What Does Christmas Mean To You? Too often during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season we forget the purpose of the holidays themselves. In the spirit of the season, we asked children: “What does Christmas mean to you?” Their answers were refreshing: “To celebrate Jesus and his birthday. Christmas is not about the presents, it is to worship your creator. Your real father.” - Mi’Kayla (10yrs old) “Being with your family and appreciating the good health and love you have.” - Liam (11yrs old) “Christmas is the time where everyone gets together and remembers the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. He is the Reason for the Season!” - John (14yrs old) “What does Christmas mean to mean to me? Well, I used to think it was all about presents, but now that I have gotten older I know that is not. It means spending time with people that you love and that love you back. It means waking up and enjoying a good meal with your family and loved ones, like friends. That’s what Christmas means to me.” - Carrie (18yrs old) “Christmas means to spend a lot of time with your family and friends. Christmas also means giving not receiving.” - Cheyenne (11yrs old) “It means to me that a Savior was born to die on the cross for us so that all our sins may be forgiven.” - Michelle “In the past our family has always given gifts and this was nice but as I’ve gotten older, I look back and think of how much time we have wasted on giving gifts. If you think about it, giving gifts is a substitute for talking to one another, learning about that family member you don’t see during the year except at Christmas. Giving gifts should be something from the heart – like making something. It shouldn’t be about worrying what to buy that uncle or cousin who has everything. If your family is like ours, we’ve gone to buying gift cards. That’s so silly. If I give you a gift card and in return you’ve given me one, what’s the point? Why can’t Christmas be about the birth of our Lord? What’s wrong with reading the story in the bible, singing Christmas songs and just spending time together?” - Ginny We can see that Christmas can mean many different things to many different families. SO, what does Christmas mean to you? THE BIRTH OF JESUS THE MESSIAH 18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened. His mother Mary was engaged to marry Joseph. But before they married, he learned that she was expecting a baby. (She was pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit.) 19 Mary’s husband, Joseph, was a good man. He did not want to cause her public disgrace, so he planned to divorce her secretly. 20 But after Joseph thought about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to accept Mary to be your wife. The baby inside her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son. You will name him Jesus.[b] Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.” Absence of faith in God does not mean cultural holiday celebration is necessarily lost. The lack of belief has little impact on the observance of Christmas (holiday) traditions for some. While they do not mark the birth of a religious figurehead or revel in the pagan rites that served as the foundations for modern-day Christmas, they treasure the familial sentiments and warm traditions this season brings. More than 13 million, or 6 percent, of Americans describe themselves as atheists or agnostics, and an additional 33 million people, or 14 percent, say they have no particular religious affiliation. That 20 percent of America is a large number, and that could be a reason why so many retailers replace “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Thunder Roads®MD-DE-DC-WV
Chanukah” with the politically correct phrases like, “Happy Holidays.” Today, references to Christmas seem to have more to do with the bottom line — “Save 50% through Christmas Eve” or “2-Day Shipping: Get It There by Christmas” — than wishing good cheer. The shift in retail marketing strategies over the last 20 years suggests corporations aren’t counting non-believers out of the biggest sales month of the year, and for good reason. Exchanging holiday gifts and merry is just as important to nonChristians, as it surely is to someone doing the same out of religious faith. Non-Christians agree the holiday season is a special time of year. After all, exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, and waiting for Santa Claus to arrive aren’t traditions bound in religion. “It is a whimsical time. As children many non-Christians thought ‘The First Noel’ was a pretty song, and they think it’s pretty now. However, (Christmas) is more of a cultural experience for them, rather than a religious one.” While holidays like Christmas and Chanukah are based on religious faith, the true meaning is not always as clear on a societal level. The meaning of the holidays is based in what some may consider very Christian ideology: Togetherness, rather than divisiveness, is the truest testament to the strength of family and a powerful statement of the meaning of Christmas, while others prefer the Holiday Season. “Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea during the time when Herod was king. After Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem. 2 They asked people, “Where is the child who has been born to be the king of the Jews? We saw the star that shows he was born. We saw it rise in the sky in the east and have come to worship him.” 3 When King Herod heard about this, it upset him as well as everyone else in Jerusalem. 