NEW YORK

FASHION WEEK TONI&GUY ROCKED NEW YORK FASHION WEEK AGAIN THIS SEASON AT THE COREY LYNN CALTER PRESENTATION FOR 2012 FALL/WINTER COLLECTIONS. THE EVENT WAS HELD AT PIER 59 ON FEBRUARY 8 AND WAS A SPECIAL REQUEST BY TOP FASHION EDITORS. TONI&GUY EDITORIAL DIRECTOR, WHITNEY BLISCHKE, LED THE HAIR TEAM AND COLLABORATED WITH THE DESIGNER TO COME UP WITH THE TWO SOFT FEMININE LOOKS THAT GAVE A NOD TO THE 60’S WITH PUMPED-UP VOLUME AND A SIDE-SWEPT FRINGE. BELOW IS AN INTERVIEW WITH TONI&GUY EDITORIAL DIRECTOR WHITNEY BLISCHKE ON THE COREY LYNN CALTER PRESENTATION: WHAT DIRECTION DID YOU AND DESIGNER COREY COLLABORATE ON? A part of Fashion Week that many people don’t get to see is the collaboration process between the designer and the hair stylist. This process with Corey was very natural with our similar vibe and general taste esthetics making for an easy creative process resulting in hair looks that went seamlessly with her collection. Once Corey shared her collection with me, the idea for the hair just clicked. I took the modern vintage energy of her collection and created two looks that gave a nod to the 60’s with side-swept fringe in either a low ponytail or a half-down half-up look. The hair was pumped-up with volume, soft texture and looked very fresh. DID COREY GIVE ANY REASONS ON WHY SHE LIKED THE LOOKS? Yes. Corey loved the modern mod vibe of the hair and how it complimented her clothing. She liked how the looks didn’t look overdone and enhanced the new vintage feeling of the collection. HOW DID YOU CREATE THE LOOKS? When creating hair for a collection, it is important to prep all looks in the same way so that you have a consistent look and feel on all models. This even applies to the amount of shine that you give the hair. For Corey’s collection, we started by using a ton of salt spray to dampen the hair. We then used a 1 ½ inch curling iron on zigzag parts just in the front. Next we backcombed everything below the radial. Then we shook out the hair and sprayed it with dry shampoo and added TIGI Sugar Dust (powdered wax) at the crown. From this point forward no combs or brushes were used. The looks were either gathered into a low ponytail or half-down halfup, both featuring a side-swept fringe.

TONI&GUY and its team members are giving back to some of the bravest and most noble women in our country, military veterans. TONI&GUY salons throughout the U.S. will be treating military women to total look makeovers including cut, colour, makeup and a reveal outfit. This initiative kicked off in the Dallas area with makeovers on Jasmine Guaiardo, a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, and Stacey Keyte, an Iraq war veteran and U.S. Army Guard Staff JASMINE Sergeant. Both women are mothers, and Keyte’s husband is also currently deployed in Africa.

Success is only fully realized when you start to give back. Recently I was impressed with Kim Fasnacht of our Mission Viejo Salon and her dedication to the hairdressing industry. A 2009 graduate from the TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy in Coeur d’ Alene, Kim recently returned to her alma mater to speak to our students regarding the opportunities she has found with her education from TONI&GUY. She shared insight into the steps she took in following her dream of moving to California and tips regarding interviewing with salons. Our students at the Coeur d’ Alene Academy were inspired by her visit, and she still gladly receives calls from students for insight and advice. Having a mentor and mentoring are powerful tools in Kim Fasnacht your professional development. Thank you Kim for taking the time to give back!
