It goes without saying that every month should be Veteran Appreciation Month. Whether you agree with the militaries actions or not, they are still the reason you even have the right to speak your mind in protest. Prisoners of Hope Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you. Zechariah 9:12 (NKJV) God is good. And He has a good plan for each of our lives. No matter what may be going on right now, God’s plan is unfolding. In the meantime, Romans 12:12 tells us to “rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying” (NLT). I think that’s good advice, especially in times when it feels like we’ve been waiting and waiting…and waiting for something to happen in our lives. Hope is vital in times like these and it will keep us looking ahead, anticipating, expecting whatever it is we’re hoping for. Over the years I’ve learned what it is to be a prison of hope, knowing that God has nothing but His best planned for me. He promised me things concerning my ministry and my life. And hope is what helped me hold on when it got hard. Anticipation! Well, if you don’t expect anything good to happen, then you won’t be disappointed when it doesn’t.” That was how I felt at times based on my feelings about past experiences. I had a very negative outlook on life, so I spoke negatively about it. As I grew in my relationship with God, I learned how to trust Him, how to stand on His Word, and how to stand my ground in prayer when it got tough. Jesus died for us to live an abundant, fulfilling life. Hope is the confident, favorable expectation of this life. Double for Your Trouble Now, I do realize there are many things that can happen to us that aren’t so enjoyable. And that can make it difficult to grasp the idea of enjoying life. So, think of it this way: What are you hoping for? What are you expecting in life? What are you looking forward to? Focus on that. My negative outlook was due to my attitude about all the bad things that had happened in my life. those on death row and lifers with no chance of parole. The Bacon Family moved to Fairmont, WV in 1991 to where Gordon was an interim pastor for The Church of Living Waters Jesus Outreach.

Gordon and his family, his wife Debbie, Son Gordon “Gordy” Jr, Christina and Janine first started out in ministry in New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation in January of 1983. Gordon and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1986 and continued their work with the Navajo from there. During their stay in Arizona The Bacon Family Ministry attended Sweetwater Church of The Valley under Pastor Glenn Foster. Gordon Bacon also was both a student and an instructor at Sweetwater Bible College. While living in Phoenix, AZ the ministry with the Navajo continued along with adding Prison ministry in Florence, AZ at Florence Maximum Security Prison to 4

my past, so I didn’t believe anything good would happen in my future. Because of all of the negative things that had happened, I was programmed to believe that negative things would always happen. I lost hope. Well, God was there and He knew that. But over time He kept loving me and dealing with me, promising me what Isaiah 61:7 says: “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours” (NIV). That’s a promise for us all…a promise of double for your trouble! Double the blessing…double the joy…double the peace! Hallelujah! Now doesn’t that inspire hope in your heart? Of course, this double-blessing promise isn’t for the doubleminded. When you walk it out in everyday life, there will be times when doubt, fear, unbelief and weariness will come against you. It’s in these times you will need to fight a good fight of faith. You will need to guard your mind against negativity about your situation. I encourage you to find out what God says about it and then stand on the promises in His Word. The Bible tells of many times when people encountered Jesus and He touched their lives, they wanted to stay with Him and follow Him…understandably so. But He sent them home-back to everyday life-to live out and share with others what He’d done. They had to hold on to what He had done for them. In the same way, we must hold on to whatever He promises us and be confident that He is working in our situation. Hope releases the power of the Holy Spirit in these times. Hope, I want to encourage you to make a decision to develop an attitude of hope in your life. Speak positive things about your future and refuse to be negative. You may not always feel hopeful but don’t give in to your feelings. Giving in to bad feelings feeds and empowers them. But standing our ground and not giving in to negative feelings starves them and causes them to lose their power over us. Just ask the Holy Spirit to lead you. Line your will up with His and get excited about serving God. You could even be one who inspires others to become prisoners of hope!

