s we here at Thunder Roads Magazine MDDE-DC get ready for the holidays, we want everyone to think about all those that won’t be able to enjoy the holidays with their friends and family; as there service to our country places them far away during the holiday season. This month we are also asking everyone to show the world what holiday spirit is all about. Hillbilly says it best in his article this month. “Pay it Forward” should be the motto of the month for everyone.
The holidays are expensive enough for us all in this trying economic time. So please think before you drink and drive this year. I know a DWI or Vehicular Manslaughter charge is not on my wish list this year. Enjoy yourself and have a safe holiday season. Finally, we look forward to another great year of riding and events. Now is a good time to visit all our advertisers to get in some great holiday deals. As Always Keep Changing Lanes, Big City

The Story of Christmas Reminds Us to Believe in Each Other
We rarely spend enough time focusing on the completely human element of scandal surrounding the birth of Jesus. According to the moral teachings of the day, not only did Joseph have every right to break off his engagement with his mysteriously pregnant future wife, but by all accounts, Mary could’ve been stoned in the village square for infidelity. The religious folks of the day would’ve correctly cited that stoning her was “justified” by law. That’s some dogmatic and unforgiving doctrine. Mary and Joseph lived in a religious culture that called for harsh treatment of unwed women who became pregnant. People were no more inclined to accept her explanation that “God did it,” than we would be today. It was an outlandish explanation. God simply does not do this sort of thing, right? The very idea offends our sense of morality, not to mention our scientific and theological sensibilities -- just as much as it did in that day and age. Imagine how it might go over tomorrow if you had to explain to your own parents and neighbors that you were pregnant (or your fiancé was pregnant), but that your child was “God’s only son.” On top of Mary’s outrageous claim, I always think about the gossip the couple had to endure -- talk about disgraceful! I wonder if Joseph would’ve been elected to the town council or allowed to be an usher in his local church. Do you think they would’ve let Mary sing in the church choir? Were they lining up to let the girl who claimed to be mysteriously impregnated Gordon “Preacher” Bacon PO Box 1107, Leonardtown, MD. 20650 preacherrwm@yahoo.com • 240.577.0605 Facebook; Rushing Wind Motorcycle Ministry
those on death row and lifers with no chance of parole. The Bacon Family moved to Fairmont, WV in 1991 to where Gordon was an interim pastor for The Church of Living Waters Jesus Outreach.
Gordon and his family, his wife Debbie, Son Gordon “Gordy” Jr, Christina and Janine first started out in ministry in New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation in January of 1983. Gordon and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1986 and continued their work with the Navajo from there. During their stay in Arizona The Bacon Family Ministry attended Sweetwater Church of The Valley under Pastor Glenn Foster. Gordon Bacon also was both a student and an instructor at Sweetwater Bible College. handle money in their shop? When everyone doubted them (and everyone most certainly did), they had to trust each other. Joseph demonstrates extreme compassion placing his family and his reputation at risk with his decision to protect Mary and divorce her quietly; that is, until he is visited by an angel himself. You see, Joseph simply wasn’t as concerned with his status and standing in the community as he was with Mary’s well-being. And that is just the thing: The angel didn’t appear to Mary and Joseph at the same time. In the face of all these problems, they had to believe not just in God -- but they certainly had to believe in each other. God’s entrance into the world depended on the trust and compassion of a human relationship. In many ways, the birth of Jesus is celebrated each time we, like Mary and Joseph, set aside our concerns, our agendas and our reputations to reach out to one another with a similar compassion and trust. Through all the whispers, condemnation, dishonor and uncertainty surrounding the narrative of Jesus’ birth, the truth is actually less religious and more relational than we sometimes imagine. The power of this child’s birth is a shared celebration grounded in our belief -- not just in a compassionate God, but in one another. It is fitting to remember this Christmas that God’s greatest love story began with two people (a lot like you and me) who chose to set aside their reputations, their future, possibly even their own safety -- and simply trust in each other.
In 1993 the Lord called Gordon and Debbie Bacon to Southern Maryland. Debbie became the Administrator for The Rock Christian Academy while Gordon continued to minister around the country and into Mexico. Today Gordon “Preacher” Bacon is the Founder of Rushing Wind Ministry and Rushing Wind M/M in Southern Maryland.

