Well you have the April issue in hand, so Bike Week 2011 is a mere memory for everyone who got to make the trip. Every March the annual pilgrimage to the Sun and Sand signals the return of spring and summer riding weather here in the Mid-West. The 2011 Bikeweek seemed to be a little different from the past few years, first off the weather, very nice temperatures were a treat, daytime highs in the 80’s and plenty of sunshine, now the spring evenings did get a little cool, but not cold like last year. One thing that it did not take long to realize, the vendor count was down, I think the economy has finally effected the industry enough that the smaller “Mom & Pop” type vendors did not make the trip, or even worse survive the lean times. The large corporate vendors did not seem too over stocked, or maybe even downsizing some of their displays also. If you were there then you know it was not disappointing at all, just seemed to have a different street vendor feel. Opening weekend the crowd seemed to be up! Nevertheless, by midweek the big rush of people never seemed to come. The Daytona Chamber 4 Thunder Roads Kentucky

of Commerce has put the overall attendance numbers at 20% down, I know that number doesn’t seem big, but 20% of half a million people is a big number, and you could really tell it. My opinion the high gas prices were the biggest blame for the numbers being off. All the historic Bikeweek stops were rocking all week long, in the northern section of Ormond Beach, Destination Daytona had all the lots full of people and vendors enjoying the dream that Bruce Rossmeyer put in place. Inside the dealership one of Bruce’s bikes sat in the window, on the seat a dozen long stem roses, and a note simply stating “We Miss You.” A nice tribute to the man the industry lost just over a year ago. As you moved just a couple miles down Hwy 1 all, the outdoor biker bars and vendor fields were rocking. I always enjoy spending time along this section, there are some great little open air Bars where you could watch the bikes & people parade by all day long. This is the same area where you will find The Iron Horse Saloon, The Broken Spoke & The Tattoo Tavern. As you traveled on south, you found the “mecca” of the historic Bikeweek scene! Main Street and Beach Street with tons of vendors filling this part of town, we did see a few of our local retailers, “Custom Biker Wear” from Sturgis moved to the Beach Street area for 2011. April 2011

Daytona Beach Bikeweek 2011 Angel’s Sewing and Patches had an entire corner lot and building right on Main Street. HarleyDavidson has almost a full block under cover, giving everyone the chance to see all the models of new bikes, along with accessory displays and the H.O.G. merchandise and pin stop. Just a few blocks west on International Speedway Blvd, and you were at the Daytona Super Speedway facility. This is the heart and sole of bikeweek. 70 years ago the event started because of the races, and believe me they are still a very important part of the week. Every manufacture has large interactive displays surrounding the front half of the raceway. It was here that I found my personal favorite custom bikes on display, John Shope of Sinister Industries. They had what I thought were by far the “Baddest Baggers of Bikeweek”! John spent some time talking with me about a couple of the bikes he had brought to Daytona. One was a build going to a Texas customer, another was a Road King headed overseas to another. Super Trick Rides! Check Out the bikes

Rat Bike” vendors. A little further south, First Turn Steakhouse & Bar had several bands and good crowds, then the “Last Resort” was busy all week long! One more region to tell you about is New Smyrna. The Dealership there is always full of vendor displays, and with Pub 44 next store, you will always enjoy a afternoon or evening in this area, Just a few minutes from there and you are at “Cabbage Patch” Every year they host camping, vendors & the famous “Coleslaw Wrestling” battle on Wednesday. Now I hope you feel like you had a little tour of the Bikeweek region, I highly recommend you schedule Bikeweek as a “Must Do Event” for 2012. As for our area back at home, Owensboro’s Maloneys Roca-Bar Wednesday night bike night kicks off in May. T.G.I.Fridays will get going in May also! The last Saturday of Bike Week we were at White Eagle Lounge for our Hot Thunder Bikini Contest sponsored by Twisted Tea. The Twisted Tea promo girls played games as Frank Scott from WHOG Radio did a live remote. Early afternoon we had music by Three Headed Stepchild getting the crowd “twisted” and ready for the 7 hot girls on hot bikes. Then the Banditz took the stage to keep the crowds entertained. What sets our contest apart from others is before going on stage the girls pose on bikes for the crowd to photo and pose with! First of all we see a religious person trying to get Jesus into a debate over “Just who is my neighbor?” The Bible says that this religious person was “willing to justify himself” religious people are always trying to find “a loop-hole” in the Gospel. Jesus started out by saying “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.” We must first notice that any time you step “Down” from your holy place; you open yourself up to an attack from the evil one. “And fell among thieves,” once again you can’t “fall” unless you first “go down from your holy place.” Secondly notice that the word “thieves” is plural, ever notice that your enemies that don’t like each other will always band together to come against you. Also we must take notice that thieves don’t rob people who are broke, so if the devil isn’t brothering you, maybe it’s because you are spiritually broke! Then they “stripped him” if you keep the whole amour of God on nobody can strip you. Then they “wounded him and left him half dead.” The problem with most Christians today is when we get a medical report of some kind of sickness we receive it as the “half dead” report. Instead we should be focused on

