Against Hope It was written of Abraham that “Against hope (Abraham) believed in hope” Roman 4:18. Have you ever felt this way? Maybe there is a hope or a dream that the Lord has given you that seems impossible of ever coming true; in fact, it feels “against hope.” This scripture is comforting because it teaches us that in the deepest despair of all impossibilities, there is still hope. Abraham, you see, wanted a son. God had given him a promise that he would have a son and that his descendants would be like the stars in the sky in number. But time went on and on and Abraham and his wife Sarah became very old. Abraham was near 100 years old and Sarah was about 90, and there was still no sign of God’s fufilled promise. Yet God had been working in Abraham during all the long years he waited, and He was teaching him to trust and rely on Him. When Jesus was asked “What must we do to do the work that God requires?” He gave this reply: “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” John 6:28-29NIV The word believe in this verse is translated in the original Greek to mean: to trust, to rely upon, to cleave to. It is the idea of putting faith in another outside of ourselves. It means trusting another’s strength and ability and not our own. Jesus is talking about having Gordon “Preacher” Bacon PO Box 1107 Leonardtown, MD. 20650 preacherrwm@yahoo.com Facebook; Rushing Wind Motorcycle Ministry 240 577 0605 Gordon and his family, his wife Debbie, Son Gordon “Gordy” Jr, Christina and Janine first started out in ministry in New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation in January of 1983. a simple child-like trust in Him. It is this same trust that Jesus calls us to when He says “Come unto me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 True trust always results in rest, for the burden is no longer on you, but on God. Do you have the weight of an impossible situation in your life? Do you have a vision that is all but snuffed out? Let go of the impossibilities of your own eyes and receive the grace to trust God for His possibilities. He truly is able to bring it to pass, for as He said to Abraham, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Genisis 18:14 God did indeed fulfill His promise, and in Abraham’s old age gave him a son named Isaac. Through Isaac, the entire Israelite nation came into being. God had begun to fulfill the word He spoke when He said to Abraham: “Look up at the heavens and count the stars - if indeed you can count them...so shall your offspring be.” Genisis15:5NIV Isaac, by the way, means laughter. God told Abraham to name his son laughter because the promise seemed so impossible that it literally made Abraham laugh. Do you have a promise that makes you laugh? Remember “With God, all things are possible.” Mark 10:27

-FEATURED MC-
The Iron Order Motorcycle Club (IOMC) was started by a few hardcore bikers on July 4th, 2004. It is fitting that the IOMC’s anniversary is celebrated on the same day as our great country’s Independence Day. Since our club is totally independent and beholden to none. Which allows us to create and follow our own destiny. Being that we are truly free from all other’s rules and protocols. These bikers, that formed the IOMC, came from different backgrounds and walks of life. They had a desire to share brotherhood and socialize together as a group of men sharing a like mindset, with an iron resolve. To have a club of their own under no one’s control or direction. That is how the IOMC was started and how it is today. This is the heritage of the IOMC we continue to build off of. We refuse to be dictated to by anyone as to who we have as members, where we can have chapters, what we can wear, where we can go, or what we can do.
eighteen (18) years of age or older, with a 650cc or higher cruiser style motorcycle (American or foreign), and who has exhibited good character is a candidate for entry into the Iron Order MC. We also have an affiliate motorcycle club for sport bike riders called the Iron Rockets Motorcycle Club. They are a mirror of the IOMC in every way with the exception of the style of motorcycle they ride. We consider them as our Brothers in everything we do. For further information on the Iron Rockets MC go to www.ironrocketsmc.net. During the course of our history we have learned many things about the MC world. We have always respected all other clubs and supported those that have supported us. We are independent and choose to mind our own business. We are pro-active in supporting our own Brothers. In doing this we have established a Scholarship Program for furthered education for our Brothers families, a Division of Legal Affairs, counseling support and various other programs to assist our Brothers in daily life.
