than 20,000 fans as well as three sellouts (21,144).
