CALENDAR OF EVENTS LISTINGS Contact: Mechele “Me-Mac” MacDaniel, Events Calendar Administrator for TRM 615-496-1493 or, e-mail them to: events@thunderroadstennessee.com What’s on the site goes in the mag! Skydiving was incredible! Bikes have always been my closest connection with complete freedom; the wind, the surrounding beauty, the speed……..but this was all senses on alert, mind-blowing reality in your face, soaring like a bird FREEDOM! It was so in the moment and unforgettable and I recommend it to everyone, at least once in their life. We went to a place in Waverly, TN, and the instructors are all very competent. My Instructor had over 1,000 jumps under his belt so that too alleviates experience concerns. Just Do It! We will again, soon. Ocean City Bikefest in Maryland was everything a perfect rally should be…but then, why not, it’s done as all cities should do, the BBB gets Involved and welcomes the bikers with open arms, all the shops and restaurants run drink & dinner specials. OMG! I ate more crab meat in 5 days then I have in my entire life! And that’s some statement to make coming from a Florida Cracker who worships every seafood out there! It was however the most succulent, sweet, pure crab meat I have ever had in my life (look for article with pics next month). We’re totally looking forward to spending the whole day long at Harley-Davidson of Cool Springs on October 20th, hanging out with Rick, Cassie, LaVonda and all of the incredible “Cool Team”, who welcome us so graciously with big hugs, genuine happiness and joy. Love it all. Please come out and say Hi! to us and let’s just bask in a Beautiful Fall day. You know all the leaves will be changing by then, so grab a group of your buds and head out, but make sure you take the scenic route so you don’t miss all those gold, red and orange leafs. It will be a day filled with positivity and sunshine; I just feel it.

Oh….FINALLY!, God presented to me my beautiful little Blue Russian kitten. I obtained her from Cheatham County Animal Shelter and she is adorable, although half wild. They found the litter out in the woods, abandoned, as someone probably shot or the mama was run over. But shelter kitties and dogs ALWAYS are the most appreciative, so please, think shelters when looking for a pet. But my little “Savi” is just one of the Thunder Zoo now and fits right in. I adore animals. We’re starting the back half of our house, so that’s a major blessing also. At first I was resistant and told Brian we had all we needed in the 1,500 s.f. of our “half house”, but then he pointed out that he’d like to be able to have a shower big enough to bend over without busting out the sides and I had the light bulb moment. He does deserve a massive tile shower and anything else he wants. He’s the Contractor after all! We love you bikers! toni & brian