The purpose of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club is to bring together men who have a common interest in motorcycle riding, promoting good fellowship, contributing to community charitable interests, and to spread good will. We are a law abiding and not for profit motorcycle club. Any man (regardless of race)

in Delaware we have helped the Home of the Brave Foundation, Delaware Food Bank, Odyssey of the Mind in Dover, DE and Pee Wee Football in Milford, DE. In Maryland we have helped the Angel Watch Shelter, Amelia›s Aces of Hearts Ride, Make-A-Wish, St. Jude Children›s Research Hospital, Santa on Wheels, Red Devil Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, Odyssey of the Mind and more. In Washington D.C. we have raised money for the Children›s National Medical Center. On a National level our Brothers have raised money to fight many forms of Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, juvenile and adult Diabetes, Leukemia, and others. As well as, raising money and volunteering to help children, veterans, the homeless and more with organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project, Cradles to Crayons, Hearts for Heroes, Indian Summer Camp for Kids with Cancer, Ronald McDonald House and many others. In addition, we also provide many meals for families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas across the country. As you can see we are bikers that help society and represent our countries founding principles proudly. We started that way, we continue to be that way, and we will always be that way. We run our club by the very same MC traditions established over 50 years ago by motorcycle clubs. We put family and job first, before the club. We want our members to succeed in life as a whole and take every effort to assist them. We are not 1%ers. We are not a HOG chapter or a riding club. We are an MC and we

take our commitment to each other very seriously. Standing together for what we believe to be true. We never look to instigate situations, but we will always stand up for our Constitutional Rights and never back down. We currently have Brothers in all 50 states. In spite of our large size we still have a strong brotherhood between all chapters. The IOMC is a man›s club, however we do have our proudest, and biggest supporters, the Iron Order Maidens. The Iron Order Maidens are the «better halves» of the Brothers of the IOMC… they are women that wish to be a part of the Iron Order Nation in support of their respective chapters. Again, this is a traditional MC, which means men only as fullpatch wearers. The Iron Order Maidens have a patch of their own, help with club events, charity work, help raise money, and gather together at parties to enjoy their Sisterhood. We are independent. Therefore, we do not belong to any associations. We have our own clubhouses. We have the same hang-around and probationary time period traditions that MC›s established many years ago. We treat our hang-arounds and probationary members with respect. Teaching them the ways of our club. While they earn the respect of our Brothers and get to know us.
efit our communities and we support our own. We are veterans, active duty military, construction workers, doctors, truck drivers, lawyers, cooks, businessmen, medical assistants, teachers, mechanics, various occupations of local, county, state and federal civil servants and any other occupation you can think of. We are about motorcycles, brotherhood and enjoying the biker lifestyle. In our own way, and by our own rules. In conclusion, we are what we say we are. Nothing more and nothing less. Like us or not. That is your opinion and we respect it. If you are law abiding, desire strong brotherhood and enjoy riding a motorcycle. Maybe we are for you. If you are looking for something other than what we stand for then we are not for you. It›s that simple. No matter your choice. We hope everyone stays safe. For further information check us out at www.ironordermc.com. Please take the time to look at our FAQ’s (Frequently asked questions) and Guestbook sections to be more informed about who we are.