couple weeks ago my husband and I attended the Motorcycle Riders Foundations Meeting of The Minds in Columbus, OH. This is an annual conference/seminar that is held to inform the MRF reps and motorcyclists all over the country as to what is happening motorcycle related accross the country and world. Motorcyclists from approximately 38 states attended. Maryland was represented by myself, my husband who is the state MRF rep and another ABATE member. There was so much information obtained from this conference that I cannot address it all here. I will hit the high points. During the afternoons we were broken down into breakout sessions and in the mornings we all attended a general session. Here are some of the things that really stood out. HR875 - Ethanol. E15 was again addressed and the dangers to small engines with motorcycles included in that. This bill will ask for better labeling and new pumps. Asking for more research to be done before sales. E15 will kill your small engines. The warranty on your motorcycle is voided if it is used in your bike. HR2414 - Black Box Bill - Data recorders are on 2014 Harleys. Question is who owns the data. HR2414 would make the vehicle owner the owner of the data. There are 37 bills with the word gang in them. None directly concerning motorcyclists. We will continue to monitor this. The right to repair bill is pretty much dead. This means all shops will have access to the computer graphics needed to repair. May 15th will be MRF’s Bikers

Inside the Beltway. This is where motorcylists from all over the country converge on DC and lobby in the capitol. It is a time for us all to be heard. More info will be given as soon as a flier is out. NHTSA crash study was a huge flop. NTSB now has helmets completely off their list. We are watching Obama care closely. Will this be a back door to a national helmet law? We will watch and see. MRF is monitoring it closely. We discussed causes of fatal accidents. We were surprised to see the stats from this compilation. Here are some of the causes/contributing factors: Alcohol related motorcylist impaired, no motorcycle license, no motorcycle safety course, speed, ran off road, ROW violations (motorcyclist violated right of way), time of day, panic stop, rear breaking only, crossed center line, lost control on ramp, failure to judge stopping distance, age group, medical condition, road conditions, tire debris, motorcycle equipment. Motorcyclists would like to think it is the cars fault due to righ of way violations, but according to statistics that is not so. Motorcyclists are at fault also. We must be responsible/safe riders. There is no excuse to ride impaired or without a motorycle license/endorsement. ABATE of Maryland is in the process of gathering the statistics on fatal motorcycle crashes for 2012 so we can study the root causes and address them. This is our job. This is what we do. Modern Day Patriots P

atriot is a word that is thrown around a lot these days. I went to Wikipedia and found their definition. A Patriot by definition is a person that feels a strong support for his or her country. The groups of people that I have had the privilege to ride with numerous times qualify as the finest example of patriots that I know. I am talking about the men and women who ride year round as Patriot Guards at Arlington National Cemetery. During the fighting in Iraq I started to feel like I wasn’t doing enough to support our men and women that were doing so much for me. That is when had heard about the Patriot Guard from the news and their battles with the church family from the Midwest that I refuse to mention in this article. I looked into the PGR and found out it was free to join and they would send me info on when they needed help. The two basic principals the PGR stand for are showing RESPECT to the fallen, the family and the community. The other one is to shield the family and the service from any outside interruptions. After joining I received an email pretty fast about a burial at Arlington (ANC). I had no idea the impact answering this email was going to have on my life. I called my buddy Shane and asked if he wanted to ride with me. He had joined the PGR with me and so we were off the next day to the USMC Iwo Jima Memorial. We found out later that most missions originated here at Iwo Jima. The tough part was we needed to be there at 9:00a.m. With the well know traffic issues in this area we decided we should leave at 6:00a.m. We ended up getting to the memorial around 7:30. We won! We were the first to arrive. What we really were was a rookie. Over the years we have learned back roads and tricks to get their like all the other PGR members. The PGR Captain showed up about 8:30 and a few other riders came trickling in. Once the riders were in, the captain started the pre ride meeting and asked if there were any first timers. We raised our hands and they all

welcomed us and shook our hands. The Captain said as is tradition in the PGR we give our first timers a pin. I still have it and it is in my house safely put away. As the days go by and I think of all the fallen and their families, this little pin has come to mean so much to me. He explained how we would ride and what would happen during the service. I’m not sure if I have the capabilities or writing skills to transfer my feelings of the rest of that day and the other many rides to ANC but I will try. We got our bikes and lined up and headed out of IWO JIMA. This is when time started to stand still a little. I remember the tourists at IWO JIMA and the few busloads that were there stopped and suddenly we were the focus of their attention and cameras. We left and within a couple of turns we turn on the main road that leads to the big white gates at ANC. Everyone was taking pictures and pointing at us as we drive into the gates that none of them could drive thru. We continue on to the Administration buildings were the Captain goes in and finds out where the grave site is. Few minutes later, he comes back and informs us that we will be heading to section 60. Unfortunately, section 60 and I will get to know each other very