his past Sunday, Nov. 10th, ABATE held our annual legislative seminar for 2013-2014. At this seminar we collectively decide what our legislative agenda will be for 2014. This seminar is open to all members. We met in St. Mary’s county this year. We had a good attendance, including Gubernatorial candidates Charles Lollar and David Craig. Delegate Tony O’Donnell was also in attendance. During this seminar the Board of Directors votes on our legislative agenda. We decide what bills we will ask to have introduced and what items can be handled administratively. This year some of the items on the agenda were: helmet modification bill, tire aging, red light bill, motorcycle only checkpoints, increasing motorcycle awareness in the MVA drivers manual, supporting legislation for must appear for accidents resulting in deaths and supporting good distracting driving legislation. Within the next month we will be meeting with the Maryland State Police, MVA, State Highway Administration and others to discuss our agenda and find out what other legislation is coming down the pike that may affect motorcyclists in the state of Maryland. The board will also be discussing and finalizing our agenda. There is a lot of hard work that lies ahead but we are up to the challenge. Our members and board are working diligently in making sure our agenda is concise, accurate and that it is in the best interest of the motorcyclists in this state. In order to do that, we must devote a lot of our time to lobby our legislators and make sure they know what our issues are. We will be present in Annapolis every Monday night
THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
beginning January 14th, 2014. This is what we have been doing for over 30 years. We will be attending all hearings related to our bills and will have expert testimony presented at these committee meetings. It is not only the bills we pass but the ones that we stop from passing. We must remain vigilant in watching for any legislation that may negatively impact motorcyclists in Maryland. If you are interested in seeing us in action or coming to Annapolis on Monday nights to help us, come to our state office at 71 Franklin St., Annapolis MD 21401 at 630 pm. We walk over as a group. If you need more info you can contact me at 443 822-2558 or the state office at 410 2639185. We would love to have you. ABATE has also been busy forming new chapters. We have been to Montgomery County recruiting members and we have successfully started the Mountain (Garrett and Allegany) Chapter. Our next focus will be on the Frederick County area. If you are interested in helping to form these chapters, please contact myself or the state office. We are working hard on making sure the entire state is represented in Annapolis. As always, ride safe, ride free and keep up the fight. Michelle Holcomb Executive Director ABATE of Maryland, Inc. For more information – www.abateofmd.org

pay it forward I
was thinking the other day. It’s incredible how much bikers and the different groups they ride with do to help others. Almost any day of the year you can find a run or a cause going on and some bikers headed that way to help. Is there any other group of people around that so runs to help others the way we do? This is not to make bikers out to be saints or anything like that. I just thought during the holiday season I would point out the good things most of us do in case Santa really is watching. I love the idea of the movie Pay it forward. The concept is so simple. Do something nice for someone that can’t pay you back. That’s it; no lights, cameras, or you tube. I was thinking about the upcoming Holiday season and trying to do something a little different than what we do all year. For the last couple of years the group I ride with visits a couple of nursing homes on Christmas Eve. What started out as something to ride to have now become an important part of Christmas for me. We do a lot of rides during the year but this one to me is the BEST. Spending time with these older folks during Christmas is truly magical. You don’t have to ask if they liked us coming by. You can see it in their eyes. When you look
THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
around the room, it’s not the only the older folks enjoying the visit, there are people wiping their eyes and cheeks everywhere. It always warms me to the bone. This is when I had an idea by putting all this together in an article and hoping it would catch on. I know how much you do during the year and I hate to burden you further. I just thought it would be great if this year we each gave a present to ourselves. Give yourself that special Christmas feeling at a time when this country seems to need it more than ever. I’m asking you to go out without any fanfare or publicity and find someone that needs your help and to just HELP. Just one act of kindness for someone that can’t possibly pay you back for it. Who knows if enough of us do it we could start a tidal wave of Christmas spirit that could last a long time. It could be as simple as pay the toll for the car behind you. It could be giving an old coat to someone you know needs it. It doesn’t matter how small or large. Do it from your heart. Just writing this article I’m starting to feel better about the upcoming Christmas season. May God Bless and keep you during this wonderful time of year. MERRY CHRISTMAS and a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! Hillbilly

This woman who owned a local Sports Pub bitched and complained every morning when she’d have to clean the men’s urinals as there was piss all over the floor in front of them, rather than them hitting the mark and making it in the urinal. She knew there was something going on rather than just drunken pissing. So, she posted the following sign: PLAYERS WITH SHORT BATS PLEASE STAND CLOSER TO THE PLATE. It worked like a charm. Things That Make You Go WTF? WHY? do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front. WHY? do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a Diet Coke. WHY? do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters. WHY? do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
WHY If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? HELL YES IT IS! WHY If flying is so safe, do they call the airport the terminal? A young, little N.Y. girl was sitting proudly on her brand new bike she got for Christmas when a horse policeman rode up next to her and said “you really need reflecor- lights and a horn on your new bike, don’t you think? The little girl looked up and innocently replied, “I think your boss should think about getting you a horse with the dick underneath the animal instead of on top of it.” One of the inventors of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson, died and went to Heaven. At the gates, Saint Peter told Arthur. ‘Since you’ve been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want to in Heaven.’ Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, ‘ I want to hang out with God.’ Saint Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. God recognized Arthur and commented, ‘Okay, so you were the one who invented the Harley-Davidson motorcycle? ‘Arthur said, ‘Yes, I’m one of them...’
WHY? do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight. WHY? do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.
God commented: ‘Well, what’s the big deal in inventing something that’s pretty un-stable, makes noise and pollution and can’t run without a road?’
EVER WONDER................. WHY the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? WHY can’t women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but finally spoke, ‘Excuse me, but aren’t you the inventor of Woman?’
WHY don’t you ever see the headline ‘Psychic Wins Lottery’
God said, ‘Ah, yes.’ One of my most prized and praised accomplishments.
WHY? is ‘abbreviated’ such a long word? WHY is it that doctors call what they do ‘practice’? WHY is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?