the “Half Alive Report,” If you focus on the “half dead” report then you’ll submit to the disease, but if you’ll focus on the Word of God, the “Half Alive report” you’ll live and come out of it. But then we notice “a certain priest (Pastor) came and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.” This pastor represents religion and when this pastor examined this wounded and half dead man “he crossed over to the other side.” Then after that “a Levite came by and looked at him and he passed by on the other side.” This Levite represents the law, authority and order, but “he crossed over to the other side.” This is what we are seeing today, the religions and the laws that were designed to protect and help us have “crossed over to the other side-THE DARK SIDE.” I can only imagine how this “stripped, wounded, and half dead” man must have felt when he heard the footsteps of the first man coming closer to him and to see that it was a pastor, how his heart was glad to see it was a pastor, he knew he was saved, but only to hear the same footsteps walking away, then to hear more footsteps coming, but only to hear them walking away as well. If a pastor won’t help and the Levite won’t help, all must have seemed lost to the half dead man. But then he heard more footsteps coming: “But a certain Samaritan came, and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.” The Samaritans were considered to be the lowest form of life, kind of like “Bikers.” The Bible said this Samaritan (Biker) “went to him, bound up his wounds, poured oil (straight 50 weight) and wine on his wounds, set him on his own beast (bike), and brought him to an Inn (Church). The last thing “The Good Samaritan” (biker) said the Inn keeper: “Take care of him…and when I COME AGAIN, I will repay thee.” Just remember that “Jesus Is Coming Again” and “He will repay” us, wither we were the ones “That Crossed over To the Other Side” or if we were the ones that “had compassion and helped out the wounded, half-dead man.” Sometimes the very ones you should expect to help you, don’t and the lest likely ones are the very ones that come to your rescue. So it’s not all the “black T-shirt” bikers that I’m concerned about, it’s some of the well dressed teachers and some of the ones with the white collars on that are molesting our children. American Motorcyclist Association Members Select America’s 15 Best Motorcycling Roads PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The results are in, and communities nationwide are the winners. Members of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) voted on their favorite roads in America, and the top 15 selections represent scenic highways and byways throughout the country. “When it comes to the best places in the country to ride motorcycles, no group of riders is more knowledgeable than AMA members,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “No group puts in more miles, samples more asphalt or rides more roads. “By publicizing our favorite roads in American Motorcyclist magazine, AMA members will seek out these destinations and bring tourism dollars into local communities through the purchase of food, fuel, lodging and more,” Dingman said. The editors of American Motorcyclist magazine used the 230,000-member, non-profit association’s website, AmericanMotorcyclist.com, to accept nominations and tally votes for members’ favorite roads. Nearly 100 roads made the ballot, and the magazine published the top 15 roads in the April issue as well as a list of “honorable mentions.” “Some of these roads are familiar to motorcyclists, and others may not be,” said Managing Editor James Holter. “They all have one thing in common: They’re the best roads in the country, as chosen by AMA members.” A countdown of the top 15 routes: 15. FORMER WISCONSIN SENATOR DAVE ZIEN INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