well over the next few years. Once we pull up to the site and walk very fast over to a spot across the street from the grave and opposite from the USMC honor guard; that are waiting with us. Everyone stands in a line while the family and the hearse arrive. It takes a few minutes before everyone gets into place. The honor guard starts to move and someone calls us to attention. The honor guard carries the Flag draped coffin across the hill to the gravesite. We go back to standing at ease until the playing of Taps and they give the flag to the family. Friends and family start to leave as we continue to stand in line until the soldiers Mom and family walk toward us. We again salute and wait for them to get in the car. That’s when Mom begins to walk toward us. I’m on the end of the line and she comes up to me and says “I couldn’t leave without saying

Thank You to all of you. It means so much to us that you would come out and honor our son. We will never forget any of you.” Then she hugged each one of us as only a Mom can hug. One of those hugs that hug you to the soul. We stood and saluted as they drove away and then broke up and headed to the bikes. Shane and I didn’t say much. We just looked at each other through tears and tried to smile. The PGR always comes into ANC together and they leave together. We did and then we went home. The only thing that’s tough about riding with this group is I only see them at ANC. They are true PATRIOTS in every sense of the word. They ride in summer in 100+ degrees; they ride in rain, snow and freezing temperatures. I know that there are PGR across the country and I’m not trying to say that the guys that ride to ANC are better than any other. I’m just saying that over the last few years the missions to ANC haven’t stopped. While most of us work or vacation or do whatever these guys still ride to ANC and make sure the next MOM knows they are not alone. Over the years now I haven’t been able to ride as much as I

have wanted to ANC. Now with the magazine it will probably be less time I get to ride to ANC. The numerous missions I have been on have touched me deeply. I see both the fallen and their families’ faces. I pray for them daily and the PGR. I would hope all the riders in this Country would join the PGR. It’s free and they only ask for respect to the fallen. I don’t understand how anyone wouldn’t want to join. For all the commuters that cut us off when we’re on our way to ANC we ask for your patience. How do you recognize us? Look for the Bikes with the big Flags. In closing I didn’t mention names because they don’t do this for recognition and I didn’t want to leave someone out. I will shout out to Bruce, Rock, Stacey, and of course Walle THANK YOU for always showing up. It’s an Honor to call you Brothers. Two women friends had gone for a girl’s night out to a quaint Pub in the neighborhood. Both were very faithful and loving wives, however they had gotten over-enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers. Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee, so they stopped in the cemetery. One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her panties and use them. Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them. She was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with the ribbon. After the girls finished their “pee break” they staggered home, laughing all the way. The next day one of the woman’s husband was concerned that his normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed hung over at noon, so he phoned the other husband and said: “These girl nights have got to stop! I’m starting to suspect the worst. My wife came home with no panties!!’ That’s nothing’ said the other husband, ‘Mine came back with a card stuck to her ass that said..... ‘From all the guys at Fire Station 727. A woman went to the doctor’s office and was seen by one of the new young doctors. After about four minutes in the examination room, she started screaming and ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was, and she told him her story. After listening, he told her to sit down and relax in another room. The older doctor marched down the hallway to the back where the first doctor was and demanded, “What’s the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?” The new doctor continued to write on his clipboard and, without looking up, said, “Does she still have the hiccups?” A woman was leaving to visit her sick sister and told her husband she wanted thier house cleaned spic and span when she returned. She retuned home about a week later and her hubby Jeb and his best buddy Merle had a case of beer bout’ knocked out. “Go look and see darlin’, the house is cleaner than a cat’s ass”. The woman came out, holding a cat with a big clump of s**t hanging from its’ butt and said; “It saddens me to say this cat’s ass wins.....paws down. 10