35th Annual

Redwood Run 2012 / The Raz Report June 8-10: It’s the hard-core old school bikers that come to Northern California’s Redwood Run for round the clock music and entertainment jam-packed into one weekend. - Still ABSOLUTELY the BEST party of the year! - Still a bargain at $120/ticket for the 2-day multi-band concert! - Still a mellow friendly time to meet long time friends from afar! Often times, the unscheduled entertainment in the pit will also include a medley of colorful attendees vying for the attention from anyone with a camera. Whew! a lot people to see in all manner of dress and undress...what more can I say? This year, The Kiwanis of the Redwoods returned the event back to the popular Riverview Ranch in Piercy. As soon as the gates opened, bikers were setting up their tents in their favorite campsites of previous years. And like everyone else, we returned to our favorite place at the Riverview Ranch Apple Flat. This year a few of the local Ferndale gals cleverly decorated the apple tree at our campsite with their colorful sexy bras. Hmmm…maybe that’s what attracted those Oregon fellows to set up their tents not too far away from the apple tree! Our 227 mile ride from Orangevale (Sacramento) to Piercy was COLD on Friday morning – so we made a few extra pitstops – once for coffee in Lake County and then again in Laytonville at Boomer’s Saloon for some hot chocolate with a little sumthin-sumthin in it. Brrrrrr…hard to believe it is June, but you never know what kind of weather to expect behind the redwood curtain – so you prepare for it all. Let’s just say that Mother Nature was not pms’ing this year – so there was a lot of exposed skin celebrating her good mood! Outstanding acoustics provided by the au natural amphitheatre of the Eel River bluffs as sixteen kick ass bands ROCKED the crowd. Stick Martin Show, Savannah Blue, Mike Osburn, Rubber Side Down, Ronnie Montrose Tribute Band featuring Michael Lee Firkins, Pat Travers, Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real, Charlie Brechtel, Unauthorized Rolling Stones, Low Fill Band, Kaye Bohler, Amanda Gray & Whiskey Savage, Skinny Molly, II Big and The Fryed Brothers. DRAT! Savannah Blue played at 10:30am Friday... as I was leaving for the grocery store in Garberville & really hated to miss their performance, hoped they would play again later... wrong. JOLT! Lukas Nelson...hmmm, Willie’s kid probably riding on his dad’s name, going to be a yawn show. WRONG - holy KRAP!! GREAT SHOW Lukas...and in the middle of the show there’s a power failure... do you like drums like I do? Drummer Anthony LoGerfo never missed a beat... kept right on playing... di’nt need any power – just flashlights. 10 maybe 15 minutes later the power came back on, the band picked up their guitars and joined back in. EXTRA! The Fryed Brothers, scheduled to start at 11:30pm Saturday night started at 9pm and played for THREE HOURS!!! RIGHT FUGGIN ON!!! Brad White of White Hawk Designs took on the task as emcee for the weekend. He kept the crowd entertained with several impressive swag giveaways including a power commander (Classic Air Custom Motorcycles in Cameron Park) an autographed electric guitar (Bones Roadhouse Bar & Grub in Placerville), a bucket of booze (Boomer’s Saloon in Laytonville), tattoo gift certificates (Sunset Design Company in Sacramento) and other biker stuff donated by many generous vendors. It was fun watching Brad inter act with the crowd as he would ask folks to “show me” something (for example: a tattoo with a Harley-Davidson bar & shield) and you could “win this”! But, the ultimate “show me” something contest is the annual wet t shirt contest. Raz says …you gotta look… boobs are a lot like that too... doesn’t matter that you have seen a pair before... you still gotta look! You can bet that most of the tents are empty as a majority of the Redwood Run crowd swarms the stage during the highly anticipated wet-shirt contest! And, if you feel the need to get a closer looksie - the Kiwanis of the Redwoods will offer front row seats for anyone willing to pay for them! Of course, another highly important job is the person that pours ice cold water onto the girl’s little white t shirts. Al won the privilege of being the ice water bucket man for the wet T-shirt contest... who is Al? He is a retired local dairy farmer 72 years young and still riding and partying on!!! RIGHT ON - AL! These donations are used towards scholarships for the local kids - talk about resourceful fundraising! The surrounding Mendocino and Humboldt communities welcome bikers as they roll through their town enroute to the Redwood Run. Congratulations again to the Kiwanis of the Redwoods crew for another outstanding performance and hard work to keep everything rolling without any glitches. Special thanks to the Modified Motorcycle Association who returned this year to provide onsite security. … would be easy to take these dudes and the job they do for granted. Thank you very much! Glad to have everyone working together for the continued growth and success of this annual biker tradition. 36th Annual Redwood Run - June, 2013 Get there... the cost is a bargain... the distance... no big deal... Was talking w/ a woman who is actually an experienced cook, but she said she had never prepared “country-fried” or “chicken-fried” (both terms means the same method of cooking) pork chops or steak, which was amazing to me, so here’s the simple recipe.

COUNTRY-FRIED PORK CHOPS 101

8 Bone-In Pork Chops (Center Cut) 2 X-Large Eggs 2 Cups of Buttermilk 2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour Dash of Nutmeg Salt & Pepper to Taste A quality margarine, such as “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”. Don’t use cheap margarine or else you’ll dang sure have cheap tasting chops. Let your chops sit out about 15 mins. to get to room temperature while you pour your milk into a glass pie plate or any bigger bottomed, shallow bowl. Crack your two eggs into your milk and beat gently w/ a fork. Add your dash of nutmeg. Now pour your 2 cups of flour into a highersided, big bottomed bowl. Get as large a skillet as you got (I always use one of those long, electric skillets), as then I can do all my pork chops at one time. Go ahead and take a chop in left hand and dip into milk bath. I always poke at the meat a bit while in milk bath to tenderize it and let it soak up, then again take your left hand and transfer the chop over to your right hand mid-air and then proceed onto the flour bowl. You keep your dip hand and flour hand separate so that you don’t end up with two gooey hands and drag a bunch of flour into milk bath. But while your chop is in the flour, pat it well and coat it good on one side then flip over and pat it again to coat well. Place on a plate and finish up dunking and dredging the remaining chops. Get your skillet up to medium hot, add 2 big tablespoons of margarine and melt down till sizzling. Arrange your chops so they all fit in your skillet but there’s plenty of room and no parts of chop are overlapping other chops. Salt & pepper uncooked side and then, gently life after one side has cooked for apprx. 4 minutes and make sure they are a true, golden brown, flip them, and salt & pepper the other side. You may need to add a few more pats of margarine around sides and kinda’ work up under chops to ensure that the just flipped side gets as evenly golden brown as the original side. Remove from skillet when done and plate up right away. Serve w/ fried apples or apple fritters or anything? apples! I’ll take a country-

fried pork chop over a steak any day of the week! *Note* If you dont have a long, electric skillet, then just do 2 batches, but be sure you place first batch in oven on low to keep hot. Don’t foil tent them or they’ll lose all their crispiness and just end up with a mushy top.

