ULY! Been a busy year so far. We just got back from Laconia Bike week, where the Girls of Thunder made an incredible showing at the New Hampshire motor speedway. Look for pictures of the fashion shows and bikini bike wash on their Facebook page, you might even see some behind the scenes pictures of the girls having fun. Of course, we were there taking in some of the sights and riding around the lakes. If you’ve never been to Laconia, we strongly recommend you make the trip at least once. It’s the longest running bike week in the country, been running since 1923. This month, we are heading to Mountainfest in Morgantown, WV! “Take me home Country Roads” This is always a great event, and with headliners like WAR, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, and Mr. Bocephus himself, Hank Williams Jr., you can’t miss this event! Arrive a day early and take advantage of the long rides around the beautiful state of West Virginia!! axle. In 1885, Starleyʼs nephew John Kemp Starley invented the first ʻmodernʼ bicycle with two similar-sized wheels and a chain driving the rear wheel, essentially what we use today. Ariel was the first! By 1898, they were shoe-horning engines into things, their first attempt being a tricycle with a 2-1/4 horsepower di Dion engine. It took until 1902 for Ariel to build its first true motorcycle, using an engine purchased from an engine manufacturer, a very common practice among early motorcycle builders. In this case, the Kerry engine was very innovative for the era, with a new-for-thetimes magneto and a carburetor with a float.

Who was Jack Sangster? The Ariel Motorcycle Company, while never a stunning success itself, built a few memorable bikes, including the legendary Ariel Square Four, albeit it fairly low numbers. Theirs was a story like so many other classic British motorcycle makers, with one enormous difference: Jack Sangster. Sangster gained entry into the motorcycle industry through his father’s purchase of the ailing Ariel Cycle Co., climbed to the absolute peak of that industry, then ended up, perhaps more than any other single person, gutting it and setting it on the path to its ultimate failure. Hence, the following is as much a study of Ariel Motorcycles as it is an inditement of Sanger’s role in the demise of not just Ariel, but BSA, Triumph, and whatever was left standing of the British motorcycle industry by 1970. That same year, Ariel still a very small company, was taken over by Components Ltd., which was owned by Charles Sangster. He immediately set to building a 2-stroke motorcycle with a 3-speed gearbox which he named the ʻArieletteʼ. Production ceased with the outbreak of World War I, while Ariel produced munitions for His Majestyʼs Army. In 1918, Sangsterʼs son Jack took over management of the Ariel division of Components Ltd. and oversaw the introduction of a new bike using a White & Poppe 4-stroke engine that proved successful. He quickly expanded Arielʼs model lineup with bikes ranging in size from 586cc to 992cc, using outsourced engines. Starting in 1926, Ariel began designing and building its own engines. The younger Sangster had lured legendary engine designer Val Page away from JAP and the results were immediate. Page created two new engines, and one entire motorcycle by 1927. This basic engine design, introduced in the 1926-1930 Black Ariel was the basis for nearly every Ariel 4-stroke single-cylinder engine from then on. Their slogan around this time was ‘The Modern Motor Cycleʼ.
The Early Days at Ariel Like so many other classic British motorcycle companies of the era, Ariel started out as a bicycle manufacturer, or more precisely they built the wire-spoked wheels for bicycles under the first such patent issue in England, under the name Ariel Cycle Co. Established in England in 1870 by James Starley and William Hillman, they were soon building entire bicycles and sewing machines. But the bicycles of the era were the type with the huge front wheel and tiny back wheel, with the pedals on the front

In and Out of Trouble All during this time, parent-company Components Ltd was having financing troubles, including numerous spells of receivership from 1911 until 1932 when they finally went bankrupt and closed their doors. Jack Sangster seized upon the opportunity to buy Ariel Motorcycles at a bargain price from his
father’s receivers, renamed it Ariel Motors, built a new factory in Birmingham, and resumed production. By this time, he’d taken on another promising designer, Edward Turner, who had just come up with a radical new design for an OHC 4-cylinder bike that placed the four vertical cylinders in a square pattern, running on two parallel counter-rotating crankshafts, one in front of the other, that were geared together. The 500cc Ariel Square Four was introduced in 1931. The company went broke again, and wheeler-dealer Sangster reopened again under yet another name. Production resumed on the now-600cc Square Four. Constant overheating problems with the rear cylinders led to a complete redesign in 1937 into the OHV 995cc Model 4G Square Four.
Sangster buys Triumph for a Song In 1936, Triumph Motorcycles, also on hard times financially, in the midst of the Great Depression, went into receivership and Jack Sangster bought this legendary brand for a mere 50,000 pounds. Now he owned two motorcycle companies. He brought young Turner over from Ariel to help juice up Triumphʼs weak motorcycle lineup. Turner wasted no time, completely designing, producing and introducing the revolutionary 500 Speed Twin by 1937, as a 1938 model. It was a game-changer, the worldʼs first vertical twin of its type, and it set the pattern for nearly every British twin for the next 40 years.