‘Well,’ said Arthur, ‘professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention ! God was intrigued; “elaborate, please”.
WHY is the man who invests all your money called a broker? WHY is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? WHY isn’t there mouse-flavored cat food? WHY didn’t Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
1. There’s too much inconsistency in the front-end suspension 2. It chatters constantly at high speeds 3. Most rear ends are too soft and wobble about too much 4.. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust
WHY do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
5. The maintenance costs are literally outrageous!!!!
You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes?
‘Hmmm, you may have some good points there,’ replied God, ‘hold on.’
WHY don’t they make the whole plane out of that stuff?! WHY don’t sheep shrink when it rains? WHY are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
God went to his Celestial Galaxy computer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it. ‘Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,’ God said to Arthur, ‘but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours’. K.I.S.S. page composed & edited by: Toni McCoy Shearon aka “MaMa Thunder” of Thunder Roads Tennessee i have chosen this name for our monthly recipe page, as that was what my mother, rest her soul, always used to say when I would assist her in the kitchen. mom was an avid supporter of the kiss (keep it simple sweetie) method of cooking. i now, more than ever, truely appreciate her philosophy of always taking shortcuts where you can, as long as your ultimate outcome is that of down home, labor of love cooking.
CHRISTMAS PRIME RIB w/ HOMEMADE CREAMY HORSERADISH SAUCE; MADE SUPER SIMPLE
Some folks get so intimidated when cooking a Prime Rib, but it’s actually so simple and once in the oven, you get to get on with other side dishes and just forget. 1 4-6 lb. Rib Roast - will prob. have 4 or 5 bones Preheat oven to 150 degrees for medium or 135 degrees for medium rare. You’ll need a meat thermometer also. Rub your Prim Rib thoroughly all over with your hands with quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Don’t cheap out on essentials. Make a rub in a small bowl, combine: A small palmful of each; kosher salt, coarse ground black pepper, dry mustard, dry coffee powder, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, corriander and basil. If there’s any extra Rub left over, just put in a small plastic container in fridge and it’s good for up to 3 months. Remember....always rub dry spices between fingers to refreshen them. Place Rib Roast in a heavy turkey pan with sides, like a lasagna pan with thermometer placed in the middle, between 2 bones.. Put just a thin coat of Olive Oil in bottom of pan and place fat side down. Cook 2-1/4 hrs. for medium-rare with big pink center or 2-3/4 hours for medium with a tinge of pink. SUPER SIMPLE CREAMY HORSERADISH SAUCE So, take your Prime Rib out of the pan and place on tin foil and wrap it up good to let it “rest” for 15 minutes. Put the pan over a large burner on your stove and add 2 cups of beef broth over medium-high heat and take a wooden spoon and really make sure you get all those little pieces of stuck-on goodies from the Prime Rib. Add salt & pepper to taste, 1/2 cup of sour cream, 1/2 cup of mayo, chopped scallions, 1 Tbl. of Grey Poupon mustard and 1/4 cup of White Balsamic vinegar and 1/2 cup of the prepared horseradish sauce in any condiment aisle. Whisk together over medium-low heat until completely emulsified. Let it get all bubbley hot and transfer to a gravy boat for guests to pour over their fabulous thick-cut slabs of perfect mediumrare or medium Prime Rib. Do something different this Christmas.......forget the turkey or ham, go elegant and first class with Perfection Prime Rib. Your Family and friends will be talking about it well into the New Year!
CHRISTMAS (ELVIS) CHEESE BISKITS
4 Ozs. Lard (very cold large marble sized) 2 Cups of Cake Flour * Makes lighter, flakier biskits 2 tsps. Baking Powder 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda 1/2 tsp. Kosher Salt 3/4 cup Buttermilk 14
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In large glass or ceramic bowl combine cake flour, baking soda & powder with salt. Add cubed lard and blend mixture by hand crushing mix between your fingertips as if making a dough. Continue mixing while slowly adding buttermilk. Do not overwork the dough; you want them to be kinda’ lumpy but ingredients mixed. Right at this point, add shredded cheese of your liking (this is not in Michael’s recipe but I love cheese biscuits, so now’s the time if you do also) work rough shredded cheese in fast and lightly. Spray a wooden spoon with butter spray and drop big dollops onto a Silt Sheet on a baking sheet leaving room for them to spread out as they cook. You should have enough for 12 biscuits, each about the size of a peach. Bake until lightly browned, about 15 minutes.