SIMPLE AS 1,2,3......CHEESE “BISKITS”

Only 3 ingredients: 1-1/4 Cups *Bisquick Brand Boxed Biscuit Mix 1/2 Cup Grated Sharp Cheddar Cheese 1/2 Cup Water Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place a silicone pad on a cookie sheet. Combine the biscuit mix and cheese in a small bowl. Add the water and stir until combined. Don’t over-mix. Just combine. Dough will be a bit moist. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto silicone pad and leave enough room for them to expand. Bake for about 10 minutes until they firm up but are nice and brown. Serve with honey butter. Just that simple, just that quick! *These are our daughter’s alltime fave. Hence, her nickname...”Biskit”.

GRANNY OLLIE’S BUTTERMILK PIE

1-1/2 Cups Sugar 1 Cup Buttermilk 1/2 Cup Bisquick Biscuit Mix 1/2 Cup Real Butter; melted 1-1/2 tsps. Pure Vanilla Extract 3 Large Eggs Get your oven up to 350 degrees. Grease or spray a 9-inch pie pan. Put all ingredients in a medium bowl and beat for 1 minute with handheld electric mixer or if you don’t have a hand mixer, just beat by hand until all ingredients mixed well. Pour mixture into prepared pie pan and bake for apprx. 50 minutes. Insert a toothpick into center and if it comes out clean.....it’s done! Cool for 5 minutes and let pie solidify and firm up. Slice and serve good and warm. Take a can of Extra Creamy Whipcream and make little flower dollops all over the top and place a rasberry or blueberry in center of each dollop. This is truly a little slice of Heaven from my Granny Ollie, up in Heaven.

STEVE MCQUEEN ~ THE KING OF COOL

HIS LEGEND LIVES ON IN NEW TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES If you have not heard of Steve McQueen, then you were not born in the “baby boomer” generation or don’t have cable or satellite TV and the Ted Turner network of old movies. So, first some background to get you up to speed.

The Man Terrence Stephen “Steve” McQueen was the movie actor nicknamed “The King of Cool”. His “anti-hero” persona, which he developed at the height of the Vietnam counterculture, made him one of the top box-office draws of the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Sand Pebbles. His other popular films include The Magnificent Seven, The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt, The Getaway, Papillon, and

This film established McQueen’s box-office clout and cemented his status as a superstar. He was an avid racer of both motorcycles and cars. While he studied acting, he purchased the first of many motorcycles, a used Harley Davidson, and began to earn money by competing in weekend motorcycle races at Long Island City Raceway. He soon became an excellent racer, and came home each weekend with about $100 in winnings which helped support him at this time. He also continued competitive motorcycle racing while he was a successful actor and to avoid notoriety and conflicts with his studio contracts which didn’t allow him to race (so as not to risk the actors safety) he would register for desert races and scrambles under the

alias “Harvy Mushman” to avoid detection. His first off-road motorcycle was a Triumph 500cc that he purchased from friend and stunt man Ekins. McQueen raced in many top off-road races on the West Coast, including the Baja 1000, the Mint 400 and the Elsinore Grand Prix. In 1964, with Ekins on their Triumph TR6 Trophys. He also represented the United States in the International Six Days Trial, a form of off-road motorcycling Olympics which is one of the most prestigious events of it’s kind in the world. In 1971, Solar Productions funded the now-classic motorcycle documentary On Any Sunday, in which

Inspired by the famous Triumph Trophy TR6 that McQueen rode in Great Escape The Towering Inferno and The Great Escape. In 1974, he became the highest-paid movie star in the world. Perhaps the most memorable motorcycle chase scene ever filmed was in The Great Escape. Although the jump over the fence was actually done by Bud Ekins for insurance purposes, McQueen did have a considerable amount of screen time riding his 650cc Triumph TR6 Trophy motorcycle. It was difficult to find riders as skilled as McQueen. At one point, due to clever editing, McQueen is seen in a German uniform chasing himself on a motorcycle.

STEVE MCQUEEN ~ THE KING OF COOL

McQueen is featured along with racing legends Mert Lawwill and Malcolm Smith. Also in 1971, McQueen was on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine riding a Husqvarna dirt bike. He was inducted in the Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1978. In November 1999, McQueen was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame where he was credited with contributions including financing the film On Any Sunday, supporting a team of off-road riders, and enhancing the public image of motorcycling overall.

His Machines McQueen collected MANY classic motorcycles. By the time of his death, his collection included was valued in the millions of dollars. Many of his bikes continue to pop up at auctions and bring very high prices because they were owned and ridden by Steve. Except for three motorcycles sold with other memorabilia in 2006, most of McQueen’s collection of 130 motorcycles was sold 4 years after his death. One of his motorcycles, a 1937 Crocker, sold for a world-record price of $276,500 at a Bonhams & Butterfields auction in Los Angeles.

