La cocina tradicional de Toledo es un ensamblaje entre sencillez, en sus productos, y la imaginación de sus gentes. Por la humildad de su despensa, la cocina toledana exige altas dosis de ingenio y de habilidad para sacar lo mejor de cada producto y acertar en las armonías gustativas. Una cocina que ha sido pregonada históricamente por los más insignes literatos, de Cervantes a Pérez Galdós, pasando por Lope de Vega y Fernando de Rojas, Alejandro Dumas y Theophile Gautier. Fue en Toledo donde se publicó el primer tratado de cocina en lengua castellana: Libro de guisados, de Ruperto de Nola, en 1529. También fue en Toledo donde se gestó el primer tratado de dulcería en castellano “Los quatro libros del arte de la confitería” escrito por Miguel de Baeza, natural de la ciudad. The traditional cuisine of Toledo blends the simplicity of its produce with the imagination of its people. Due to its humble stock of ingredients, Toledo cuisine demands large measures of ingenuity and skill in order to get the best from every product and to get the balance between flavours just right. It is a cuisine that has been praised throughout history by some of the most distinguished literary figures, from Cervantes to Pérez Galdós, from Lope de Vega to Fernando de Rojas, and from Alexandre Dumas to Théophile Gautier. It was in Toledo that the first treatise on cookery in the Spanish language was published in 1529: the Libro de guisados (Book of Stews), by Ruperto de Nola. It was also in Toledo that the first Spanish-language treatise on confectionery was conceived: Los quatro libros del arte de la confitería (Four Volumes on the Art of Confectionery), penned by Miguel de Baeza, a native of the city.

A La gastronomía toledana antigua se nutre de productos humildes. Puchero, cocido, gachas, migas, pan, pote y pisto son algunos de sus platos más famosos. Además, destacan sus legumbres, hortalizas, bacalao, guisos de caza menor y de aves domésticas, escabeches, vinos, aceite de oliva, quesos… Un listado que se completa con algunas aportaciones y destellos más suntuosos: perdiz estofada, cordero o carnero, gallina en pepitoria, pichones asados, ciervo, mazapán, dulces conventuales… Good old-fashioned Toledo cuisine is based on humble produce. Puchero, cocido and pote (all types of stew), gachas (a kind of porridge), migas (breadcrumbs), bread and pisto (ratatouille) are just some of its most famous dishes. It is also renowned for its vegetables, garden produce, bacalao (cod), stews of small game and domestic birds, pickles, wines, olive oil, cheeses, and so on. This rich list is rounded off with some truly sumptuous offerings such as stuffed partridge, lamb and mutton, chicken fricassee, roast pigeon, venison, mazapán (marzipan), dulces conventuales (pastries made in convents and monasteries) and many more.

DECLARACIÓN DE PATRIMONIO DE LA HUMANIDAD
Hace 30 años, el 28 de noviembre del 1986, la UNESCO otorgó el sello de “Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad” a Toledo. Esta ciudad ha sabido conservar un patrimonio inigualable que hunde sus orígenes en el Neolítico. En Toledo han vivido romanos, visigodos, hebreos, árabes y cristianos, dejando un importante legado patrimonial y cultural; arquitectónico, gastronómico y literario.
Thirty years ago, on 28 November 1986, UNESCO awarded the city of Toledo World Heritage status. The city has managed to preserve an unrivalled heritage that dates back to the Neolithic period. Toledo has been home to Romans, Visigoths, Jews, Arabs and Christians, who have left behind an important legacy in terms of culture, heritage, architecture, food and literature.
El 2016 es muy especial para Toledo, que aparte de la declaración de la UNESCO, también celebra el IV Centenario de la muerte de Miguel de Cervantes y ostenta el titulo de “Capital Española de la Gastronomía”.
2016 is a very special year for Toledo. Apart from the anniversary of its listing by UNESCO, it is also celebrating the 4th centenary of the death of the author Miguel de Cervantes and it has been named the Food and Drink Capital of Spain.