As we prepare to go to press, NCOM has just learned that longtime bikers’ rights activist Dave Zien, a former Wisconsin state senator and record-setting long distance rider, was involved in an early morning crash on Sunday, March 13th while attending Daytona Bike Week, and was taken by helicopter to the Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center and placed in intensive care. According to news accounts, an SUV traveling in front of Zien on Interstate 10 attempted to change lanes, lost control and flipped onto its side. Zien, 59, was unable to avoid the overturned vehicle. Early reports indicate that Zien lost part of his left leg and suffered a broken right hip. Zien is a longtime member of the NCOM Legislative Task Force who fought against helmet laws and for bikers’ rights during his 13 years in the state Senate, from 1993 to 2006. He’s been inducted into both the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame and the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and rode more than 1 million miles on a 1991 Harley-Davidson Sport Glide. Visiting him at the hospital, James “Doc” Reichenbach, Chairman of the NCOM Board of Directors, reports that Dave is alert and preparing for extensive surgery on his fractured hip, but remains in good spirits and already talking about riding again. “Please thank everyone for their well-wishes and for keeping me in their hearts,” Zien said, adding “I’m lucky to be alive.” Please keep Dave in your thoughts and prayers, and NCOM wishes him all the best on his road to recovery.

CHILI RUBBED, MAPLE-GLAZED PORK CHOPS 4 tsp. Ancho Chili Powder (in any Spice aisle 1 tsp. Sea Salt or Kosher Salt (any coarse salt) 1/2 tsp. Ginger 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon 4 X-Large, Center Cut, Bone-In Pork Chops; Thick 6 Tbls. Balsamic Vinegar 1 Cup Maple Syrup 1 Cup Chicken Stock 1/2 Stick Butter Combine first 5 ingredients in a small bowl. This will be your “Rub”. Rub mixture into meat generously. Get it in there deep and well-coated; both sides. Let rest at room temp. for about 15 mins. while you get a cast iron skillet really hot over medium-high heat. Drizzle in some olive oil, along with a couple pats of butter. Make sure chops cook golden brown on both sides. You can reduce heat to medium-low and let go to make sure of donenes. Reduce down your Balsamic vinegar in a small pot over medium-high heat. Just keep it cooking till it thickens up. Add maple syrup abd chicken stock and 1/2 stick of butter. Bring down to medium heat and just let go about 7 minutes until thick. Turn heat to pork chops off. Pour glaze generously all over chops, but save enough as a dipping sauce. Cover chops and let saturate glaze for about 5 minutes. This recipe will become one of your favorite go-to’s when fixing chops. Simply delicious!

1 Can of Apple Pie Filling (in any Baking aisle) 3 Tbls. of Butter or quality Margarine 1 Tbl. Cinnamon 2 Tbls. Honey or Maple Syrup In small skillet, mix all and then just let simmer on med-low until thick and heated throughout. Ezy Pzy!