A father walks into a restaurant with his young son. He gives the young boy 3 nickels to play with to keep him occupied. Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face. The father realizes the boy has swallowed the nickels and starts slapping him on the back. The boy coughs up 2 of the nickels, but keeps choking. Looking at his son, the father is panicking, shouting for help. A well-dressed, attractive, and serious looking woman in a blue business suit is sitting at the coffee bar reading a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on it on the counter, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the restaurant. Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy’s testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the last nickel, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand. Releasing the boy’s testicles, the woman hands the nickel to the father and walks back to her seat at the coffee bar without saying a word. As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, “I’ve never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are you a doctor? “ “No,” the woman crisply replied, “I’m with the Internal Revenue Service.” The mother-in-law dropped in after shopping to find her son-in-law angry and hurriedly packing his suitcase. “What happened?” she asked anxiously. “What happened? I’ll tell you what happened. I sent an email to my wife --- your daughter --- telling her I was coming home a day early from my fishing trip. I got home ...and guess what I found? Your daughter, in bed with a naked guy! This is unforgiveable, the end of our marriage. I’m done. I’m leaving forever!” “Calm down, calm down!” said his mother-in-law. “There’s something very odd about that. It’s not like her to mess things up like this. There must be a simple explanation. I’ll go speak to her and find out what happened.” A few minutes later, the mother-in-law came back with a big smile and said, “I told you there must be a simple explanation - she didn’t never git your dang e mail is all.

I’m Kana, a Shepherd/Argentine Dogo mix, and I’ve had a pretty busy history with BHS... originally they took me from another shelter who had no room and it was not safe for me there anymore...so, I went into a foster home and they had me for at least 2.5 years...in that home they had other dogs but we were kept separate. I am an extremely sweet dog with people and I love rolling over to get belly rubs!! If you have children bring them with you! We can see if I roll over for them!! I like rope toys and nylabones, but what I crave the most is attention. That is the best type of medicine for a shelter dog like me. I am not used to being in the shelter since I spent time in foster care and another home for 3.5 years and really am unhappy not being in a home with a family!!! SITTING WITH A HERO

t was a warm sunny day, so I decided to ride to my favorite bar for some buffalo wings and beer. I was happy to see Erin working. Her charming smile always cheers me up. I started a conversation with a very nice, older gentleman sitting next to me who introduced himself as Les. After a couple of beers, he got up to leave and grabbed his helmet. “You Ride?” I had to ask. “I’ve been riding most of my life, and at 74, I still love riding my Sportster,” he replied. “You should meet my riding partner, Ed Cockerham. He flew a B-24 during World War II and has been riding ever since leaving the service. He is now 94 years old.” I had to meet this guy, so I made arrangements to meet Ed at his house the following day. I was greeted at the door by Ed’s son, Kent, who invited me in to have a seat at the bar. They had already gathered up pictures of their many rides and several pictures from his military days. Ed told me he had been riding since his son, who was a member of the Goddard Motorcycle Club, first introduced him to it. He has since ridden well over 200,000 miles to such places as Seattle, Los Angeles, Key West, and Canada. At one point in Canada he stopped to check his map and discovered he was over 3000 miles from home. He contributes his health to exercising and riding, and claims his three favorite things to do are flying, riding, and sex, in that order. He talked about how much riding reminded him of his years flying a bomber; the way you lean into turns and crank up the speed when needed. One of his favorite rides is west to the Blue Ridge Mountains. There he sets up a tent in a bikers-only campsite and rides all through the mountains. It’s these times he claims, that all his worries are behind him and there’s nothing but the wind and the road ahead. Last December, 18

Ed suffered a stroke and has been unable to ride since, but says he will ride again on December 27th, his 95th birthday, and at that time, decide whether he can continue riding or not. He joined the service as a citizen soldier. Once he received his training and flew 35 missions as a bomber pilot, he got out of the service but stayed in the reserves. When the Korean War began, he was called back into active duty as an air traffic control trainer and flight instructor. He fondly spoke about his young navigator, Lieutenant Edward J. Degnan. By chance, Edward was called to another plane which needed a navigator for its mission. The mission was completed, but the plane got shot up pretty badly. So, the plane and its crew made it back to base, but when circling to land, plummeted to earth killing everyone on board. Edward J. Degnan lost his life serving his country at twenty years old. Fifty percent of the men who served on the 464 Bomb Group 779th Squadron gave their life for their country. At the end of WWII there were 16 million veterans, today there are only 1.6 million left, and that gets smaller every day. Ed claims, with a smile on his face, he will be the last living veteran of WWII. Returning from a mission, Ed recalls flying at 20,000 feet where it was necessary to wear an oxygen mask. He, as the pilot, was to check on everybody every fifteen minutes to ensure that they all were ok. This particular check, no one responded. He could see the flight engineer in the top turret, and he asked him to go back and check on everyone. The flight engineer grabbed an oxygen bottle and headed toward the back of the plane. On his way, he dropped his bottle. Not having heard back from him, Ed turned to see him kneeling on the catwalk, shoulder resting against a beam supporting the bombs, and right in front of the open bomb, bay doors. Without a parachute, one wrong move

