Ho Ho Ho!!! Big City Santa here ready for party and present time! What’s that you say? The Mayan calendar says the world is going to end this month. Wildebeest poo! When was the last time you saw a Mayan? I thought so. If they were so good at telling us when the world would end, why weren’t they so good at telling us when they would end? Ha-ha. Sounds like an urban legend to me. Personally I’ve always been an Aztec man, so I will go with that calendar. * Side note - at least I got a reason to PARTY LIKE AN ANIMAL this month!!!!! Come to think of it I love Mayans and their B.S.!

Violet is a 1 year old cute lop ear bunny. Surprisingly Violet is a boy, so once he is adopted he would probably love a name change! Violet is a nice bunny who needs a larger area to move around in. Unfortunately at the shelter we have to keep them in little cages and they have no room to hop or play. Once the bunny’s are placed in a larger run or an open pen for playtime, they get very excited and become much more animated. Mulan is a beautiful 5 year old Siamese mix who came to our shelter back in September when her owner could no longer care for her and her sister. She is a social cat that likes people and will come up and greet anyone who opens her cage. She has a lot of personality and does not appreciate when we go in and take anything from her cage. Mulan likes her blankets, litter box, and beds to stay the same and watches very disgruntled as we switch them out to clean them. Mulan loves her sister very much and must go home with her.

Gary is a 5 year old Chihuahua mix who came into our SPCA when he ran out of time at another animal shelter. He is a young sweet dog but has some slight cataracts, he can see fine but in the future he might need to have then removed. He is a spunky little dog with a lot of personality and character. Fast movements will frighten him slightly but if you sit on the ground and pat your lap he will come right up to you to snuggle. Giselle is a 1 year old Pit mix who is an absolute favorite at the shelter. She is so calm and loving, she does very well with children. She is not housebroken at this time because she was kept outside all her life and is learning how to be a loved indoor dog at the shelter. She may look like a bully breed but she is one of the most kind and loving dogs we currently have here at the shelter, please come by and meet Giselle and you will understand what we see in her.

Tina is a brown tabby, domestic short haired cat that came in with Mulan. Everyone that comes into the shelter to see the two cats always falls in love with Mulan because she looks like a Siamese. We have even had people ask if they could just take Mulan because Tina is not as pritty. Poor Tina, she is a very sweet and lovable cat with a ton of personality. If given the chance she will quickly become your favorite with her little white face and the fact that she loves playing with bouncy balls. Melly is a young friendly little guinea pig. She looks like 2 different guinea pigs depending what side of her you are looking at. One side is tricolored and she has a cute brown patch around her eye, the other is almost all white. Melly came to our shelter in September when a gentleman’s roommate abandoned their two guinea pigs with him and he could not take care of them. This is a kind little creature that makes a fun and original pet. Stop by our shelter to visit the animals shown or the many others up for adoption! This morning I got up at 5 am and rode with 5 other veterans from our American Legion Post 223, Sykesville, to Aberdeen Proving Grounds for a thank you to veteran’s celebration in honor of Veterans Day. It was called Thunderblast. We met up with other brothers/sisters from all over Maryland in a Walmart parking lot to stage and ride in a police escorted procession to APG. As we were riding this morning, I realized how wonderful it was to be a veteran and to finally be thanked for the sacrifices we have made. Even if it took 40 years to get it. We will gladly accept the thank you›s and humbly say thank you back. When we arrived at APG, we were greeted by active duty soldiers who went out of their way to make us proud and thankful to have been a soldier. Children from the base schools had written thank you notes to pass out to all the veterans. As we sat in the mess hall and read these letters, everyone at our table started to cry. I for one could not even speak. I couldn›t even finish reading the letter. For us to know how thankful America is for its veterans is something I never really knew. And to come from children. WOW! Just too much. Tomorrow is Veterans Day. To some people it is just another holiday when they are off from work. To us it means a time to sit back and reflect on our younger years and how the military made us what we are today. We will remember those troops in harm’s way and those who never came home. So on Veterans Day make sure you go out of your way to thank a veteran. As a matter of fact, thank them 6