His death and the Colorado Connection Like many actors of his era, he was a heavy cigarette smoker. McQueen developed a persistent cough in 1978 and he gave up smoking and underwent antibiotic treatments without improvement. Shortness of breath became more pronounced and in December 1979 a biopsy revealed pleural mesothelioma, a type of cancer associated with asbestos exposure for which there is no known cure. A few months before his death, McQueen had given a medical interview in which he blamed his condition on asbestos exposure. While McQueen felt that asbestos used in movie soundstage insulation and race-drivers’ protective suits and helmets could have been involved, he believed his illness was a direct result of massive exposure while removing asbestos lagging from pipes aboard a troop ship during his time in the Marines. By February 1980, there was evidence of widespread metastasis. While he tried to keep the condition a secret, the National Enquirer disclosed that he had “terminal cancer” on March 11, 1980. In July, McQueen traveled to Rosarito Beach for unconventional treatment after U.S. doctors advised him that they could do nothing to prolong his life. He was driven to Mexico by Ed (Iron Man) Kretz Sr. who was a fellow motorcycle racer. Many pictures of Steve and Ed can be seen in the Ed Kretz, jr private mu-

seum collection in Sedalia, Colorado and Ed junior has many interesting stories to tell about Steve! In late October 1980, McQueen traveled to Ciudad Juárez to have an abdominal tumor on his liver removed, despite the warnings of his U.S. doctors that the tumor was inoperable and that his heart would not withstand the surgery. McQueen checked into a Juarez clinic under the assumed name of “Sam Shepard” where the doctors and staff at the small, low-income clinic were unaware of his real identity. McQueen died of cardiac arrest on November 7, 1980 at the age of 50. That date will always mark the passing of a legend.

The New Breed Steve McQueen Triumphs Steve McQueen lives on through two tribute motorcycles from Triumph. In 2008, a limited run of only 300 Steve McQueen Triumph-inspired UK manufactured replica Rickman-Métisse Desert Racers were built and released for sale to the public. When he was interviewed back in the day McQueen said, “The best way I’ve found to get the combination of light weight and power is with a bike I put together with the assistance of the Ekins brothers in our valley shop. I used a Rickman-Metisse frame -- a revolutionary piece of equipment that does away with the oil tank. The oil circulates through the tubes of the frame, which keeps it cool. That’s especially important when you’re racing or driving under hard conditions. It helps to avoid breakdowns and should make piston seizures quite rare.” McQueen fitted Ceriani forks with 7.5-inches of travel ‘for a real smooth ride’, and BSA yokes which he believed were the strongest around at the time. “It’s real important for me because I’ve hit bumps so hard sometimes that I’ve actually bent the handlebars” said McQueen. The Metisse replica sold new for about $18,750. Now they are releasing another bike, the Bonneville T100 Steve McQueen Special Edition, which will be sold worldwide. Only 1,100 of these special Triumphs will be produced but the new McQueen “Trumpet” is a different style of machine. It is based on a standard Bonneville T100, which will be equipped with certain modified parts in order to replicate the Triumph Trophy TR6 that McQueen insisted on riding during the famous The Great Escape stunt scene. Wrapped in a matte khaki green, this classic motorcycle uses a black steel cradle frame, 41mm front fork, rear suspension springs and engine accents. Black wheel hubs and rims with wire spokes,