The Ariel Red Hunter is Born Val Page had designed a new single-cylinder engine which was introduced in 1932 as the Ariel Red Hunter, a name and a bike that would stay in production until 1959. During this time, it was available as a 250, 350 and 500. They performed brilliantly and sold very well, becoming Arielʼs strongest product. The income derived from Red Hunter sales allowed Sangster to buy Triumph. Like everyone else, Ariel ceased civilian production with the outbreak of World War II, while building boatloads of W/NG 350 military bikes, which featured added ground clearance, among other upgrades. After the war, Ariel went back to making Square Fours and Red Hunters.
Sangster sells Ariel & Triumph to BSA In 1944, Sangster sold Ariel to BSA (Birmingham Small Arms). After the War, Triumph was doing so well in the growing motorcycle market, and the new all-important US export market, that Sangster was able to sell Triumph to BSA for 2.5 million pounds, a tidy return on his 50,000-pound investment. BSA was not only the worldʼs largest and richest motorcycle company at the time, it was one of the largest companies of any kind. BSA was a true multinational corporate giant. They built not only motorcycles, but cars, buses, trucks, military vehicles, industrial, construction, agricultural and mining equipment, armaments, munitions, steel and more. Their steel-making was considered state-of-the-art at the time, and their metallurgists were among the worldʼs best. It seemed they could do or accomplish anything. BSA was flush with cash, credit, resources, manpower, brainpower, and vast market reach. So, Sangster smartly made his installation onto BSAʼs board of directors part of the Triumph deal. If BSA wanted Triumph, Jack Sangster had to come along with the deal.
Ariel Product Development Under BSAʼs tutelage, Ariel continued along, producing low numbers of the Square Four and high volumes of Red Hunter singles. The Square Four was never a great performing bike. It was heavy, the rear cylinders still tended to run hot, even after several design continued...
upgrades. The valves were all situated vertically, car-style, rather than angled like more modern designs. And all four cylinders were fed by one single carburetor, with a long and tortuous intake tract. All of this restricted airflow, limiting its maximum performance potential. Not to mention those two heavy crankshafts. But, they were very smooth and provided excellent low-end torque, which made them ideal for sidecar duty. The Red Hunter on the other hand, was fast, and sold well through the 1950s, until big singles all began to fade from glory with the advent of the vertical twin. With BSAʼs help, Ariel came out with its own vertical twin, the 500cc Model KH, and the 650cc Huntmaster, both with engines based on the BSA A10. Badge-engineering had arrived at Ariel. Typical of Ariel motorcycles overall, the new twins were well-designed and built, and pretty fast. The Huntmaster was capable of 100 mph in the early 1950s, a fact that still didnʼt bring in the much-needed sales they were hoping for. Even the famous Square Four was a slow-seller, totaling just 15,639 units over its entire 28-year lifespan (1931-1959).

Sangster Cashes In BSA’s Chips

Misreading the Market By the late 1950s, ailing Ariel needed to do something fast, and fortunately parent-company BSA still had the resources to do it. But, designing, testing, developing, then tooling up for, and producing an all-new motorcycle was a huge commitment in time, energy and money, even for a giant like BSA. So, the question was what to do? Throughout the 1950s, the British home market had been growing steadily for inexpensive commuter bikes to the rising middle class who couldn’t yet afford a car. Lightweight 2-strokes like the BSA Bantam were selling more and more with each passing year. Ariel, and parent-company BSA thought this trend would keep growing forever. What they didn’t count on was the 1959 BMC Mini, a 4-passenger car that didn’t cost much more than a motorcycle, and suddenly Britain abandoned commuter bikes for microcars. But the die had been cast and Ariel was already well into the development process of its two new models. Both were 250cc 2-stroke twins, one with fully-enclosed bodywork called the Leader, and the other without it, called the Arrow. Both were huge flops in the marketplace, and proved to be the final nail in Arielʼs coffin. BSA closed the Ariel factory at Selly Oak in 1962, moving remaining Leader and Arrow production to BSAʼs own factory at Small Heath, until the last true Ariel was built, in 1965. The market they had built the bikes for had shrunk down to near nothing, and the recent onslaught of high-quality, low-priced bikes from Japan had rendered them obsolete and totally uncompetitive.
But, what of Jack Sangster? Following a series of boardroom battles, and plenty of behind-the-scenes maneuvering, Sangster succeeded in ousting BSAʼs Chairman of the Board, Sir Bernard Docker in 1956. He installed himself as the new Chairman, and over the next several years, presided over the stripping and selling-off of the BSA industrial empire. Factories, research centers, steel mills, and valuable contracts were all sold off, making BSA weaker by the year. Of course, the 1950s were the best of times for the two biggest players in the British motorcycle biz, BSA (which included BSA, Triumph, Ariel, and Francis-Barnett), and AMC or Associated Motor Cycles (who built Matchless, AJS, Norton and Sunbeam), so no one seemed to notice or mind. But, by the time Jack Sangster retired from the board of BSA in 1961, this once-mighty industrial powerhouse was weak, broke, behind the market technologically, and clueless as to what to do about it. Where did all the money go? Certainly not back into the company, from the sale of all its assets. Jack Sangster likely did well, but he left BSA crippled beyond repair. BSA had been the strongest player in the marketplace, perhaps the only one strong enough to stand up to the upcoming Japanese Invasion in their pre-Sangster condition. Mainly because BSA owned Triumph, and Triumph was kicking butt, especially in America, right up to about 1970. But thatʼs another story. If BSA would have remained strong, and would have kept the brainpower that they had (many of their best people left the company in disgust during those years), they could have embraced and leveraged Triumphʼs US success, and poured the much-needed funds into a new line of modern engines, more like what the Japanese were building. Of course, this never happened. BSA entered the 1960s broke and riding on Triumphʼs success. BSA even tried to team up with the former AMC empire in 1972 to form a new company, Norton-Villiers-Triumph, but even that couldnʼt save them, or Ariel, or the British motorcycle industry as a whole. it barking but it was hot on Andy’s tail! In fact, at one point, it was running right beside me, keeping up with my speed. I had slowed down since there was a dog on the loose but it was running every bit of 20 mph! No lie! That dog was so focused on Andy (who was in the front) that I don’t think it even noticed me and Dave until it finally got tired of running. It looked over at me startled but it was done chasing us. Evidently there was a bird that was holding its dinner in its mouth that flew over us, but I missed that guy somehow. The last thing on this stretch of road was the wooden bridge. There were no signs that showed the weight restriction and I couldn’t imagine a car driving over it. It looked kind of old and not well put together. In fact, the very words that came out of my mouth as I started to embark over it was, “What the fuck?” I wish my camera had been rolling for this road…it would have made a great video and great pictures! Next time I will make sure I have them running!
June 4, 2017 Finally, a day off with great weather! My day started at 6:30 in the morning and there’s only one thing that will make me get out of bed that early on a Sunday…my bike!!! The plan was to spend the day on the bike, riding to Ocean City and back and just enjoying the day. I haven’t been to Ocean City yet this year and I’ve been missing it. So, I met up with Dave in Pasadena and we headed towards the Bay Bridge. Dave just started riding last year and I’m very proud of him as his riding skills get better and better. He’s already saying he needs a bigger bike! We made our way over the Bay Bridge with a sunny sky and the temperature getting warmer by the minute. By the time we made it to Easton, I was starting to get hot in my chaps and hoodie that I had on under my jacket. I needed these things earlier in the morning because it was chilly. That’s the great thing about saddle bags…I can disrobe and stash them away! We pulled into the Wawa in Easton where we met up with Andy and Rhonda. We said our hellos and I reminded Andy that Dave was a new rider and then we were off with only a little over an hour left until we reached our destination. Andy led us on a detour as we approached Cambridge. He made a right hand turn onto a road that I can’t remember the name of. By then, my camera’s batteries were already dead so I got none of this road on video…which was unfortunate! I believe the road was part of the Blackwater Refuge. He warned us prior that he’d be leading us into the middle of nowhere and he was not kidding! There were houses on this stretch but not much else there than water and trees and grass! There were three things that I personally noted. First, there was a turtle in the middle of our lane at one point and even though it was moving faster than what you would think a turtle could move, we had to be sure to not hit it! Shortly after the turtle, we had a dog that started chasing us. The odd thing was that I didn’t hear