every day that you see them. Hug them. Shake their hands. Tell them how grateful you are for their service. Because of our veterans, America is free today and always will be. As members of ABATE of Maryland, we see ourselves as freedom fighters also. We continue to fight the fight for freedom. Freedom from stereotyping, discrimination and from a repressive government. Freedom to get on our bikes and ride whenever and wherever we choose. There is still a lot of work to be done. So if you want to be in the freedom fighting business, join us and continue the fight. Fight to keep the freedoms we have before they disappear before your eyes. On behalf of ABATE of Maryland, thank you to all veterans who have served and are serving this country as we speak. We will continue the fight. Michelle Holcomb Executive Director ABATE of Maryland, Inc.

When you tell someone in Maryland “I’m going to Cancun this weekend, wanna come?” They don’t stop to consider Mexico; they know you’re talking about Cancun Cantina, one of the largest and hottest bars in Maryland! And why wouldn’t you want to go; it has everything you’re looking for to have a night out with your friends or to meet new ones. If you go to their website, (www. cancuncantina.com) they’ll tell you they have seven bars, a restaurant, pool tables, two stages, and large dance floors. But that’s just the building! Cancun Cantina is not just a bar; it’s an experience - a destination! Whether your plan is to celebrate closing that big business deal, relax out by the palm trees, or on the prowl to find your future ex, Cancun Cantina has it all.

hand and decided to open a restaurant bar that could accommodate both. And, as every good business owner knows, the success of any good venue depends largely on the location and its staff. Tony boasts about having the friendliest staff and he is not wrong!

This past fall Cancun Cantina celebrated 20 years in business. Back then, there were a lot of Hip-Hop bars, but no true country bars. And the rock venues, such as Hammerjack’s, were falling by the wayside. Tony Toskov, the owner of Cancun Cantina, decided Country and Rock-n-Roll just went hand in

Some people, mostly the over 40 crowd, will remember this building as the old Mr. Pibbs or Johnny Walkers, but these days, it’s become the landmark known as Cancun Cantina. The layout of the building has also played a large role in its success over the years. Most of the regulars say it has two sides, a

Located on Dorsey road, next to BWI Airport, in the heart of Anne Arundel County, Cancun Cantina is easy to find and easy to get to from both 95 and 295. Parking isn’t a problem , not only do they have a huge parking lot; they have a special section just for motorcycles. Some nights, this motorcycle parking area is a bike show all by itself.

Country side and a Rock side. But that’s just the half of it. You could almost call Cancun Cantina a Campus. The restaurant at Cancun Cantina has everything from Chips and Salsa, to Filet Mignon and Crab Cakes, or my favorite, the Snake Bites. These are little chunks of beef tenderloin served in wing sauce with blue cheese on the side. So good and spicy! Next to the restaurant is the first of two dance floors and stages. This is commonly referred to as the Country side. Many country artists have played here from John Michael Montgomery, Charlie Daniels, to David Allan Coe. And some have played before they were famous, such as Trick Pony and Montgomery Gentry. In fact, Cancun Cantina has become a favorite spot among some artists like Keith Urban and Brett Michaels. Cancun’s state-of-the-art sound and lighting system makes it a great location for small intimate concerts with fans. Through the doors and on to the Patio, there is another stage and dance floor for the wilder side in you. On Friday nights, Cancun hosts some of the hottest Rock-n-Roll and top 40 bands from up and down the east coast, including the Amish Outlaws, the Reagan Years, and One Louder. And on Saturday nights, they have a DJ mixing it up to keep the crowd pumpin and jumpin! And if that wasn’t enough, just off the patio they have sand and palm trees. This is where you go to just sit and relax, meet 10