black headlight assembly, mirrors, handlebars and front fender support complete the dark theme. A single-person seat with a luggage rack replaces the pillion position. The limited run of replicas will also be identifiable by a numbered plaque adorned to the handlebar clamp. Suggested retail price is $9,999, which is a bargain compared to most other motorcycles without any pedigree and far less than what a collectible classic Triumph of the 1960’s or 1970’s is bringing on the open market. And if you have any money left after placing an order for your Steve McQueen Special Edition Triumph, you can go to Pebble Beach for the motorcycle auction August 17-19, 2012 and meet Steves wife, Ms Barbara McQueen who will be selling and autographing copies of her book “Steve McQueen The Last Mile” about her life and times with him. If you can’t make Pebble Beach, you can order a copy of the book on line at www.daltonwatson.com. Whiskyman Steve McQueen’s 1964 FIM racing license brought a bid of $42,700 at Bonhams & Butterfields motorcycle auction in Southern California. The scrambles (motocross) and trials (Six-day) license, which is dated 1964, include an iconic passport-style photo of the “King of Cool” smiling into the camera. The FIM document not only included McQueen’s signature, but his address at the time—1411 S. nor Cain wanted to go, so they had to be “Driven,” because of some resistance on their part. The same is true in Mark 1:12 the “flesh” of Jesus did not want to go into the “wilderness,” this was a place that was burning hot in the day and freezing cold at night, no “Soul-Prep” water, no food, complete loneliness. The Spirit inside “Soul preparation” is very similar to the preparation of Christ was the full Godhead, Jesus never sinned, but a bike before you paint it; the surface must be“clean, Jesus had to get control of His flesh, this was the first without spot, wrinkle, blemish or any such things.” Most of many victories for Christ over His flesh. Matt.26:37 ministers, church members and Christian Patch Holders Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane and asked run into “Adversity in Ministry” and if we have not done God: “Father, if it were possible let this cup pass from our “Soul-prep” then we will cave in and quit. The me.” Jesus knew the whipping post was coming, bible talks about our “weapons of warfare…no weap- the cross was coming, the separation from God was on formed against us will prosper,” but I have found coming and His flesh wanted out! But He said “not my out that if you’re not in a battle, you don’t need any will but thy will be done.” He got control of His flesh. weapons! One of the biggest problems Christians have He could have called ten thousand angels down to today is they don’t use the weapons God gave us or relieve Him form the whipping post and the cross, but we use them incorrectly. The first big battle we all have He had control of His flesh. Heb.4:15 “He was tempted is “Temptation,” this was the first thing Jesus had to in all points like we are, yet without sin.” Jesus had to deal with when He started His ministry. Mark 1:12 “And conquer His flesh so that we can now conquer ours. immediately the Spirit driveth Him into the wilderness.” The way to obtain victory over the flesh is to deny the Jesus just got baptized by John the Baptist, God spoke flesh what it wants, when it wants it and how it wants it. conformation over Him, and “immediately the Spirit We too must have a“wilderness experience” a time of drivethHim into the wilderness.” Here is where some fasting. Fasting is denying the flesh what it wants. The of you are going to get your religious panties in a wad Bible says that“after He (Jesus) had fasted for forty but if you will study this out, you’ll find out how to have days and nights…the tempter came to Him.” Notice victory over “Temptation.” The word “driveth” implies that the devil only comes when you are at your weak“a resistance,” it is the same word used in Gen. 3:24 est point “after He had fasted for forty days and forty “So He drove out the man” God drove out Adam & nights.” But we must understand that the “Fast was Eve from the Garden. Gen.4:14 “Behold, thou hast not the temptation, The Fast was the preparation for the driven me out this day from the face of the earth.” temptation.” Fasting prepares the body for denial and Cain was being driven out by God. Adam and Eve, preps the soul to win over temptation. If you can’t control your flesh; you’ll never be able to control your spirit man. When the devil said “If thou be the Son of God?” , the devil knew who Jesus was, but he had never seen Jesus in a body, the flesh, so he attacked the flesh just like he did the Adam in the Garden. The difference was that Jesus succeeded where Adam failed. “Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up.” To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

Three vampires walk into a bar. The waitress comes up to them and asks them what they’ll have. ? The first vampire says, (Transylvanian accent inferred) “I’ll have a glass of O Positive.” The second vampire says, “I’ll have a glass of O Negative.” The third vampire says, “I’m the designated driver. I’ll just have a glass of plasma.” The waitress turns toward the bartender and yells, “Gimme’ two bloods and one blood lite!” A couple was invited to a swanky masked Halloween Party. She got a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He, being a devoted husband, protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed, and there was no need of his good time being spoiled bynot going. So he took his costume and away he went. The wife, after sleeping soundly for one hour, awakened without pain, and as it was still early, she decided to go to the party. In as much as her husband did not know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him. She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every hot chick he could, and copping a little feel here and a little kiss there. His wife moved on up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he lmmediately turned his attention to her. They were both getting turned on so agreed to go out to her car for a “quickie”. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away and went home and put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would have for his wild behavior. She was sitting up reading when he came in and asked what kind of a time he had. He said, “Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time when you’re not there.” Then she asked, “Did you dance much?” He replied, “Honestly, I never even danced one dance. When I got there, I met Pete, Bill Brown and some other guys, so we went into the den and played poker all evening. But I’ll tell you what, the guy I loaned my costume to damn sure had a real good time between all the dancing, groping, and trips to the parking lot!”. Q: Why did the vampire need mouthwash? A: She had bat breath. Q: Why wasn’t the vampire working? A: He was on his coffin break. Q: Why did the vampire’s lunch give her heartburn? A: It was a stake sandwich.

Two guys left the bar after a long night of drinking, jumped in the car and started it up. After a couple of minutes, an old man appeared in the passenger window and tapped lightly. The passenger screamed, “Look at he window. There’s an old ghost’s face there!” The driver sped up, but the old man’s face stayed in the window. The passenger rolled his window down part way and, scared out of his wits, said, “What do you want?”The old man softly replied, “You got any tobacco?”The passenger handed the old man a cigarette and yelled, “Step on it,” to the driver, rolling up the window in terror. A few minutes later they calmed down and started laughing again. The driver said, “I don’t know what happened, but don’t worry; the speedometer says we’re doing 80 now. ”All of a sudden there was a light tapping on the window and the old man reappeared.“There he is again,” the passenger yelled. He rolled down the window and shakily said, “Yes?” “Do you have a light?” the old man quietly asked. The passenger threw a lighter out the window saying, “Step on it!”They were driving about 100 miles an hour, trying to forget what they had just seen and heard, when all of a sudden there came some more tapping. “Oh my God! He’s back!” The passenger rolled down the window and screamed in stark terror, “WHAT NOW?” The old man gently replied, “You guys want some help getting out of the mud?”