That little stretch of road took us a good thirty minutes to get through and then we were back on route 50. We reached Ocean City at about 1:00. We parked and made our way to the boardwalk to get one of the major food groups into our bellies…Thrasher’s Fries!! After that we had lunch at another major food group: Pizza at Fat Daddy’s (seriously some of the best pizza I’ve ever had), and then we topped that off with some ice cream from Dumsers. After that, I wanted to take a nap on the beach but there was no time for that. We got back on our bikes after only two hours and headed back home. Overall, I did 246 miles on the bike and when I woke up for work the next morning, I felt like I had been hit by a truck! Maybe these longer rides will not be as easy for me as they used to be… but I’ll keep going as long as I can! I wanted to extend my thanks to Rhonda for taking my picture while I was riding…it’s my first one ever!! I’m excited as the summer gets off to a start. I can’t wait for my weekend trips that I will finally have time for. I wonder where I’ll end up next?! Like always, thanks for reading!

• Make yourself visible. Choose riding gear that increases your visibility in traffic in addition to providing protection in the event of a crash. Use bright colors and retro-reflective strips or decals, especially at night. • Ride so you are seen. There is no one safe place to ride. Use lane positioning to be seen. Ride with your headlight on and consider using a modulating headlight. • Give yourself space and time to react. Allow space for emergency braking or for avoiding a crash. Make your lane moves gradually. • Signal your intentions. Signal before changing lanes. Avoid weaving between lanes. Flash your brake light when you are slowing down and before stopping. • Be courteous and respect other road users. Being courteous, non-aggressive and cooperative can go a long way in reducing crashes.

Wall of Death motorcycle show brings thrills to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring the Riders of Kawasaki National event scheduled for July 7-9 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Motorcycle daredevils will be thrilling crowds every hour, riding vintage bikes on a vertical wall inside the American Motor Drome Wall of Death at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring the Riders of Kawasaki, July 7-9 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. A crowd favorite, the show features a motor drome — a silo-shaped wooden cylinder 30 feet across — and motorcycle riders performing trick, fancy and acrobatic riding along its vertical wall. Spectators stand at the top of the 14-foot wall and look down as the riders speed around the cylinder, passing within inches of the crowd. “These riders have amazing skills, and they entertain the crowd with their trick riding,” said AMA Chief Operations Officer Jeff Massey. “Every show draws a capacity crowd of 150.”

The 2017 U.S. men’s team includes Daniel Blanc-Gonnet (Montesa), Bryan Roper (Gas-Gas) and Pat Smage (Sherco). The men’s team alternate is Sam Fastle (Sherco). The FIM Trial des Nations began in Europe in 1983 as a way to bring the best trials riders from each country together to compete as teams, and it has evolved into one of the most anticipated motorcycle events of the year. So I guess I can blame this club for my addiction to the sport of motorcycling and give them props at the same time. The WRMC began 65 years ago getting people hooked by offering a great club atmosphere and offering several different types of events each year. At their club grounds near Jefferson, Pa they hold two pro hillclimbs each year with the next for 2017 being on Sunday September 24th. They also hold trials competitions here and a couple of different bike shows and swap meets each year. Please check out their full schedule online at: www. whiterosemc.org. As I mentioned I’ve been coming here for years and things have definitely changed over the years. I remember Pro Hillclimbing as an older man’s sport mostly riding older style H-D’s, Triumphs and the likes. I guess with the advent of the modern motocross machine the AMA developed a stock 450 class to try and get new blood in the sport. The good news is it looks like it’s been a success. A guy or a gal can go and buy a stock 450 single at the local dealer and with a few modifications been heading up the hill. They still offer two other classes, the Xtreme and Unlimited which are differentiated by motor size but just about anything goes there as long as you stay in the cc limit. We’re talking modern four cylinder engines running on Nitro-Methane and just burning up the hill. I would say the other success here is not only does it make a great show for the crowd, but this younger group riding the 450 stock bikes has also stepped up and started building these full blown machines to compete on.’ One other mention before I tell you who won. I want to give a big shout out to Miss Molly Carbon. Molly is the only gal competing on the pro circuit and she rides in both the 450 Pro and the Xtreme divisions. I got a brief chance to speak with Molly in between runs on this day and she told me her only goal was to make it to the top of the hill. Not only did Molly hit the Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic

T
he inspiration for this ROAD ride came from an CAPTAIN’S Only in Virginia post REPORT of the top 10 best Barbecue spots in the state. One, near Farmville, The Fishin’ Pig, caught my eye. Plotting the route on Google Maps, showed a surprise along the way. Crossing the James River near Scottsville, was a ferry we’d never been to. The day was shaping up to be a gem. And we had two of our good friends on board for the journey. Henry Jordan met us at Base Camp Bovine at the Highland Hideaway on his Limited. A relatively short cruise through Augusta County found us in Waynesboro, where we met up with Ed Lang on his Tri Glide. Once past Afton Mountain, we were on some splendid back roads, passing through lesser known towns like Batesville, North Garden and Keene, enjoying every mile. It was another road to nowhere, void of fast Getting Close
food places and box stores. The smell of fresh cut hay gripped the air as we passed a country store. We arrived at the Hatton Ferry shortly after noon. Captain Craig met us with Batesville a handshake and a friendly smile. I was immediately dumbstruck at the jaw-dropping height of the flood watermarks on the plank at the captain’s shack. We all chatted for the next 15 minutes before we even thought about boarding the ferry. There was so much to take in. The Captain was answering questions, providing some history, and passing along stories of this gem of a landmark: “how years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.” It was present today as well. And it’s always cool when your bike is on a boat. Once on board, I saw the poles, along with two cables on winches, one fore and one aft, attached with wheels, to the main cable spanning the river. “Surely,” I thought, “He isn’t going to push us all the way to the other side?” Then Captain Craig loosened the aft winch, lengthening the cable. He said the boat would now act like a sail and tack, using the river’s current, to get to the other side. Well, ain’t