El 2016 para Castilla La Mancha es un año asociado a un nombre: Miguel de Cervantes, uno de los escritores más famosos de todos los tiempos y conocido mundialmente por la novela “El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha”. Este año se cumple el IV Centenario de su muerte después de que, además, en 2015, se conmemorara el IV Centenario de la publicación de la segunda parte del Quijote. Es decir, 400 años después, Cervantes, está más de actualidad que nunca.
For Castile-la Mancha, 2016 is a year associated with one name: Miguel de Cervantes, one of the most famous authors of all time and known the world over for his novel El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha). This year celebrates the 4th centenary of his death, following the commemoration in 2015 of the 4th centenary of the publication of the second part of Don Quixote. In other words, 400 years after the event, Cervantes is more topical than ever.
Cervantes, además de soldado, fue un completo novelista, poeta y dramaturgo y escribió sobre temas con los que todos podemos identificarnos: el amor, la familia, la educación, la religión… Para que puedas acercarte un poco más a su figura y su obra, te recomendamos que acudas a alguna de las actividades que tendrán lugar a lo largo de 2016. Cervantes, as well as being a soldier, was an all-round novelist, poet and playwright and he wrote about themes with which we can all identify, such as love, family, education and religion. To help you get a bit closer to the writer and his works, we recommend going to some of the activities that will be taking place throughout 2016. PARQUE ARQUEOLÓGICO DECLARADO PARQUE ARQUEOLÓGICO DESDE EL 2003
El Parque Arqueológico, es uno de los más importantes conjuntos monumentales de la Hispania Romana. La notable extensión del enclave, la variedad de sus testimonios arquitectónicos, así como la expresividad y belleza de los mosaicos de la villa romana, otorgan a este yacimiento un lugar muy destacado en la arqueología española. Fortuitamente, en el 1983, se descubrió el primer mosaico. A lo largo de los años se han puesto al descubierto diversos edificios que abarcan unas 18 hectáreas, entre los que sobresalen la cas de Materno y su complejo productivo –torcularium-, un mausoleo y un edificio palacial. The Parque Arqueológico (Archaeological Park) is one of the most important collections of monuments from Roman Spain. Thanks to the significant size of the settlement, the varied nature of its architectural remains and the expressiveness and beauty of the mosaics in the Roman villa, this site occupies a very prominent place in Spanish archaeology. In 1983 the first mosaic was discovered by accident and over the intervening years various building have been brought to light covering an area of around 18 hectares. Some of the more notable among these include the Casa de Materno (Maternal House) and its agricultural production room (or torcularium), a mausoleum and palatial building.

En el 1996 la ciudad de Cuenca fue declarada Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad, galardón merecido a una ciudad que tiene constancia de población desde el Paleolítico Superior, pero no fue hasta la conquista musulmana cuando se construye la fortaleza de Qünka, que dio origen a la ciudad actual.
In 1996 the city of Cuenca was declared a World Heritage Site, a richly deserved honour for a city that has evidence of human habitation dating back to the Upper Palaeolithic; however, it was not until the Moorish conquest, when the Qünka fortress was built, that the modern city was founded. The year 2016 will also see the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Museo de Arte Abstracto (Museum of Abstract Art). This and the 20th anniversary of Cuenca’s declaration as a World Heritage Site will together be considered events of Special Public Interest.

En el 2016, se celebra también el 50º Aniversario del Museo de Arte Abstracto, el 25º Aniversario de la Facultad de Bellas Artes y junto con el vigésimo aniversario de la declaración de Cuenca como Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad tendrán la consideración de acontecimientos de “Especial Interés Público”.
Cuenta con el Museo Diocesano Catedralicio, donde podremos contemplar una pieza escultórica de bella factura, el Calvario de Alfonso VII, talla en madera en parte policromada y el resto trabajado en plata. Posee la mayor colección de arte sacro de la provincia.

We can now be certain that processions have been taking place in Cuenca for more than six centuries. The year 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of the Camino del Calvario procession, or Las Turbas (the crowds) as it is more commonly known. Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Cuenca is celebrated with great fervour and it is the focal point around which a large part of the city’s activity is centred. It includes the Museo Diocesano Catedralicio, where we can see an exquisitely crafted piece of sculpture: the Calvario de Alfonso VII, carved in wood and partly painted with the rest worked in silver. This Cathedral Museum houses the largest collection of sacred art in the province.

