HOW TO HAVE A FLAWLESS WEDDING DAY

PREP SKILLS FOR AN AMAZING PHOTOSHOOT COME UP WITH A STRONG CONCEPT AND DEFINE IT WITH THE PROPER MODEL, POSITIONING, LIGHTING AND WARDROBE Do your research, define your concept and have a clear direction for the category that you are entering. CHOOSE THE PERFECT WARDROBE TO ACCOMPANY YOUR HAIR Clothing and jewelry for the shoot are so important! Collecting tear sheets is a great way to get inspired and hone in on your vision. DON’T FORGET THE MAKEUP AND NAILS! A great photoshoot is all in the details. Choose makeup that compliments your overall look. If the eyes are in focus, pair with a nude lip. Same goes for the nails. Everything needs to be cohesive. CREATE A SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY OF SHOOT A successful photoshoot is one that is well planned! Make sure to create a schedule and let everyone involved know when models will arrive, when hair and makeup begins and when the shoot finishes. Allow for time to set up your inspiration boards, tools, lights and props, and time for the breakdown. Please make sure to order lunch!

TONI&GUY GOES MASQUERADE WITH DIFFA DALLAS 2014 TONI&GUY was a proud sponsor of the DIFFA Dallas Masquerade Event 2014 - donating hair and makeup services to light up, decorate and style the incredibly vibrant, masquerade-themed runway. DIFFA Dallas raises funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS prevention and the teams were excited to be a part of the evening filled with glitter, gems, masks and more. Both TONI&GUY stylists and students got their hands in hair to create over 150 intricate, unique looks - sending a variety of models down the oversized, grand runway at the Omni Hotel in Dallas, TX. The looks had an organic textured feel, varying between Dutch, French and Fishtail braids and the makeup was a true expression of the artists’ creativity - pulling colors, gems and hand made masks to bring the looks even further. The TONI&GUY teams truly brought the characters of the masquerade to life with sophistication and creativity.

A CUT ABOVE Students Irene and Alexa won A Cut Above experiences and went backstage with teams to help create the magical show.

Mum Knows Best Meet the beautiful Andrea – Zak Mascolo’s amazing mum! For Mother’s Day, Zak invited Andrea into the studio for a cut and a chat with the STRUT Magazine team: here is what she had to say on her relationship with Guy, the beginning of the brand and Zak’s ink...

We loved our beginning, the memories we made – it was such a humble start to our lives together.

In the beginning HOW THEY MET: When Guy and I met, which was 1960, I think. I think I was about 19 – and we met in a club. He came up to me and talked to me, and we danced, and then he asked me out on a date. And I stood him up! I ended up feeling so bad that I called him up and we went out, started to date, and I think we were married within the first year. THE FIRST SHOP: When we first started in our Clapham shop, I used to sweep up the floor, wash the hair, answer the phone and do the reception. Guy Jr. would sit in the back of the shop in his stroller, because we couldn’t afford a baby sitter – We used to go home in this Mini that was so rusty, and so old – that when you’d sit in it, there were holes to the ground! <laughing>, we had to watch where we put our feet because it was so rusted our feet would go through the holes! We lived in a large house and at the very top was myself and Guy, and Guy Jr. We had one bedroom, one lounge and a kitchen…that was a bathroom. We would put wood across the bathtub and we would sit there at the little wooden table, and that’s how we would eat dinner every night – because we had nothing. We loved our beginning, the memories we made – it was such a humble start to our lives together. THAT FAMOUS PHOTO (above): Because I could never take a decent photo when I was younger, they managed to capture my backside. So it was me when I was holding the ladder in our first shop, and Guy was on top of the ladder trying to spruce up the shop. That’s me! A MOMENT IN HISTORY: The funniest thing ever was when Guy Sr., myself and Guy Jr. – we were on the Underground in London going up to the Davis Street shop. Because Guy and I back in the day were hippies, someone offered us old English money – two and sixpence – which would maybe be 50 cents. And she said I would like you to take this and buy your child some sweeties because it looks like you can’t afford him candy. So this little old lady gave us money, and what was funny is at the time – we had parked the Rolls-Royce at the Tube station because it was easier to travel – we were just very hippie, very down to Earth, never showed off.

Andrea on her relationship with Zak How are you and Zak similar to each other? ANDREA: Same personalities, same mouth! The same temperament, we are both loud… wait, are we really? I think we are both extraverts. What do you think of Zak’s tattoos? A: I love what Zak does, because I think he does it in style. I like the black, and his 44 is his remembrance of his father, because his father was born in ‘44. Its just that he must make sure that he makes enough space for 46, because that’s when I was born. So when I croak, I want to know what fingers I’m going to be on. And I also want to know what spot on the chest I am going to be on that says Mum. Then I can leave him in peace! What is a memory that comes to mind from when Zak was young? A: I do have something that he wrote me, when he was 9 years old. I still have the letter posted in my closet, it has a gherkin – and you scratch it and it smells like a pickle. He put there, “Mum, I love you so much. When I become a man, I am going to buy you a car and I’m going to take care of you.” He always used to tell me when he was small, “Mum, I want to have a girl like you.” As a son, he was fantastic.

COMES the

PERFECT HAIR FOR YOUR PERFECT DAY

1. Do a run through of your hairstyle with your hairdresser before the wedding day. Bring any accessories - veil, hair clips, etc. that you plan on using to get the full look at the run through. 2. Choose a hairstyle that will compliment your dress. For example, if you have an ornate gown with detail at the shoulder and neck line, perhaps do a more simple updo. 3. Make sure you have your hair cut and colored the way you want it about a week before the final hair appointment for your wedding. 4. Wash your hair the day before the wedding instead of that morning, that way your style may last longer. 5. When planning your hair and makeup, it can work best if you have your hair set first, apply your makeup, and then finish styling your final hair look.

HOW TO BE THE PERFECT BRIDESMAID Tips from our favorite wedding planner, Heather Klosky CARRY A SMALL BAG WITH TOUCH-UP NEEDS FOR THE BRIDE. A comb, mini hairspray and extra bobby pins for peace of mind throughout the night. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO AN OPINION BUT A DUTY TO BE KIND. Odds are the bride has been dreaming of her wedding for years, so enjoy the ride of seeing your friend’s style and ideas come to life! BLEND IN THEN STAND OUT. It is likely the bride will have the dresses, hair and accessories chosen for each bridesmaid. Stay within the guidelines during the ceremony and add your own flair afterwards with a fun handbag, sunglasses or lip color. BE SENTIMENTAL. Really think about the bride’s interests and passions. Incorporate little details into the bachelorette party, bridal shower and wedding day that are meaningful and creative. BE HAPPY AND ENJOY! Heather@bloomboom.com/Bloom Boom and O.C.D. Events

NOTES FROM BRUNO Something that is so important to the TONI&GUY family is giving back: being in service to those who are in need. We all come from different backgrounds and upbringings, but what is so amazing about humanity is our ability to connect and contribute to each other. Hairdressing is such a gift of expression, using this art as our voice to this world - and it is so important to create a well-rounded offering as a company, to our clients and our partners. Purposeful contribution creates connection and meaning - and we are so grateful to have the ability to give our support to those who are less fortunate right now to hopefully allow more people to find their gift and share it with the world.