or as long as anyone could remember JW always loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles but with his disability related to Cerebral Palsy he was not able to live the dream of actually riding on a Harley and feeling the wind blowing in his face, an experience that we all take for granted as we cruise on our own bikes every day. Early in September JW, full of excitement and enthusiasm came by the All American Harley Davidson dealership just to be near the bikes that he loves and his emotional feelings were noticed by the general manager, Steve “Smurf’ Keene who decided immediately to find a way for JW to fulfill his lifetime dream of actually riding on a Motorcycle. Within a couple of days a plan was developed that would provide JW the ride of a lifetime on two different Motorcycles, one a Side Car, powered by a 1995 Ultra Classic and the second ride would be on a Trike. These bikes belonged to private individuals who volunteered there bikes and there time to help fulfill JW’s dream. These vehicles were utilized because they provided the safest way to transport JW and insure that his personal safety was safeguarded at all times. On September 28, 2013 JW came to the dealership unaware THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
of any plan for him to get the opportunity he had wished for.(A ride on a Harley Davidson). Through the ingenuity of all a safety belt was quickly designed and we carefully placed JW in the side car. His excitement was overwhelming to all as he tried to express his happiness! On the ride, JW never stopped smiling as he waved to everyone on the highway. When that ride ended JW was transferred to the rear seat of the Trike and his joy continued as JW directed everyone to Saddle Up! And follow me! In closing let me say that it is very hard to convey the emotion that came from JW during his ride. Sometimes he was difficult to understand as his body would shake with excitement. But make not mistake about it, this was JW’s day to ride. In conclusion JW as made a honorary Hog Chapter member and was awarded his own official Chapter Vest with all the appropriate patches that he proudly wears to display his member status. As he left at the end of the day you could hear him say, I AM A HOG!!! Article written by Robert Kuntz and authorization is given to publish this article!

ou see it everywhere, “Support our Troops!” it’s become a common phrase in our culture today. But, do you? Do YOU support our troops? Sure, we all support our troops in the sense that we want them home safely and as soon as possible. But, what have you done to “Support our Troops?” On a foggy Sunday morning, in the middle of November, over 350 volunteers got together in Sharptown, Maryland, with the sole purpose of Supporting our Troops! Operation We Care is the name of the program. Started in 2007 as part of a Christmas project for the Delmarva Harley Owners Group to show support and appreciation for the local servicemen and women who were protecting our country. Since then, under the direction of Jeff Merritt, Operation We Care has grown into a 501c3 organization that
20
collects and distributes care packages twice a year (May and November). “Our first event, we packed 101 packages. And, last May we packed 680. Our goal is to pack close to 800 today.” According to Jeff Merritt. They met that goal, 800 packages were packed, sealed, and addressed on Sunday, and ready to ship Monday morning. The volunteers were made up of all walks of life. There were politicians, Soldiers, Delmarva Young Marines, Families of soldier’s currently serving, EMT and off-duty police officers, Veterans and Bikers. Girl Scouts were there decorating the inside of each box, the Salisbury University girls Softball and Tennis teams were there to stuff boxes, as well as Thunder Roads Magazine MD-DEDE and many many more companies.

All of the care packages being put together were going to local battalions from Maryland and Delaware. With so many family members making the trip to volunteer, they were able to make the care package for their loved ones a little extra special. Throughout the day, the volunteers were treated to snacks and a lunch, put together with that small town pot-Luck flare. You didn’t leave hungry! An emotional moment came when the Operation We Care set up a Skype session with one of the battalions and surprised some family members in attendance. Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous donations from everyone, including the National and local stores. If you want to get involved, please go to www.operationwecare.org and take a look at their donation list, and see if you can put a few items in your cart the next time you go to the grocery store. The number one goal these ladies have is making people laugh and ensuring everyone they meet has a head full of awesome memories that makes them desire to come back to enjoy the event all over again! I must say from personal experience they ROCK the show every time!
Through my travels I get to meet some pretty interesting people doing some pretty interesting things! It goes without saying that my eyes have nearly seen it all! Some I wish I could un-see! Recently, I had the great pleasure of meeting a very outrageous, gorgeous, and fun group of ladies who travel the biker event circuit raising canes and mixing up the fun! I decided my first column for TRM should feature these ladies because as they say, “women who behave rarely make history!” TRM readers allow me to introduce you to the ring leader, Lucky Bowles (yes that is her god given name) and her circle of wild cats! Lucky & her group have been working motorcycle events since 2003 and Loving every minute of it! Through the years they have traveled to Daytona Beach, FL; Myrtle Beach, SC; Sturgis, SD; Reno, NV; and Lil Sturgis, MS. Come to any biker event and you will find these gorgeous ladies behind (ON) the bar mixing up “Lucky Specials” for the crowd, Go-Go dancing, cracking jokes, rocking the tall stage at Froggy’s, and creating an all out, one off, outrageous good time for the world to enjoy!
28
As you can imagine, the ladies have endless stories and scrap books full of adventure! Lucky herself has been invited to do a number of photo shoots with bad ass bikes and super hot rods both! However, the one opportunity that sticks with her most is meeting the well known (and very talented) Brian Boan with Devils Candy Customs. During the event he airbrushed her entire body which, was published in an Air brushing book as well as magazines from the event. “The best part about the events for me is the amazing people I meet and the adventure my coworkers and I have, after all I am a biker myself.”

Lucky was born in Alaska, and is very well traveled. She spent her teen years in a small country town in Mississippi; “which is probably why I am a country girl at heart.” While Lucky is definitely “the girl next door” she certainly is not your typical “girl”. She went to school for Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Trades, Welding and Motorcycle Mechanics through Harley Davidson early and late models!” Lucky truly enjoys every adventure life throws at her and can be found doing a wide variety of truly insane fun activities such as mud ridding, concerts, shooting pool, working on anything with an engine, music of all sorts, laughing with family and friends, bartending, dancing, Halloween, and most of all traveling! “I love adventure and traveling it has become a part of who I am.” Like what you see!! All who are interested in retaining Lucky and/or the ladies can reach them by email at sinfuluck13@gmail. com or through instagram sinfuluck13. Sippin Shine with Hillbilly And
The Flaunt Girls
Merry Christmas!