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME” PINK LEMONADE CUPCAKES inspired by segment; Paula Deen’s Best Dishes. She and son Jamie made a layer cake. 2 Sticks Unsalted Butter; softened 1 White Cake Box Mix 1 tsp. Finely Grated Lemon Zest 2 tsps. Vanilla Extract 3 Tbls. Pink Lemonade Drink Powder; your choice Prepare mix as per box directions. Add above ingredients. Use cupcake pan liners. Makes clean-up easy. Pour each cupcake liner 3/4 full so you’ll get big, round-top cupcakes. If you have 2 cupcake tins, use both tins and put on separate oven racks. PINK LEMONDADE FROSTING 1 Pound; (16 ozs.) Confectioner’s Sugar 6 Tbls. Frozen Pink Lemonade Concentrate 1 tsp. Vanilla 1 tsp. Finely Grated Lemon Zest While cupcakes are cooking, with a hand-mixer, blend the butter and sugar first, then add the rest of ingredients and beat until smooth & fluffy. Let cupcakes cool out of tins and on a rack until SUPER RICH & CREAMY, PEARL ONIONS cooled. Frost generously and enoy 1 Bag of Pre-Skinned, Frozen Pearl Onions (make it completely with a big glass of ice-cold milk. Don’t forget to easy on yourself. Skinning pearl onions is tedious! make wish! Wish for more. trust me.....I did it when testing this recipe) Ugh! 1 Cup of Heavy Cream SUPER SIMPLE TARTS; ANY FLAVOR 1 Cup of Chicken Stock 1 Box of Frozen Puff Pastry; thawed 1 Tbl. of Parsley Each box contains 2 sheets. Lay both sheets out 1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder on counter; side by side. Brush w/ melted butter 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg and cut each sheet into 6 squares. Fill with any Salt & Pepper to taste filling you want; pears, peaches, blueberries, Just pour 1-1/2 to 2 cups of frozen pearl onions into apples, blackberries....add a dollop of cream a medium pot. Add all the rest of your ingredients cheese; anything you want. Take one square and then get it hot & bubbly, then turn down to low and place on top of square w/ Take a fork and let it thicken up. This makes the most fantastic, and tine the edges, poke holesfilling. in the top of each thick, creamy sauce for pearl onions. The sauce is one to vent, sprinkle tops with raw, sugar and so fantastic you’ll be thinking up other uses for it! If bake at 350 degrees for 25 mins. or until golden you make this dish in advance and let it sit overnight brown and crispy. Serve hot w/ ice-cream. Yum! the flavors intensify greatly. Gets better.

Even though I’ve been going to Bike Week in Daytona for more years than I care to count, the old spark still flames up when I approach town and see all the motorcycle activity. Yeah, I know, I complain about the traffic and the high prices, but I still get a “thrill” knowing I’m in the midst of the biggest party in the world!! As always, Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Ol’ Skool Bike Show on Thursday of Bike Week is a “must-do” for me! This year, I had the pleasure of meeting a pair of world renowned bike builders...Dave Perewitz, and Ron Finch, as well as a host of superb local builders, many of whom were competing in Willie’s show. Perewitz donated a beautiful and very unusual trophy, as did Miami builder, Nicky Boots. Huge crowd this year...lots of beautiful little hotties skittering around the grounds. There were a lot of fantastic old school custom bikes there too!! Who were the winners...? Call Willie, he has all the names (I think!!) Ride safe, and support yer local motorcycle club!!

You pick up a hitchhiker, a beautiful young girl. Suddenly she faints inside your car. You do the right thing and immediately take her to a hospital. Now that’s stressful. But at the hospital, they say she is pregnant & congratulate you that you are going to be a father. You say that you are not the father, but the girl swears that you are. This is getting much more stressful. So then, you request a DNA test to prove that you are not the father. After the tests are completed, the doctor says that you are infertile, and probably have been since birth, so you are definitely not the father. You are extremely stressed but also relieved. On your drive home you make a vow to never pick up hitchhikers again. And then, your mind slowly drifts to your wife and 4 kids at home. A small zoo in Arkansas obtained a very rare species of gorilla. Within a few weeks the gorilla, a female, became very difficult to handle. Upon examination, the Veterinarian determined the problem. The gorilla was in heat. To make matters worse, there was no male gorilla available. Thinking about their dilemma, the Zoo Keeper’s first idea was of Bobby Lee, a redneck part-time worker responsible for cleaning the animal cages. Bobby Lee had little sense but possessed ample ability to satisfy a female of any species. Herein, the Zoo Keeper thought they might have a solution. Bobby Lee was approached with a proposition: Would he be willing to mate with the gorilla for $500.00? Bobby Lee showed some interest, but said he would have to think the matter over carefully. The following day, he announced that he would accept their offer, but only under certain conditions: “First,” Bobby Lee said, “There aint gonna’ be no kissin’ her on the lips.” The Zoo Keeper quickly agreed to this condition. “Also”, he continued “you can’t never tell no one, no body about this.” The Keeper again readily agreed to this condition. And,” Bobby Lee said, “I want any youguns’ raised Southern Baptist.” Once again it was agreed. “And finally,” Bobby Lee said, “I’ll need another week to come up with the whole $500.dollars.” A woman was patiently trying to help her husband set up his new computer. He however was acting annoyed and impatient. She told him to choose a password for security purposes. He made it plainly obvious to his wife what he was entering by stating each letter out loud as he typed: P...E...N...I...S His wife fell off her chair laughing when the computer replied: Password Rejected. Not Long Enough.