4 Herod called a meeting of all the leading Jewish priests and teachers of the law. He asked them where the Messiah would be born. 5 They answered, “In the town of Bethlehem in Judea, just as the prophet wrote: 6 ‘Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are important among the rulers of Judah. Yes, a ruler will come from you, and that ruler will lead Israel, my people.’” 7 Then Herod had a private meeting with the wise men from the east. He learned from them the exact time they first saw the star. 8 Then he sent them to Bethlehem. He said, “Go and look carefully for the child. When you find him, come tell me. Then I can go worship him too.” 9 After the wise men heard the king, they left. They saw the same star they had seen in the east, and they followed it. The star went before them until it stopped above the place where the child was. 10 They were very happy and excited to see the star. 11 The wise men came to the house where the child was with his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened the boxes of gifts they had brought for him. They gave him treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 But God warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to Herod. So they went home to their own country a different way. The ABATE of Maryland, Inc. Legislative seminar went very well. We were able to set our agenda for the upcoming 2016 legislative session. ABATE will be working on helmet law modification for riders who are 21 years or older with two years of experience, or have passed an accredited motorcycle safety course. It will also cover a passenger who is at least 21 years of age and is riding with someone that meets the requirements. ABATE will also be working on strengthening the Right of Way Legislation that passed several years ago. We want to make sure that people are held accountable for their actions when they cause an accident for failure to yield the right of way. This will cover all accidents where a failure to yield the right of way occurs, not just those involving motorcycles. ABATE of Maryland, Inc. will also be working closely with the Maryland COC on the motorcycle profiling issue in Maryland. As always, we will be on the defensive for any issues that could be detrimental to motorcyclists in the State of Maryland. The 2016 Legislative session begins on Wednesday January 13th, and ends on Monday April 11th. Our first Lobby session is Monday, January 18th. We will meet at the ABATE office, 71 Franklin Street, Annapolis, MD at 5:30pm and will

walk over to the House and Senate buildings to lobby our legislators. We will be there every Monday night until the end of the session. If you have never been to Annapolis during the legislative session, then why don’t you join us on a Monday night and see what it is all about? This is what we do, let us introduce you to the business side of ABATE. Remember, ABATE of Maryland, Inc. works for every motorcyclist in the state of Maryland. It does not matter what kind of bike you ride, who you ride with, or even if you are a member of ABATE. DIARY OF A BIKER CHIC ‘Twas the day before winter, when out on the road, Not a motorcycle was roaring, not even a Low. My guardian bell was hung below with care; In hopes that my travels would be safe and fair. The cowards were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of warmer days danced in their heads; But I wasn’t waiting because summer wasn’t near; Excitedly, I got suited up in all of my heated gear. When out in the garage there arose such a crash, I ran outside in time to see a tiny little dash. Down the road it went, green and red, and oh so small; Wasn’t any taller than a Barbie doll! Behind me in the garage, my bike was on its side, And now I was ready to tan someone’s hide! I picked up my bike with all my strength and might, That little thing knocked my bike over – is that right? I fastened my helmet and started my bike, As my mother showed up on her brand new trike. Together we tore down the street with one goal – To try to find that colorful little troll. Quickly we found him shaking behind a tree He was crying and scared, for this we could see. He put his hands up and backed away from our approach Then blew a whistle like a basketball coach. To our left! To our right! From above and below – Tiny elves appeared and lined up in a row. Quickly we backed up, not believing our own eyes; Five of them stacked up until they reached our thighs. The one on top spoke in a munchkin-like voice; And very bravely told us that we had a choice. They worked for St. Nicholas and needed our wheels; Our motorcycles would help them a great deal. There had been an explosion up in the North Pole The toys had been scattered in every open hole. They split up and took over my bike and mom’s trike, And told us we could come along or take a hike. Not to be out done by tiny little elves, We decided to get on our bikes ourselves. To our amazement, our bikes lifted off the ground; As all the elves giggled while gathering around. The head Elf spoke up as he called out some names – Now, Tiny! Now, Jingles! Now Chippy! Time for fame! We took off in a dash in the cold winter air; Sucking up hidden toys until all was bare. We all flew to the North Pole with breeze and ease, Only to see St. Nicholas looking pleased. He told us that we helped save Christmas this year And because of us there would be no more fear. All the boys and girls would get their treats and toys To know that we helped brought us such warmth and joy! He gave our bikes permanent powers to fly Then told us it was time for us to say our goody-byes. We got suited back up and hugged our new found friends; As we wondered if this dream was coming to end. But I heard him exclaim, as we flew out of sight – “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a safe flight!”