You have all been such good little bikers I have a very special present for you. The Flaunt Girls! No, you can’t keep them. I did the best thing I could think of for our readers. I went and spent the afternoon talking to them at Mountainfest 2013. Once again I sacrifice for our readers. Having to spend time talking with and taking pictures with the Flaunt Girls was really hard for me. If you believe that I will sell you my best coon dog Ol’ Blue and swear off shine for life! It was AWESOME!! After one of their shows at Mountainfest 2013 we sat down for some shine and some talk like all us girls love to do. I talked with Breanna Nylen, (stage name-Mia big tease), Lindsay Sutphin,(Kitty Bang Bang), Ginna Jones, (Anita a good lovin). I hope you get to know the ladies a little better after you have read this. Meghyn Cabot (Stella Curves) had to leave the interview before we started. HB- Do you ladies ride now or have you in the past?
Dakota. For the girls that live out of state they have to practice on Skype and get together when they can. We have our show down but we are always revamping things so we have to keep practicing. After this rally we will begin practice on a brand new show.
HB- How long will it take to get a new show ready to go? BN- My Dad owned a dealership and after school I would go home and ride my dirt bike. I rode my dirt bike to school for show BN- It takes a long time. We all have full time jobs. I have a marketing company. Gina just finished school and is a paraand tell when I was 5. legal. Lindsay is a stylist. It’s hard to do all we need to do. We all LS- I own a 50. I don’t know what kind but I ride it around my have very full lives. Flaunt is our chance to step away and be a neighborhood. rock star for the weekend. We have a great time and get to hang out with the girls and be onstage. We get show other women GJ- I had a Yamaha 80 when I was a kid. I was a big tomboy and what it is to flaunt it. Confidence, girl power, curves. rode everywhere. I am looking to get a bike in the near future. HB- Do you get homesick being on the road so much? HB- Ladies you told me earlier that it was your first time here and to W.Va. GJ- I do. I love coming out here on the weekends and living the rockstar life. It starts to get to you after awhile. Hey can you sign this or take a picture with me? When I get home I’m just Gina and no big deal so it balances out. I love what I’m doing but we sure work hard. I get to live the best of both worlds. HB- How hard was it for you ladies to go and tell your families? Guess what I got this great job I’m a flaunt girl. Are they supportive? BN- My parents are both teachers now. Very conservative. We started out as cheerleaders. Our team left town and we still wanted to dance. In South Dakota we didn’t have a lot of options. One of the saloons in town asked if we could come up and do a burlesque show. I went and looked online at a show and thought to myself I don’t know if I can do that. I decided to give it a try and we put on the show and my parents were very supportive of my decision. At first they were like okay I guess but each year we push the envelope and get a little more edgier. Now I hear, oh Breanna come on. LS- It’s a little hard for my boyfriend. He’s great about it but sometimes it does wear on him. We also have 3 kids to take care of. He supports me because I’m passionate about doing this. GJ- My mom hasn’t seen any shows outside of our theatre shows. My dad is probably my biggest fan. He always calls and asks how did it go? Are you doing new stuff? HB- What do you say to your critics? Too raunchy or not appropriate. BN- It’s Burlesque. It’s supposed to be creative and suggestive dancing. Go out and flaunt it. We don’t encourage young girls to do this. We do encourage them to take dance class. Play soccer or join a cheerleading team. Most important be active.