A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her small daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication. She got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys in the car. She didn’t know what to do, so she called home and told the baby sitter what had happened. The baby sitter told her that the fever was getting worse. She said, “You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door.” The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been left on the ground. She knew just finding it there was a good sign. She looked at the hanger and said, “I don’t know how to use this.” She bowed her head and asked God to send her help. As soon as she raised her head, a beat up old motorcycle pulled up, with a weathered and tattered looking bearded man who was wearing a faded skull dew-rag on his head. He had full-sleeve tats on both arms. The woman sent a silent question up to Heaven, “This is what you sent to help me?” She was desperate, but also, she was extremely thankful. The man got off of his cycle and asked if he could help. The woman explained her situation. “Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?” He said, “Sure.” He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was opened. She hugged the man and through her tears she said, “Thank you so much! You are a very nice man.” The man replied, “Lady, I’m just a man. A man who got released from prison today. I was in prison for grand theft auto, and have only been out on the streets for about an hour.” The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud, “Oh, Thank You God! You even sent me a Professional”. A fifty-ish woman was at home happily jumping on her bed and squealing with delight. Her husband watches her for a while and asks, “Do you have any idea how ridiculous you look?, What’s the matter with you?” The woman continues to bounce on the bed and says, “I don’t care, I just came from having a mammogram and the Doctor said I have the breasts of an 18 year-old” The husband sarcastically replied , “What did he say about your 56 year old ass?” She quickly replied..... “Your name never came up,”

by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots: It was February 6, 1968 at the Lang Vei Special Forces Camp in Vietnam. The Lang Vei camp was about 8 kilometers from Khe Sanh and the famous Tet offensive was under way. CIDG (Civilian Irregular Defense Groups) and Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 101 were preparing to be attacked. An empty tank park had been found across the river in Laos just a week or two earlier and intelligence was reporting the movement of large forces towards the area. The camp defenses were prepared, rifles cleaned and oiled, ammunition positioned and steely eyed Green Berets planted their feet with resolve. The attack began with mortars and artillery. The rumble of PT76 tanks followed and brought a furious attack by North Vietnamese regulars that included tank fire, cannons, satchel charges, tear gas grenades, flame throwers, automatic rifles and other weapons. The lightly defended Lang Vei camp relied on artillery support from the Marines at Khe Sanh and American air power to fend off large attacks. Unfortunately the assault on Khe Sanh left Lang Vei without the support it needed to keep from being overrun. As the battle raged many in the camp were killed or wounded. Many of the defenders took refuge below ground in the concrete encased command post bunker. The North Vietnamese tried everything to kill the survivors. They fired relentlessly while throwing grenades and explosive charges into the bunker for hours. One of the brave Special Forces soldiers who gave his life at Lang Vei, Vietnam, was Army Specialist James Leslie Moreland. “James was born in Bessemer, Alabama on September 29, 1945. He graduated in 1963 from Western High School, Anaheim, California, where he played varsity football and baseball and was an All-Orange County linebacker.” He went on to Fullerton (Calif.) Junior College and entered the United States Army in October 1965 where he became a Special Forces medic.