that just the coolest sh*t I’ve never seen! Pictures taken, and docked on the other side, we all said our thankyous and goodbyes, knowing we’d just experienced something extraordinary, and taking with us, very pleasant memories, that will last a long, long time. We were all very surprised that we were the first crossing on this beautiful day. The fare was just $5 each, which went towards operational, maintenance and insurance costs. Since VDOT no longer is associated with the ferry, they rely on donations for crossings. It is the last operational, poled ferry in the United States. Anyone traveling near here, owes it to themselves to experience this. We were all good and hungry by the time we made it to the Fishin’ Pig. There were several other bikes in the parking lot, hinting we were in for a treat. I was immediately pleased upon entering, not only by the warm greeting and quick seating, but by the decor, which exceeded my expectations. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I had a BBQ platter which had a nice Smokey flavor, and sides that made me leave fat, dumb and happy. The manager checked on us and thanked us, on two separate occasions, for dining here.There should be an FD&H award, and a trophy for these kinds of restaurants. They also have a location in Waynesboro, VA. There was more to come. The ride back would take us across the Blue Ridge Parkway. We were able to twist Ed’s arm, and force him to go along with us, heading back. I think it was Henry’s mention of “ice cream.” We all had a bit of a head scratcher after passing a sedan a mile before the four lane merged into two. Then, at the last minute, the driver decides to ride next to Rose and I at the merge. I slow, opting to follow. Then the cage decides five mph under the speed limit is a good pace. I was thinking of names for this, but I don’t think they would pass the proofread. Temps were now, high in the 80s, or Def Leppard-like. The stop at Buena Vista Overlook cooled things down a bit. I set up the pod of all triness for a pic. Blue sky dominated over a few scattered clouds with the sun at our back. I doctored

it up with some filtering and grayscale. Thinking the ice cream shop was only a block away, I bailed at a couple of open parking spaces in busy, downtown Lexington. We started walking down a side street, but no businesses were in sight. I checked my smart phone and discovered there was no signal. We walked back to the bikes to get a closer look on the GPS. And while we conversed with some folks admiring our bikes, Ed was doing something called, “asking for directions,” inside one of the businesses. It was hot, but we still elected to walk the three blocks to Sweet Things, instead of repark. Ice cream never tasted so good! We said goodbye to Ed. He was heading back north. It was our first-time riding with him. He’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, and I’m sure it won’t be our last. On the way back in West Augusta, at one of the gas stations we stopped at earlier in the day, we bumped into Gavin and Holly, who were on their way home from the dealership we used to work at. A short, but exhilarating ride over Shenandoah Mountain and everyone was enjoying a cerveza at La Casa de Ritchie. In what has become somewhat routine, it was another perfect end to a perfect ride. Henry, who lives a little further out than we do, estimated nearly 350 miles for the day. Existing in this manner, wind in the hair, cruising on a velvet ribbon, for miles and miles, day after day, week after week, and year after year, not only will change our lives, but our souls as well. Static is no longer an accepted form of existence. Like an infant soothed by motion, we have not outgrown the need. When we ride, not only is our lust for wandering satisfied, but the more it is, the younger we feel. And if I may ramble on, we may have just discovered another memorable tale that once couldn’t be told, from the freedom we hold so dear. Cheers and thanks for reading! By Jim Bull I guess one would find it hard to believe that in 37 years of riding street motorcycles that I would have at some point swung my leg over a BMW, especially working in the industry. I imagine growing up in a Harley town and working in a multi franchise Japanese brand dealership may have been a reason. If you guys have been following along you noticed last month that Velocity Cycles in Mechanicsburg, Pa helped me realize a long time dream of riding a big Honda Adventure Bike. Again Chris said she’s yours for the day so we pointed her north and hit the road. This model line of bikes which includes five different versions is based off the legendary BMW R 80 G/S which was introduced way back in 1980 and took the motorcycle world by storm. It was designed as a touring motorcycle that had both on and off road capabilities. Today you can buy this bike in the R Nine T, the Scrambler, the Urban GS, the Pure and the Racer versions. My suggestion, if you like the cool design of today’s modern scrambler, don’t like to pull much maintenance and love to ride the backroads then this is a bike you need to take a look at. Even on the highway it cruised well at 65 - 70 mph and didn’t beat you up like some standards would. When I was a kid it wasn’t uncommon if a child uttered a profanity that they would get their mouth washed out with soap. Around our house there were different levels of punishment depending on the offensiveness of the language. I you let a single four letter word or quasi obscene phrase escape your lips you earned chomp on the bar of Ivory soap in the bathroom, on the other hand if you dropped an “F” bomb or went on a profane tirade it was off to the laundry room for a light brunch of Fells Naptha, followed by a grounding until the second coming. Well, there isn’t enough Fells Naptha or time in eternity to cover what I am about to say, but mom and dad forgive me, but I have found something that Richard Dreyfuss and I actually agree on, and that is scary in so many ways! Dreyfuss was being interviewed by one of the television conservative talking heads and I tuned in out of curiosity to see if the interviewer handed him his head in a basket. The actor, a well-known argumentative liberal protagonist, was actually rather disarming when he stated that he had withdrawn from partisan politics and had become constitutionalists and was part of a movement to restore civics as part of public school curriculum. I was floored, the man was (is) right in that, the founding documents of our government and the function of the government they establish is not taught, therefore young people don’t understand how richly unique we are as a nation. Our first found document was ratified by congress on July 4, 1776 and represented a bill of unanswered grievances against a tyrannical government established by the King of England. The Declaration of Independence established the principal of self-governance in the second paragraph where it says “We hold these truths to be self- evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, and among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,--That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter it or to abolish it---------------”
“with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” By the way, several of them did lose their lives and/or fortunes at the hands of the British, but none of them surrendered their honor by bowing before the Crown! Anyways, back to Dreyfuss, he stated that he is fed up with modern liberalism trashing the Constitution, but he fears the anarchy being suborned by powers inside and outside our own government to force change on the people. He is right, civil discourse is dead when people like former Attorney General Loretta Lynch openly declares that maybe it’s time we have the coming civil war and get it over with. Mayors, Chiefs of Police, and college administrators stand by as mobs threaten violence to silence points of view they don’t agree with, then when protest turn to physical assault, looting and arson no effort is made to protect the safety and property of citizens caught in the wake of mass temper tantrums. We are at a point where government is no longer among men, but controlled by what amounts to ideological cowards, who refuse to control criminality for the sake of political correctness. While much of this cannot be laid at the feet of Barak Obama and his cronies the weaponization of the government against private citizens is staggering, Justice, IRS, EPA, Interior, BLM, ICE, and so on all got their hands dirty bending the will of anybody that dared to stand up to them. We used to be a nation of independent self-reliant individuals who earned what we had and the function of government ensured we were able to keep it. More and more liberalism feels obligated to steal what is ours, in order to subsidize others based on their belief that, even though we worked hard all our lives, we may have too much and it is their duty to alleviate that burden. America used to be a place where being a peon was the starting point, from which anybody could grow an abundant life, but the overreach of government in the name of compassion or social justice has turned peon into pissed on and I ain’t into that! Have a great Fourth and remember what it means!!!
This was taken directly from the document; read it slowly and paying attention to the capitalization and punctuation should be an eye opening experience. It lays a foundation for governance by the governed, a novel idea in the 1700’s, to protect the private citizen from the tyrannical abuses such as those that precipitated the Declaration and the ensuing revolution. Rich men stood beside poor men, all equal in and to the cause that collectively they were more than capable of self-governance. Basic rights such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were gifts of God, guaranteed to a people willing to step up and claim it, and they could only be secured by a government among men because governments of men (monarchs, dictators, despots, and their appointees) are always abusive of personal liberty in the blind pursuit self-indulgent corruption. And those who signed this document; rich men, poor men, scholars, farmers, tradesmen, and shop keepers affirmed their beliefs in the closing lines that say Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic

