Trials.... The Ultimate Compliment I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like life is just one long string of trials and troubles! I sometimes want to sing the song “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve seen”. You and I have faced more trials than we can remember that we thought ,” this is the one that’s going to take me out”! Have you ever considered going through trial after trial to be a compliment? I had never thought of it this way until I considered the story of Job. The following Bible passage in particular stuck out to me. Satan Attacks Job’s Character 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” 8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” Job 1:6-8 New King James Version (NKJV) Tempting Job and giving him problems was probably the
furthest thing from Satan’s mind, until God nominated Job. Why? Why would God nominate Job for the job of losing all his oxen, donkeys, sheep, and camels? Why would God nominate Job for a job in which he would receive painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head? Why would God nominate Job for a job whose description included burying all of his sons and daughters? Why? Because, Job could take it. 1Corinthians says; 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 New King James Version (NKJV) God allowed Satan to take Job’s possessions, servants, sons, and daughters because he knew Job could bear it. It was the ultimate compliment. God knew the kind of faith warrior Job was. He told Satan to hit him with his best shot. Satan still lost Job’s story has comforted, inspired, and encouraged countless hundreds of thousands of Christians going through trials. Maybe God is using you and the way you’re handling trials you’re going through to comfort, inspire, and encourage others. In a strange way, it’s the ultimate compliment.

BLESSING OF THE BIKERS Rushing Wind M/M had the first Blessing of The Bikers back in 2010. I had been a part of a number of Blessing of The Bikes for a few years and always came away feeling unfulfilled and dissatisfied with the message that it sent. They all focused on the Music, food and beer and at the end gave the preachers a couple of minutes to do their thing. I felt the ones that needed the blessings were the Bikers not the bikes. I also felt that the bikers needed to know how much they were loved and how much The Lord loved them in spite of how unworthy they felt they were! In April of 2009 I felt that the Lord would have Rushing Wind M/M to have an annual Blessing of The Bikers in a more spiritual setting. The Lord laid it on my heart to have it before any other blessing every year on the First Sunday of April . There is no alcohol at our Blessings and our desire is entirely directed to all the bikers that not only come to the blessing but all over the world. The Blessing of The Bikers is growing every year. I am believing it will be one of the major Blessing in Southern Maryland in years to come. Gordon “Preacher Bacon Rushing Wind M/M Facebook; RushingWind MotorcycleMinistry

MAIDEN’S CHOICE MC W
hen you think of a motorcycle club, you think of big burley biker looking men perched upon big Harley Davidson’s, wearing their leather jackets. This has been the tradition and stereotype for so many years beginning with the early part of the century. Service men returning home from the war began to start motorcycle clubs to occupy their time. During those early years woman were still held back and only until recently, the idea of woman on motorcycles has become reality. From the 1960’s forward woman have been making their mark in the modern day world and motorcycles are certainly no different. Woman today can perform any job of their desire or live any life style that they choose. Choices a person makes can be based upon many things: however, gender is not one. Being a woman is not any reason not to do or be exactly what they want. If they have a desire to ride, then they have a choice, “Maiden’s Choice”. In 2011, woman was introduced to a new choice that they could make in the motorcycle community. The choice of an all new ladies motorcycle club came alive with the birth of Maiden’s Choice WMC. A small group of woman made their intension very loud and clear when the club opened in October. These woman who had banned together to form a very important bond of sisterhood and camaraderie took to the streets. New colors were on the road to success. With bright blue, white and purple colors on their backs, the club began to attract woman of all ages and backgrounds. The center patch of any motorcycle club holds a tremendous value to that club and their members. This was not different for the ladies of Maiden’s Choice WMC. The Valkeryie, a lady warrior became the center patch of the club. Dating back into history to a time when battles took place amongst armies of men, Valkeryies would fly over the fields of the dead and carry the dead warriors off of the field. The term “Chooser of the Slain”, was coined. The Valkeryie projected an image of strength, honor and freedom. This is exactly what the ladies of Maidens Choice were looking for. The club allows any brand and style of motorcycle or trike into the club as long as it meets the 250 CC’s or higher requirement. “Blaze”, the Founder and President of the club, whom rides a
8
Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, said, “We have a few new lady riders in our family and it may take a while for them to get the feel for a bigger bike, but they are one of us.” The club also offers an Auxiliary membership program for woman who does not ride, but may hold an interest or desire to learn. The Auxiliary member may too just have that special interest in the motorcycle lifestyle; Maiden’s Choice makes a place for that lady. A junior membership program also exists where the girls of the members may participate in all of the events given alcohol does not play a role. The motto for the junior members is “future president in the making.” Like many other clubs, the women do have to complete a prospecting period where they have to earn their way into the club. The term is “earning their colors” said “Rebel”, whom steers the prospects in the right direction. The prospects become part of our family and they too can share all