new people, and enjoy the attention of the staff. Every year, Tony brings up over a hundred Palm trees from Florida and plants them outside the patio. These are real palm trees, no need to shake them, they are real. Combine this with the sand, Tiki bar and plenty of seating; it’s your own little oasis. One of my favorite places to be as the day turns to night. This area also has a beach volleyball net set-up if you dare to challenge anyone to a game. Cancun Cantina has even hosted rodeos a time or two! The staff at Cancun Cantina is over the top. I don’t know about you, but I like it when the staff is having fun. And these girls have fun! From the bartenders to the beer tub and shooter girls, these girls are not only having fun, but they’re Hot!! Every one of the girls are quick with a smile, a flirty or sassy comment, and a drink. And if you find yourself without a drink, it’s because you’re too busy staring at the staff, you forget to order. I know. I’ve been there. Cancun Cantina is also one of the largest, if not the largest biker friendly bar in Maryland. Tony made a risky business decision to not allow the display of Colors or Support Wear on the Cancun Property. The decision wasn’t to offend anyone who wears a Cut, but to allow bikers to assemble without the worry of what club you support. And the risk has proven to be a popular and successful decision. As I mentioned before, Cancun Cantina has a big parking lot, and this has served well

DECEMBER 2012

THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

over the years for the numerous bike events they have hosted. At least one Sunday a month, Cancun Cantina hosts a bike or a Car and bike show in the parking lot. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say these shows attract anywhere from 300500 bikes at each event. In addition to the monthly bike shows, Cancun Cantina also hosts the annual Burn Ride every June. The ride is put together to benefit the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp for Children. Their mission is to help assist young burn survivors and their families in their adjustment to injury by providing an annual therapeutic residential summer camp and other year-round activities. In the last 9 years this ride has grown from just over 50 riders in the beginning to over 1500 last year. It’s an incredible cause, and it’s no surprise that bikers from all over turn out to support this foundation. In addition to the Burn Ride, Cancun Cantina also donates it’s building to use for other fundraising events throughout the year, such as the Take Back Our Streets Organization and the Special Olympics. Over the years, Cancun has gone through some changes. In December of 2006, a fire broke out in the storage area on THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

the second floor. The fire was put out quickly, but if you know anything about a fire, it’s not always the fire that does the damage, it’s generally the water used to put it out that causes most of the problems. There was never any hesitation or doubt that Cancun Cantina was going to reopen - Tony just picked up the pieces, repaired the damage to the floors and bars, gave her a facelift and reopened to a sellout crowd! You can’t help but have a good time at Cancun Cantina, or The Cantina, or just Cancun. Whatever you choose to call it, there truly is something for everyone. I happened to be there for the Amish Outlaws and the Halloween contest and when I looked around, everyone was having a good time. The motto at the Cancun Cantina is; Not strangers, just friends you haven’t met yet. And the entire staff is there to make sure you have a memorable experience. By Mike “Bighead” Abbott

News Bytes THE AIM/NCOM MOTORCYCLE E-NEWS SERVICE is brought to you by Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), and is sponsored by the Law Offices of Richard M. Lester. If you’ve been involved in any kind of accident, call us at 1-(800) ON-A-BIKE or visit www.ON-A-BIKE.com.

SPECIAL DELIVERY This year’s national Christmas Tree is being delivered to Washington, D.C. in a specially-decorated Mack truck driven by former U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, a long-serving member of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists Legislative Task Force (NCOMLTF) and member of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. As an avid motorcyclist, Campbell was one of motorcycling’s staunchest allies in Congress, representing Colorado from 1993-2005. “It is a privilege to drive the tree for the U.S. Capitol from Colorado this year,” remarked Campbell, who still has his commercial driver’s license. The 2012 Capitol Christmas Tree tour began Nov. 9 in Meeker, CO where the 73-foot Engleman spruce was harvested, and will take nearly a month to reach the Capitol with scheduled stopovers in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. ARIZONA TO ELIMINATE ANNUAL MOTORCYCLE EMISSIONS TESTING Maricopa County is the only place in America that requires emissions testing for motorcycles, but it won’t be for much longer according to a recent report from MMA of Arizona Lobbyist Bobbi Hartmann, who is also a member of the NCOM-Legislative Task Force; “The EPA is about to APPROVE the ADEQ’s State Implementation Plan (SIP), requesting the ELIMINATION OF EMISSIONS ON MOTORCYCLES IN MARICOPA COUNTY!!!” Emphasis included, so you can read into it the emotion and thrill of success after ten years of effort to eliminate the last motorcycle emissions test in the U.S. After the Kentucky Motorcycle Association (KMA/KBA) successfully removed motorcycles from their state’s emissions testing several years ago, Arizona was the lone state to still require it, but testing was limited to only Maricopa County (Phoenix) after motorcyclists successfully lobbied to end emission tests for motorcycles in Pima County (Tucson). Hartmann reports that she recently received a call from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), stating that although they had been expecting a “Disapproval Notice” from the EPA due to revised ozone levels at the federal level, their D.C. headquarters issued a Reversal of Opinion and approved their request for elimination of yearly motorcycle emissions in Maricopa/Pinal County (AREA A). “ADEQ expects the proposed EPA action to be signed this week and published in the Federal Register within 2 weeks,” explained Hartmann. “That starts the approximately 30 day Public Comment and EPA response to Public Comment period. Once that is complete, the EPA will sign the final action and then have 2 weeks to publish that in the Federal Register. The entire process should be FINAL and EFFECTIVE 60 days from that time frame, so the elimination of yearly emissions on motorcycles in AREA A should be effective by the end of first quarter of 2013 or before. It seems 12

