Why collaborate with the Farnham Castle & Keep?
Historical and cultural heritages are of great value to well know about this community. Not only bring us to the past to understand history but also discover our own country identity. In the project, I want to focus on how to let historical stories and the cultural heritage to keep carry forward and conservation. Farnham Castle is one of the historical buildings in England and a landmark in Farnham. The astonishing is it has a history of nearly 900 years that is longer than my country; I could not imagine how the changing during those years. The evolution of history must be wonderful. Moreover, the building changing of Farnham Castle is so fascinating. It so attracts to find out how they build the architecture and where those materials come from?
About my project concept
In this project, I will try to make more people understand the value of Farnham Castle and how important about heritage conservation about it. Nowadays, most of the young generation will not pay more attention to those kinds of historical stories and values. If we do not pass down these precious properties to the next generation, they may gradually be forgotten. Thus, what I want to provide for Farnham Castle is let the new generation have certain awareness and interest in heritage in interesting and interactive ways so those cultural could be passed down and receive attention.
Develope & Research Visit Farnham Castle & Park
The Castle attracts me is the architecture most. Whenever I got some new place I like to observe their local architectures, because behind them show the history, culture, historical evolution, people in that place. _ Visit Castle and the Park _ Research some information from the internet, school’s library, local library _ Have a professional tour with the contact person Derek and Chris _ Share my opinion why and what I interesting about the Castle that I want to collaborate with the Castle _ Do some sketch (architecture, some patterns on the buildings, windows...etc) Through above to get lots of interesting details about the castle and several stories, the history that we may not be able to research by ourselves.
Photoppolymer
Develope Main point and extend
For my project, I think the “patterns” and “items” on or in the architecture representing historical remains. So I narrow my main point to focus on “scratching on the window”, and use this to extend my project
• How they build it? • What and how is changing and happening during the historical time? • What are the materials they use? • Where those materials come from? • What are the background stories each of the patterns in the Castle? • Hidden message (handwriting changing with time) • Hidden secret story during the war? • The time and space during the past and now • How/ Why/ What/ When they do the scratching message on the window? • Why is the message being at there? • What time is it being at this place? • Who is the person writing those messages on the window? • Is some words connect the past time history? War? Rich people? Royal people? • How people wrote those messages on the glass? Diamond?
“Hidden Message Development Process _ Practice & Test I
Inspire by the photopolymer I tried to print some photo and sketch on the transparent film and use the light to show up the hidden (secret) message.
And have some research witch is about uses the light to show up the shadow gave me the idea that I could use the light to express the hidden messages.
I did several tests and compare which one is better. I try three styles: - One is to cut some patterns by colour film and let the shadow projected on the photo or sketch. - Another one is to print the words on the film then projected on the pictures. -The last one is to use the words to be the background and cut the patterns by the colour film. This result are better than the other two.
“Hidden Message” Development Process _ Practice & Test II
During the development stage, we still keep in touch with Derek and show our progress and works. And show that I want to use this kind of attractive outcomes to let audience who come to the Castle will be attracting and want to know more story about the patterns I use in my project.
“Hidden Message Development Process _ Laser Cutting Practice & Test
I tested several colours of paper. But found out that the white one i s better to show up what I expect. And about the colour film, I chose blue and fluorescent orange. During the testing found out that it has to be two layers both side then they could stand up. I do some test that two patterns be one pair, three be a pair, and four be one pair. I tried to do several pairs of them and put them together could look like buildings.