Museo de Arte Abstracto En 1966, el artista Fernando Zóbel, natural de Manila, eligió Cuenca para crear el Museo de Arte Abstracto Español, centro emblemático que cumple en 2016 su cincuenta años de historia. Situado en las Casas Colgadas, el Museo de Arte Abstracto Español pertenece a la Fundación de Juan March y puedes encontrar los más representativos artistas del Movimiento Abstracto Español del siglo XX: Torner, Saura, Rueda, Chillida, y Tapiés, entre otros. In 1966 the artist Fernando Zóbel, originally from Manila, chose Cuenca to be the home of the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español: an iconic centre that will celebrate its fiftieth birthday in 2016. Housed in the Casas Colgadas (hanging houses), this Museum of Spanish Abstract Art is curated by the Fundación de Juan March and in it you can find some the most emblematic artists from the 20th-century Spanish Abstract Movement, including Torner, Saura, Rueda, Chillida and Tapiés.

El patrimonio paleontológico de Castilla- La Mancha cuenta en la provincia de Cuenca con dos de los yacimientos paleontológicos más importantes de Europa Occidental: Las Hoyas y Lo Hueco. Estos yacimientos contienen fósiles únicos de dinosaurios y otros animales con gran calidad de preservación. En el Museo de Paleontología podremos recorrer de forma didáctica y divertida esta “Tierra de dinosaurios” donde se encuentran más de 200 piezas, fósiles y reproducciones de los dinosaurios que habitaron en esta zona.

La historia de Almadén da comienzo cuando la naturaleza creó en sus entrañas el mayor yacimiento de mercurio conocido hasta la fecha, formado hace unos 430 millones de años. La mina de Almadén, que ha estado en activo 2.000 años y de la que se ha extraído la tercera parte del mercurio consumido por la humanidad. En 2002 se cesó su explotación, aunque todavía hay una gran reserva de cinabrio en su interior que no ha sido extraído. El Parque Minero de Almadén propone un fascinante recorrido por las entrañas de la tierra donde visitar el interior de una de las minas más antiguas del mundo, así como sus instalaciones dentro del Cerco de San Teodoro y el Cerco de Buitrones. Una aventura única, donde nos adentraremos a la mina interior, haremos un recorrido por la mina explotada en las S. XVI y XVII, bajando en una jaula de mina por el pozo de San Teodoro hasta la primera planta (50 metros de profundidad). 30 _

The history of Almadén began when deep within the earth nature created the largest deposit of mercury ever discovered, formed some 430 million years ago. The Almadén mine was operational for 2000 years and it is the source of one third of all of the mercury consumed by humanity. It closed in 2002, although it still contains a vast reserve of cinnabar that has not been extracted. The Parque Minero de Almadén (Almadén Mining Park) offers a fascinating tour through the very bowels of the earth where you can visit the inner workings of one of the oldest mines in the world, as well as its facilities in the old enclosures of the Cerco de San Teodoro and the Cerco de Buitrones. This is a unique adventure, in which we descend into the depths of the earth to take a tour of the mine workings from the 16th and 17th centuries, travelling in a mining cage down the San Teodoro shaft as far as the first level (at a depth of 50 metres).

This is the last outpost of an ecosystem known as wetlands, formed by the flooding of two rivers, the Guadiana and the Gigüela, and favoured by the flatness of the land. It has been awarded National Park status, which represents an important step towards preserving one of the most valuable ecosystems on our planet.

The Parque Cinegético Experimental de El Hosquillo (Hunting Park) lies at the heart of the Serranía Alta, in the Serranía de Cuenca Nature Reserve. The name “Hosquillo”, originating from the word hosca, refers to the difficulty of its gloomy terrain. It is located in an asymmetrical valley that terminates in a dead end, from which a river and a stream, the Río Escabas and the Arroyo de las Truchas, flow.