Those who ride with us, party with us, or know us, know we are bikers. Some have chosen a different road because we do not waiver from our core values. We ride, party and mind our own business. A State Trooper was patrolling late at night off the main highway. At nearly midnight, he sees a couple in a car, in lovers’ lane, with the interior light brightly glowing. He carefully approaches the car to get a closer look. Then he sees a young man behind the wheel, reading a computer magazine. He immediately notices a young woman in the rear seat, filing her fingernails. Puzzled by this surprising situation, the trooper walks to the car and gently raps on the driver’s window. The young man lowers his window. ‘Uh, yes, Officer’? The trooper asks: ‘What are you doing?’ The young man says: ‘Well, Officer, I’m reading a magazine.’ Pointing towards the young woman in the back seat the trooper says: ‘And, her, what is she doing?’ The young man shrugs: ‘Sir, I believe she’s filing her fingernails.’ Now, the trooper is totally confused. A young couple, alone, in a car, at night in a lover’s lane and nothing inappropriate is happening! The trooper asks: ‘What’s your age, young man?’ The young man says: ‘I’m 22, sir.’ The trooper asks: ‘And her, what’s her age?’ The young man looks at his watch and replies: ‘She’ll be 18 in exactly 11 minutes.” 1. I had sex with Nookie Green twice last month.’ The priest told the sinner, ‘You are forgiven. Go out and say three Hail Mary’s. ’Soon thereafter, another Irish man entered the confessional. ‘Father, it has been two months since my last confession. I’ve had sex with Nookie Green twice a week for the past two months.’ This time, the priest questioned, ‘Who is this Nookie Green?’ ‘A new woman in the neighborhood,’ the sinner replied. Very well,’ sighed the priest. Go and say ten Hail Mary’s. At mass the next morning, as the priest prepared to deliver the sermon, a tall, voluptuous, drop-dead gorgeous redheaded woman entered the Sanctuary. The eyes of every man in the church fell upon her as she slowly sashayed up the aisle and sat down right in front of the priest. Her dress was green and very short, and she wore matching, shiny emerald-green shoes. The priest and the altar boy gasped as the woman in the green dress and matching emerald-green shoes sat with her legs spread slightly apart, but just enough to realize that one could see all the way to the junction of O my goodness and O my gosh! The priest turned to the altar boy and whispered, ‘Oh, sweet Lord, Is that Nookie Green?’ The bug-eyed altar boy couldn’t believe his ears, but managed to calmly reply, ‘No Father, I think it’s just a reflection from her shoes.”

Belle – Hi there. My name is Belle and this is my second time at BHS. I was adopted as a puppy, but my owner passed away and now I’m back looking for another forever home. I have lots of energy and am a very strong girl so hopefully you have energy enough for us to go on walks together. I also love to chew on nyla bones, play with stuffed animals and play tug of war!! I’ve lived with dogs, but since I don’t like every dog I meet, we can do dog intros to make sure that everyone gets along if you already have another dog. Because of my energy, it is suggested I go home with children who are at least 6 years old. My previous owner’s friend says said that I am a great love bug of a dog who enjoys attention. If you have an energetic household to keep up with me then please come and see me at BHS very soon.
animals, so if you have other pets the staff here can cat test me and will do a dog intro to make sure we all get along. I LOVE my food and don’t like being bothered when I eat. Who does? And sometimes, I have to admit, I don’t like sharing my toys. So I’d like to go to a home where the kids are at least 10 years old and will understand not to bother me at those times. I’d also love a home with lots of squeaky toys! They’re so much fun! If you are looking for a happy and energetic young lad like me, I am definitely your guy. Zoe - Hello. My name is Zoe and I was originally brought to BHS because of the health of my owner. I was adopted in March but brought back again due to some behavior issues and me not doing well with the child in the home. I am super sweet yet I may come across as “needy.” I really crave being around people even though I can be skittish if you make sudden movements. I’ll also need help from my new family with house-training because I was never fully potty trained. I’m most comfortable with older people so I’d like to be in a home with kids at least age 15. Because I seem to have some guarding issues it would be best that my new owner has owned and successfully cared for a small dog and understands “small dog” behavior issues. If you have another dog, we would do a dog intro to make sure everyone gets along. Cats or other types of small animals, however, are not my thing. If you are interested in meeting me please fill out an application 1st to start the process. I have so much love and affection to give; all I need is someone patient enough to work with me.