ROAD CAPTAIN’S REPORT From the Park
O
ur midweek day off was calling for partly cloudy skies and perfect Beatles weather: high in the 60s. Unlike John, Paul, George and Ringo, our fix would come in the form of a concrete gravity dam constructed near the confluence of the New and Greenbrier Rivers, built in the 40s. The Chairman of the Board might have been a better artist to represent that era, but fueling up in Monterey, Rush’s “High Water” was prophetically shuffling on my Android, filling Blue Eye’s void. Normally, we don’t make runs this long unless we plan on staying the night. We haven’t had the luxury of two days off, so we looked forward to the challenge of riding nearly 300 miles on roads any kid with a bike ever dreamed of. The destination seemed very promising, with multiple vantage
points for pictures. The tripod was going to get a workout. Nauti, with fresh tires, brakes, and a new air filter, was really enjoying the cooler temps. Her growl at sevvv, I mean fifty five, was clearly a Pavarotti of baritone and bass. We approached a farmer in his field on Rt. 84, while twisting the throttle and achieving tenor-like resonance. He was all smiles, ear to ear, and gave us the thumbs up. Some David Gilmour was playing, but as good as he sounds in Royal Albert Hall, I think Nauti and the Alleghenys sounded just a tad better on this day. Rose and I were donning our heated gear. The warmth our garments provided was very comforting in the chilly spots when the temps were still rather Ratt Pack era. Much thanks to Lauren from Tourmaster for hooking me up with

the right connector to get my Gen 1 liner to work with the new controller. To anyone not wearing “The Juice”, it’s a game changer. Just after Lewisburg, we saw a trike. We waved like it was the first day of riding season, since we hadn’t seen any other “bikers” since we left. The Greenbrier River was coming into sight and we had great views since there were very few leaves left on the trees. Like many rivers, there were railroad tracks nearby, and this one had a train with its line of cars against the rocks of the hills behind. At this point, we didn’t really know exactly where we were at, but we knew we were close. And then it hit us when we saw it. “BAM!!!”, as Emeril would say. The dam was HUGE! We later learned it was 165 feet high, by 2048 feet wide, and completed in 1949. According to Wikipedia, the project was started in 1941, suspended in 1944 due to WWII, and continued in 1946. We could hear the world’s loudest jackhammer, boring holes to anchor it to bedrock, as part of its Dam Safety Assurance Program, or DSA. Not to be confused with the FDSA, this one includes installing anchors and thrust blocks to tie the dam into bedrock, spillway improvements and other work. The first phase of the project was completed in October 2004. The second phase was completed in 2011. Brayman.com has more on this for anyone seeking an engineering fix. We parked in a park by the river, along the bike path. No
one was using it, and it provided the clearest, unobstructed view of the dam for a photo. There were benches along the path and after setting up the tripod for some pics, we sat together watching birds land on the water. We could have sat there all day, but we had 140 more miles to get home, and there were more places to check out. We rode across the New and hung a left on Rt. 20 to the overlook right at the dam. There was really no where to get a clear shot, so we settled for one with some power lines free of trees and fences. Just being there and checking it out from a different perspective was really cool. We were able to walk out onto the dam a ways and see the river from upstream. It reminded me of the Little Tennessee River near Deal’s Gap, the way the mountains shored the water, only grander. We noticed a platform below, downstream, and hopped back on Nauti to check it out. We were really up close! The massive wall of water flowing down the spillway was right in front of us, exploding into the river below. We were on a fishing pier about 30 feet long, give or take, and it was all overhang. One could vividly sense the massive force, hundreds of millions of years, if not billions, less than a decade has managed to curb. It was simply spectacular and a fantastic place to witness man’s ingenuity. It was lunch time, so we coasted down to Kirk’s for some road food. It was right next to the river with plenty of windows and an outdoor seating area in the back. It hadn’t reached

British Invasion temps in the 60’s yet, so we decided to dine inside on a burger and barbecue. We had worked up an appetite and it provided the fuel we needed to get home. We incorporated a little of Rt. 64 on the ride back, just to make sure we got back before dark. Having had our fill of Hard Kromes at 80 in fifth gear, we bailed on 219 for 39 and Marlinton. The ride, descending through the twisties in these hills, is what many enthusiasts enjoy about piloting a motorcycle. The designers of this road were sinisterly brilliant, providing just enough banking in the apex to catch the bike, should one have the faith to dive in. It was a Home sweet home splendid, pendulum-like