American losses at Lang Vei were extreme. Many died, a few fought their way out, three were taken prisoner and held in North Vietnam until 1973. Nineteen men, including Specialist Moreland and First Lieutenant Paul R. Longgrear, were awarded the Silver Star – the nation’s third-highest military honor for heroism in combat – for their courage under fire that night. One soldier received the Medal of Honor; two others received the Distinguished Service Cross. Many of the medals were posthumously awarded. The Army citation for Moreland reads in part: “Braving withering cannon, mortar and machine gun fire, Specialist Moreland moved through a hail of bullets and shrapnel to treat the wounded.” He later helped fellow soldiers destroy a tank in the face of heavy fire and “with bullets striking all around him” went to resupply ammunition, the citation says. “He was seriously wounded when the position received a direct hit and was neutralized.” On May 14, 2011, the recently identified remains of James Leslie Moreland will be laid to rest in the state where he was born. The service at Ashby Cemetery in Briarfield, Alabama, may be one of the largest ceremonies in recent times for a returning Vietnam hero. Family, veterans, patriots and a long list of veteran’s organizations will be joined by the motorcycles of Rolling Thunder to welcome our brother home. James Leslie Moreland – “You Are Not Forgotten.” James is one brave link in the chain of service that has secured your liberty. Please ride to Briarfield and join us or at least take a moment to remember his sacrifice on May 14th. James couldn’t have imagined that as he comes home to his final rest another communist insurgency would be subverting our freedoms here. Do you have the resolve to plant your feet and protect American liberty from totalitarian rule? James did! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those can’t. Bulldog

NEWS BYTES NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) MOTORCYCLISTS AWAIT ROADBLOCK RULING Motorcycle riders across the country are anxiously awaiting a decision from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York which they hope will declare New York’s “motorcycle only” roadblocks to be unconstitutional. The so-called “safety checkpoints”, which target well-known motorcycle events, force motorcyclists to leave the roadway, regardless of any wrongdoing, and have their persons and property inspected for equipment violations, proper paperwork, DUI and stolen VIN numbers. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) is now providing Federal funding for law enforcement to conduct such motorcycle-only checkpoints nationwide despite objections raised by members of Congress and legal challenges from the biker community. The New York lawsuit is the first to challenge the constitutionality of motorcycle checkpoints. The plaintiffs are being represented by Proner & Proner, led by N.Y. Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) Attorney Mitch Proner, a motorcycle-riding lawyer who has a long history of doing “pro bono” (free) legal work to protect the rights of motorcyclists. The Proner law firm commenced the lawsuit on behalf of four motorcyclists who were detained at two separate checkpoints, as well as representing the interests of ABATE of New York and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM). The checkpoints in question are funded by a grant from the New York Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the troopers who work them are paid overtime. Although the stated purpose of the checkpoints is to promote safety, the majority of the more than a thousand tickets which were issued during the first year of the checkpoints had nothing to do with safety and instead focused on non-safety violations such as loud pipes. The written guidelines for the checkpoints specifically state that one of the purposes of the checkpoints is to look for stolen and forged VINs and the police readily admit that they often have undercover members of their gang and auto theft units working the checkpoints looking for signs of criminal activity. According to Proner, the Supreme Court of the United States has repeatedly made it clear that any roadway checkpoint whose primary purpose is general crime control constitutes an unreasonable search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment and is presumptively unconstitutional. Notwithstanding that fact, the progress reports which the police prepared on the checkpoints specifically state that the grant funds are used “for overtime for intelligence gathering and the subsequent criminal and traffic enforcement.” The police admit that the checkpoints, which focus only on equipment violations and forged and stolen VINs, do not address any of the major causes of motorcycle accidents such as reckless driving, driver inattentiveness and alcohol impairment. The case, Wagner et al. v. The County of Schenectady, et al. could wind up in the U.S. Supreme Court. The future of motorcyclists’ rights hangs in the balance. BILLS INTRODUCED TO PROHIBIT MOTORCYCLE-ONLY CHECKPOINTS Even as Georgia police prepared to launch the nation’s first federally-funded motorcycle-only checkpoints during Daytona Bike Week, lawmakers in Washington were taking steps to cut federal funding for the controversial practice. 26 Thunder Roads Kentucky