Casey Brooke This bike started out as a stock 1974 XLCH Harley Davidson that I purchased some time back. This is the third bike of it’s style that I have built over the past 6 years. The first version of this type of Karns Kustoms “New school board tracker” was called “21”. This bike did very well on the show circuit and ultimately won the 2013 Modified Harley United States championship for that year along with many other awards. The next was a bike called “Slickster” which was featured on the cover of the Thunder Roads Magazine September 2016 edition. This bike went on to win the Championship of Americas Street Customs title in Orlando FL in 2016. Now to the bike you see featured within these pages. This bike is called “Misfit” and is our third and last bike in the trilogy of this style of New School Board Trackers builds that were built by my shop Karns Kustoms in Delmar MD. This bike took features from the two prior builds and incorporated some of the best features of them into this bike such as the rear section styling from “Slickster”, the louvers from “21” and other recognizable designs cues from the two prior builds. We used just the front half of the frame , neck and drivetrain from the 1974 Harley Davidson XLCH and made or modified everything else. Starting from front to back the front forks which are a one-piece triple tree and handlebar unit came about from

a partnership between 138 Fabrications which bent the tubing and worked out the geometry and Karns Kustoms completed the final welding and fitment. The wheels are a 21” spool front wheel with a 19” rear wheel. Do to the larger tire on the rear it gives you the impression the rear wheel is larger than the front which it isn’t. The gas tank was hand made in house as well as all the other metal fabrication on this bike. I pride myself on the fact that I do almost everything in house including the Paint and body work. This bike is no exception and we painted this one a House of Kolor Red over a white base to make it “pop”. All the graphics on the bike are hand painted by our in-house artist Jason Wharton which is simply one of the best “old school” hand painters out there. One thing that makes a Karns Kustoms build stand out is that we hide everything we can such as wires and oil lines and this bike is no exception. We ran tubes in the frame so we could run lines etc. throughout the bike without seeing them. Overall this bike is a true one off Kustom that must be seen to be appreciated. This bike has challenged me throughout the build but in the end, I think this is one of the nicest builds that have come out of my shop to date and I hope you agree. Big City Rhino, LLC. is challenging you to get out and Ride. Thunder Roads® MidAtlantic, THE MAGAZINE THAT RIDES, has put this challenge together with our sponsor, Law Offices of Jay Irwin Block, LLC. This is a riding challenge like no other! It features prizes every month that you can earn by simply getting out on your bike and riding to the numerous riding destinations and events across the Mid-Atlantic area!
The Way it Works
Each month Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic will announce a list of “check-in” stops. These stops are selected based upon the recommendations of our readers and confirmed by our Road Crew. Riders then ride to these locations and present their Big City Card in order to “check-in”. Once a Rider has checked-in, their card number is then entered into a drawing. Each month, Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic will randomly select a rider’s check-in from across the regional states for special prizes and incentives. Prizes are developed by both Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic and our sponsors - allowing for some exciting options. The prizes may include riding gear or accessories, gift certificates, rally passes, concert tickets, and many other prizes for the motorcycle enthusiast! Every check-in counts as an entry in the drawing; if you hit 40 stops in a month, you have twice as many chances of winning as someone that only hits 20. Anyone can win with any check-in, but your chances of winning will increase by the amount you ride! The more you ride, the more opportunities you will have to win! The dedicated rider trekking across the states has a greater chance of accumulating prizes; however, even the couple that can only get out a few days a month to ride can also win! That’s the goal of this program – to encourage everyone to get out and ride!
Stop Prizes
Every month the Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic staff will randomly select winners from the check-ins. Some prizes will be specific to, and usually sponsored by, the particular stop. For instance, a leather shop may award a custom leather vest to someone visiting their store during the month of June. That would be a prize specific to that stop and only riders checking in at that location would be eligible for that prize. Other prizes will be state-wide, with everyone eligible to win checking in at any location!