of the activities and rewards of being a Maiden in the making. The clubs motto is “Maiden’s Eternally, Eternally Maidens” or “MEEM”. Some of the woman who began the club had previous motorcycle club knowledge and experience in club life. These women were given the title as the “First Ladies” of the club. These women are the founding team and knew exactly how to get this club off of the ground. With planning, hard work, dedication and a sisterhood in place, the club would grow strong very quickly: however, not every woman is always a good fit. Maiden’s Choice WMC looks for special qualities in their members. Strong, independent woman, with a sense of Integrity about herself, is what the club is looking for. They are “LADY” bikers who appreciate woman with upstanding reputations, friendly personalities and positive attitudes. The club often works very closely with local communities and charities making their home in and around the Baltimore region. Again for 2013, the Casey Cares Foundation is the charity that the ladies will be working with for the entire year. Last year the club presented Casey Cares Foundation a donation of $2000.00. This money was raised by holding several fundraiser nights at Dairy Queen, selling flowers, pretzels, soliciting the crowd at Essex Day, and several personal donations by friends of the club. They presented the money to the foundation with a sense of pride and reward. The ladies love to help these children and their families and certainly
MARCH 2013
THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
pull together as a team to do their very best. Again this year the club is hoping to present a nice donation to the foundation. Besides working with the charity, the club does many activities throughout the year. Riding motorcycles is the ladies first passion, but they absolutely keep very busy throughout the remainder of the year. Bus trips that are open to the public may take you to Atlantic City or New York City for the Christmas holiday. “Shotgun”, the Co-Found and Vice President of the club has been very instrumental in planning the clubs bus trips and fundraising efforts. They also have club parties where family and friends may join in. The club takes time to visit the Timonium Bike Show, the Free State Gun Range, and has a pizza party at Pizza Johns, only to name a few. The club firmly believes if they give support and respect to other clubs, it should definitely be returned. They attend many of the area clubs functions including: bull roast, benefits, poker runs and parties. Just spending time together as a family is the belief of the club and is important to quality and growth of Maiden’s Choice WMC. “We are a family; we are a life style” said one of the ladies in the club. Each family has not only a house, but a home. Maiden’s
THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
Choice WMC achieved their goal of a home in October of 2012, only one year after the club opened. The club has a cute little abode decorated in the club colors complete with a living room where the Maiden’s can lounge and spend quality time together. “Trip”, one of the officers in the club said, “I can’t believe it, we have a club house” with excitement in her voice the very first time she visited their new home. “Pepper”, whom is also one of the “First Ladies” and an officer in the club, too was delighted to see the clubhouse. The club not only meets at their clubhouse, but also meets at the Grab a Crab restaurant in Essex every so often to offer new ladies an opportunity to come in and meet the ladies of Maiden’s Choice. The new comer may then decide if she wishes to pursue prospecting for the club to make it her own. Being easy to find has been a positive factor in the success of the clubs growth. The clubs Activities Director,” Gypsy” displayed her poetic talent and wrote the club a poem. It may be found on the very first page of the clubs website. It truly gives the meaning of Maiden’s Choice WMC. For the members not mentioned personally by their name in this article, you may visit the clubs website at www.maidenschoicewmc. com to see their profile.

LEPRECHAUN’S SECRET STEW 1 Pkg. of Kielbasa (comes with 2 long pieces per pack, like a left & right that forms a big O) 2 Pkgs. of New Orleans Flavor Sausage Links (these are all in the “sausage section” of your grocery’s Meat Dept. 1 Bag of Very Small Red Potatoes 1 Bag of Petite Carrots; pre-peeled, in veggie dept. 1 Can of Kernel Corn 1 Large Head of Cabbage Salt & Pepper to Taste 2 Boxes or Cans of Chicken Stock - unsalted kind 1 Cups of Water 1 Bottle of Dark Beer (if all you have is light, o.k.) 4 Chicken Bullion Cubes (place in small cup of hot water to dissolve down) 1 Tbls. of pre-minced Garlic (in veggie dept.) 1 Small Palmful of Basil 1 Small Palmful of Parsley
1 Tsp. of Chili Flakes (add more if you prefer spicier) In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a large pat of margarine to pan, and chop up your Kielbasa into 1/4 inch pieces. Cut up the Louisiana flavored sausages the same way and fry up with Kielbasa. In a separate Stew Pot, add your chicken stock and water and bullion cube mixture on medium-low. You want a slow bubbling boil. Chop up your cabbage into long strips and take the time to peel apart the layers. Once you put the stew pot lid on, the cabbage will wilt down fast. Either cut your baby carrots into halves or leave them whole; your choice. Add garlic and all spices and corn to the broth. Once your sausages are browned good on all sides, add to the broth. cut your red potatoes in half and add to the broth. Put a lid on this and just let it go for apprx. an hour and half. If you do in a Crock Pot then cook on low for as long as it takes for potatoes and carrots to be soft. While it’s cooking; throw in a couple Tbls. of quality margarine or butter; your preference. Don’t forget your chili flakes as you want this spicy, but not hot. There’s a big difference in taste between the two. Serve this up with some really rustic, crusty bread that has been smeared with butter and garlic powder and broiled off in the oven. This is total comfort food and it literally takes like 15 minutes to get it all going and in the stew or crock pot. It’ll have ya’ doing the Irish Jig right in your own kitchen!