DustyHello there! Looking for a fun dog with a silly snort? If so, I’m your guy. I was originally brought in to BHS because a nice man found me tied outside the zoo. I was adopted, but then returned due to financial reasons. I LOVE to go on long walks in the woods. I also LOVE the hose and swimming; it’s my favorite! I’m sure when you see me in my kennel I’ll have a squeaky ball in my mouth and I may bark at you. But, take me out and see my TRUE personality!! I’m a total Baltimore Humane Society goof ball that also loves cuddling on a couch with my human... 1601 Nicodemus Road just watching some T.V. I can be a little scared of some men, but don’t let that discourage you from visiting with me. If you have Reisterstown, MD 21136 another dog, the staff here will schedule an introduction between T: 410-833-8848 | F: 410-833-4481 us to see if everyone gets along. If you are interested in me www.bmorehumane.org please fill out an application 1st. Please note that I need to live in an adult (age 18+) only household -- a low traffic home with Baltimore Humane Society: A no-kill shelter protecting, saving, and caring for animals since 1927! a fenced in yard (no electric fencing). Of course, I must never be left outside unsupervised and must never be off leash outside of my home or yard. After all, I wouldn’t want you to lose me. DodgerHello. My name is Dodger. Breed restrictions and poor health caused my owner to give me up. Then another adopter didn’t realize I had so much energy and brought me back again. I may be high energy, but I’m also a charmer -- everyone who meets me falls in love with me. I’ve never lived with other THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

made for television There seems to be a lot of talk regarding these new “Biker” television shows. Especially the programs that deal with Bikers like the Sons of Anarchy, the Devils Ride and now a new one called Warlocks Rising. I saw an article published online by Variety that reports “Discovery Revs Up with Real-Life Sons of Anarchy”. I almost pissed myself laughing so hard at that one. I think it’s interesting the fascination that the MC lifestyle had garnered so much attention in the past couple of years. Yuppies are going out and buying thirty thousand dollar motorcycles and running around wearing television show t-shirts. There are dozens of new “clubs” popping up all the time. It wasn’t long ago that most of these folks wouldn’t know one club for another, aside from what they have heard on the news when something goes down. It’s rare that you even hear about the true MC Clubs. Then there’s “Gangland” where the narrator has this voice tone like he’s telling a story of super important secret drama. I see dudes buying up Support Merchandise at bike shows because they think it’s “Cool”, having no clue that if they wear that t-shirt in the wrong town it could get their asses stomped by a rival club. Back in 08 I started Probating for an MC. This isn’t a “charity club” MC, it’s a Full 3 Piece MC with international membership. At that particular time I was pretty much the only person wearing an MC in the small town in which I reside. If there were any others I certainly never saw them with their patches on. I’d leave my friends on a Thursday night and have to attend our weekly “church” meetings. I’d leave the Ole Lady on weekends to go work the clubhouse or travel with the club. Most of my friends and acquaintances didn’t get it at the time. Many of those same people are now in an MC, or RC or something. Now they get it. This was before it was recently “popular” to be in an MC. If you’ve read my column you may have seen where my Old Man was in an MC when I was born. So I was exposed to much of the lifestyle since day one. There were years in between after Dad left the club where we didn’t have any interaction with Clubs, but something obviously called me home. Hell I even remember watching “CHIPS” on television as a kid, and my brother and I would go out and ride our bicycles side by side the way “Ponch & John” did it. LOL. So I understand the fascination with TV shows. But guys, come on, understand that these shows are a business. They are a profit generating investments by media companies to sell advertising. That’s it. Even the Gangland, which is filmed in a “Documentary” type setting, is exaggerated at the very least. Sure, there are former club members with their faces all blurred and voices changed either talking about snitching on their “Brothers”, or the undercover that lied his way into a club so he could try and ruin peoples lives. And yes, in most of those cases it is true. But television sensationalizes the MC world as a whole. That’s the allure to the common nobody with few friends and even fewer miles in the wind. Let me tell you something, yes it’s a lot of fun THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