Este grandioso monumento, quizá el edificio más representativo de la ciudad, fue construido entre 1226 y 1492. Aunque la parte fundamental de la catedral es de estilo gótico, sin embargo diversos estilos de arte están representados en su decoración, participando de formas tan diversas como el renacentista del coro. la sacristía constituye un auténtico museo en sí misma, albergando obras de tan célebres artistas como El greco, rubens, zurbarán, lucas Jordán, vand dick, tristán, goya… Aunque bien podría decirse que toda la catedral es un verdadero museo digno de admiración. también se puede visitar la sala Capitular y El tesoro. this magnificent building is probably the construction that best exemplifies the charm and features of the city and was built during the years 1226 and 1492. the main construction pattern of the cathedral is gothic but many different styles of art are represented in its decoration, with such styles as the renaissance in the choir stall. the sacristy is a true museum itself, with works from very famous artists, such as el greco, rubens, Zurbarán, lucas Jordán, Vand dick, tristán and goya, among others. However, the whole cathedral is to be considered as a museum that is worthy of admiration. You can also visit the chapter House and the treasure room.

[ Alcázar ] El Alcázar de toledo es símbolo de la ciudad y testigo de algunos de los acontecimientos más destacados de la Historia de España. su época de mayor esplendor corresponde al reinado de Carlos i, cuando ilustres e importantes arquitectos trabajaron en este histórico edificio. la nueva sede del museo del Ejército cuenta con siete salas históricas con fondos desde la antigüedad hasta el siglo XX, y trece salas temáticas sobre sus diversas colecciones.
the “alcázar” is one of the most symbolic sites of toledo and a privileged witness of some of the most important events in the history of Spain. it achieved its greatest splendor during the reign of carlos i, when the best and most renown architects devoted their talent to this historic building. the new headquarters of the Museum of the army count into seven main rooms with historic collections (up to the 20th century) and thirteen thematic rooms with diverse collections.

Este Hospital, de estilo plateresco, fue mandado construir a principios del siglo Xvi por el cardenal Pedro gonzález de mendoza para reunir todos los hospitales de toledo en un mismo emplazamiento.
Hoy en día alberga el museo del mismo nombre, donde se pueden apreciar diversos lienzos de El greco, entre los cuales cabe resaltar “la Asunción de la virgen”, “inmaculada Concepción”, “la veronica”, así como obras de otros autores e interesantes objetos de arte y arqueológicos.
the Hospital, with a clear plateresque style, was built at the beginning of the 16th century by cardinal Pedro gonzález de Mendoza as a single gathering point for all hospitals of toledo.
it currently hosts the Museum of Santa cruz, where different canvases painted by el greco are exhibited, among which we can highlight “la asunción de la Virgen”, “inmaculada concepción”, “la Veronica”, as well as other works from different artists and interesting archeological objects and objets d’art.

[ iglesia de santo tomé ] [ El Entierro del señor orgaz ]
A pesar de que sobre esta iglesia ya existen documentos del Xii en que es mencionada, no fue construida hasta comienzos del siglo Xiv. quizá lo que le ha otorgado a esta iglesia una fama mundial bien merecida es que en su interior se encuentra el lienzo de “El Entierro del Señor de Orgaz”, de El Greco. Este cuadro representa a san Esteban y san Agustín apareciéndose tras la muerte de don gonzalo ruiz de toledo, señor de orgaz, para proceder a su enterramiento; la composición de esta obra está dividida en dos partes, en sus pinceladas inferiores vemos representado lo terrenal mientras que la parte superior refleja lo celestial. even though there is documentation and historical reference to the construction of this church in the 12th century, it was not built until the beginning of the 14th century.
the painting called “The Burial of Lord of Orgaz” is probably the reason for the world-wide acclaim of the church. this painting shows San esteban and San agustín after the death of don gonzalo ruiz de toledo, lord of orgaz, who appeared to bury him. the painting is divided in two parts: the lower part depicts the portrait of earthly life while the top part shows the heavenly and divine elements. [ sinagoga del tránsito ] [ museo sefardí ]
Esta sinagoga, edificada en 1355-57 por samuel leví, perteneció a los hebreos hasta su expulsión por los reyes Católicos, convirtiéndose así en templo cristiano. sus muros están decorados por bellas grecas e inscripciones hebreas, así como con diversos motivos vegetales o mocárabes. El museo alberga la historia judía de España y objetos de culto y tradición sefardita.
the Synagogue el tránsito was built in 1355-57 by Samuel leví, and it belonged to the Hebrews until they were expelled by the catholic Monarchs. it eventually became a christian temple. its walls are decorated with beautiful friezes and Hebrew inscriptions, as well as different decorative plant and Mozarab motifs. the museum exhibits the history of the Jews in Spain with a collection of liturgical and traditional Sephardic objects.