ballet, until the cage, otherwise known as “Buzzkill”, clogged our performance. We made it home by 4:20, 285 miles later. Looking back, it all seemed like a blur. “Did we really just do all of that?” I asked myself. Running through all of the pictures and videos that were taken, brought me back, and I realized what an extraordinary day it was. We’ve been so many places and seen so many things, on two wheels, it has almost become commonplace. There is one thing that indeed separates this lifestyle from the ordinary, and that is the bike with its rejuvenating effects from adventure, exploration, and discovery. Closing the window, I glanced at the directories outlining all of the rides we’ve done the last few years, and I thought to myself, “We can all be heroes, and live the lives of legends in this short existence - or we can drive a cage.” Cheers and thanks for reading! On Saturday, October 24th, the Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club (IHMC) held their annual food drive at the All American Sports Bar in Glen Burnie, MD. The all-day event was a success, despite the chilly weather and the threat of rain. There was a steady flow of bikers, friends, and families from all over to fill the truck with non-perishable food. In addition to the food drive, there were vendors, a 50/50 raffle, drawings for a wheelbarrow of cheer and a trip to see the Ravens play. I also can’t forget to mention the beautiful ladies serving pit beef, pit turkey, and chili. The donations collected from the event, the raffle, and the food sales were spent on additional non-perishable items

and a few crates of chickens. All of these items were donated to the Baltimore Dream Center at the Pathway Church of God in Brooklyn, MD. TECH TIP:Buttoning Up the Bottom End
I

f you’ve made it this far Playas, this is the last installment of the Indian fly wheel/bottom end assembly. In this episode, we will be installing the shaft bearings and installing the fly wheels into the engine cases. Please enjoy the following colorful and informative pictures: Here we have the new left side case bearing. After you remove the bearing for the packaging it is important to clean the bearing, the race, and spacers to remove all containments and Kosmoline. For those of you that do not know what Kosmoline is, it is the brownish color, slimy, gooey, packing grease. It is very important to not mix the bearing and races. When they come in the packaging they will be placed with their mate.
at the proper depth which is completely bottomed out on the shaft. Installing this bearing without the use of this tool will undoubtedly damage the bearing and the shaft and cause the bearing to be misaligned. Don’t half ass it, professionals use their whole ass and spend the money on the proper tools for the job. Clean the pinion shaft and pinion shaft case bearing with your handy dandy acetone. If you have been paying attention Playas, you probably guessed our bottle of acetone is getting low. Never trust a mechanic with a one pint bottle of acetone. A good mechanic has 5 gallons of acetone on hand at all times. Coat the pinion shaft with assembly lube and install the pinion case bearing in the shaft. Always use a new retaining clip.
We will be installing the bearing onto the fly wheel shaft. It Is important to clean the shaft before installing the bearing with our good buddy acetone. Once the acetone has dissipated, install assembly lube onto the shaft and install bearing into the shaft. The smaller side of the bearing faces away from the fly wheel. The left side bearings must be installed with a sprocket shaft bearing installation tool as seen in the picture. The shaft is tapered which allows you to start the bearing installation on the shaft by hand. Then it is absolutely necessary to use the installation tool to install the bearing 36 DECEMBER 2015

It’s now time to install the sprocket shaft bearing races into the left case half. After cleaning the case thoroughly install the inner bearing race. Then install the race spacer/clip and the outer bearing race.
We use an old twin can cylinder to support the left case half and after heavily coating the fly wheel bearing on the sprocket side, slide fly wheel into left case half. Then with the cases having been previously cleaned, apply case sealer to the mating on the left case half. We recommend using Gasgacinch Gasket Sealer and Belt Dressing. Once the sealer has been applied, slide the right case half over the pinion shaft and bearing. It is imperative at this time to install all case studs and bolts with the proper amount of torque and torqueing pattern.