Winners
If your check-in is drawn, Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic will post your card number in both the magazine and online. Riders will then have 45 days to claim their prizes. For state-wide prizes, winners will have the opportunity to select from a number of prize options. For instance, a rider might have the option of winning a Rally Package that includes accommodations and extras for attending the rally. If that rider isn’t able to take advantage of that prize, he/she may opt for an alternate available prize instead. nn Riders can check-in once a week at a particular stop (Monday - Sunday), for a maximum of 4 check-ins per month, not counting bonuses. nn Riders are able to win multiple prizes based upon the drawing of their check-ins. nn Some prize drawings are specific to check-ins only for that particular month, while others prizes are drawn from checkins all season long. nn ALL check-ins have the opportunity to qualify for end-of-theseason prizes!

Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic will also be registering riders for Big City Cards at specific events throughout the year as we distribute magazines. Key events, such as Rallies or Bike Nights may have a special booth for Big City Card registrations. In most cases, we will be offering bonus points both for those registering for the cards and those checking in with their previously issued cards at these stops. Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic will also be working with charities and various non-profit events to include them in the Stop schedule as well. This will be an easy means of encouraging participation and attracting riders from outside the local communities. In many cases, we will have specific prize drawings for those at these events. The Big City Cards will allow participants to easily and safely check in at all stops. Some Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic sponsors will also be offering discounts to readers that present the cards. Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic will be listing special discounts and offers in the magazine throughout the year as an added value to readers and means of encouraging our partners to offer these extra savings. PLEASE NOTE: Once you have received your BIG CITY CARD, you will not be asked to provide personal information or emails at any location for check-in. You simply enter your card number and date! This is not a “Chinese fire drill”, or “mad-dash” across the state. This is a Ride Challenge. One of the really exciting aspects of the Big City Rhino Challenge is that it can be modified throughout the summer – if not the entire year. We will be adding and dropping stops each month. MDRA MX Racing at Doublin Gap MX Park Shippensburg, Pa, May 6-7, 2017 In early May we headed out to the beautiful foothills of south central Pa to catch Round # 3 of the Mason Dixon Riding Associations 2017 motocross series at Doublin Gap MX Park. Doublin Gap is another one of those places that has been around for years and loves to cater to the needs of motorcycle riders and racers. This weekend also brought lots of rain on Friday and Saturday prior to Sunday’s race day but the years of experience from these track builders proved for a great racing surface on Sunday after the rains ceased. Rough yes, but not the soup bowl that you may have found at some other places. This series offers racing for both the young and old, novice to expert and men and women alike. Age classes start at just 4 years old and go right through 50 plus and that’s years, not cc’s. Matter of fact many national champions have been cut from these ranks and still are to this day. Doublin Gap is also biker friendly and they offer a $5 admission to anyone who rides in on a street bike. If you or your group is looking for a great Sunday ride you can head on out to the track where racing generally kicks off by about noon or so. You’ll get to experience up to 20 classes of racing that can run up to 4 or 5 in the afternoon. Spectating is friendly here and concessions are available. The 20th Annual Virginia Beach Elks Lodge Veteran’s Run
The 20th Annual Virginia Beach Elks Lodge Veteran’s Run was held on May 20th in memory of all USA Veterans. The gathering began at Bucketheads Beach Grill near the Lynnhaven Inlet with a delicious breakfast buffet. Threatening weather took its toll on the usual large numbers of participants, but the dedicated participants made it a great ride and party. After filling ourselves up, we made poker stops at Poppa’s Pub, Capone’s Diner, Footers Sports Pub and Judy’s Pub before arriving at the Elks Lodge. The Elks Lodge had a great party set-up and atmosphere with a bar, buffet, stage and plenty of seating under tents to keep us dry during one brief sprinkling of rain. Along with the giving away of some great door prizes, one of the Elks Lodge members had taken several leftover bike parts with his welding skills and made custom trophies out of them. Those receiving the trophies got a one of a kind award that will be a conversation piece for a long time. The Saints & Soldiers Riding Club received the biggest assemblage of parts for their support as the largest group. A great day for a great cause.

16th Anniversary Old Dudes MC Poker Run
S
aturday, June 17th was not looking great on the weather forecast in Hampton Roads area of Virginia but, that didn’t stop a bunch of Old Dudes from getting together to help a very worthy cause… Beyond Boobs. The 16th Anniversary Poker Run (6th year in support of the Beyond Boobs Organization) was held despite what the weather man said, by the Old Dudes Motorcycle Club out of Newport News. The approximately 100 miles long ride started out at Quaker Steak and Lube (Newport News) where

riders could enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet. It was then off to Jose Tequila’s in historic Williamsburg with a police escort out of the city. The Old Dudes MC organized and operated the run with great order and precision. We then rode over to Lovell’s Place in beautiful West Point. From there it was a relaxing ride to Damon & Company in Gloucester on highway 17. Just before pulling in to Damon’s, the rain finally caught up to the riders and it came in buckets. After a 20 minute wait for the rain to stop, we headed for the final stop and

The Cox family that owns Hampton Roads Harley-Davidson are great people with generous hearts and have helped with many worthy causes over the years. the women attending. The brothers event come down to the beach and cook dinner for the ladies one evening. It was a great day to ride for a terrific cause. The camaraderie and fellowship by the Old Dudes MC members was top notch. The ladies from Beyond Boobs! made everyone feel welcome.
The Old Dudes MC was formed to promote camaraderie, foster brotherhood of free spirited motorcycling, support the community and fellow bikers, and whatever the hell else they desire to do. They stress that they operate within the normal constraints of social decorum, as they the Club, interpret it to be. They are a great group of brothers who love to ride, embarrass and insult each other, and in general have a great time. Old Dudes MC has evolved into a Club that has become a leader in community service. They take pride in their love of Brotherhood, family and country. Beyond Boobs! was formed in 2006 by a small group of women in Williamsburg, Virginia that wanted to pack some punch into the pink ribbon campaign to take women beyond awareness of breast cancer to the action required to ensure early detection. Equipped with humor, a Good Health Fairy, and many mutual experiences, they set out to make a difference and save some lives. One of their main projects each year is to hold a retreat in Sandbridge, VA for women with breast cancer to bond, share stories and learn more about the disease and the support of Beyond Boobs! Organization. The Old Dudes MC has made it their mission to sponsor the retreat to the point that there is absolutely no cost to any of