for those who are privileged enough to be a part of this community, but it’s also a ton of work. It’s not all strippers, drugs and guns as television would have you believe. I never realized the sensationalism of television until I lived out in Los Angeles back in 93/94. I was there during the Earthquake in January of 1994. Sure, a few apartments fell down, and the bridges on the Santa Monica Freeway fell down, but the damage was really isolated to a few intersections and neighborhoods. But from watching the news coverage you would have thought the whole damn city was leveled, and everything was on fire and there were dead people everywhere. I had friends and family calling freaking out that I was living in this zombie apocalypse with looters and a “Mad Max” society. The worst that happened was I had to take the city streets to get to work downtown instead of the freeway. But the way the news crammed everything together it made it appear much worse than it actually was. Well, that’s exactly what the “Biker” TV shows do. It’s entertainment, pure and simple. Do you remember “The A-Team” from the seventies? The show that made “Mr. T” famous? Well that’s exactly what Sons of Anarchy reminds me of. The A-Team on Motorcycles. It’s interesting, it’s entertaining, but it rarely resembles much of what really goes on. And for the other two “Reality” shows, understand, they are scripted. I do see a few similarities with some of what’s on the shows and some procedures in the club life. I have two fellows here in my home town that I know who were just on that “Big Rig Bounty Hunters” show that aired on the History Channel. Vince and Shawn both told me that there’s obviously a lot that goes on when the cameras aren’t running to set up those scenes. I can tell you from personal experience, I don’t know of one club that would allow a television crew to follow them around and film their actions or even think about letting them into the sanctity of their clubhouse. We just had our anniversary party and had 17 other clubs in attendance, and there were very few pictures even taken. In fact even if our club decided to allow a TV Crew, we would be black balled from every other clubhouse for miles. Other clubs would not allow the TV crews to come with us to film their events, so it would get real boring watching the same guys sitting in the same clubhouse or going to the same bars week in and week out. It wouldn’t sell much detergent. I know a lot of MC Bikers that really take offense to seeing dudes wearing SOA t-shirts. Me personally, I don’t care. If anything I wish it was mandatory for Posers to wear brightly colored Pink T-shirts so they would be easier to spot. I don’t really consider it offensive, even though I served my time to earn my real patches. I consider it nothing more than wearing a Duck Dynasty t-shirt. I mean seriously, some “Bikers” are just made for television! As always, thanks for reading! Tabasco Tabasco.TRO@Gmail.com

What’s going on Tyler? How’s things? Everything is great! I have been super busy with work, putting in about 65 hours a week. And trying to ride as much as possible when I have some free time.
Who is sponsoring you in 2013? My Dad is my biggest sponsor, but I also couldn’t do it without the help of my other sponsors which include: RNB Racing, Orange Tattoo Company, Answer Racing, Deft Family, and all of my friends.
How’s this 2013 season going for you? The 2013 season has been going well. It is my first year in B class so I am still figuring it out, but last race I ended up with a 3rd and a 4th. So I am getting there!
Tell me about your company Limited Decal… Limited Decal was started about 3 years ago with the help of family and friends. And over time we have grown to be one of the top graphic companies in the country. We have customers worldwide and you also might see our stuff in a few video games!
You going to Loretta Lynn’s this year? I will not be attending Loretta’s this year. Honestly don’t have the speed yet! B class at Loretta’s is no joke. When did you first start riding? I started riding when I was 4, but was never into racing until I was about 16. Who inspired you to get into motocross? My father has been racing his whole life so I have been around motocross since I was a baby. What’s your favorite track and/or event to race? I would have to say Budds Creek is my favorite track. Nothing like it when it is groomed perfectly. What stands out to you as the most memorable moment in your racing career thus far? I don’t have one specific moment, but my last year in C class I was winning a bunch of motos. And it is always awesome sitting on the line knowing you are going to win. What kind of bike or bikes are you currently racing? Currently I am racing a 2012 RMZ250, 2011 RMZ450, and I just picked up a 2004 RM125 to have some fun on.
Do you only provide decal work for motocross? Nope! We dab into a little bit of everything but Moto is our core. But we are working on a few projects to get us into a few other industries. How could people get a hold of you for their decal needs? There are a few ways. You can email sales@limiteddecal.com or call 1-800-712-8889 and we will get you taken care of! www.limiteddecal.com And last but not least what kind of advice could you give a kid today that has interest in motocross? What advice for the parent? My advice for the parents and the kids would be to make sure you are always having fun. Never take it too seriously, at the end of the day very few people make a living off of racing motocross so if you aren’t having fun why are you out there? Just don’t lose focus and remember why you started riding in the first place. OH, and stay in school. Thanks so much Tyler for your time, good luck!