Once the cases have been properly torqued, install the left side sprocket shaft bearing spacer onto the shaft. After the spacer has been installed, which essentially is pushed in by hand into the inner bearing, install the remaining left side bearing. The bearing will be started by hand then will require the use of the shaft bearing installation tool used earlier.
The fly wheels will rotate while installing the remaining bearing to the left side shaft. There are tools available to hold the fly wheels in position. Necessity is the mother of invention Playas. We use an aluminum plate that we have notched for the connecting rod. This finally concludes the adventure of the Indian Power Plus 100 saga. Hopefully these articles do not discourage you from having involvement with these models of Indians. Unfortunately this particular engine needed a serious attitude adjustment. We were just the Pimps to lay that Pimp hand down Playas. This week’s question comes from Joe C. of Laurel, MD. Joe asks: “How often should I do a complete maintenance on my bike other than normal oil changes?” Thanks Playa for your question. Every 5,000 miles, your bike requires a compete service and every 2500 miles requires engine oil and filter changes. That is with Harley Davidson motorcycles and with the use of conventional fluids. There is no such thing as servicing your vehicle too much. Fluid changes are cheap insurances to ensure the longevity of your vehicle Playa. Feeling the Need, the Need for Speed
At this point in our journey, the Wright Brothers are making quite a name for themselves buzzing around the skies and Model T’s are rolling off Henry Ford’s assembly lines, but what is happening in the world of two wheels? The early 1900’s continued to bring changes to the motorcycle world. Once manufacturers had tackled the basic change-over from bicycle to motorcycle, the need to start improving took over. There was an aspect of the pre-war production era that was not included in last month’s installment which simply cannot be excluded from the evolution of these beloved machines - racing. The new sport of motorcycle racing began drawing large crowds bent on celebrating our piston powered future. With racing came an increased need for comfort, safety, and of course, speed. While numerous small companies throughout Europe were involved in the racing industry, many operated only a short time before ceasing production. One highly notable advancement that came from across the pond occurred in 1908: the development of telescopic pneumatic suspension systems. The new suspension designs made their way from England to the US, and the result was well received. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a ride that doesn’t end with your body aching and the famed “iron butt”? Meanwhile, in the states, motorcycle racing popularity was increasing by the minute. Early races were actually held on horse racing ovals or bicycle velodromes, but by 1909, construction of wooden tracks specifically designed for motorcycles began to appear. They called their tracks motordromes, and they were circuits of 1.25
miles constructed out of 2 x 2 and 4 x 4 lumber. They featured severely turned banks which allowed riders to reach speeds previously unseen in the motorcycle world. Crashes were frequent and horrific. Riders who went down faced being impaled by the wooden track, and they were often fatal. Despite the dangers of racing, people flocked to watch, and riders wanted to go faster. This need for speed resulted in demands for more powerful, versatile, and comfortable machines - and there just happened to be some American companies ready to satisfy that need. While Indian and Harley Davidson continued to keep up with the times and improve their production models, there were two other companies whose focus was simple: SPEED. I’m pretty sure these guys followed the motto, “If ya ain’t first, you’re last” (or maybe that was Ricky Bobby, but who the hell cares?) These people helped ensure that today, you can pass everyone in the hammer lane, give ’em the old one finger salute for slowing you down, and wear a smile while doing it. The Waltham Manufacturing Company was actually founded in 1893, but it wasn’t until 1903 that they would commence production of the famous “Orient Racing Bicycles.” These bikes were first introduced to the world at the Charles River Race Track in Boston, at what would come to be known as the first recorded motorcycle speed event in the United States. The Orient set a tack time of 7 minutes over a 5 mile course. Not bad for a first run, but exhibiting the primal need to go faster, to push the limits if you will, they went on to develop an improved 4 HP, 1,000 cc V-Twin that powered the Marsh-Metz before the company’s motorcycle division went belly-up in 1908. The other, more familiar, US name in motorcycle