[ sinagoga santa maría la blanca ]
santa maría la blanca, construida en el siglo Xiii, perteneció a los judíos hasta mitad del siglo Xv, que pasó a ser consagrada como iglesia cristiana y utilizada por éstos como refugio de penitencia para mujeres arrepentidas.
su bella construcción refleja toda su rica historia; el interior, cinco naves separadas por 28 arcos de herradura sobre pilares de ladrillo pintados con cal, descubre antojadizos adornos, artesonado de alerce o altares platerescos.
Santa María la blanca was built in the 13th century and belonged to the Jews until half of the century xV, when it was consecrated as a christian church and used as a refuge for the penitence of women who repented of their sins.
the beautiful construction reflects its rich heritage. its interior boasts five naves which are separated by 29 horseshoe arches over lime-painted brick pillars, with fancy decorations, larch coffered ceilings and plateresque altars.

En su interior se encuentra parte de la obra de El greco, de la que destacan un magnífico “apostolado”, la “vista y plano de toledo” y “las lágrimas de san Pedro”. El museo se completa con cuadros de luis tristán, murillo, valdés leal y otros artistas.

Considerada la más bella iglesia de toledo, fue mandada construir por los reyes Católicos al maestro Juan guas, para perpetuar la memoria de su victoria en la batalla de toro. una única y grandiosa nave con forma de cruz latina y cúpula estrellada forma el interior del monumento. San Juan de los reyes is considered to be the most beautiful church in toledo, and was built by the famous architect Juan guas after the catholic Monarchs appointed him to fulfill this great task and perpetuate the memory of the victory in the battle of toro. the single and magnificent nave has a latin cross plan and an interior star-shaped dome. the main chapel hosts the five great coats of arms of the catholic Monarchs, finished with the utmost care and held by huge eagles. We can also highlight the beautiful cloister and altarpiece of the main altar.

[ museo de los Concilios visigosdos ]
templo de estilo mudéjar, exceptuando la capilla mayor que adquiere un estilo plateresco tras la reforma realizada en el siglo Xvi. Actualmente el museo de los Concilios y la Cultura visigoda se encuentra en este edificio, donde se guardan reproducciones de las coronas votivas del tesoro de guarrazar, restos visigodos y se protegen una colección de bellas pinturas murales románicas del siglo Xiii, perfectamente conservadas, así como una bella arcada de estilo califal con capiteles visigodos reutilizados.
this temple has an overall Mudejar style, even though the main chapel has a plateresque style after the modifications that were carried out during the 16th century. the Museum of the Visigoth councils is currently hosted in this building and it exhibits accurate copies of the votive crowns of the tesoro de guarrazar, including Visigoth remains and a collection of beautiful romanic mural paintings from the 13th century, which are in perfect condition. We can also see a fine caliph style arcade with Visigoth capitals that were used before in other constructions.

[ Hospital de tavera ]
Este monumento, también llamado Hospital de Afuera, fue mandado construir por el cardenal tavera en 1541. Atravesando su fachada renacentista, encontramos en su interior dos anchos patios perfectamente simétricos, con columnas dóricas y arcos jónicos. En el interior de su iglesia se encuentra el sepulcro del propio fundador. En el museo se pueden admirar obras de artistas como El greco, ribera, zurbarán, sánchez Coello, tiziano o tintoretto. Aloja en sus dependencias el archivo de la nobleza.
this monument is also called the “Hospital de afuera”, which was built by cardinal tavera in 1541. its façade depicts a renaissance style and inside we can see two perfectly symmetrical patios with dorian columns and ionian arches. the founder is buried inside the church. Many different works from famous painters are exhibited in the museum, such as el greco, ribera, Zurbarán, Sánchez coello, tiziano or tintoretto. the archives of la nobleza are currently kept in the premises of the building.