feel about bikers? All of them said that bikers are their favorite group to perform in front of. I don’t think they said it just because of where we were. They said that they were impressed by how much we gave to the community and we were always the best tippers and most well behaved. They said like other groups every once in a while there will be a problem but for the most part bikers police themselves and they always treat us with kindness. Well there it is. A very special talk with the Flaunt girls for all the readers of THRM. I want to wish all of you and your families the very best MERRY CHRISTMAS from Hillbilly. Remember when you are celebrating this Christmas season to always share with friends and always lose the lid when you are sippin the shine. I’m looking forward to Great things in the New Year. May God bless and keep you in the New Year. See Ya Next Year! HILLBILLY
HB- Where do you see this going in the future? BN- We just hope more people learn about us and come to see one of our shows. We hope to help instill confidence with a dash of humor in all our shows. Who knows maybe we will be doing our own show in Las Vegas some day. We are blessed to get to do this. We are one of seven flaunt girls. I’m lucky to be here doing this. I left after we talked with a different view of the flaunt girls. We have all seen them on TV. or at one of their shows and had an opinion of them. I came away impressed by the way they handle themselves and the groups of other people who flock to them. One of the last things we talked about was how do they

Bureau of Un-Intelligence
In this day and age, one might think that Criminal Profiling by Law Enforcement in these United States would have gone by the wayside. We still hear of wretched tales of profiling by Law Enforcement and TSA Agents with regard to those of foreign decent, and those in our Ethnic Communities. But let me tell you first hand, it’s alive and well with regards to those doing nothing more than wearing a patch. Very recently, I and 8 of my brothers and a couple of Ole Ladies were headed to a Halloween party about 2 hours from our Clubhouse. We piled in our club van and a second vehicle behind us. The trip was fairly uneventful as we traveled down the highway, until we stopped at a gas station that is. Several of us got out of the vehicle and entered the gas station to load up on Cigs and take a bathroom break. Still pretty uneventful. I noticed a man leaning on a stack of soda cases at the rear of the store eating a sandwich. He didn’t fit the scene of someone just stopping in for some gas station grub, but I didn’t give it a lot more thought. As we existed the building and were chatting about the final leg of our trip I noticed a Sherriff cruiser pull into the lot and stop behind the building. I then saw the aforementioned guy come out a side exit and go straight around the back of the building where the cruiser had stopped. Again, no big deal. We weren’t doing anything wrong. So we all loaded up and pulled back out onto the highway. The van and our Brother and his Ole Lady behind us in their pickup merged into normal traffic flow, and were all traveling right at the speed limit. Of course we noticed that the cruiser had pulled out about 15 seconds behind us and was following. As we were traveling we started noticing cruisers in the center median starting to stack up down the highway, but we had heard there was a huge college Halloween party on this major thoroughfare and there was a heavy police presence looking for impaired drivers. Well it was about 4 miles when we saw the lights go on behind our brother in the pickup. We were exiting in another mile anyways so we figured we’d just wait at the exit. We almost made it that far. We didn’t notice that all the other cruisers that had filed in behind the one who pulled over our brother, but as we signaled to exit at the bottom of the ramp, our tail lit up like a UFO landing! Seven cruisers and one unmarked truck. When the Lady Deputy walked up to the driver’s side and our probate rolled the window down I immediately announced that there were weapons in the vehicle, as well as authorized Concealed Carry Permits in conjunction with said weapons. She asked how many and a few raised their hand. I also handed her our valid registration and current insurance card. I was in the passenger seat and noticed a guy with a pony tail and wearing a flannel shirt standing near my door. I rolled my window down and asked him if I could help him with something, and he presented his badge on a chain from under his shirt. I again asked him if there was something he needed. He asked if I knew why we were pulled over. I said no. He said that our front license plate was in the front window instead of mounted to the front of the vehicle. I told him I’m pretty sure state law requires it be “prominently displayed on the front of the vehicle” not “Mounted on the front of the vehicle”. He responded “You’re arguing a technicality”, to which I told him the legitimacy of this entire stop may come down to a “technicality”. I asked if that’s the case, then why they pulled over the guy following us. He said asked “Isn’t he with you”? I said yes, but he’s not in the damn vehicle with us is he? (I later found out from our brother that the excuse they used was the 2 inch tow ball mounted on the bumper hitch of the pickup, which THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
has been there for about 15 years “Obstructed the view of his license plate.” Both stops were total BS!!! The undercover had overheard the Lady Deputy call on the radio for a CCW Weapons check. He said he needed everyone in the van, all 8 of us to put our hands above our head and not to move them. Hmm.. seems odd that I announced, as is required with the CCW law that we had weapons, and that we had permits and he immediately reacts as if we were going to pull a gun on him. Hey Dip$&it, if one of us was going to shoot you, it certainly wouldn’t be AFTER I told you we had weapons! So he pulls me out of the van, takes my weapon out of my vest (after going through every other pocket of my vest “searching for the weapon” when I told him exactly what pocket it was in). Then he allows me to give him my CCW Permit and ID. During which time all of this is transpiring, we are surrounded by Adrenaline junkies in their Tactical outfits like it’s some checkpoint in Afghanistan! So, the legal IDs must not have been sufficient regarding us behaving within our rights as an American Citizen, because they then decided to extricate everyone, one by one and search everyone for weapons. After finding none, they tell us all to get back in the van. The man in obvious charge then proceeds to tell us all that if we have any illegal drugs on us, or in the vehicle to give them up now and they “will dump them on the side of the road and let us be on way”. LMFAO!!! Yeah deputy Dumba$$, this is my first rodeo! We acknowledged his offer, but to his disappointment proclaimed that we had no illegal drugs. So out came the drug dog. He told us to all sit in the van, roll up the windows and the dog would run around the vehicle. Well, I’m no dog trainer, but I watched the dog circle the vehicle twice. It never so much as stopped, or even sneezed. But of course, they open my door and proclaim the dog’s victory in sniffing out drugs in our vehicle. (As if I didn’t expect that) So, out we all came again, one by one. Me first of course. Commander Deputy Dumba$$ proceeds to scold me telling me that he warned us that if they found illegal drugs the three with CCWs were going to jail. I disappointed him again by telling him there were no illegal drugs. So another 20 minutes while they searched everyone us, and the entire vehicle, only to….wait for it… not find one illegal drug. So after an hour and twenty minutes, wasting the