that all of our efforts from 2002 until now, have finally paid off!!” CONGRATULATIONS to the motorcyclists’ lobbying team representing a coalition led by ABATE of Arizona, the Modified Motorcycle Association (MMA) of Arizona and the Arizona Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs (ACMC). NOW HEAR THIS! A flurry of scientific and medical studies lately have identified an inordinate amount of hearing loss in motorcyclists, due not to “loud pipes” but rather to air rushing past our ears at deafening intensities at highway speeds. After accelerating, most of the sound that a rider hears isn’t engine noise, it is wind noise, and audiologists admit that even helmets do not provide much protection against hearing loss caused by wind buffeting in and around a helmet. Indeed, acoustical engineers say that audible wind noise inside a helmet can reach rock-concert levels as high as 115 decibels, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health warns that exposure to noise at 100 decibels is safe for only 15 minutes and permanent hearing loss can result from prolonged exposure -- so motorcycle riders in particular should pay attention to the warning signs: a ringing sound in the ears immediately after exposure, and hearing voices and other sounds as muffled. Noise-induced hearing loss isn’t reversible, but it is preventable. While even the most expensive helmet won’t provide significant protection against noise, an inexpensive pair of foam earplugs, readily available at drug stores, can reduce sound levels by 20 to 25 decibels. However, this simple solution may also be illegal. Even though riders have come to recognize that noise can be a serious health issue, many U.S. jurisdictions prohibit the use of earplugs, and one long road trip could take a rider through numerous changes in state and local laws. Just ask Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) Attorney Ralph C. Buss whose client, a truck driver from Michigan, was pulled over while riding his motorcycle in Ohio and given a ticket for wearing protective ear plugs! The rider contacted ABATE of Ohio seeking assistance, and while ABATE looks into modifying the existing law to make allowances for motorcyclists to wear ear protection, they referred the motorcyclist to attorney Buss regarding the citation, which is a moving violation that in addition to a fine carries a 2 point penalty that could put his CDL and livelihood in jeopardy if he’s found guilty. Although some states like California have changed their laws to allow riders to use hearing protectors, and Maryland allows custom-made earplugs only, most passed such laws years ago to thwart the use of stereo headphones while driving. The codes do not distinguish between earphones and earplugs; one being used for audio equipment and the other used for hearing protection -- so without case law to establish legislative intent, obsolete laws like Ohio’s need to be rectified, which according to Buss “is