BEER & BACON MAC N’ CHEESE 1 Box of Large Elbow Macaroni; cooked 5 mins. short or being soft as has to finish cooking in oven. 1 Whole Pkg. of Bacon cooked up; place on rack over sheet pan & cook in oven @ 425 until crispy, dark golden brown. No splatter mess on stove. Easy! 1 Tbls. of Minced Garlic 1/2 Cup of Heavy Whipping Cream 3 Cups of Shredded White Cheddar Cheese 1 Cup of Shredded Parmessan Cheese 1 Lg. Tub of Whipped Philly Cream Cheese 1 Lg. Vidalia Onion; large chop; sauteed golden 1 Tbls. of Spicy Brown Mustard 1 Bottle of Amber or Dark Beer Mix all together (except bacon) in your deep baking dish until well blended. Cook at 400 degrees or until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and put in your crisp bacon, leave plenty to sprinkle over top. Serve this immediately piping hot before bacon can turn limp. This is phenomenal twist on old style. EASTER SUNDAY BANANA’S FOSTER Don’t let the name of this scare you off. Like all of the K.I.S.S. recipes, this is simple & easy. You can do it. 1/2 Stick of Real Butter 1/2 tsp. of Brown Sugar 1/4 Cup of Banana Liqueur (buy a small, travel size at liquor store) 4 Bananas; cut in half lengthwise; then halved 1/4 Cup of Dark Rum 4 Scoops of Premium Vanilla Ice Cream Combine butter, brown sugar & cinnamon in a medium size non-stick skillet. Cook on low until all ingredients are dissolved. Stir in the banana liqueur, then place the bananas in the pan. When the banana sections soten up and begin to brown, carefully add the rum to the middle of the skillet. Cook until rum is hot, then gently tip the pan slightly to ignite the rum. Don’t let this scare you.....this is just the alcohol in the rum burning off. When flame is completely gone, lift the bananas out of pan and place four pieces over 2 scoops of ice cream in shallow bowls. Generously spoon warm sauce over the top of ice cream and serve up nice and hot. This is such an easy dish to make and if you have company over it’s very dramatic when the rum is ignited and everyone goes.....oooooohhhhhhh! Once you do this recipe and see how easy it is, it’ll be one of your favorite show-stoppers. Delicicious too!

Steve is a 3 year old Pit mix who loves everyone! He is such a social butterfly when you walk him around the shelter he wants to stop and say hello to every person he passes. We picked Steve up from a PG County Animal shelter where his breed is illegal and if no rescue or shelter comes for these animals they are put to sleep. What a travesty that would have been! Steve is a happy go lucky little man who is well behaved and likes everyone he meets, although he does like to chase cats, he will make a great family dog. Walker (Texas Ranger as we like to call him) is a 7 month old Pit Bull mix who came into our shelter last month when he ran out of time at another rescue. Walker is such a ham! He makes the funniest little faces at people through the cage and has a ton of personality to spare. Walker would be considered a high energy dog by most and would do very well in a house where he could run and play in a fenced in yard or go on several long walks or runs. We have been working on his manners and obedience at the shelter and he is picking up his training very well.
Sheba is a one year old Plott Hound mix. Many people who come in to see her think she is a male because she has very intense yellow eyes so staff will often dress her up with a pink bandanna or sweater so people will know how feminine she is! Sheba is a very nice young dog who has lived with both children and other animals. She would fit into anyone’s home and should be able to adjust quickly due to the fact she is very outgoing and loves attention. Sheba is also fully housebroken and walks well on a leash. Diamond is a 7 month old Husky mix who came into the shelter due to the fact that her previous owner worked too much and felt she needed more attention. Diamond is a very high energy dog who loves to jump around and play. We are working on breaking her habit of jumping up on people. She started this habit to get people attention because she was so happy to see new people, however, it’s not going to be a fun habit when she reaches her grown weight. Diamond is a great dog but would do best in a home with no cats seeing as how she loves to chase them.