racing was Excelsior Motor Company. Though the company operated overseas as well, the US division began operations in 1905. A Chicago based division, Excelsior’s first motorcycle was a 21 cubic inch, 344 cc 4stroke, single speed machine with a leather belt drive. It had a top speed of 35-40 mph. This first attempt would not suffice. Humor me, if you will, but at this point in my writing I am forced to take a small break and giggle at the scenario unfolding in my head: Four chimps in all their ginger glory standing around this bike. The first is smiling at his brilliant creation, awaiting praise from the others on a job well done. Chimps 2 and 3 pat him on the back and commence telling stories of the awesomeness that has just unfolded in front of them. But chimp 4 stands a bit apart, scratching his head (or whatever chimps scratch) and pondering. (Number 4, you see, he is the crazy one, the envelope pusher, the friend that always sees another option - the option that usually gets you all in trouble). The other 3 stop and stare at Number 4, and Number 1 of course has to ask what the problem is. Number 4 looks up, one eye making contact and the other trailing up and off to the left (as usual). He smiles as he raises his arms, lets out a loud and abrupt conglomeration of excited grunts, and begins flexing his throttle hand. Squealing and grunting commences, and they all begin exercising those throttle hands. So it begins: back to the drawing board, and so it was for Excelsior. There had to be a better way, a faster

way. By 1910, they had introduced an engine configuration which would later bring them fame, and continued to produce until 1929 the notable “X Series.” This engine was the V-Twin measuring 61 cubic inches (1,000 cc) and would become the first ever to hit the century mark. The “Model Big X” was the mainstay of Excelsior production, sporting an inlet-over-exhaust V-Twin, it was firstly belt driven, and later had 2 speed and 3 speed gearboxes. Production was limited in comparison to Indian and Harley, and many of these models were exported to Europe and Australia. This era brought about the evolution of spring frames, magneto ignitions, kick starts, spring mounted seats, improved tires, and heavier/sturdier frames to accommodate the larger engines. The motorcycle had become its own entity, no longer a bicycle with an engine, but a separate machine with its own technology. In late 1913 and early 1914, then its heyday, motorcycle production suddenly began to slow to a crawl: production turned its focus almost entirely to producing motorcycles for the military. By the outbreak of WWI in 1914, the motorcycle had rapidly progressed into a dependable, speedy, and relatively inexpensive means of transportation. CHRISTMAS PRIME RIB W/ HORSERADISH CREAM
Standing Beef Prime Roast; no Ribs Palmful of Thyme Palmful of Basil Palmful of Parsley
Mix all 3 in a small dish Take a jar of Dijon Mustard and rub it all over the Prime thoroughly. Now rub the 3 mix all over thoroughly and salt & pepper to taste. Roast in a pre-heated 500 degree oven. Place in a large roasting pan or one of the disposable heavy-duty foil pans. Roast apprx. 15 mins. until Prime is brown all over. Reduce oven temp to 350 degrees. Roast until a meat thermometer registers 110F for rare or 115F for medium-rare. Remember; the Prime wil continue to cook and the internal temp. will rise to the proper temp as it rests for 10 minutes, so do not overcook it. Remove Prime to a platter and just cover it with foil; don’t wrap or tuck it in. Pour a can of Beef Broth into your roasting pan and scrape the bottom for all the goody tidbits. Stir thoroughly until all combined. Strain through a mesh strainer and place in a gravy boat or glass bowl. If any fat rises to the top just skim off and throw away. For the Horseradish Cream Sauce: 3/4 cup of Heavy Cream, 1/4 cup of bottled Horseradish and 2 Tbls. Coarse Grain Mustard. Whip this all together until stiff. You can make this way ahead and just refrigerate and rewhip before serving. Slice up your Prime Rib in generous 1-1/2 pieces and pour the Au Jus all over nice and hot and place a big dollop of the Horseradish Cream in the middle of the Prime slice. Oh, baby....this hits you exactly in the right place. Perfection!

1 Can of GRANDS Biscuits cut into 4ths. Then, cut the 1/4ths in 4ths again. Add 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of cinnamon in a gallon zip-lock bag. Add pieces of biscuits. Shake until every single piece is totally covered really well.
Melt down 2 Sticks of Real Butter (salted kind) in a glass bowl in microwave (cover with Cling Wrap but poke a hole to vent) Add anothe 1/2 cup of brown sugar into melted butter. Put pieces of biscuits into a bundt cake pan and pour melted butter & brown sugar all over top. Smoosh down any pieces into mixture that are sticking up. Bake @ 350 mins. or until you see it’s golden brown. Put an oversized plate over top of cake pan and invert very fast and flip that baby and remove the pan and all those juices just flow all over the place. Just take your hands and pull from the cake and either put high quality vanilla ice cream over top or homemade whip cream. Hello!! Totally Audacious!