exactly why motorcyclists need organizations like ABATE to not only watchdog the legislature, working to pass pro-motorcycle laws and prevent anti-bike bills from passing, but also to clean-up old laws that need to take into consideration both motorcycles and motorcyclists.” GEORGIA RIDES TOLL FREE HOT lanes are replacing the HOV lanes on some interstates in Georgia starting with I-85, and will require a toll for their use by all vehicles except those which are exempt. Fortunately, just as motorcycles are able to use the existing HOV high occupancy lanes, they will be also permitted in the HOT lanes toll-free as exempt vehicles, but will need a Peach Pass device. Peach Pass devices are available from Georgia’s State Road & Tollway Authority at 1-855-PCH-PASS (724-7277), or you can find more information atwww.peachpass.com. CALIFORNIA RESTRICTS PICKETING AT FUNERALS California Governor Jerry Brown has signed legislation restricting protests at military and other funerals. Senate Bill 661, by Senator Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, prohibits picketing a funeral within 300 feet of a burial or memorial site beginning one hour before a funeral and ending one hour after, having been amended to comply with a 2011 Supreme Court decision regarding protests of military funerals by members of the Westboro Baptist Church, known for its anti-Semitic and anti-gay views. “Since time immemorial, society has respected the dignity and sacredness of putting the dead to rest,” Lieu said in a prepared statement. “This bill recognizes the sanctity of funerals by placing reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions on disruptive protestors.” MOTORCYCLES REMOVED FROM NTSB MOST-WANTED LIST Although the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has called upon states and the federal government to pass motorcycle helmet laws for all riders, this year’s annual “Top Ten Most Wanted List” of the agency’s most important safety priorities no longer lists any motorcycle safety concerns. After making the hit list the past three years, which are recommendations to government bodies that are often put into place through further laws and regulations, NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman indicated that “Safety areas are dropped from the list when meaningful progress has been made.” COULD YOUR NEXT BIKE TALK…TO CARS? Could your future Honda motorcycle converse with the car coming out of the side street up ahead to alert the driver that you’re approaching? Well, only if they are each fitted with technology that can communicate with similarly-equipped vehicles to keep each other out of harm’s way, according to the picture Honda painted at the 19th World ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) Congress, held in Vienna in October. THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

The “Motorcycle Approaching Indication” application is a connectivity system that warns both driver and rider when it detects that there is an obscured vehicle potentially approaching their direction of travel. Honda first proposed such a system in 1999, and demoed a version in 2008 on a Gold Wing. It has since refined ITS for more compact bikes, and so far warning systems for the two most common types of car-bike collisions - T-boning and being cut off by a car turning left - have been demoed successfully. ITS could potentially also communicate with roadside infrastructure, warning of hazards in the road. WEIRD NEWS: BIKE THIEVES CRASH INTO ONE ANOTHER Two heads aren’t always better than one, as TWO bike thieves have landed up in the hospital after crashing their stolen motorcycles - into each other. The bungling bikers collided and crashed on a roundabout in Sussex, England, after the two stolen bikes were seen being ridden at high speed together shortly before the collision. DON’T SMILE FOR THE CAMERA New Jersey residents may not have much to smile about in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, but that’ll make it easier to comply with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s ban on smiling for driver’s license photos. That’s because, according to the National Motorists Association (NMA), drivers showing off their pearly whites apparently confuses the new facial recognition software New Jersey launched earlier this year. The stated aim of the system is to prevent people from acquiring driver’s licenses under alternate identities by comparing photographs in the database. New Jersey is not alone in its integration of facial recognition into the driver’s licensing process. According to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, most states use some form of driver’s license facial recognition. Welcome to the world of biometrics -- the use of unique physical or behavioral characteristics to verify an individual’s identity, and as surveillance cameras become ubiquitous and capable of recording finer detail, tracking of individuals (whether they’re in their cars, or not) will become easier and easier. In the wake of 9/11, policymakers called for stronger national standards to verify the identity of driver’s license applicants. This led to the Real ID Act of 2005 which established requirements for a national identification system based on the driver’s license. Among the 18 benchmarks the states must comply with is the implementation of facial recognition.

Despite being enacted seven years ago, Real ID has not been fully implemented. Many states, citing a range of privacy and budget concerns, have rejected the act through statute or legislative resolution, or have simply refused to comply. t’s hard to believe that the tragic accident that happened on a back road in Carroll County Maryland in 2002 would touch so many people. Steve Toop was headed home after spending the day riding with friends to Washington, DC to The Wall for the Memorial Day celebration. Steve lost his life as a result of collision that happened only miles from his home. He left a wife and young son to carry on without him. Toop’s Troops was started in memory of Steve. It started out as a group of friends who joined together to ride in his honor. They know how much Steve loved to ride and they wanted to keep his memory alive. The group decided to hold a pig roast to raise money to support the family. As the group grew and they realized how they could help others, they joined The Community Foundation of Carroll County and established themselves as a non-profit organization. They set up scholarships for students from Francis Scott Key and Westminster High Schools. Ten years later they are still having a pig roast every year and it continues to grow in size. They also have several Chicken Dinners each year as fundraisers. The group has seen a lot of changes. The membership has grown, the amount of money raised has grown and as a direct result, the number of people and families that they help has grown. They have donated money to families facing many types