One dark night Bubba & Buck were walking home after a party and decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery, just for laughs. Right in the middle of the cemetery they were startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from the misty shadows.Trembling with fear, they found an old man with a hammer and chisel, chipping away at one of the headstones.“Holy cow, Mister,” Bubba said, after catching his breath, “You scared the crap outa’ us, we thought you was a real-time, ghost! What the hell are you doing working here so late at night?” “Those idiots!” the old man grumbled. “They misspelled my damn name!”

Life is good in the South.

On the night of a Halloween costume party a couple were arguing, having trouble picking suitable outfits. After a while the wife got mad and stormed out of the room. Fifteen minutes later she came back completely naked except for a lemon between her legs. The husband looked at her for a moment and then stormed out of the room himself. Twenty minutes passed and then he stomped back in, completely naked, with a potato around his penis. The wife gave him a weird look, and the husband quickly replied; “If you’re going as a sour-puss, I’m going as a dictator”.

FEDERAL HIGHWAY SAFETY GRANTS IN JEOPARDY Despite a spike in traffic fatalities, states could lose as much as $120 million in highway safety grants if Congress doesn’t change a planned bill to fund the government’s operations for six months. Congress passed a new highway bill this year that streamlines the federal grant process that provides state funds for alcohol-impaired and distracted driving prevention, increased occupant protection, motorcycle safety, teen driving safety and data collection. Under the typical rules for a continuing resolution, new programs such as those authorized under the highway bill cannot be funded.

HAMC v. Napolitano et al. (1:12-cv-1357) disputes the Obama administration’s foreign policy that declares “the Hells Angels, the Outlaws, Bandidos, and the Mongols” to be organized crime groups and is seeking an injunction allowing foreign members to be granted visas to travel to the U.S. In its lawsuit, the group claims the government routinely denies visas “to all aliens based solely on their membership in a Hells Angels charter without further analysis into whether or not that individual seeks to enter the United States to engage solely, principally, or incidentally in unlawful activity.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently reported that its estimate of all traffic deaths for the first quarter of 2012 show a 13.5% increase to the highest number since 2008. The substantial increase is the second-largest quarterly jump in traffic deaths since NHTSA began tracking deaths on a quarterly basis in 1975 -- and the biggest since 1979. NHTSA reported the rate of traffic deaths per 100 million miles of vehicle travel increased significantly to 1.1 fatalities per 100 million miles traveled during the first three months, up from 0.98 in the same period last year, with 7,630 fatalities compared to 6,720 in the first quarter of 2011. The increase would end a steady decline in U.S. road deaths over the last seven years, falling last year to their lowest number since 1949. HEAD OF MOTORCYCLE CRASH STUDY RESIGNS OVER CONCERNS Dr. Samir Ahmed, the Oklahoma State University researcher who has been heading up the latest motorcycle crash causation study, announced that he was leaving the program in a Sept. 11 e-mail stating; “I am writing to let you know that I am no longer working on the motorcycle crash causation study. I have serious reservations about the value of study with the existing FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) involvement. My expectations of the study are very low.” Dr. Samir did not offer any further explanation as to the reservations he has regarding the FHWA involvement. The study was originally planned to examine 900 crashes but due to funding difficulties that was cut back to approximately 300, though the Case Counter on the FHWA website currently reads 100. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) had raised commitments from its members to provide $3 million to the study but decided not to make the money available for a study with fewer than the 900. It was decided then that the study would use only one location instead of the three that had been envisioned, and the reduced study got underway last year. In the meantime, the MSF has announced the conclusion of an unprecedented year-long Motorcycle Naturalistic Study in conjunction with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute designed to track comprehensive, real-time routine riding that likely included near crash, pre-crash, and actual crash data that had heretofore been unavailable. The study is yielding preliminary results that will be released at a later date. HELLS ANGELS SUE FEDS OVER BAN ON MEMBERS ENTERING THE U.S. NCOM Brothers Behind Bars Newsletter editor Mike Davis SOS MC Retired recently reported that the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club is going to court to protest a U.S. government policy barring the club’s foreign members from visiting the United States and is also fighting its federal designation as a “known criminal organization.” In a complaint filed in federal court in Washington, DC the Hells Angels Motorcycle Corporation names Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Alejandro Mayorkas who is the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and claims its designation as a “known criminal organization” by the