Stop by our shelter to visit the animals shown or the many others up for adoption! o you think Ralph Macchio knew that Karate Kid would pretty much ruin his acting career? I mean don’t get me wrong Karate Kid was one of the greatest movies ever, even part two was pretty good. Honestly I don’t remember what Karate kid 3 was about, I think it had a girl in it or something. But what has he done since then? Ok, ok, ok he also did that Crossroads movie but nobody remembers Ralph Macchio as the dude that was in that sweet blues movie. He is forever going to be the Karate Kid. Everywhere he goes, some dickhead is like “hey Daniel son, wax on wax off” And Ralph is all like “F*#k you dude, that was like 1984! I’m 51 years old. And I was the kid that got burned up in the outsiders!!” That’s a pretty heavy load to bear, cause I mean he’s only getting older and some college kid will always be there to make that same comment over and over and over. I’m sure when Daniel son was sitting at the contract table for Columbia pictures he was super stoked, talking to his mom about how this is really gonna change his life and make his acting career take off like a crane kick to the cock sucker! But little did he know, he didn’t have a little old Japanese man there to warn him about the possible curse of being forever known as the wimp turned hero Daniel LaRusso. Granted there’s always gonna be some weirdo chick that wants to bang him because he’s the Karate Kid, so I guess it’s not all bad. They probably paid him to be in those three movies also. Unless they paid him karate lessons, which would be kind of awesome considering he kicked that blonde kids ass. That kid was good! Tim Wise www.lowsidesyn.com Ridetorot.blogspot.com

andom Impact really likes to have a good time and it shows. The band is a Southern Maryland based classic and contemporary rock trio that is taking the mid-Atlantic area by storm. Covering a wide variety of power trio rock with a high energy take no prisoners style, Random Impact leaves their audiences wanting more. Their passion for the music and having a good time is what drives these guys on a nightly basis. Simply put, this is what they love to do for fun, rocking the house. Well that and riding Harley’s. (Curtis has a garage full.) Curtis Johnson on bass and Danny Fazenbaker on drums have been friends and musical partners for thirty years, and have been performing together with different configurations of Random Impact since 2004. So the groove is always very tight. Now together for the last two years with Bruce Packett on guitar and vocals, the band has evolved into the areas hottest power trio. On any given night they will cover everything from Led Zep and Hendrix to the Allman Brothers and SRV so if you ask they may take a request or two. They practice on a regular basis; constantly working up new material just to keep things interesting. I’ve seen this band a dozen times over
18
the last year and the set list is always different and they are always entertaining. Highlights of the bands performances include shows at Delmarva and Ocean City Bike Week every September with multiple dates already scheduled for 2013 at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, MD and Wild Bill’s in Ocean City! If you are a fan of great classic rock and enjoy dancing or just watching the show, you owe it to yourself to check out one of their performances. Music is a passion for the guys in Random Impact and that passion is evident on stage at every performance. The lightening will rock and the thunder will roll. Don’t miss Random Impact as they roll through the midatlantic music scene in 2013!! Go to www.randomimpact.com or mdparty.com/ randomimpact for the current show schedule or stop by their face book page.. They’d like to hear from you. FACEBOOK/RandomImpactLive Time to rock! R
ecently I found myself embroiled in a heated situation in our Capital. A national Motorcycle Event made its annual trip to our fine city. These shows are typically a great opportunity for local chop shops, tattoo artists and many other motorcycle accessory sellers. This year was almost different. It seems that there was a difference of opinion between the event organizers and a club with a national membership. Don’t jump to conclusions, because you’d be surprised as to whom this club is, or what they claim to be. Anyways, this difference of opinion, and the alleged actions of some created a situation where as a policy was instituted to Ban the wearing of all Club Logos from the event. I’m not just talking about MC’s or just anything motorcycle related either. It included any organization logo (except fictional), to include Military Social Clubs, Pastoral Clubs, Racing Clubs, Bowling Clubs, hell it would have included your grandma’s bridge club if they had matching shirts! As you can imagine the new policy went viral in about 4 hours after it was released. There were immediate calls for a boycott of the event by any and all members of clubs. Even the Military, Law Enforcement, Firefighter, RC’s as well as many three piece MC’s in the area. Imagine that, bikers from complete opposite social circles banning together in unison for a single cause. Well somehow, as always I got drug into the conversation with the event coordinator. His reasons were valid, and obviously any legal advice is always going to error on the side of caution to protect its client’s interests. I get it. But still it just felt wrong that due to the alleged actions of one, all would suffer for it. I hate that type of reasoning. It’s a chicken @$#! way of doing things. If someone screws up and acts a fool, you make them own it. You don’t make everyone else own it. Now I won’t go into details of what I was told as this is an active case, but I do know what I’ve have heard and read with my own eyes. When an organization stands up for its rights I am fully with that. But when an organization is an instigator, then brags about it online in Blog Forums, and then cries the victim, I have zero
26
respect for that. They do not belong in my world, and I do not recognize them as such. In the end I will give huge props to the man behind the curtain, the event organizer. He took the full backlash from a ton of Clubbers in this city, and never gave up the fight for us. In the end, Club Colors were allowed and everybody won. Well, except the one club in questions as their colors were still barred from the event. I guess it still amazes me that in this day and age there’s still such fear of everything motorcycle related by the general community. I mean the thought process that just because we allow or don’t allow someone to wear a logo, we are either safe or not safe. I understand that if nobody knows who’s on which team, it’s less likely that idiots will fight each other putting innocent attendees at risk. But in this case that wasn’t even the factor in banning Colors. There wasn’t a fear of violence; it was simply to avoid adding fuel to an already active lawsuit. There were hundreds of murders and violent crimes in this city last year, and I don’t recall one being reported to have been committed by a member of any type of club. Not one. I’m happy to report that Common Sense and Freedom Won out.... this time.