of hardships. Some people may be facing a temporary situation such as the loss of a job or damage to a home due to fire. But many situations are long term such as an illness or accident and of course when a child is involved it touches their hearts even more. At Christmas time they choose several area families to adopt. The group goes shopping, wraps all of the gifts and delivers them with Santa Claus on a motorcycle. They always seem to draw a crowd of onlookers when the roll into a development in December on motorcycles. They are led by a 10 member Board of Officers that is elected yearly. The group makes decisions by voting at monthly meetings. They are an organized group of motorcycle enthusiasts that want to make a difference in the life of someone who needs a helping hand. Toop’s Troops is selling chances to win a 2013 Victory Vegas 8-Ball or $10,000 cash. The drawing will be held on December 31st at 3:00Pm at the Barnes Motor World Open House. If you have any questions about the motorcycle please contact Matt at Barnes Motor World 410-857-7999. Tickets are just $10.00 each and there are only 2,000 tickets being sold. All of the proceeds will go to help local people who are facing a difficult situation. To purchase a ticket you can contact their President, David Greene, Sr. at 410-775-7940, Vice-President, Matt Phelps at 443-605-4155 or any Toop’s Troops member. Submitted by Charline R. The Thunder Roads Magazine APP A MUST for all bikers

I

By Hillbilly

n this new world of technology, an old school biker could get lost. Thank goodness Thunder Roads Magazine has an App for that! It will help even the technologically challenged, like me Hillbilly, enter the next century of technology. The best part is it’s FREE. I know that›s hard to believe, but yes, it’s FREE! Once you download this App, I doubt you will go on any rides or trips without it. Our vendors and sponsors will love it as well because you will be able to find them with the push of a button. From the first day I learned about the App, and every day since, I still can›t believe how easy it is to use and how much information is in my phone under one little button. The first thing you need to do is download the app from your particular App store on your phone. Click on search and type in Thunder roads magazine. Download and install the app on your phone. When you first open the App give it a couple of seconds to find you and what state you are in. That›s right I said it will find you! Maryland edition will pop-up for everyone in MD, Delaware, and D.C. We are the same App for all three and the listings will come up for all three. When you hit the events/calendar part, a listing will come up letting you know all the rides and events that are coming up and where you can go for more info. If you are looking for a place to eat, hit advertisers and then hit bars/restaurants. You’ll see our advertisers and the specials they are running. You can also find apparel, and other business services that are biker friendly. If you hit the map button, it will show you where you are at that time and show you where you need to go to find the business or event you are looking for. You can also visit their website or call them from the App. If your memory is not as good as it used to be, like mine, you can set a reminder about the event or advertiser you want to visit. Sounds too good to be true doesn›t it? Now if you go to another state that has Thunder Roads Magazine, the app will automatically switch to that state and you can browse their events and advertisers. Please remember to shop with all the Thunder Roads advertisers; without them we don›t have a magazine. We now have Thunder Roads Magazines in 21 different states and we are working to get all of them. As with all new technology, there have been some glitches with the app and sometimes you have to manually switch to the state. We are working everyday to fix these minor issues. If you find yourself having any problems with the app please don›t hesitate to call Hillbilly at 443875-7887 and I will do my best to have your problem resolved. Soon the app is going to be your number one source when you’re on the road. It will help you find events, places to shop, and eat, that caters to bikers and who would LOVE to have you stop by. Don›t wait DOWNLOAD it TODAY!