resources of 12 officers and a drug dog, nothing. It seems to me that I would ask for my money back on the purchase of that drug dog. In fact, makes me wonder if anyone else has been convicted by drug dogs, if they’ve ever asked how many false positives their dog may have given? If they even keep records of their failures, which I doubt. We were “rewarded” by telling us we could go on our way, you know, our God Given Right as an American Citizen in the first place. I wonder had we of been a group of off duty officers on our way to an FOP Halloween party, carrying Legal Weapons, or perhaps a group of preachers with CCWs headed to church to pray for their souls, would they have gone to this extreme? My guess is no. Sad knowing that plenty of Cops and Preachers are sitting in prison for more heinous crimes than us driving down the highway, sober, not carrying any drugs or illegal weapons. So rest easy my fellow Americans, knowing that your streets are safer because the Bureau of Un-Intelligence is out there harassing and violating the civil rights of American Citizens in the name of Justice, simply because we wear a vest with the same picture on it. By the way, this is called profiling, and it is illegal. So who’s the criminal? – Tabasco Tabasco.tro@gmail.com

CDC TASK FORCE CALLS FOR HELMET LAWS A task force operating under the auspices of the Atlantabased Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is recommending that all states have a mandatory helmet law in place to require motorcycle riders of all ages to wear a helmet. Citing reduced injuries and fatalities, as well as economic benefits, the Community Preventive Services Task Force, appointed by the director of the CDC, will make its recommendations to the federal agency and report its findings to the U.S. Congress in early December. The CDC, whose primary mission is to fight disease, issued a report last summer recommending that all 50 states enact universal helmet laws in response to a sharp increase in motorcyclist fatalities; but ignoring the fact that the number of motorcycles in use nationwide has increased substantially over the past decade, and that costs associated with un-helmeted cyclists involved in fatal accidents represent a tiny fraction of overall U.S. healthcare expenditures. In the meantime, U.S. Representative Tom Petri (R-WI) has authored a joint letter from members of Congress calling for the CDC to stop investigating motorcycling issues such as helmet laws, which they have no experience or expertise with, and “…to direct your attention and resources to areas that are not currently already being addressed elsewhere in the government.” URGE CONGRESSIONAL ACTION TO BAR E15 GAS The US Defenders (www.usdefenders.org) issued a Call To Action on October 26, 2013 calling for support of House Resolution 1462 “to Stop the Sale of Ethanol 15 (E15).” The bipartisan RFS Reform Act would “eliminate the cornbased ethanol mandate currently required by the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), reduce the overall requirements of cellulosic ethanol not filled by other advanced bio-fuels, and rescind the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waivers allowing gasoline blends containing up to 15-percent of ethanol.” Introduced by Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), Jim Costa (DCA), Steve Womack (R-AR), and Peter Welch (D-VT), H.R. 1462 would effectively overhaul the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) which mandates that 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels be part of our nation’s fuel supply by 2022, almost all of which being fulfilled by corn ethanol which in turn diverts nearly 40% of our nation’s corn crop from food and feed. Congress created the RFS program in 2005 to promote the ethanol industry by setting the minimum amount of renewable fuel that must be blended into motor fuels annually. E10 (10% ethanol blend) has become widely accepted and helped kickstart the ethanol industry, but in 2010 the EPA approved E15 for use in newer vehicles even though many automobile manufacturers claim its use can damage engines and void warranties, and no motorcycles or ATVs are currently approved to use the alcohol-laden fuel. Rep. Goodlatte has also introduced the RFS Elimination Act (H.R.1461), “which eliminates the RFS altogether and makes 38
ethanol compete in a free market.” Both the RFS Elimination Act and the RFS Reform Act have been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Meanwhile, on November 15, the EPA recommended reducing the total amount of ethanol required by the RFS to be blended into U.S. transportation fuel nationwide in 2014 from 18.15 billion gallons down to 15.21 bg, though the move to reduce the minimum volume of renewable fuel next year does not provide a permanent solution to the inflexible short-term mandates nor the long-term diversion of feed stocks to fuel. ROCHESTER, MINN ACCUSED OF DISCRIMINATING AGAINST BIKERS An attorney representing the Confederation of Clubs of Minnesota claims that Rochester bars and restaurants illegally deny access to people wearing clothing that displays affiliations to certain motorcycle clubs and that the Rochester Police Department advises the establishments to do so. In a letter dated October 31, 2013 to Rochester Police Chief Roger Peterson and City Attorney Terry Adkins, A.I.M. Attorney Michael M. Bader of St. Paul, MN states that by denying access to people displaying affiliations to these clubs, the establishments are violating Minnesota Statute 604.12. The statute, the first and only biker anti-discrimination law in the country, says that access cannot be denied to “a person who operates a motorcycle or is wearing clothing that displays the name of an organization or association,” unless the person’s behavior is endangering other people or property, or the person’s clothing “is obscene or includes the name or symbol of a criminal gang.” Bader’s letter states that he has been provided “irrefutable evidence” that Rochester restaurants and bars violate the law by practicing “discrimination” against members of motorcycle clubs, and told the Post-Bulletin newspaper that the evidence includes taped recordings of conversations with bar owners who say police advised them to deny access to people wearing jackets or other clothing with certain motorcycle club colors and insignias. “The reason given by police, as evidenced in recordings, is: ‘that these groups have a history of violence,’” but Minnesota Statute 609.229, which pertains to gang crime, requires a gang or club to have a “pattern of criminal activity” before establishments can deny access to its members. “Our suggestion would be for Chief Peterson to send a memo to all licensed clubs and restaurants in Rochester with a copy of Minn. Stat. 604.12, advising the license holders that discrimination upon dress alone violates the statute and makes each establishment liable for damages and attorney fees for each person who suffers the discrimination,” Bader wrote in his letter. Peterson told the paper he has no plans to send the type of memo Bader suggested because the police department is not violating any statute, saying it is well-known and well-established that the motorcycle clubs Bader represents have histories of violence in the Rochester area and the police department has advised bars and restaurants to deny access to people wearing any kind of gang colors or insignias, and that includes those of motorcycle clubs with violent histories. If Peterson refuses to do so, “the next step is litigation,” Bader said in a recent interview. “And then it would be incumbent

upon the city to prove this pattern of criminal activity.” According to Minnesota Statute 609.902, it requires at least three separate criminal acts within 10 years of the beginning of the criminal proceeding.