Lawyers for the club describe its membership as composed of loosely associated charters, “made up of motorcycle enthusiasts who have joined to ride motorcycles together, organize social events, fundraisers, parties and motorcycle rallies” and the group says any crimes committed by its members have been done as individual acts, and are not representative of the club as a whole. DEPUTY SUSPENDED FOR SEIZING BIKER’S CAMERA The Dallas County Sheriff’s office issued a 30-day suspension without pay to a deputy after footage showed him seizing a helmet-mounted camera from a motorcyclist as potential evidence of alleged crimes committed by other unidentified riders. A video viewed nearly 500,000 times on YouTube shows the Texas deputy on camera issuing this comment to the biker: “The reason you’re being pulled over is because I’m gonna take your camera and we’re gonna use it as evidence of in the crimes that have been committed by other bikers.” Our legal experts at AIM/NCOM (Aid to Injured Motorcyclists/ National Coalition of Motorcyclists) agree that the officer’s rationale does not constitute probable cause to make a traffic stop and does not justify seizing the camera, nor is it illegal to wear a camera on a helmet. The sheriff’s deputy eventually arrested the motorcycle rider and according to the Examiner newspaper he then tried to slam the door of the patrol car on the biker’s leg before hauling him off to jail. The biker was finally released and issued a ticket for only an obstructed license plate. The officer was also disciplined for leaving a drunk driver at the jail without booking him before going out on the call relating to motorcyclists riding on I-35. LONE STAR COURT RULES ON CELLPHONE SEARCHES Suds, Texas Commander of the U.S. Defenders/COIR Division, issued the following notice re: Texas Court of Appeals Opinion on Cellphone Searches -Our AIM/NCOM Attorney Bill Smith shared an important decision made by the Texas Court of Appeals about evidence retrieved from a cellphone without a search warrant. The Court rules in favor of the people. The opinion cited a case where an individual was arrested on one charge, and based on hearsay, an investigating detective went to the property room of the jail and retrieved the individual’s cellphone and scrolled through the photos he had stored on it. Originally arrested for disorderly conduct, the defendant now had to face an indictment of improper photography or visual recording. Prosecutors argued that a jailed individual had no rights to expectation of privacy. The Texas Court of Appeals disagreed and stated that while an inmate has no reasonable expectation of privacy in his cell, his/her stored property does fall under reasonable expectation of privacy. It is not as though the officer saw the pictures scrolling on the display screen, rather the phone had to be turned on and the photos accessed and scrolled through. While this may not stop a rogue officer from scrolling through your cellphone, anything found will not be admissible in court without a search warrant first.

SPEED CAMERAS COULD BE AIM-2622-F-Ad for Tennessee.indd 1 ANYWHERE As drivers become more savvy about spotting speed cameras along roads and highways, police are making it tougher by disguising their revenue-generating equipment. Authorities in and around Washington D.C. are expanding their speed camera programs, reports the Washington Examiner, and now they’re purchasing cameras that look like mailboxes and trash containers to unsuspecting motorists. They’re also more mobile, so police can reposition them so drivers cannot get used to seeing them in one particular area. Nearby Prince George’s County in Maryland purchased nearly 60 mobile cameras last year, and expects to generate $28 million in annual revenue, reports the news outlet. A similar speed-camera program in D.C. generated $55 million in fiscal year 2011. Meanwhile, the traffic-camera debate has ignited state and local governments across the country: some embrace camerabased technology as a cost-efficient law-enforcement and safety tool; others cast it off as an overly intrusive money grab. In all, 13 states utilize speed-reading cameras, while 12 states have passed laws banning them. Twenty-four states are currently operating at least one red-light camera within their borders, while another nine prohibit their use. Despite the conflicting laws, overall use of cameras has gone up rapidly in recent years: redlight cameras were in 25 communities in 2000, compared with more than 500 today. Speed cameras went from 20 jurisdictions in 2005 to 113 today. NEW BIKE INSURANCE SUSPENDED OVER LAW AND ORDER CONCERNS Insurance companies have stopped offering insurance policies to purchasers of new motorcycles in Karachi, Pakistan due to increase in snatching and theft incidents of two wheelers in the city. Law enforcement agencies, facing targeted killings and a skyrocketing crime rate, are apparently not interested in curbing such criminal activity, leaving poverty-stricken citizens at the mercy of thieves who are snatching dozens of motorcycles daily. Motorcyclists who recently purchased brand-new bikes are being fleeced by illegal insurance agents to get their bikes insured, as all listed insurance companies in the city have suspended bike insurance policies due to the prevailing law and order situation. AUSTRALIA MAY REQUIRE RIDERS TO WEAR FLORESCENT CLOTHING Australia’s 1.3 million motorcycle riders would be forced by law to wear florescent jackets under proposals splitting the biker and scooter community. A national battle over the possibility of compulsory hi-visibility clothing began when the luminescent