2008 Street Glide~Capone theme owner
by
Doug Mitchel
The names HarleyDavidson and Al Capone are fairly significant although there were no known ties between the two when Mr. Capone was making a name for himself in the ‘20s. He was actually born 4 years prior to HarleyDavidson started building motorcycles and to say the least they traveled in different circles. History shows us that one became a famous brand while the other is deeply rooted in infamy. 28
Paulie Caparelli
When Paulie Caparelli approached John Dodson at Johnny Legend Customs about building a new ride he went in with plans for an all-black ensemble. After discussions combining their creativity both agreed that some graphics would add some dash to the scheme. More exchanges of ideas were achieved before selecting the Al Capone theme for use. With the finish and graphics agreed to they set out to assemble the running gear and related hardware. Starting with a 2008 Street Glide the cycle was torn down and fresh parts were ordered to achieve a truly custom build. The sheet metal was sent to Psychotic Air in Batavia so Mark Daniels could work his magic given only the name Al Capone for inspiration. The rest was at his disposal. The resulting finish is high in detail and the Sherwin Williams gloss black paint gleams in its flawless execution. A portrait of Sr. Capone graces one side of the tank and additional MARCH 2013
artwork in the same vein can be found all around the finished craft. While Psychotic Air was applying the paint the rest of the build moved ahead. The motor retained its factory 96” displacement but was given a host of upgrades to enhance performance. Taking oxygen into the fuel injection system is achieved via the Performance Machine air cleaner and spent fumes are carried by a Klock Werks Reverse Flow exhaust. The rotating machine gun exhaust tips are items found in the Tail Gunner product line and make an appropriate addition to the gangster theme. I suppose a Thompson submachinegun may have been more appropriate but wouldn’t rotate in time with the RPM of the motor. Today’s modern baggers typically roll on larger wheels and this build is no exception. A 23” hoop is teamed with an 18” at the rear and both hail from S.M.T. Plans to change the front wheel to a 26” unit THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
are in the works. Before Psychotic air got a chance to add the paint the front fairing had to be modified to allow for the added rake in the front forks. If not altered the headlight would point to the stars and not to the road ahead. Moving the assembly 2” forward provided the clearance needed for proper fitment and aiming of the beam. The saddle is from LePera and has been reupholstered in stingray and ostrich by Ed’s Auto Trim in Villa Park. Form and function in one great looking seat. When the painted parts returned to JLC the assembly could be completed. Joining the freshly finished bits were a set of floor boards from Chicago Bagger, foot controls by Battistini and a crash bar from Sinister Industries.
3 months were needed to create and finish this custom bagger but the owner is pleased with the results and I’m sure Al Capone would be as well. Probably not enough space to bootleg liquor but beyond that a terrific build from Johnny Legend Customs and Psychotic Air. THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

Joe Johnson Truck, Car and Bike Show Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM This is a charity event helps Joe Johnson Bible Knowledge Awards given out at graduation each year. It has simple categories and free admission to all. Joe Johnson, who is chaplain for the Home and School Association, voiced his idea for getting more community involvement with the Eastern Shore Junior Academy in 2010. He felt that the school should host a truck, motorcycle and car show in early April to start off the season. In 2011, the first show occurred and Joe was there, working the registration table and opening the show. He had a great time and began making plans for the next year. Almost tragically, Joe fell the next day striking his head and triggering a stroke that nearly took his life. Six months of therapy and recovery found Joe a little weaker but still determined to get the show rolling again. www.facebook.com/JoeJohnsonTCB/info joejohnsonTCB@gmail.com Spring Scrabble Run Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM ABATE of Calvert County Spring Scrabble Run - Sunday, April 7, 2013. News Bytes NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) CONGRESS TO CONSIDER BARRING E15 ETHANOL GAS Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Senate to overturn EPA approval of the sale of E15 gasoline. Calling the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s actions to allow the 15% ethanol blend “irresponsible” and “unfair to consumers,” U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) filed a bill on Valentine’s Day, February 14th that would reverse EPA waivers allowing E15 to be sold to the public for use in most modern cars and light-duty trucks. “Whether you drive a car, truck, boat, or tractor, misfueling with E15 could result in engine failure, increased emissions, and the voiding of warranty coverage,” Vitter said in announcing S. 344. “EPA’s flawed waivers allowing E15 amount to government bureaucrats issuing short-sighted regulations that negatively impact families and businesses across the country,” added Wicker, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. No motorcycles or ATVs are approved to use E15, and manufacturers warn that its use could damage engines and void warranties. In related news, in an effort to prevent