K.I.S.S. page composed & edited by: Toni McCoy Shearon aka “MaMa Thunder” of Thunder Roads Tennessee

CHRISTMAS SIDE DISH: BACON & 5 CHEESE MASHED CAULIFLOWER 3 Bags of Frozen Cauliflower; (try to get Florets Only If Grocery Has) 1- Cup Parmesan Cheese (off the block kind, not the powdered kind) 1 Cup Shredded Colby-Monterey Jack Cheese 1 Cup Feta Cheese 1 Cup Cheddar or Swiss Cheese (your preference) 1 Cup Gouda Cheese, American or Velveta (your preference) Salt & Pepper to Taste 1 Pound of Hickory Smoked Bacon; cooked crisp & rough chopped 1 level tsp. of Ground Nutmeg 1 level tsp. of Garlic Powder 1/2 stick of butter 1 Cup of Panko (Japanese bread crumbs) 1/2 tsp. of steak rub or seasoning Cook cauliflower to package directions in micowave. Put out onto paper towels to absorb liquid. Then put all in a large mixing bowl; add all the ingredients except the bacon and mash them down until you have the consistency you want; chunky or smooth. Then place in pre-greased 13 x 9 baking dish, spread out evenly and top evenly with Panko. Your cauliflower is already cooked so you’re essentially just getting the cheese melted down, hot & blended. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, remove, sprinkle entire top with chopped bacon bits. This is so delicious and so different, you’ll love it! CHRISTMAS ELVES MUSHROOM LOVER’S DELIGHT 1 Large Skillet 1 Package-Box of Pre-Sliced White Mushrooms 1 Package-Box of Pre-Sliced Portobello Mushrooms 1 Equivolent to Package-Box of Shitake Mushrooms; Remove Stems Saute in Olive Oil one mushroom type at a time. Do not crowd the pan or all you’ll get is a panful of water-downed, droopy shrooms. But after you’ve sauteed one style down, remove and place in a THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

serving dish. Once all mushrooms have been sauteed, add 2 Tbls. each of Basil, Oregano, Rosemary. & Balsamic Vinegar. Salt & Pepper to taste and gently mix them all together. If you love mushrooms like I do, this is your shroom dream come true. Delicioso’ THE PERFECT PRESENT...A CINNAMON & SUGAR DUSTED LEMON-APPLE BUNDT CAKE W/ EXTRA DRIZZLED ORANGE ICING 1 Pkg. of Premium Lemon Cake Mix 3 Tbls. of Sugar or Splenda 3 Tbls. of Cinnamon 3 Tbls. of Orange Peel Seasoning 1/2 Cup of Orange Juice (no pulp) 1 Can of Your Favorite Apple Pie Filling Brand (I prefer Lucky Leaf, but it’s your choice) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Take your Bundt cake pan and grease w/ spray butter. Mix your sugar, cinnamon and orange peel in a small bowl and roll your Bundt pan on its’ side as you sprinkle in your mixture. Be sure and coat all sides and bottom as good as possible. Make up another batch for when you remove from oven. Make your cake as instructed, but add in the 1/2 cup of orange juice and the whole can of sliced apples and blend gently, all together. Pour mix into Bundt cake pan and bake for 55 mins. Do the toothpick test and insert toothpick directly in center of cake and if it comes our clean, it’s done. Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes while you whip up Orange Drizzle: In a medium bowl beat up 2 cups of powdered sugar and 4 Tbls. of orange juice. Beat up until you reach a “drizzle” consistency, not too stiff, not too runny. Invert your bundt cake onto a beautiful serving cake platter and while it’s still hot, drizzle the icing all over it. Let it dry for say 30 seconds and then do a 2nd drizzling. This is phenomenal with premium quality homemade style pure vanilla ice-cream. Perfection! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO OUR BIKER FRIENDS & FAMILIES. WE SEND GOOD CHEER, LOVE & JOY, TO ONE AND ALL.

SOP Creed

“We live and ride because of our freedom, in honor of Veterans of this country.” contributing to our donation to the Foxwell Scholarship Fund. Last year, SOP made its first trip to Rolling Thunder as a group, and looks forward to making it an annual event.

In spring of 2008, a group of brothers wanted to do more than just talk about their love of our country and those who served it. Another thing that they had in common was their love of bikes and the freedom to ride them. On July 4 of that year, the Sons of Patriots HCES was born. The club is made up of veterans, active duty soldiers, and others that honor and appreciate the sacrifices that our military has made and continues to make for us.