Wisconsin Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner, Paul Ryan and Tom Petri introduced House Resolution 904 on March 3rd that would prohibit the secretary of transportation from providing funds to state and local governments for the use of motorcycle-only traffic checkpoints. “The first step in motorcycle crash prevention should be rider education and increased awareness. Taxpayer money should not be spent on helmet checkpoints that do not prevent crashes,” Petri said in a news release. “Also, it’s outrageously intrusive. Nobody is suggesting pulling cars off the road for unscheduled inspections, so why are motorcycle riders being harassed?” “We stand in solidarity against the unconstitutional use of motorcycle-only checkpoints being implemented in Georgia, and may be coming to your state soon,” said Escondido Paul, National Lt. Commander of the US Defenders, in issuing a Call To Action (CTA) urging all motorcyclists to contact their federal officials to “solicit their support against grant money being used by the Federal Government to induce other States to participate in such discriminatory actions!” In related news, bills have been recently introduced in New Hampshire (HB 148) and California (AB 1047) to prohibit any state law enforcement agency from accepting federal funding to establish motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. SUPREME COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF MILITARY FUNERAL PROTESTORS Freedom of Speech was considered by our Founding Fathers to be our most important Constitutional right, which is why it is the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights, but the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling favoring the rights of hateful protestors over the dignity of a military funeral doesn’t sit well with some motorcyclists. In particular, the Patriot Guard Riders were formed in 2005 to protect the funerals of fallen warriors and shield mourners from the incendiary demonstrations waged by Westboro Baptist Church, which claims soldiers’ deaths are “divine retribution” for American tolerance of homosexuality. The High Court ruled 8-1 on Wednesday, March 9th with only Justice Sam Alito dissenting, that the First Amendment protects hateful protests at military funerals, despite the pain they cause grieving families. “Our soldiers fought to give Westboro the right to free speech,” said Mike Todd, a member of the Patriot Guard Riders from Reading, Michigan, noting the irony. Although describing the court’s holding as narrow, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority, saying of free speech; “It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and -- as it did here -- inflict great pain … we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker.” He said the national commitment to free speech requires protection of “even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate.” The case arose from a protest at the funeral of a Marine who had died in Iraq, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder. As with hundreds of other funerals, members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., appeared with signs bearing such messages as “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” and “America Is Doomed”. Well I cant believe it, but its finally here!! The beautiful an sonorous sound of dozens of V twins in the distance. Riding season is finally upon us. Thank you mother nature!! Here’s to mild days and long sweepers. But enough of that, this month I want to talk about personal memories of a legendary artist that I was proud to call my friend. Nope, he played guitar, but that’s not how he made his living. he was one of the most talented vocalists on the planet, but he was know for being the grooviest, funkiest drummers on the planet. His name was George Miles Jr. Everybody called him Buddy. That’s right Buddy Miles. Like all aspiring guitarists, I listened to Jimi Hendrix (I will do more on him on a later installment) and was influenced by any recording he put out. The Band of Gypsys album really caught my attention because it was a killer instrumental. I noticed on the liner notes (remember those?) the bass player and drummer had changed. It was Billy Cox (also a friend of mine) and Buddy Miles laying down the heaviest groove I had ever heard. It actually was so heavy I wore out two of the albums. Unfreakingbelievable! If you haven’t heard “Band of Gypsys, go out and pick it up. Tomorrow!! After the BOG’s fell apart, Jimi and Billy reunited with former experience drummer Mitch Mitchell. As far as I know, this was the last power trio configuration to perform live. You can see this band on the DVD “Blue Wild Angel” Jimi’s appearance at England’s Isle of Wight festival. This is where Im going with this. Buddy put together a horn driven band he named the Buddy Miles Express. I was really into R and B as a youngster and Buddy’s hit “Them Changes” really spoke to me. Of course my horn band at the time was Backstreet Carnival and we had to cover it. Fast forward about 25 yrs to a club I was gigging at in FT. Worth Texas called J and J Blues bar. It was a packed house and really a great gig. My band and I were hitting it on all cylinders that night, I men it was feeling GOOD!! In the back of the club I heard some yelling and carrying on, but I didn’t think much of it because we were after all at a roadhouse in Texas. Pretty common. Yeah right. The waitress came up to the edge of the stage and said “ Buddy Miles wants to talk to you”. HUH? Buddy Miles wants to talk to me?? I’ve never passed out at a gig before, but I almost did that night. I made a bee line to the back of the club and sure enough, there was the man himself in a tie dyed tshirt and enough gold chain to make Mr. T envious. After I got over the shock, I asked Buddy if he would like to get up and jam a little with us. He said “Yeah man, why do you think I wanted to see you” I will tell you this, after years of road gigs and playing with a bunch of my heros, I finally realized what this music biz is about. Its about the MUSIC!! That night the music I made with Buddy was, well in a word, Stellar. He sang and drummed just like I always thought he would. I knew I was in the presence of greatness. As long as I live I will never forget that night. Buddy and I became friends and he performed several festivals and gigs with me over the years. He graciously played on my Livin Large CD. So if you haven’t heard of George “Buddy” Miles, please check his music out. Buddy passed in 2008, but he will live forever in his recordings and in our memories. Miss you Bud!! Paradise Valley Motorcycle Rally & Guinness Book Of World Record Skinny Dip Spring And Fall 2010 by Bob Nadeau