Concerned motorcyclists are encouraged to contact their federal lawmakers in the U.S. Senate & House of Representatives to co-sponsor and support these bills. Under the companion measures in the Senate and House, “motorcycle profiling” means “the illegal use of the fact that a person rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle related apparel as a factor in deciding to stop and question, take enforcement action, arrest, or search a person or vehicle with or without legal basis under the Constitution of the United States. FEDERAL LEGISLATION COULD PROLIFERATE E15 GAS Despite objections that the proliferation of E15 gasoline into the U.S. marketplace will negatively impact every American who owns a car, lawnmower or boat, two new federal bills have been introduced to expand availability of the higher concentrate ethanol fuel. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) and U.S. Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE) introduced the “Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act” (S.517 & H.R.1311) amending the Clean Air Act to allow the sale of E15 (15% blend ethanol gas) during summer months (June 1 - September 15). Motorcycle and ATV owners risk damaging their machines by even inadvertently putting E15 in their tanks, as the higher blends of ethanol can cause engine and fuel system damage, void manufacturers’ warranties and violate federal law. Motorcyclists should also be concerned about the availability of compatible fuel supplies if gas stations primarily provide E15 gasoline that’s EPA-approved for the majority of their driving customers 48
-- but no on- or off-road motorcycles or ATVs appear on the EPA’s list 11/1/11 5:06 PM of vehicles approved to use E15. ZERO MOTORCYCLES NEW “DON’T WAIT FOR WASHINGTON” E-BIKE PROGRAM The recently launched program was created to advocate for electric motorcycles and assure buyers they will get the Electric Motorcycle Federal Tax Credit. “Don’t Wait For Washington” assures “up to $1,869 on a Zero motorcycle if the government fails to reinstate the Electric Motorcycle Tax Credit.” The initiative serves the dual purposes of driving the conversation on electric motorcycles forward while legislation languishes in Washington, and of motivating would-be electric motorcycle riders to join the e-movement. Should the federal government fail to reinstate the tax credit by the end of the year, then Zero will step up and send 10% cash back to buyers, matching the expired tax credit for new, eligible 2017 Zero motorcycles. MAINSTREAM MEDIA PROMOTES RIDERSHIP According to the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), a not-forprofit national trade association, their 2014 rider survey reports that “56% of Generation Y riders use their motorcycles as a primary means of transportation,” and that factoid recently appeared in a Ride To Work Day graphic on the front page of the June 19 edition of USA Today’s Life section. “This major mainstream media placement is especially significant to the MIC as the industry association is actively promoting motorcycles as transportation and seeking new generations of riders,” says the MIC communications department, which has previously worked on Ride to Work Day segments with “Good Morning America,” ABC’s national morning news show, and with “The KTLA Morning News,” the biggest morning news program in Southern California. The MIC exists to “preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, AIMExpo, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues.”