n a world of extreme custom motorcycle builders whom build everything from long raked out choppers to big bad wild baggers and yes even crazy crotch rockets, who in their right mind would even thinking of having a HarleyDavidson with cartoon characters painted all over it ? Well, Thunder Roads Magazine came across such a guy who just happens to be the General Manager at All American Harley-Davidson in Hughesville, Maryland. Steve (Smurf) Keene is quite an interesting guy. Not the typical hard core looking biker but never less he has been riding motorcycles for over 40 years. Like most of seasoned Harley-Davidson riders, Smurf has owned most every make of motorcycle made. You name it he has owned that brand before or ridden it. Let’s give you some background on this Smurf guy. In Steve’s younger days he worked for a local grocery store as a produce manager and since he was working with wet vegetables and fruits his hands would crack and bleed and they were rough and his young daughters would wince whenever he would pick them up. So, he started wearing those Playtex blue gloves to keep his hands in good condition. So one day when the store was having an inspection from their district manager, the

backroom floor was freshly mopped and waxed, and Steve happened to not notice the shiny floor and walked across it on his way to the compactor messing up the floor. The receiving clerk that had just done all that hard work went ballistic and yelled at Steve not knowing the intercom system was on and he screamed out, look here you Papa Smurf Look-A-Like %^$%^#$ you ruined my floor ! Well the whole store heard it, laughed like crazy and started calling him Smurf. The name just stuck with him and in fact many people in the community only know him as Smurf. Now, back to the Smurf themed Harley. Steve (Smurf) bought a Heritage Softail Classic in 2004 and was making it his own like so many Harley owners do, customizing it with chrome and other accessories. He made a friend at the All American Harley Davidson Dealership (John Specht) and he had just bought his 2005 Electra Glide Classic. They started going to motorcycle shows put on by the one and only Boston Nichols (Wild Turkey Man) and they were amazed by his motorcycle and the paint schemes on all of the bikes at the shows and decided that they would start the process on their motorcycles. Since John really liked white tigers, he decided to go with a more gothic look with the tigers and Smurf AUGUST 2013

second day in Sturgis the group decided to ride out and check out Mt. Rushmore and other places of interest. Before the day of riding, they decided to stop into a local gas station to top off and be on their way. In case you have not been to Sturgis, there are motorcycles everywhere, and there were lines at every gas pump with bikers trying to fuel up for the day. They topped off the bike and pulled off to the side of the building to wait for our friends staying on the bike with the engine off and resting on its kickstand. He was in amazement at all of the bikes that were rolling down the highway like ants and saw a cool chopper and said hey Tina, look at that ! All he heard was her yell oh my God!!! And then he felt them getting hit, Smurf flew over the handle bars and was in the air when he saw her rolling on the ground. After he realized they had been hit and almost run completely over, he tried to get up to see if she was ok. Not happening…Smurf’s left knee had taken the blunt force of the accident from his bumper and tore his ACM and MCL. All of the bikers that were on the premises there ran over to assist them and the idiot in the truck actually tried to take off! Several bikers detained him until the police got there and the rescue squad took Tina and Smurf off to the hospital. After the day in the ER, Tina and Smurf were released; she with only scratches and big bruises, him in a full leg brace and some much needed pain killers. There went their dream trip to Sturgis! Try seeing Sturgis on crutches and in four wheels (of which they had to rent), that really sucked! But like they say, good things always seem to come from bad situations…Smurf’s Friends gave up some of their riding to taxi me around and they took him to the Full Throttle Saloon where he was actually interviewed for the show! How cool is that!