would have been his last. Ed then sent the radioman back to help out. Meantime he lowered the plane down to 8,000 feet flying over Yugoslavia. The crew began to come to as the fresh oxygen entered. As the plane lowered, they came across a gun battery on the railroad tracks below when gun shots were fired at them. One shot hit the left rudder causing the plane to continue making a large circle over and over again. Each time the plane flew over the battery, shots were fired. After the fourth pass, they began to resemble at target at a carnival shooting gallery. The crew prepared to abandon the plane as shots continued to whiz by until, all of the sudden, the plane regained control, and they flew on home. I could have talked to Ed all day. I loved his stories and the way he told them. The one thing he said that stood out the most described the differences between the wars of today and WWII. When he fought in WWII, everyone in the United States did their part to help. They rationed meat and gas. They held community meetings where the women would give their jewelry to be melted down and used for parts. People looked up to the soldiers as heroes. Everybody worked together to make the United States the strongest nation on the planet. We are sorely missing this kind of commitment today. Strength comes in numbers. If we can all work together, we will not only be helping ourselves, but each other. God bless the United States and the men and women who fight, and have fought to keep it free. he Curivari Cafe series is another strong addition to a string of Nicaraguan releases that attempt to capture the experience of a Cuban cigar.

As I’ve mentioned before, the “What do you have that’s like a Cuban?” question is a common one in the shop, and it’s a hard one to answer. I’m a firm believer... that cigars should be judged on their own terms, and not held up to some mythic ideal. And while I can’t say the Curivari Cafe will fit in with your ideal of a Cuban cigar, I can say that they succeed on their own terms of providing a medium bodied, subtle and complex flavor with superb construction. The Cuban seed Criollo wrapper is smooth and silky, and certainly brings to mind the feel of classic Cohibas. The light and initial burns are smooth, and consistent. The initial draws reveal a vegetal and woody character that gives way to a slight spiciness on the finish. The flavors open up more about halfway through the cigar, and remain well-balanced and interesting throughout, with an earthy undertone emerging as the woodiness starts to fade away. The spice becomes more pronounced in the last third of the smoke, but never becomes harsh or overpowering. The burn remains consistent throughout, and the ash holds together very well, only giving way after half the cigar has been smoked. This is definitely one of the most consistent and well-constructed cigars I have smoked recently. This review is based on the Cafe 52, which I would call a small corona size; there is also a Petit Cafe size, which would be perfect for a 25 minute smoke, and a larger Cafe 60, which satisfies those looking for a larger Ring Gauge.

THE PLJ FOUNDATION By Blueiz and Tractor

The PLJ Foundation was started 10 years ago by Abate Member Gregg Hunter, who found the need for the foundation when a very close friend and motorcycle enthusiast from West Virginia passed away leaving behind 3 young children without a father. Since then Gregg lost his nephew, leaving 2 young children behind without their father as well. Abate ad the PLJ Foundation without hesitation added the nephew’s children to the cause. This year’s Poker Run began at PG County Abates meeting place at Grizzly’s and ended at Gregg Hunter’s house where he and his wife opened up their home and hosted an awesome after party. The poker run raised $1,000.00, enabling them to give each of the 5 children $200.00 for Christmas. It was a pleasure to be a part of this heart felt event, participating in the run, donating to their cause and meeting new brothers and sisters of the motorcycle community.

yatt Turner was born in 1989 in the small West Virginia town of Stony Bottom. Located on the Greenbrier River, in Pocahontas County, this small logging town, shaped the young man that Wyatt is, and as evidenced by Wyatt’s latest single, “You Remind Me of WV”, inspired the music that he writes. From his earliest middle school performances to participating in contests such as the Colgate Country Challenge, trying out for Nashville Star, making it to the second round of tryouts for American Idol, and most lately, being chosen for Season 3 of the Voice, Wyatt’s talent as a singer, songwriter and entertainer are apparent. Wyatt Turner possesses one of those instantclassic country voices. His natural charm, infectious sense of humor and effortless stage presence make him strikingly charismatic, especially for someone so young and relatively inexperienced in show business. “You Remind Me of WV” Wyatt’s current single has gone viral. With more than 100,000 views in less than 48 hours, the single has claimed the attention of fans, media, and politicians. Alan Jackson, Blake Shelton, and of course WV Native, Brad Paisley have all influenced Wyatt musically. While Wyatt still calls WV home, he has been busy in Nashville writing, co-writing and seeking out songs that showcase his style and talent. The You Tube release of the single, You Remind of WV, has brought Wyatt quickly to the national forefront of the country music industry and plans are underway for a national radio release of the single. went flying about forty feet in the air away from the bike. I was nearly killed in the accident. I broke my ribs, shoulder, some toes and had some gashes in my head. I lost a lot of blood. Luckily I made it through this. I think I was most upset about my bike. I still got it and I wanna repair it and get another one as well. I love motorcycles.