(800) ON-A-BIKE

idea was pushed by Senior Sergeant Bill Gore of11/1/11 the Wangaratta 5:06 PM Highway Patrol as part of a safety bid to reduce motorcycle accidents. A Victorian Government road safety inquiry will consider the hi-viz option and, if adopted, other states could be expected to follow suit. Damien Codognotto, Melbourne-based spokesman for the Independent Riders’ Group, is fighting mandatory day-glo because it could affect the liability of a bike or scooter rider after an accident. “Gore’s law is likely to change the legal standing of motorcycle and scooter riders and their liability after a crash regardless of who was at fault,” he told news.com.au. “Compulsory third party insurers are looking to reduce payouts for victims of road trauma who were on two wheels (who are) seen as easy targets for reduced compensation,” explained Codognotto. “That is not only unjust considering the premiums and taxes we pay, it is disastrous for riders’ families.” He said there had not been much research into the issue and the collection of crash-site data had been patchy. LAWSUITS FILED OVER BAD GAS Two Indiana residents have filed separate class-action lawsuits against BP after they were told it would cost thousands of dollars to fix their vehicles, which were damaged by a bad batch of gasoline from the company’s Whiting refinery. BP has issued a recall for about 2.1 million gallons of off-specification gasoline that was shipped to stations in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin in early August. The company has reported that more than 7,000 people have already reported problems to BP. Lake County resident Mark Gonzalez says in his suit, filed in the federal court in Hammond, IN that he filled up both his 2002 GMC Yukon and his 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with the bad gasoline, leading to repairs costing more than $1,000. The attorney representing one complainant said they decided to file for class-action status, which must still be granted by a federal judge, because so many people like his client have been hurt by the bad gasoline but would likely spend more on legal fees than any money they would receive from BP. QUOTABLE QUOTE: “There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.” ~ Denis Waitley (born 1933), American author and motivational speaker

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: So lately I have been putting in a lot of time replacing the wood fascia on my house eves with Hardie board. It’s a board made from cement that bugs won’t eat, water won’t rot and hopefully, I won’t have to replace ever again. This past March my house got hit with hail and several weeks later I noticed a couple of small water leaks. Several of my neighbors were having roofs replaced so I decided I better have an adjuster come out and let me know if my roof needed to be replaced. It did. I’ve gone through four months of battle with the insurance company, contractors and my mortgage company to get the money passed around and my roof replaced. In the middle of this process I discovered rotten framing and wood behind my gutters. This is what set me on a course of replacing my fascia, repairing my eves and of course when you do that you have to repaint the whole house. All because some little chunks of ice fell from the sky. Where did they come from?? Who knows!! My guess is they fell out of some first class flight passenger’s glass of whiskey and soda. This whole exasperating long term torture has caused me to lose hair I can’t stand to lose and give great thought to life and my current state of well being. Between working all week at work and working all weekend in the garden and on the house I’ve discovered my bones can talk. Where they learned I really can’t tell you. For most of my life they kept to themselves and rarely let me know they were around. Now all of a sudden when I have serious work to do all they want to do is moan, whine, get stiff and make me feel like I’ve been clubbed with a baseball bat. After several days of hard labor my bones throw me on the couch, hold me down and won’t let me up. How is a man expected to get anything done with bones that turn on him like

that? I drank my milk, ate Wonder bread and did my best to make sure my broken bones didn’t go into double digits but it didn’t help. My bones hate me. It seems the only thing that makes my bones happy is riding the motorcycle. So now that I have begun to actually listen to my bones, we are starting to understand each other. My bones will let me work a little but then I have to ride them around on the motorcycle to repay them. I have to tell you my wife is suspicious of this new-found knowledge. When I told her about all of this and that I would have to take a day off from improving the house to make my bones happy she gave me a look I really can’t describe and that I have never seen before. I’m afraid she thinks my brain is about to join in and throw me in the closet and not let me out until it gets something too. Maybe that is how my Uncle “Steamboat” ended up in the white coat with long sleeves. I’m sure it started with his bones, his brain found out about the perks of protest from his bones and his brain preferred fancy clothes to being in the closet. He still ended up locked away though. I sure wish he was still around so I could confirm it all started with his bones. Now that my bones and I are talking we’ve decided to make plans for the fall. We want to make a run up through northern Tennessee and the Powell valley over to Kingsport and Bristol to see the leaves when they change. I’m getting pointers on what to wear because they don’t like getting real cold. I’m sure my bones prefer warm weather because daisy dukes and tank tops make them stand up taller and they tell my stomach to get lost. They will tolerate a little cold though if they get to ride. I hope you learn how to have a serious talk with your bones and that riding helps the relationship. Watch out for the deer though. Bones don’t like bumping into deer on the road. Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those can’t. Bulldog