consumers from inadvertently misfueling non-approved vehicles with E15, the EPA has announced a new requirement for gas stations that sell E15 to provide a separate E10/E0 pump. Retailers would be required to have a label on pumps that dispense multiple fuel blends of E15-and-higher that reads: “Passenger Vehicles Only. Use in Other Vehicles, Engines and Equipment May Violate Federal Law,” and to post signs that indicate the location of the dedicated E10-or-lower fuel pump. MIC OPPOSES MINIMUM NOISE LEVELS FOR ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES The Motorcycle Industry Council announced its opposition to a proposed rule by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that would require electric motorcycles to emit a minimum sound to protect pedestrians. The MIC recently submitted comments opposing NHTSA’s published Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for FMVSS No. 141, Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, which would set minimum sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles, including but not limited to, motorcycles. Pursuant to the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act in 2010, FMVSS No. 141 is designed to ensure that blind, visually impaired and other pedestrians are able to detect nearby hybrid and electric vehicles in a range of ambient environments. In the MIC’s comments, the motorcycle industry group argued that because of the unique attributes of motorcycles, NHTSA should not need to require a minimum sound for them. The MIC says that motorcycle riders are better able to see and avoid pedestrians because their sight is unobstructed, and motorcyclists are more alert because of their vulnerability. The MIC also stated that electric motorcycles are not quiet, so they shouldn’t need to be subject to minimum sound requirements. The MIC stated further that adding a speaker system to electric motorcycles to emit sounds would be an issue because motorcycles 34
NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)
have less space to add such a system, the weight of the system would have a large effect on the motorcycle’s low-speed stability, energy consumption of the speaker system would have a greater impact on a motorcycle’s range and the price of installing the system would be higher than with automobiles. NHTSA is seeking comments on minimum sound requirements through March 15, and details can be found at www.federalregister.gov. ARIZONA BIKERS LOBBY FOR ANTI-PROFILING BILL A hearing room filled with patch-wearing motorcycle club members broke out in cheers on February 6 as an Arizona Senate public safety committee voted to approve a bill requiring police to take training highlighting a ban on profiling of motorcyclists by law enforcement officers. Senator Judy Burges (R-Sun City) sponsored the anti-profiling bill to address complaints from motorcycle club members who say they’re frequently stopped by police for no legitimate reason. The bill would require the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (known as AzPOST) to include courses emphasizing the prohibition against stopping a biker for riding or wearing club colors, or questioning or searching them based only on those factors. Rick Rodriguez of Glendale, a member of the ALMA Motorcycle Club, said that harassment of patch-wearing bikers by police is rampant. “It’s not illegal to be an Elk, it’s not illegal to be an Eagle, it’s not illegal to be a Shriner, a Knight of Columbus,” he told the Associated Press. “We wear collective marks, we ride motorcycles, that’s what we like to do. I understand the average Joe citizen doesn’t feel our plight. But when they get done with bikers, who are they going to pick on next?” Although the measure passed 4-0, with three Democratic members absent, committee chairman Sen. Chester Crandell cautioned the jubilant crowd that the bill still has a long way to go before it becomes law and needs major changes. TEXAS BIKERS LOBBY FOR CRASH PREVENTION ACT Suits and leather jackets rubbed shoulders in the Capitol’s corridors in Austin, Texas on Monday, January 28, as the two disparate groups share a concern over education funding; while the state’s universities lobbied lawmakers over the General Appropriations bill’s impact on higher education, motorcycle associations are concerned that funds allocated last session to the Texas Department of Public Safety are not being used effectively to support road safety and thereby costing taxpayers. More money is needed for motorcycle training and to educate the public about sharing the road with riders, said Terri Williams, a spokesperson for the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association (TMRA2) and on behalf of the Texas Confederation of Clubs and Independents. Texas’ “Share the Road” campaign isn’t long enough, only lasting the month of May, while states with yearlong programs have fewer accidents, which saves taxpayers money. The motorcycle groups are asking state lawmakers to pass the Motorcycle Crash Prevention Act, a new bill aimed at lowering the number of motorcycle accidents across Texas by providing additional funding to expand Texas’ “Share the Road” program -- a

