As most regular readers will know, September is the worst month for me living in Spain as once again, the schools go back! I could cry, to be honest: nine more months of early mornings, school runs, stressed-out children from all the studying — day in, day out. Not much fun! I was thinking the other day, that surely I have done the worst of it already with 15 years under my belt, so to speak … and ONLY (fingers crossed) eight more years to go! At least I only have one now in school; the No part of this publication, including pictures may be copied, used or reproduced without our prior written consent.
Wow, what a scorcher August was! Some areas in The Axarquia hit temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius, so even with air conditioning blasting out, it’s hard to keep cool in conditions like that. I mean, is there anyone that really likes it that hot? You literally can’t physically do anything much — attempting even the smallest of jobs in that kind of heat wears you out. Little things such as bringing the washing in, for example, leaves you dripping wet with sweat, and you probably need a nap as it is so tiring. I have no idea how some tradespeople manage to continue working in this heat — hats off to weather and lack of rain also bring a shortage of water to the area, however — and that is potentially much more serious than our own minor discomfort. I was shocked to see Lake Vinuela looking extremely empty earlier in August and then read that the reservoir is only at around 12% capacity. Let’s hope that there is a plan B if we don’t get a good rainy season this year. I have read that there are several ways to turn salt water into drinking water (desalination), so why has no-one started this process? Maybe they have and will announce it when the time is right.

Parasitic pimple
Louise Edwards, from Allerton, Liverpool, woke up with what she thought was a big pimple above her right eye. Over the next few hours, it grew bigger and bigger, and the 35-year-old assumed she had been bitten by some sort of bug.
Two nurses examined her but she was told to continue with the prescribed drugs.
‘I saw my neighbour the day after and she asked me what had happened,’ Louise said.
‘Thechecked.hospital tried to squeeze it, gave me antibiotics and sent me home,’ she said.
As the swelling was causing her eye to close, Louise went to St Paul’s Eye Hospital to get it
‘When I explained she said to use boiling water straight from the kettle to draw whatever it is to the top.’ She said she did that and as she squeezed the swollen spot, ‘this thing’ started coming

Slithering snacker
Crab hazard A beach in St Ives, Cornwall, was overrun with a swarm of venomous crabs recently — just weeks after the Cornwall coastline was flooded with jellyfish. The mass of crustaceans gathered in the shallow water at Porthgwidden Beach to shed their shells before returning to the depths. Spider crabs are not uncommon on British beaches, and are instantly identified by their spindly long legs and pincer claws.
An enormous snake with two dogs inside its stomach has been caught in north eastern Thailand. The 22ft-long python was found in wasteland with a massive bulge in its belly –and locals believe it has been living on stray and pet animals. The giant serpent was spotted slithering across abandoned construction materials at a vacant lot in Sisaket province.
Although they have a venomous bite that is poisonous to their prey, it is harmless to humans, however their razor-sharp pincers can still give a nasty nip.
Animal handler Piyachat Charoensopha explained: ‘A villager was looking for their two missing pet dogs, which are likely to be the creatures we found inside the snake’s stomach.’ The snake was found easily because of its size – and it could barely move because of the size of its latest meal. The snake is now lookedbeingafter by vets.

A notarial deed is signed by both parties, either in person or by the use of a power of attorney in the Spanish form. The transaction costs are for the notary, land registry and legal fees. The tax authorities in Andalusia charge 1.2% tax on the fiscal value. If there has been a divorce in Spain and there has been a 50/50 split of assets, the transaction should be tax exempt, though there are some issues arising where the couple cannot show they were married in community of property. 1) When the main core of an individual’s economic interests (i.e., greater part of any income and/or investments), remain in Spain.
It is important to clarify that it is not enough just to start living in another country in order to change your tax residence. There are some other requirements that need to be met to avoid unpleasant fines from the Spanish tax office. How do you make the change?
A person who has resided in Spain and been declaring and paying their tax annually(IRPF), and want to stop doing so (because they have started residing in another country), must communicate the change in their circumstances to the Treasury using the 030 model. Once this has been submitted, the Inland Revenue will almost certainly request proof of residence in another State.
Therefore, the person concerned must provide a Tax Residence Certificate issued by the authorities of that territory in which they reside. Please be aware that to obtain this certificate, in general, it is necessary to prove that the individual resides in that country for most of the year, that is, more than 183 days. It is essential to get a Tax Residence Certificate issued by the country of new residence ASAP. However, the above requirement may not be sufficient for the Inland Revenue to consider that there has been a change of actual residence (in which case the affected person must continue to pay in the IRPF for all his worldly income). It is important to be aware that this could occur in the following situations: -
• Permanent residence. First, a person is considered a resident where they have a permanent residence at their disposal.
• Habitual residence. If residence cannot be determined based on the above criteria, it shall be understood to be located where the taxpayer habitually resides.
- Be Careful!
• Nationality. Finally, the residence shall be determined by the country of which it is a Personalnational. and economic relations. In relation to this criterion, consideration is given to family and social relations, occupations, political, cultural, or other activities, the location of business or professional activities, the headquarters of wealth management, etc.
CONCLUSION: It is not enough for a person to reside abroad more than 183 days a year in another country to avoid being considered a tax residence in Spain. If their personal and economic interests remain in Spain,they will not lose their status as a taxpayer in Spain. If you are moving to Spain or are changing your residence to somewhere outside of Spain, it is important to seek professional tax advice to avoid problems. Your official tax residence must be clarified from the outset. 2) When the individual’s children and/or spouse continue to live in Spain, unless otherwise proven. These requirements can create conflict over the actual tax residence of an individual. What a century! After years of recovering gradually, on a worldwide basis, from the economic crisis of 2008, when things were just getting back to normal, we came face to face with a worldwide pandemic, and now with the world plunging into an energy crisis, a war that is unnerving everyone, rising inflation and talk of recession, we can definitely say that the times of predictable trends in any market are over - at least for the foreseeable future.

And yet, houses in Spain, especially around the Med, are still selling! This Spring, there was a post-covid rush to buy properties – not only bought by our fellow European neighbours, but also by local people looking to escape the towns. Every agent has been rushed off his or her feet showing houses and preparing contracts. The Summer is always quieter, as serious house hunters avoid the expensive travel and accommodation costs and the heat. So the question is, what will this Autumn be like in the market for selling properties.
I would say that if you are thinking of selling, but unsure if the situation in the world will mean it is not a good time to sell, THINK AGAIN! We are already surprisingly inundated with requests to view properties this September and October and we just don’t have enough variety of properties to match the demand. With so many properties sold this Spring, and not that many new ones coming onto the market, any new property appearing in the agencies’ windows, websites and property portals is eagerly studied by buyers anxiously searching for their new homes. Especially in demand are country houses with rustic and character features, houses with pools, and village houses with good outside spaces.

The shop’s large inventory is clean and well-presented, updated daily, with a friendly staff of volunteers on hand to help. Donations are always welcome - please help us to restock our shelves. Of course all shop proceeds go directly towards helping our animal friends in need, primarily for vet bills, food and kennelling costs.
If you’re as old as me and still want to hold a book in your hand, smell the paper, turn a page not scroll through an e-book screen. So, come and pop in, you’re sure to find something that will delight, almost all of them are €1 each or three for €2.
Part of the money raised, paid for (among other things) the spaying and neutering of 11 female and 5 male cats in June. This all helps to keep the population down on the streets.