[ real fundación de toledo ] [ museo victorio macho ] se encuentra situado en el lugar conocido como la roca tarpeya, con vistas a un impresionante desfiladero sobre el río tajo, donde el célebre escultor palentino tenía su lugar de residencia y taller. En este mismo lugar, del que salieron sus creaciones, se expone hoy día su obra, cedida por el propio artista tras su muerte; esculturas, dibujos, apuntes y un audiovisual forman parte del museo de victorio macho. the museum is located in roca tarpeya, with views to an impressive ravine over the tajo river, where the famous sculptor lived and worked.
His outstanding creations were crafted here and the artist donated them after his death. the works of art exhibited in the Museum of Victorio Macho include some of his sculptures, drawings, sketches and notes, and visitors can enjoy an audiovisual presentation of his works. [ mezquita del Cristo de la luz ] Edificio del siglo X; cuatro columnas de mármol con capiteles visigodos sustentan nueve cúpulas de diversos estilos. Cuenta la leyenda que cuando el caballo del Cid, llegando a este lugar, se arrodilló, fue descubierto un cristo que había sido sepultado por los cristianos para evitar la profanación de los musulmanes. la talla muestra la particularidad de tener los pies desviados de la posición general que corresponde a los crucifijos. the Mosque was built in the 10th century, with marble columns and Visigoth capitals that support the nine domes which are adorned and constructed in different styles.
according to the legend, el cid was brought to this place by his horse. He kneeled down and found an image of christ which had been buried by the christian followers to hide it from the Muslim. the image is peculiar, since the figure’s feet are sideways and not in the usual position of other crucifixes.

Este museo exhibe 24 tapices de un valor incalculable. Alberga piezas desde el siglo Xiii hasta el siglo Xviii con representaciones de hechos históricos elaborados en marfil, oro, plata y esmaltes. Entre los pendones, destacan los cuatro de los reyes Católicos con el famoso lema “tanto monta”.

En la reciente restauración nos encontramos una excepcional policromía en la arquitectura gótica y restos de lo que fueron terma romanas pertenecientes al siglo i.
this twentieth-century contemporary art museum is located in the oratory of San felipe neri. it was founded in 1125 and was rebuilt in gothic style between the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. in the recent restoration we find exceptional polychromy in the gothic architecture and remains of what were once roman baths from the first century.

[ Convento de santo domingo el Antiguo ] Este convento construido en el siglo Xi y reformado en el Xvi, es uno de los más antiguos de la ciudad y el magnífico retablo que exhibe es obra de El greco. su iglesia, de planta de cruz latina, consta de una sola nave y alberga una gran colección de retablos y pinturas de este artista; en su coro se pueden apreciar numerosas obras de arte.
this is one of the oldest buildings in the city and its magnificent altarpiece was painted by el greco. the convent was built in the 11th century and refurbished in the 16th century. the church has a latin cross plan with a single nave, exhibiting a vast collection of altarpieces and paintings from el greco, with many of his works in the choir.

Cuenta la leyenda que estas cuevas eran el Palacio de Hércules, o lugar donde el rey rodrigo abrió un cofre prohibido, para descubrir la profecía que auguraba el final del reino visigodo a manos del islam. Ahora podemos ver los restos de un aljibe, el templo visigodo, la mezquita y la iglesia románica de san ginés del siglo Xii, que se sucedieron en el tiempo sobre las cuevas.

se construyó sobre una antigua basílica visigótica, la de santa leocadia, reedificada en 1166. de esta época sólo se conserva el ábside mudéjar, quedando sólo fragmentos de su estilo visigodo. En su interior se encuentra el Cristo de la vega, talla que posee la peculiaridad de tener un brazo descolgado, detalle que dio lugar a la leyenda del poeta zorrilla, “A buen juez, mejor testigo”.
this chapel was built over the ancient Visigoth basilica of Santa leocadia, which was built again in 1166. only the Mudejar apse remains from this century, with fragments of the Visigoth style.the inside hosts el cristo de la Vega; the arm of this peculiar image is hanging from the cross, and this story was later to be narrated by the famous legend of the Spanish poet Zorrilla called “a good judge will have an even better witness”.