public service campaign intended to make drivers more aware of motorcycles on the road -- and if the proposed bill becomes law, it would also fund more training for riders. OHIO MODIFIES HANDLEBAR HEIGHT LAW Ohio has modified its handlebar height law using language amended into S.B. 114 by John Kasich to change the limit from 15 inches from the lowest point of the saddle to no higher than shoulder height of the operator when seated in the operator’s seat or saddle. The bill also changes the definition of a motorcycle by creating a “cab-enclosed motorcycle” classification for two- or three-wheeled vehicles having an occupant compartment top that is either permanent or removable. The bill was signed into law on December 19, 2012 and changes take effect March 19, 2013. CALIFORNIA OFFICIALS UNVEIL LANE-SHARING RULES About 87% of California motorcycle riders reportedly slide between cars on crowded roadways – while only half of car drivers know it’s legal and 7% admit they’ve tried to block them – which is why the California Highway Patrol is now providing guidance to safely maneuver the white lines. California is the only state in the country where so-called “lane-splitting” or “lane-sharing” isn’t illegal, but state authorities have never, until now, told motorcyclists how to weave between traffic safely. The new rules, which the CHP posted on their website after consulting with other state agencies and motorcycle-rider groups as part of the California Motorcyclist Safety Program which trains new riders in the state, apply to city streets, highways and freeways across the Golden State. “Basically, what we’re most interested in is the speeds,” said Sgt. Mark Pope, statewide motorcycle safety coordinator for the CHP. “You should lane-split no faster than 10 mph over the speed of traffic around you, and we recommend riders not split at all if the traffic is faster than 30 mph.” CHP officers have always had the legal authority to ticket motorcyclists who were driving dangerously fast, Pope said, but the new rules are designed to provide specifics. The new written guidelines, which carry no legal weight, can be found at http://bit.ly/XxIRJb NEW MOTORCYCLE SALES REV UP Motorcycle sales in the United States revved up in 2012, rising a healthy 2.6% over 2011, according to a report released by the Motorcycle Industry Council. Better yet, the trade group said, retail activity was up in all four motorcycle “segments” -- the first time that has happened since 2002 -- with increases in scooter, dual-purpose, off-road and on-highway motorcycle sales. Scooter sales rose the most, at 7.7%, with dual-purpose motorcycles following closely at 7.4%. Sales of dirt bikes rose 2.1%, while those of on-highway bikes, which make up by far the largest segment in terms of overall numbers, went up the least, at 1.8%. The numbers were in line with expectations, as the MIC reported in December that for the first time since the market softened in 2006 and then crashed in 2008, it anticipated reporting an increase in sales figures. THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
Just over 1.1 million motorcycles were sold in 2006, and fewer than half that many in 2011 with 452,386 total new units sold in the U.S. JAPANESE MOTORCYCLE EXPORTS TO U.S. FLATTEN FOLLOWING DRAMATIC RISE Japanese manufacturers in 2012 exported 166,601 motorcycles to the United States, an increase of 1% compared to 2011, following a dramatic 87% increase in 2011 after the OEMs exported only 88,074 motorcycles to the country in 2010. JAMA reports that exports worldwide in 2012 decreased 5% to 479,163 after last year’s upturn. These figures come courtesy of the searchable database of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association. They pertain to the Big Four: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha. USED BIKE MARKET EXPERIENCES UPTURN Used motorcycle sales have heated up, sparking optimism at dealerships where trade-ins have become more valuable. As the economy has improved, even if it’s been marginal, more people have decided to go ahead and buy a motorcycle. And if they can’t afford a new bike, it could be a used one. Used motorcycle prices have recovered meaningfully since 2008, rising to a level that supports a healthy demand for new bikes as well, according to a recent survey from Robert W. Baird & Co. Used Harley prices were up 7% from a year ago and remain well above the low points found in the recession, said Baird analyst Craig Kennison who analyzed motorcycle sales data from the National Automobile Dealers Association. “If the demand for used motorcycles picks up, it usually suggests the demand for new bikes will go up as well,” Kennison said. 2013 NCOM CONVENTION IN RENO The 28th annual NCOM Convention will be held Mother’s Day weekend, May 9-12, 2013 at the Silver Legacy Resort-Casino located at 407 N. Four guys have been going to the same fishing trip for many years. Two days before the group is to leave, Ron’s wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn’t going. Ron’s mates are very upset that he can’t go, but what can they do. Two days later the three get to the camping site to find Ron sitting there with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire, sitting having a cold beer. “Shucks, Ron, how long you been here, and how did you talk your missus into letting you go?” “Well, I’ve been here since last night. Yesterday evening, I was sitting in my living room chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and asked, ‘Guess who?” I pulled her hands off, and there she was, wearing a sexy little nightie. She took my hand and pulled me into our bedroom. The room had candles and rose petals all over. Well she’s been reading “50 Shades of Grey”...... On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie her up and cuff her to the bed, so I did. And then she said, “Do whatever you want.” So, Here I am. Let’s get them beers on ice and get them hooks baited. ___________________________________________________ The Mexican maid asked for a pay increase. The wife was very upset about this, and decided to talk to her about the raise.