WHISKEY PEAR PUNCH
2 Ounces of Jack Daniel’s Whiskey 1/2 Ounce of Orange Liquer 2 Ounces of Pear Juice 1 Dash of Bitters 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg (dry spice is fine) Optional * Orange peel for garnish If you’re making for a large group, place all in a gallon glass punch bowl and just do the math to equal out to the number of guests you have. Since you won’t be able to shake each one individually, use a whisk and just gently whisk. Cut orange peel DO rim each champagne glass and then put a shaker of Nutmeg out so everyone can sprinkle on top. These are phenomenal ice-cold but also really good served warm for Tailgating or any get-together. Cheers!

TO DE-FUND MOTORCYCLE-ONLY CHECKPOINTS On November 5, the U.S. House of Representatives approved their version of the federal Highway Bill which, like the Senate companion measure, contains provisions of importance to motorcyclists, most notably the ban on federal funding of motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. In addition to curbing the controversial roadblocks, the House bill also authorizes a motorcycle crash prevention study; revives the federal Motorcycle Advisory Council; continues off-road trails funding; and makes highway safety grants more accessible. Approved by a bipartisan vote of 363-64, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015 (HR 3763) provides $325 billion in transportation funding over the next six years, corresponding to similar legislation passed by the U.S. Senate earlier this year. Unfortunately, the House highway bill does not include similar Senatorial language that would ban the U.S. DOT from lobbying local, state and federal governments on policy issues such as mandatory helmet laws, so it is important to contact your federal representatives to adopt such a compromise when the House and Senate convene a conference committee to iron out the details. WACO INFO One hundred seventy-seven people were arrested and held on million dollar bonds following the melee in Waco, Texas in May that left nine bikers dead and nearly twenty wounded, and on November 10th prosecutors announced 106 felony indictments charging defendants with engaging in organized criminal activity. “The Waco Grand Jury indictments on 106 individuals for engaging in organized crime are not convictions,” explains David “Double D” Devereaux of the Motorcycle Profiling Project (www.MotorcycleProfilingProject.com), “The Grand Jury only determines whether the prosecutor has sufficient evidence to indict. The Grand Jury only hears from the prosecutor, no defense attorneys are allowed, and does not make a determination on guilt.” “Double D”, who is also a member of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists’ Legislative Task Force (NCOM-LTF), says that as examining trials have made clear, the basis of the prosecutor’s argument in many of these case relies solely on an individual’s association with a motorcycle club that had members accused of committing a crime on May 17th. “These indictments
based solely on association, particularly the cases where 11/1/11 the 5:06 PM prosecutor admits that there is no evidence that the individual participated in any crime or violence, flies in the face of recent Federal Court precedent.” A U.S. District Court decision in Coles v. Carlini, 9/30/2015, relying on Supreme Court precedent, concluded that the government may not impose restrictions on an individual solely because of their membership in a MC, including a 1% club that the government labels as a gang or criminal organization. “The criminal activity of others does not justify denying rights and privileges solely because of association with an unpopular organization,” according to Devereaux. “Although I agree with many that are concerned about the seemingly broken Waco criminal justice system, recent Fed decisions seem to say that the underlying assumptions of an indictment based solely on association are unconstitutional,” said Devereaux in a prepared document titled “Understanding the Waco Grand Jury Indictments.” “The decision by the Waco Grand Jury comes as no surprise to many considering the obviously over-broad arrests, excessive bail, and unsuccessful challenges to probable cause during examining trials,” he concludes, adding that an overly-broad indictment affords the prosecution the ability to offer plea deals, shield themselves against lawsuits, and pressure defendants to testify. IDAHO MOTORCYCLE CLUB WINS SETTLEMENT OVER CLUBHOUSE RAID Ten members of the Brother Speed MC, along with the club itself, will be splitting a $16,500 payment from the United States government, to settle their lawsuit over a 2013 raid on their Nampa clubhouse that yielded no charges. The club and its members sued numerous federal agents and the United States, saying their civil rights were violated when federal agents serving a search warrant broke down the door, set off flash-bang grenades, and sent dozens of heavily armed SWAT team members into the small home. The club members were detained for up to three hours while agents forcibly removed their personal property, including their clothing, and confiscated club memorabilia, according to the club’s attorney, Craig Durham. “These were regular guys minding their own business that night,” Durham told The Spokesman-Review newspaper. “They were not a threat, and there was no call for the use of terrifying, military-style tactics to serve a simple search warrant.”