LOUISIANA TO TEACH NEW LICENSEES HOW TO INTERACT WITH POLICE Louisiana Governor Bel Edwards has signed into law a requirement that driver education classes must include a segment on interacting with police in their course curriculum. Introduced by Senators Ryan Gatti (R-Bossier), Wesley Bishop (D-New Orleans) and Gary Smith Jr. (D-Norco) on March 20, 2017, SB17 “Provides for driver education to include instruction on appropriate driver conduct when stopped by a law enforcement officer.” The bipartisan measure was signed by the governor on June 16 as Act No. 286 with an effective date of January 1, 2018. HANDLEBAR HEIGHT LAW MODIFIED IN MARYLAND Maryland has become the most recent state to modify or repeal their antiquated and discriminatory handlebar height law, which many states enacted in the sixties to provide a law enforcement tool for pulling over bikers on their choppers. Governor Larry Hogan approved Senate Bill 668 on May 25, 2017; “Increasing, from 15 inches to 20 inches, the maximum height that the handlebars of a motorcycle may be above a specified part of the motorcycle seat in order for a person to lawfully operate the motorcycle.” SB668 was introduced February 3, 2017 by lead sponsor Senator H. Wayne Norman, Jr. (R-D35) and becomes effective October 1, 2017, and ABATE of Maryland advises to “Remember that the height is measured from the seat to the highest point on the handlebars, not from the bottom of the handlebar to the grips or highest point.” NEW HAMPSHIRE OKAYS COLORED HEADLAMPS FOR MOTORCYCLES, SAME AS CARS New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu signed HB458 into law on June 8, 2017, an Act relative to motorcycle headlamps. Sponsored by Rep. James Spillane (R-Deerfield), “This bill allows headlamp colors approved by the director of the division of motor vehicles for automobiles to be considered approved for motorcycle headlamps,” with an effective date 60 days after its passage (August 7, 2017). OREGON ENACTS LAWS EFFECTING TRIKES & AUTOCYCLES In dealing with the increased popularity of three-wheeled vehicles, Oregon lawmakers have passed two new laws to make it easier for riders to get in the saddle. House Bill 3125 was signed into law by Governor Kate Brown on June 14, 2017 to define an “autocycle” and provides that a person may operate one without a motorcycle endorsement. The Act takes effect immediately under the Emergency clause. Sponsored by the Committee on Transportation Policy, under HB3125 “autocycle” means a motorcycle that: (1) Is manufactured to travel on three wheels; (2) Has a steering wheel for steering control; and (3) Has nonstraddle seating, and (4) is equipped with a manufacturer-installed three-point safety belt Thunder Roads®Mid-Atlantic
or safety harness. Senate Bill 36 “Provides that Department of Transportation may waive skills test for person seeking motorcycle endorsement to operate three-wheeled motorcycle [trike],” and was also signed by the governor on June 14. LICENSE PLATE MOUNTING OPTIONS FOR SOUTH DAKOTA RIDERS Effective July 1, 2017, motorcycle owners in South Dakota will be allowed to mount license plates to their motorcycle “in any visible manner other than upside down.” Governor Dennis Daugaard signed Senate Bill 79 into law on March 9, after overwhelmingly passing through both chambers of the state legislature. FAIR WARNING: MOST DRIVERS KNOW THEY’RE BAD DRIVERS Millions of drivers admit that they don’t always make thorough mirrors checks when pulling away, according a driver survey, with 25% admitting they don’t look in their mirrors when pulling out into traffic. Of 2,025 drivers polled, 15% admitted not always looking at road signs, 68% admit rarely driving with both hands on the wheel, and over half (52%) believed bad habits such as these would ensure they failed the driving test if they had to do it again. Too many people are injured on the roads due to poor judgment and a lack of road skills says David Carter, spokesman for Accident Advice Helpline in the U.K., which conducted the research, adding: “It is worrying that more people don’t feel confident in their own skills on the road and feel that they’ve developed bad habits which would cause them to not pass their driving test.” GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN This year has been tragic for our bikers rights family, suffering the loss of two past NCOM Board of Directors; Butch Harbaugh (NCOM Legislative Task Force) and Dennis “Big D” Watson (NCOM Region IX), both recipients of the Ron Roloff Lifetime Achievement Award (2003 & 2006) in whose memory the recent National Coalition of Motorcyclists’ NCOM Convention in Reno was dedicated, and now we regretfully report the passing of longtime biker advocate and Easyriders magazine writer “Twiggy” Blakeboro (73, of Lompoc, CA) who died June 11, 2017. I
t was dreary rainy Saturday May morning in the DMV as the clouds cast a gray lull throughout streets. However, within HarleyDavidson of Washington, the vibe was anything but gloomy for the Bessie Stringfield All Female Ride, the DMV Pep Rally hosted by the Ladies of the ‘O’MENS MC Fort Washington Chapter by First Lady, the motivating Shorty Rock. The day consistent of music by the “Unforgettable Diva” on the mic and turntables, vendors, free food, guest speakers and a police escorted ride. Yes, a ride throughout the DMV even with the rain. Although safety was paramount, the ladies weren’t going to let a little rain get in their way of doing what they do. It was simply time to gear-up, mount up and go! But before they ride, the ladies gathered for a welcoming prayer by ‘O’MENS MC Baby Girl followed by a presentation on the background, history and purpose of this nationwide celebration by the rides’ dynamic founder Kurvez. Not only did Kurvez passionately provide knowledge and enlightenment on the inspiring Ms. Bessie Stringfield, she also graciously took time to acknowledge and thank her team in attendance including Fiesti of the infamous annual All Female ride that Thunder Roads® Mid-Atlantic
took place during the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest, Jus’Tis, and Silkee to name a few. Kurvez poetically ended the presentation with “There’s a little of Bessie in all of us.” which set off a wave of applause. Guest speakers included Peppa with Platinum Dreams MC who spoke from firsthand experience on the importance of maintaining your bike with performing your own safety checks each and every time before you take to the road. Jus’Tis kept the audience’s attention with her expertise and knowledge of securing your weapon properly when traveling while Redi Red had the crowd captivated with her time and ultra-space saving compact travel tips with dropping some grandmotherly advice to stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. Taking to the stage in his usual cool fashion was Gerald of Gerald’s Auto Detail shop who spoke on the value of maintaining your bike mechanically as well as cosmetically. “A good
detail job goes a long way to not only keep your bike clean, but more importantly to truly protect it from debris, bugs and the usual flying road hazards we face on the road.” he said with sharing a costly example from a customer who unfortunately learned this lesson the hard way. But it was Ms. Wanda that had the ladies in tears with laughter and in awe as she shared her 40+ plus year of riding experience from her days being one of only a few women that rode to still riding today with a bad knee and all and plans to keep riding until she can’t ride anymore. Its’ no wonder with an attitude and outlook like this that “Wicked Wanda” earned the Bessie Stringfield Lifetime Achievement Award. A man sitting at the next table then leans over and whispers, “Um, I think it’s pronounced ‘quiche.’” _____________________________________________________ As a new, young MD doing his residency in OBGYN I was quite embarrassed when performing female pelvic exams. To cover my embarrassment I had unconsciously formed a habit of whistling softly. A very attractive young lady in her early 30’s whom I was performing this exam on suddenly burst out laughing and further embarrassing me. I looked up from my work and sheepishly said...’I’m sorry. Was I tickling you?’ She replied with tears running down her cheeks from laughing so hard ... ‘No doctor but the song you were whistling was... Motorcycle or car accident. Now what? By Matt Danielson, Motorcycle Law Group Nobody wants to think that they’ll be the one in a car or motorcycle accident, but statistics show there were more than 6.1 million accidents in the United States in 2014, the most recent year of government crash statistics. Should you be one of those licensed drivers who has an unlucky day – either on two wheels or four – one of your best defenses is to know what to do at the scene of an accident before it takes place. With the tips below as a frame of reference, you’ll be prepared to handle an accident scene: Don’t say anything. But aren’t I required to give a statement to the police? No, you are not. And you shouldn’t say anything about how the accident happened to police, to the other parties or even to witnesses. From a legal perspective, the Fifth Amendment gives us the choice to remain silent. At the scene of the accident, emotions are running high, and you only have the prospective as a driver. As these two factors are combined, you may not give an accurate account of what occurred and that may be a disadvantage to you later with insurance companies and in court. Therefore, tell the police, “Officer, I’m not feeling well, and I need medical attention. I can make a statement later.” Another alternative is, “Officer, I’d like to have a chance to regroup, and I’m not giving a statement at this time. I’ll be happy to speak to you later.” (Later is after you have had a chance to calm down and speak with a lawyer.) Call a friend to take pictures and connect with witnesses. It’s important to gather certain information from an accident scene right away, and you shouldn’t rely on the police to do it for you. Therefore, call a friend who can come to the accident scene quickly to help you, assuming you are not in the mental state to take photos and get the names and phone numbers of any witnesses. Use a cell phone to take photos of: Wide-angle views of the vehicles/motorcycles involved as they landed after an accident before they are moved/towed, assuming it is safe to do so Wide-angle views of debris on the roadway before it is cleared to the side Close-up shots of damage to each vehicle/motorcycle Look for witnesses to the accident: When insurance companies battle each other, your best defense can be witnesses who saw your accident. Get their names and phone numbers at the scene because you may need them for court as well. Call an attorney. When you’ve had an accident, you may need 60