We went to Mountainfest 2013 this past summer and I was pleasantly surprised to find out Wyatt was there and going to sing this song. After he performed I had the chance to sit down and talk with him for awhile. Wyatt is one of those young men you root for in life. He was such a nice guy and kept calling me sir. I kept looking over my shoulder to see who he was talking to. He has been in Nashville recording his new cd and it is due out in October 2013. I hope things work out for him. I really like his music. One thing is for sure there are a whole bunch of us mountain folk that already are fans.

HB- Let’s talk about your song You Remind Me Of West Virginia. How did you come up with the idea for this?

HB- Do you or have you ride a bike? WT- The first bike I rode was a little Yamaha 80. I rode it til it died and then my Uncle gave me a Honda 750 Black Shadow in mint condition. Right before I was going to get my motorcycle license I did something stupid like all kids do. I went out riding with my cousin. He was riding a 4 wheeler and we went down a straight one lane road and he pulled out around me. We were going around 6570 M.P.H. and he decided to be funny and slam on his brakes and slide the 4 wheeler sideways. Well I couldn’t stop my bike on a dime and I hit him and NOVEMBER 2013

WT - I wanted to write a love song for a long time that compares the beauty of my home state of W.Va. Because, it’s got such a natural beauty. The inspiration came when I was driving home from Nashville and driving thru the mountains and I wanted to incorporate that with the love I have with my Fiancé. I was able to take the whole natural beauty aspect and compare those to her and it just kind of came together in my head and then on paper in the best way. It was phenomenal how it came about. I knew it was a good song but when I put the song up on line I never expected the response that it received. When I first put it up I was hoping maybe 100 people would see it .I had no idea that 130,000 people would see and like it with 50,000 on the first day. It’s just a song that speaks to me and two of the things that I cherish in my life. HB - Where do you see things going in the future for you? WT - I see a lot of great things I hope. Prior to November 2011, Mark Unkle (Bass Guitarist), Cheyenne Wilson (Guitarist) and Ed Emery (Drummer) were already playing in a band. They brought on a roadie named Thomas Bowles to sing part-time. Thomas had great ambition and strived to learn the business of the band. He really wanted to be the ‘Front Face’ of what would soon become one of Southern Maryland’s favorite bands. The band all agreed that Thomas’s vocal skills well earned him that position. The band also soon realized it needed to change direction to match Thomas’s vocal abilities. Jimmy Thompson (Guitarist) was introduced to the band taking the band to a new level. Also joining the band was Daniel Emery for sound and lights. The group of five very talented musicians’ plays anything from high energy rock, from the 70’s to today and new country. That’s how this solid band became to be R & R Train. Established and hungry, they booked their first gig on January 28, 2012, at the Gridiron Grill in Callaway, Maryland. The Gridiron Grill was so impressed with the band they became sponsors and currently help with the management of the band. Not only has their fan base grown significantly, the band has picked up multiple other sponsors such as Budweiser, Defender Cycles, Custom Drywall and Island Music. One of the greatest highlights for the band was headlining the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department’s 4th of July Fireworks Show with over 10,000 in attendance. Also, avid supporters of the Southern Maryland Chapter of ABATE, R & R Train has performed for the Blessing of the Bikes and the 30th Anniversary Celebration in Cumberland, Maryland in 2013. They are currently on tap for 2014 for HVFD and ABATE events. R & R Train band members take great pride in entertaining and are notorious for their audience interaction and fan participation. Although the band has had great success and is very appreciative of their Southern Maryland roots and support, they are looking forward to broaden their horizon’s into other parts of Maryland, Virginia and the Carolina’s in 2014.