One event that SOP enjoys attending and supporting is the Wounded Warrior Project and Weekend. For the past two years, SOP has been asked to participate in the Wounded Warrior Weekend held at the Salisbury American Legion Post 64.

In the past four years, SOP has held and supported many events and rides to support local causes. These include events to benefit The Home of the Brave in 2009 and 2011, The Foxwell Scholarship fundraiser in both 2010 and 2011, and Wreathes Across American for our local Veteran’s cemetery in Hurlock, MD in both 2011 and 2012. SOP has taken an active role in the first two annual Jeff Daisey memorial rides that raised and donated money to the Home of the Brave and Wreathes Across America. SOP partnered with the Eddie Sinclair Ride for Life in both 2010 and 2011, benefiting the Home of the Brave and THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

SOP is also active in the community and Adopt a Highway, sponsoring a piece of road along Route 354. SOP also supports The American Cancer Society through Relay for Life, and the United Way of Wicomico County. SOP is proud to have Lady Riders and appreciates the role they play in all of our events. SOP supports all local clubs and enjoys their friendship and the biker brotherhood we all share. Visit our web site at www.sonsofpatroits.net or E-mail us at sonsofpatriots@yahoo.com. DECEMBER 2012

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. ‘Good morning,’ said the young man. ‘If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners. ‘’Go away!’’ said the old lady. ‘’I’m broke and haven’t got anymoney!’’ and she proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open...’’Don’t be too hasty!’’ he said. ‘’Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.’’ And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet. “Now if this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainders.” The old lady stepped back and said, “Well, dumbass, let me get you a fork, ‘cause they cut off my electricity this very morning. A biker goes into a cantina in a small Mexican village, throws his dusty saddlebags up on the bar and says, “Amigo, three shots of tequila.” The bartender puts three shots of tequila on the bar, and as fast as he can pour them, the biker drinks ‘em down, fast. “Barkeep, three more shots.” “Senor” says the bartender, “be careful not to get drunk and pass out or Pancho will put you in his wheel barrel; take you out back and have “his way” with you.” As the biker looks over at this little ole’, one eyed, toothless Mexican man sitting at a table, with a wheel barrel beside him against the wall, “Hey!, I said three more shots of tequila.” Again, the bartender pours three more shots of tequila and again as fast as he can pour them, the biker drinks ‘em down. About two hours later the biker wakes up in a wheel barrel being pushed by Pancho, “Hey, where the hell do you think you’re taking me?” “Senor” says Pancho, “I am not taking you anywhere... I am bringing you back!!! Two Kentucky good ole’ boys are sitting on the front porch. One says, “Did you know that elks have sex 10 to 15 times a night?” “Gid-dangit”, says his friend, “and I just joined the friggin’ Lions Club!” 32

End of Year Thoughts……… * I think part of a best friend’s job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die. * Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong. * I totally take back all those times I put up a fight about taking a nap when I was younger. * There is great need for sarcasm fonts; the “finger”, the “mooning”, the “bite me”, the “suck this”......... * How the hell is anyone besides Martha Stewart supposed to know how to fold a damn fitted sheet? * Map Quest really needs to start their directions on prompt # 5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my own neighborhood. Also.....an Avoid This Neighborhood prompt would be greatly appreciated. * Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person actually died, right? * Why is it that bad decisions always make for really good stories? * You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you just know that you aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day. * Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don’t want to have to restart my collection... yet again. * I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call. * I totally disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Budweiser than Kay. * I have a very hard time deciphering that fine line between boredom and real hunger. * How many times is it appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear, understand or really give a damn, about a word they said? * I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters....unite! * Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets stank. Jeans? Jeans seldom get dirty, and you can wear them all week. * Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket or finding their cell phone, but I’d bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 2 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time! * Why is it the older you get, the more the movie “The Borrowers”, about how little gremlins take or move your “stuff” around, truly makes so much sense? * The first testicular guard, the “Cup,” was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important to protect. HAPPY HOLIDAYS BIKERS......Ho! Ho! Ho!