The government admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement, under which the club will receive $4,000, and the individual members will receive payments ranging from $500 to $2,500. “This was never about money,” said chapter president Daniel Bugli. “It was about standing up for our rights as citizens and members of this community. Law enforcement officers shouldn’t be able to run roughshod over people’s rights based on speculation and assumptions.” BIKERS’ LAWYER FILES CIVIL RIGHTS LAWSUIT AGAINST VEGAS POLICE A Nevada lawyer who represents motorcycle clubs has filed a federal civil rights, false arrest and negligence lawsuit against Las Vegas police after he was acquitted in March of a misdemeanor obstruction charge. Southern Nevada Confederation of Clubs (COC) attorney Stephen Stubbs alleges that a Las Vegas practice of harassing motorcycle club members led to his arrest in November 2013, and that being found not guilty by a local judge showed the arrest was improper. Stubbs told the Associated Press (AP) that he was prevented from representing a member of the Bikers for Christ motorcycle ministry who was being questioned by police, and who is a plaintiff in a recent lawsuit seeking at least $75,000 in damages from the department. Stubbs is representing members of biker groups, including the Mongols, Vagos, Stray Cats and Bandidos in a federal civil rights complaint filed in June 2012 alleging harassment by Las Vegas and other area police. The lawsuit is pending in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas. It was filed a day after a meeting of Mongols national leaders in Boulder City was monitored by hundreds of local and state police and federal agents. ANTI-PROFILING LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IN PENNSYLVANIA On November 13, 2015 Pennsylvania Senator John Wozniak (D-Johnstown) introduced Bipartisan Bill SB1058: An Act providing for motorcycle profiling prohibited, and the measure has been referred to Law and Justice. “No police officer or police department may engage in motorcycle profiling in this Commonwealth,” states the bill, and calls for police instruction on “what constitutes motorcycle profiling in patrol procedures and other police department operations and the duty to refrain from engaging in motorcycle profiling. As defined in this legislation, “motorcycle profiling” means “the use of the fact that an individual rides a motorcycle or wears clothes or possesses paraphernalia that a reasonable person associates with such individuals as a factor in a decision to stop and question, take enforcement action against, arrest or search the individual or motorcycle in violation of Federal or State law.” Such violations by law enforcement “may bring a private right of action in a court of competent jurisdiction against any police officer or police department that engages in motorcycle profiling in violation of this section. In the action, the victim may be awarded injunctive relief, actual damages, punitive damages and reasonable attorney fees and costs.” A companion measure, House Bill 1580, “prohibiting motorcycle profiling and establishing a private right of action” was introduced October 1st by Representative Garth Everett (R-Muncy) along with 46 bipartisan cosponsors and was referred to the House Judiciary committee.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY FUND PROVIDES SIGNLANGUAGE FOR DEAF RIDERS The National Motorcycle Safety Fund (NMSF), a 501(c)(3) charitable community organization created in 1980 to augment the work of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, has created a new grant program to help rider training sites cover the costs of hiring sign-language interpreters for deaf and hard of hearing students. MSF-recognized Rider Training Sites regularly receive requests to accommodate students with physical disabilities, so in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and state laws, the NMSF grants will help defray the cost of signlanguage interpreters. There are many deaf and hard of hearing car drivers and motorcyclists on the road today. To compensate, drivers and motorcyclists typically employ risk-reduction strategies such as Search/Evaluate/Execute (SEE), maintain longer following distances, make better use of peripheral vision, and check their mirrors more frequently. CALIFORNIA DMV OFFERS “VETERAN” DESIGNATION ON DRIVER LICENSES Veterans in California can begin applying to receive the word “VETERAN” on their driver’s license or identification (ID) card starting November 12, 2015. In accordance with the legislative language contained within Assembly Bill 935, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requires veterans to first obtain a Veteran Status Verification Form and to pay an additional one-time $5 designation fee to apply for the special Veteran designation.