fifteenth century convent, which was built on the remains of noble property. its façade depicts a goth-Mudejar style with a palace-styled origin. the church has a clear renaissance style and has a nave with four crossing sections, a large choir and three side chapels. among the variety of objects on exhibition, we can find the famous set of cutlery that belonged to cardinal cisneros, which was made out of gold, rock crystal, tortoiseshell and coral.

this building was once simultaneously a house, barracks and prison of the Santa Hermandad de toledo (the Holy brotherhood of toledo), the force responsible for protecting the roads during the Middle ages. the casa-Posada retains part of the original structure from the late 15th century, as well as the facade, in the gothic-Mudejar style, adorned with the coat of arms and emblem of the catholic Monarchs.
nowadays it is home to a Municipal cultural centre and is used for various other administrative purposes.

En esta iglesia fue bautizada la futura reina Juana de Castilla, madre del emperador Carlos v y en ella acaban las aventuras del lazarillo de tormes.

Compone la entrada más bella y emblemática de la ciudad, mandada construir por el emperador Carlos v. Aunque su origen es árabe fue reconstruida y ampliada en 1550 por el torrijeño Alonso de Covarrubias, pasando así a ser de estilo renacentista. sobre dos solemnes torreones de mampostería, la portada se corona con el escudo del águila bicéfala que Carlos v otorgó a toledo. the most beautiful and emblematic entrance to the city. it was built by the emperor carlos V. even though it has arab origins, it was built and modified with clear renaissance features in 1550 by alonso de covarrubias, a citizen of torrijos, toledo.the façade is crowned by a shield of arms over two solid masonry towers, which displays a twoheaded eagle and it was handed over to toledo by carlos V.

obra mudéjar construida en el siglo Xvi que daba acceso a la medina musulmana hasta que la muralla fue ampliada, lo que le despojó de su función defensiva quedando de esta manera encerrada como segundo camino de paso. de planta rectangular terminada en semicírculo, sobre dos columnas se alza un gran arco apuntado que se adelanta a la puerta de arco de herradura. se elevan dos torres en mampostería, una semicircular y otra cuadrada, con almenas y ventanas.
a Mudejar construction which was built in the 16th century to provide access to the Muslim medina before the expansion of the wall. When the said construction was erected, its protective function was no longer of any use, becoming a second gate for transit. the rectangular plan is completed with a semicircular end and a large pointed arch is supported over two columns, right in front of the horseshoe arch gate. two masonry towers are erected, one is semicircular and the other one is square, with battlements and windows.

Esta puerta, también conocida como Puerta vieja de bisagra, fue en su día la principal entrada a la ciudad de toledo. En ella se unen el estilo cristiano y musulmán y conserva su fachada, compuesta de tres arcos de herradura, cobijándose en el mayor de ellos otro más, sin apenas retoques. also known as the Puerta Vieja de bisagra, it used to be the main entrance to the city of toledo. the christian and Muslim styles are merged in a unique representation of the architecture that can be found in the city. its façade is in good condition and still remains intact, and the construction is composed of three horseshoe arches; the largest arch hosts smaller arches.
Esta puerta renacentista de origen árabe es conocida también como Puerta de los Judíos ya que daba acceso al barrio de la judería toledana. reformada en el siglo Xvi se le añaden a los dos torreones primitivos otros dos, resultando así una nueva estructura de planta cuadrada y modelándose un pequeño patio en su interior. Alrededor de la puerta crecían unas zarzas llamadas cambroneras, de ahí el nombre de “Cambrón”.
this renaissance door with an arab origin is also known as the Puerta de los Judíos (Jews’ gate), since it was used to get to the Jewish neighborhood of the city. it was built again in the sixteenth century and two primitive towers were added to the existing towers, creating a new square structure with a patio in the inside. its original name comes from the bushes that grew around the gate, called “cambroneras” (buckthorns), and that is why the peculiar name “cambrón” was used.

El arco central, más grande que el resto, es apuntado y tiene 27 metros de altura. En sus extremos, dos puertas o torreones defienden este armazón de estilo gótico. this bridge is supported by four arches and it was built in the 14th century as part of the protective enclosure of the city, together with the bridge of alcántara. the central arch is the largest of the four arches; it is pointed and is 27 meters high. two gates or towers protect the goth framework of the bridge.