started with some of the Smurf’s painted on his bike reflecting his hobbies such as a Smurf playing the drums (Steve is a drummer) A Smurf hunting with his dogs (Steve has Weimariners) etc. They started showing their bikes as they got more paint on them and the judges seemed to really like what they were doing. All was going well so Smurf and his fiancé at the time (Tina) planned a long awaited trip to the 70th anniversary of Sturgis. They planned with 8 friends and rode the 1700 plus miles to Sturgis without any big issues. Then, tragedy struck. On their THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
The insurance company was great about coming out to the resort where Smurf was staying and estimated the damage to the bike. To Smurf’s dismay, the value to fix all the damage and customization was over the bikes value. So, Smurf worked with the insurance company, All American Harley-Davidson and the painter that had painted the Smurf’s on his bike and 9 months later the bike was good as new (and had some more Smurf’s) on it. Smurf and Tina feel fortunate to have made it through the accident with their health and Smurf is so happy that his Smurf bike is better now than ever before. Smurf has continued to show his bike at every show he can enter it in and loves it when the kids see it and make comments about the Smurf’s. Smurf actually keeps his Smurf bike at the All American to show customers some of the cool ideas that they can incorporate on to their bikes. Smurf and Tina plan another trip to Sturgis in 2014 to complete what they started.

This Month’s Band of the Month is a Unique HARD CORE METAL BAND that comes with one hell of a Stage Show.
CHOPPER TRIKE REBELS
who have just recently played Local Injections Cinco De Metal Show at the Fish Head Cantina back in May which may have just been this year’s BEST METAL SHOW of the YEAR pulls up for load-in in such a fashion that one would think a band such as Slayer or Metallica were arriving heavily armed with enough equipment, instruments lights and smog to host their very own Metal Music Festival. The bands lead vocalist, MAZE dawning his long black trench coat and ghostly contacts appearing like Satin himself while standing upon homemade theatrical light system belting out the lyrics to VICTIM alone has one craving more from this band and excited to see what else they might have in store backed by the powerful guitar riffs of Andy Canter the bands most dedicated member speaks in volumes to you through his guitar strings. Chris Wellborn the bands bassist who acts as the conduit between this bands beat and melodic metal tempo along with drummer Mike Spiers banging the double bass like nobody’s business and filling some pretty big shoes of Dave Lemy the newest Guitarist, Alex Weglicki has stepped right up to the plate not missing a note. As local music lovers these guys are the reason that kept us coming back for more. Should Local Injection ever have the chance to take a show to a mobile stage for a music festival 36
you can rest assure that Chopper Trike Rebels will be coming along with us. Chopper Trike Rebels is a band on the verge of becoming one of the biggest metal bands known worldwide. If you seek excitement along with true original metal, check for them at a venue in your area or listen to them at www.reverbnation. com/choppertrikerebels you will certainly be in for a real Metal Treat. Now thats keeping it real and always 100% local.

So you’re a Maryland biker...
o you’re a Maryland biker. How much do you really know about your State? (Delaware your turn is coming). On one of those evenings when I have had a little too much shine I started thinking… (never good) , most of us ride all over the place and I really wonder how much we know about this place we call home. Don’t worry this will hurt a little while and then you can go back to looking at the pictures in the magazine. But in the future you will be able to say I know a little bout it and it won’t be a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Here we go bring your completed test to our booth at OC BIKEFEST and I will grade them for you. You ask what gives me the right to grade you it’s my column and I thought of it first. Now for a little warm-up. 1. Which State extends farther WestWest Virginia or Virginia? Virginia by 95 miles … that was a trick question lol
2. What is the only State without houseflies in the U.S.? Alaska …
Ok warm ups are over, now lets see if your smarter than a Hillbilly.
