10 T H - N AT I O N A L P I N A C O L A D A D AY The Pina Colada is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most popular cocktails, with its sweet creamy coconutty taste transporting you straight to a beachside cabana. Translating as ‘strained pineapple’ from Spanish, the traditional recipe combines pineapple juice, rum and coconut cream. Grab a pineapple and join the party!

One of Ernest Hemingway’s favourite cocktails, we’ve been enjoying Daiquiris for over 70 years, but did you know the original recipe was in fact invented by a mining engineer? Jennings Cox is said to have invented the drink in Cuba during the Spanish-American War and named this drink after the nearby iron mine in which he worked.

Produced in the town of Tequila, Mexico’s national drink is protected to the area. The more aged a tequila is, the more mellow its flavour. Instead of shotting the spirit, tequila is made for sipping and savouring or, as we like to enjoy it, shaken into cocktails including the Margarita and Paloma.

The combination of coffee and cocktails doesn’t really need an introduction... A well-loved blend of two of life’s greatest pleasures, perfect for an added boost of motivation. Satisfy two desires at once with our double dose of Espresso Martinis!

SALTED CARAMEL MARTINI Sweet-toothed tipplers, you’re in for a treat! As if the alcohol meets coffee combination wasn’t enough, we’re treating you to a supersweet salted caramel twist on the classic Espresso Martini cocktail. Named an on-trend flavour in 2008, salted caramel is now one of the most popular sweet-meets-salt balances that instantly entices the taste buds. Our twisted Espresso Martini increases the sweetness, but keeps coffee at the heart of every sip. We suggest serving this one with a wedge of fudge on the rim of your glass for an extra moment of indulgence!

ESPRESSO MARTINI Created in London in 1983 by famed bartender Dick Bradsell, the Espresso Martini reportedly came about when a young lady asked him for a drink that would “wake me up, and then cheer me up” - perhaps the perfect way to describe the effects of an Espresso Martini! As vodka was all the rage at the time, and the Soho Brasserie in which Dick worked was next to the drink station, he decided to combine the brasserie’s freshly made espresso with two types of coffee liqueur, vodka and sugar syrup. Originally named the Espresso Vodka, the cocktail was tweaked and gained its new name the Espresso Martini simply in reference to the glassware typically used to serve the cocktail. As its known, the key to a great Espresso Martini is the creamy foam head which adds texture to the drink. To create this, the original Espresso Martini recipe calls for ristretto espresso, a shot of coffee which uses less water to produce a less acidic taste, which is left to cool before mixing. We’ve taken this logic and brought it on-trend by simplifying the mixing process with our favourite Cold Brew Sandows so you can enjoy your Espresso Martinis tout de suite!

T H E P U R E S T O F P O TAT O VODKAS

Named after the Whitley family, who began creating spirits in Daresbury in 1762, JJ Whitley Potato Vodka is a nod to the family’s farming heritage. Home-grown fruit and vegetables became a staple of JJ Whitley’s kitchen table and were soon developed into delicious spirits, alike the potato vodka which to this date is still made with 100% natural potatoes. With hints of citrus and pepper, JJ Whitley Potato Vodka is exceptionally thick, velvety and creamy while remaining neutral in taste, making it the ideal spirit to enjoy in cocktails. Due to its subtle flavour, we’re using the smooth vodka in July’s Espresso Martini to create our delicious coffee-focussed cocktail.