A man came home from work one day to find his wife on the front porch with her bags packed. ‘Just where the heck do you think you’re going!’, said the man. ‘I’m going to Las Vegas’, said the wife, ‘I just found out I can get $400 a night for what I give you for free! The man said, ‘Wait a minute!’, and then ran inside the house only to come back a few minutes later with his suitcases in hand. ‘Where the heck are you going?’, said the wife. The man said, ‘I want to see how the hell you’re gonna’ live on $800 a year!’ ___________________________________________________ n case you didn’t already know this little tidbit of factual trivia.... On July 20, 1969, as commander of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module, Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon. His first words after stepping on the moon, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” were televised to Earth and heard by millions. But just before he re-entered the Lander, he made the enigmatic remark - “Good luck, Mr. Gorsky .” Many people at Nasa thought it was a casual remark concerning some rival Soviet Cosmonaut. However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian or American space programs . Over the years, many people questioned Armstrong as to what the - ‘good luck, Mr. Gorsky’ statement meant, but Armstrong always just smiled.
Maria: “Well, Señora, there are tree reasons why I wanna increaze.”
On July 5, 1995, in Tampa Bay , Florida , while answering questions following a speech, a reporter brought up the 26-yearold question about Mr. Gorsky to Armstrong.
“The first is that I iron better than you.”
This time he finally responded because Mr. Gorsky had died,
Wife: “Who said you iron better than me?”
So Neil Armstrong felt he could now answer the question.
Maria: “Jor huzban he say so.”
Here is the answer to “who was Mr. Gorsky”:
Wife: “Oh yeah?”
In 1938, when he was a kid in a small mid-western town , he was playing baseball with a friend in the backyard. His friend hit the ball, which landed in his neighbor’s yard by their bedroom window.
She asked: “Now Maria, why do you want a pay increase?”
Maria: “The second reason eez that I am a better cook than you.” Wife: “Nonsense, who said you were a better cook than me?”
His neighbors were Mr. and Mrs. Gorsky. As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs. Gorsky declaring to Mr. Gorsky,
Maria: “Jor hozban did.” Wife, increasingly agitated: “Oh he did, did he?” Maria: “The third reason is that I am better at sex than you in the bed.” Wife, really boiling now and through gritted teeth. Wife: “And did my husband say that as well?” Maria: “No Señora....The gardener did.” Wife: “How much are we talking here, Maria?” ___________________________________________________ WHY? do cats always look at their poop before they cover it up and we do we always look at ours’ before flushing it down the toilet? Odd. 40
“Sex! You want sex?! You’ll get sex when the kid next door walks on the damn moon!” Amazing......but true.

The Thunder Roads Magazine APP A MUST for all bikers
I
By Hillbilly
n this new world of technology, an old school biker could get lost. Thank goodness Thunder Roads Magazine has an App for that! It will help even the technologically challenged, like me Hillbilly, enter the next century of technology. The best part is it’s FREE. I know that›s hard to believe, but yes, it’s FREE! Once you download this App, I doubt you will go on any rides or trips without it. Our vendors and sponsors will love it as well because you will be able to find them with the push of a button. From the first day I learned about the App, and every day since, I still can›t believe how easy it is to use and how much information is in my phone under one little button. The first thing you need to do is download the app from your particular App store on your phone. Click on search and type in Thunder roads magazine. Download and install the app on your phone. When you first open the App give it a couple of seconds to find you and what state you are in. That›s right I said it will find you! Maryland edition will pop-up for everyone in MD, Delaware, and D.C. We are the same App for all three and the listings will come up for all three. When you hit the events/calendar part, a listing will come up letting you know all the rides and events that are coming up and where you can go for more info. If you are looking for a place to eat, hit advertisers and then hit bars/restaurants. You’ll see our advertisers and the specials they are running. You can also find apparel, and other business services that are biker friendly. If you hit the map button, it will show you where you are at that time and show you where you need to go to find the business or event you are looking for. You can also visit their website or call them from the App. If your memory is not as good as it used to be, like mine, you can set a reminder about the event or advertiser you want to visit. Sounds too good to be true doesn›t it? Now if you go to another state that has Thunder Roads Magazine, the app will automatically switch to that state and you can browse their events and advertisers. Please remember to shop with all the Thunder Roads advertisers; without them we don›t have a magazine. We now have Thunder Roads Magazines in 21 different states and we are working to get all of them. As with all new technology, there have been some glitches with the app and sometimes you have to manually switch to the state. We are working everyday to fix these minor issues. If you find yourself having any problems with the app please don›t hesitate to call Hillbilly at 443875-7887 and I will do my best to have your problem resolved. Soon the app is going to be your number one source when you’re on the road. It will help you find events, places to shop, and eat, that caters to bikers and who would LOVE to have you stop by. Don›t wait DOWNLOAD it TODAY!