1. What is the Capital of Maryland and for a bonus point what was its original name? 2. What were the names of the two boats that first brought settlers to Maryland? 3. What was the first settlement in Maryland? 4. What was and where is the Mason-Dixon Line? 42
5. Our Maryland Flag is made from what design? 6. Where was the Star Spangled Banner written and under what circumstances? 7. Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner and what was his profession? 8. Where is the United States Naval Academy? 9. Where was the first school in the U.S. and what was its name? 10. Maryland has two nicknames. Can you name them? 11. What is the official sport of Maryland? 12. Who or what is Maryland named after? I guess this will do for now. If you get this right without using an electronic device please send me your info I’m voting for you to be the next Governor. If you need a hand with the 12 questions and you have someone in the family in 4th grade (not Bubba who’s 22 in 4th grade) get them to help .They study Maryland usually around 4th grade. Well next month we go back to the normal column and me drinking shine with someone and forgetting what we said and having to do the interview twice. Hope to see all of you at OC BIKEFEST come by and bring a jug it’s gonna be a GREAT time. Oh here are the answers I didn’t want you to cheat. 1. Annapolis and it was first called Providence. I know that was easy but there are a lot of you looking over your shoulder because you said Baltimore or Frostburg. 2. The Ark and the Dove. How many of you said Nina and Mayflower raise your hand? AUGUST 2013
3. St. Mary’s City also known as the seat of religious toleration in the new land. 4. Mason and Dixon were two British surveyors hired by the Penn and Calvert families to establish the boundary line for Maryland and Pennsylvania. 5. The Coat of Arms of Lord Baltimore. I hope he had another coat it gets chilly here in the winter. 6. During the War of 1812 aboard a British ship that was bombing Fort McHenry. 7. Francis Scott Key and he was a Maryland attorney. 8. Annapolis, M.D. Don’t laugh I once asked a high school camp counselor where was Pearl Harbor and I was stunned to find out it was a bar in Annapolis according to the student. 9. Annapolis, and the name of the school is King William’s school. Maryland also opened the first dental school at the U. of M.D. 10. The Old Line State and The Free State are its most common nicknames. Why, you ask? That’s another day my friend. Study hard. 11. Jousting. No not what you do on your Bike everyday on the way to work, real horses and knights and long poles. At least we got a cool sport. 12. Queen Henrietta Maria the wife of King Charles I. I think they messed up. Wouldn’t it have been better if they went with HENRYLAND instead? Then we could just call it HANK for short! Just saying. Talk to you next month. Remember always share with your friends and always, always lose the Lid. Keep Changing Lanes, — Hillbilly THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC

EFI MAINTENANCE
There are 2 schools of thought on EFI. Old schoolers generally mistrust it and youngsters swear by it. And then there are geezers like me who love it. Simple, easy to tune (but not cheap) and no maintenance. Well that’s only partly true. You have to take care of it. Fuel pressure does a pretty good job of keeping the injectors clean for a long time. However eventually they get dirty and quit doing the job well. To take care of your EFI equipped bike always use good gas. A busy station is a good start. They use a lot of fuel and it doesn’t sit in the tanks going bad. Today’s fuel is........well it’s crap. The ethanol (another column......) absorbs water which in itself is not a bad thing until it’s absorbed all it can. Then it separates out and sits. And that does ugly things to fuel systems. Using a fuel treatment occasionally is not a bad idea, just be sure it’s formulated for modern fuels. At 25K miles or so most bikes recommend fuel filter replacement. Don’t skip it the crap the ethanol removes from the inside of old gas tanks is captured by the filter and it clogs. So take care of that. There are 2 ways to service EFI. One is to remove the injectors, send them out to clean and flow balance. Second is to find a shop that has the equipment to service the system. Generally there a tank full of pressurized cleaner that takes the place of fuel. It is hooked up in place of the fuel tank, filled with the specialized cleaner, pressurized and regulated to the specific PSI for your bike. The bike is started and allowed to use all the solvent. This cleans the fuel line/ rail, regulator, injectors and the intake tract. Usually takes about an hour or so and the difference is noticeable. The crap accumulates slowly so you do not notice the decline in performance. The bike starts easier cold, idles smoother and generally runs better including a return to the fuel economy of a newer bike. That’s pretty much it. EFI is much easier to care for in the long run than carburetors. But when it needs it do it. And when you jump on the bike for a ride it’ll start and run like it should.