GLOBAL TIRE MARKET PROJECTED TO GROW, DRIVEN BY MOTORCYCLES The worldwide market for tires is projected to grow at a 5% annual rate for the period 2014-2015, and motorcycles will be a key driver. According to an industry report, the increasing demand for motorcycles positively influences the demand for tires and hence leads to the growth of the Global Tire market. The demand for motorcycles comes from developing and underdeveloped countries where the penetration rate of cars is low. Also, it is expected that the adoption of tubeless tires in the Global Motorcycle market will increase and will have a positive impact on the Global Tire market. 1 IN 4 DRIVERS ADMIT SURFING THE WEB WHILE BEHIND THE WHEEL Texting while driving used to be an offense identified with younger vehicle operators, but a new poll shows how it has spread to older drivers as well. The poll also found that one in four drivers are now accessing the Web while driving, yet another dangerous distraction, and the increase is driven by older drivers using smartphones. The number of drivers who report using their cell phones to access the Internet while behind the wheel continues to rise, to a point where nearly one of four drivers are going online while driving, according to a national survey that has tracked the potentially deadly practice over the past five years. There were also jumps in the percentages of people who read or respond to e-mail, and who read or update social media networks while driving, according to an article appearing on the front page of USA TODAY on Tuesday, November 12th. Insurer State Farm began asking drivers in 2009 whether they went online while driving. The percentage of drivers who said they do so has nearly doubled, from 13% in 2009 to 24% this year. Among drivers ages 18-29, that number rose from 29% to 49%. Most research on distracted driving -- and most laws against it -- has focused on texting while driving, which creates a crash risk 23 times greater than not doing so, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. But the rise in ownership of smartphones, which allow users to surf the Web, access social media and send and receive e-mail, means there are more opportunities than ever for driver distraction, and over the past three years the sharpest increases in smartphone ownership were among drivers 40 and over. For drivers ages 40-49, the percentage that owns smartphones rose from 47% in 2011 to 82% in 2013; for those 50-64, it went from 44% to 64%, and for those 65 and older, from 23% to 39%. Perhaps reflecting the nation’s sustained campaign against texting while driving, that problem is growing much more slowly than surfing the Web. The percentage of people who report texting while driving rose slightly over the past five THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
years, from 31% to 35% of all drivers. Among those 18-29, the number who report doing so has actually decreased, from 71% to 69%. Chris Mullen, State Farm’s director of technology research says, “We need to keep an eye on social media, reading e-mail, all these other functions folks can use. … That could be legislation, it could be enforcement, it could be education and awareness.”
DRIVERS WOULD OPT TO LOSE CONTROL A new survey finds that one in five Americans would never take the wheel again if a self-driving, or autonomous, car were available. CarInsurance.com asked 2,000 drivers whether they would buy an autonomous car if it meant they never had to drive again, and 20% of them said yes. That number soars if cheaper car insurance is part of the deal. While 1 in 5 licensed drivers surveyed said they would gladly turn over the keys and let computers do the driving, more than a third of those surveyed said an 80% discount on car insurance rates would make purchase of an autonomous vehicle “very likely,” and 90% of respondents said they would at least consider the idea. Cars that park themselves, navigate stop-and-go-traffic or avert an impending collision are already on U.S. roads today, and Nissan has promised to deliver a fully autonomous vehicle -one that allows a computer to assume control under the right conditions -- to showrooms by 2020. A fully automated vehicle that doesn’t need a human operator could someday follow. “Our survey shows cheaper insurance will greatly influence consumer acceptance,” said CarInsurance.com managing editor Des Toups. “Some of the liability of operating a car will doubtless be assumed by the manufacturer,” Toups said. “But a lot of the decrease in rates could come simply because there would be many fewer accidents.” Trust will be a big hurdle, the survey results show, as 64% said computers were not capable of the same quality of decisionmaking that human drivers exhibit, and 75% said they can drive a car better than a computer could. Asked what they would do with their additional free time, 26% responded that they’d text/ talk with friends, 21% would read, while 10% would sleep and 7% would work.