Paradise Valley is a nudist resort which has events almost every weekend, from Christmas parties, Halloween parties, Fourth-of-July parties, Labor Day parties and everything in between, including the Guinness Book of World Records Skinny Dip. That’s right, Guinness Book of World Records Organization agreed to add a new category to their book. It’s for the largest number of people simultaneously skinny-dipping. The record was first set in July of 2009 with about twelve thousand naked people from all over the United States and Canada all in the water at three o’clock Eastern time. This year on July 10th they set out to beat last year’s record. I went up to Paradise Valley Resort in North Georgia so I could take pictures and report back to ya’ll. (I love this job.) The official number this year was 14,110, so as you can see they did set a new Guinness Book World Record. Sorry, but I only have pictures from Paradise Valley. Paradise Valley Resort is where the idea for a skinny-dipping world’s record was first hatched by a man named Randy Savage. Randy got Guinness to agree and then AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation) to coordinate with one hundred twenty-seven nudist resorts and legally sanctioned nude beaches across the United States and Canada to make it happen. This year Paradise Valley had three hundred eighty-eight people in their three pools. People come to Paradise Valley in Dawsonville from all over (Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida) to enjoy this resort.

that you would like to do it again. Why not go skinny dipping and help set a Guinness Book World Record? And hey, what better place to do that than a nudist resort? I mean a true resort. This place has three swimming pools, a hot tub, and a tiki bar by the pool, a restaurant, and a club house with a bar, a dance floor, and pool tables. There are condos to buy or rent, and trails to hike. (It would not be good for me to get out in the woods with a naked woman.) And there is more, lots more.

Each year they also host two motorcycle rallies put on by Bare Buns Bikers. B.G. of Bare Buns Bikers put on a great event for the spring rally that started with a motorcycle ride which looped Looks like this is going to be a yearly event. Now most of through the north you have been skinny-dipping a time or two and my guess is Georgia Mountains from Dawsonville to Ellijay and back to Dawsonville, all on curvy two lane roads. This was a poker run. The fall ride went from Dawsonville to Blood Mountain to Suches and back to Dawsonville and Paradise Valley.

Adding to my enjoyment of the spring and fall rides were the mountain laurel, honeysuckle, and magnolia, and driving my bike into a big field of yellow flowers. Hay was being harvested, and fields were being plowed for planting cotton, corn and sunflowers. The closer I got to Ellijay the more I saw apple orchards. Lots of apple orchards. Next came the biker games. Most biker games are done on motorcycles, but since these are held at a nudist resort, B.G. held the spring games near the pool or in the pool to include both the nudists and the bikers. All the contestants were nude. Now the fall rally games were held indoors on the dance floor. I won’t tell you about these games. You’ll have to come to the rally and see for yourself. All I’ll say is that B.G. has a great imagination when it comes to new games. Going to the dance at night was lots of fun. I liked the way the nudist women dressed for the dance. Lots of short leather skirts, very short, with seethrough blouses, and lots of other provocative ensembles. They were all very sexy. All the ladies had men with them, but to tell you the truth, I didn’t notice them much. The ones I did notice were ugly or funny looking. Just kidding.
