Le interesa ver la reacción del público ante sonidos nuevos y su aceptación entre los más jóvenes, terminan temprano para respetar a los hoteles vecinos. En ocasiones conoce buenos grupos que andan de gira y los programa espontáneamente, así ocurrió con Carnavale di Vendetta. El arte de la cúpula fue realizado por Justine Ward, interpreta el ciclo de la vida a través de representaciones figurativas que simbolizan los cuatro elementos (fuego, tierra, agua, aire), la kundalini (o depósito de energía) y al ser humano.

By LI VALENZUELA If the ocean and its attractions are to be enjoyed during the day, during the night life flows through the beaches of Bahía Principal and Zicatela. The entertainment options are abundant, attractive and versatile. There is something for all tastes. Looking beyond the differences and the most heard phrase, “Eso no es cierto!” (“That can’t be true!”), everyone has a story to tell and it all comes together in creativity and good energy. And it all happens regardless of your place of origin or your age.

The waves in front of Casa Babylon in Zicatela were incredible during an interview with Kathuska, who opened 14 years ago with a book collection that was passed along to her by some friends.

Since then they are exchanged at one for two. Friends would arrive and listen to an entire album “as though they were at home,” her brother played flamenco music, while another knew how to make mojitos.

So with little more than half a dozen glasses the bar was opened on September 9, 1999. Today they prepare four drinks with good, quality ingredients. Kathuska chose the name Babylon based on the last album from Mano Negra. “We were on vacation in Veracruz and Huautla with Manu Chau when he was recording that album.”

Una lista de deseos Felicitaciones a Arq. José Antonio Aragón Roldán, elegido para la presidencia de San Pedro Mixtepec. Conocido como El Camarón, se ha ganado mucho respeto de los ciudadanos de Puerto Escondido durante su término como Agente Municipal.

Felicitaciones también a todos aquellos quienes postularon a cargos públicos.

Los malpensados dirán que sus objetivos eran egoístas; nosotros proponemos darles el beneficio de la duda. Las campañas para cargos públicos son agotadoras y, en algunos lugares, considerablemente peligrosas, más aún este año. ¿Pero qué es lo que podemos esperar en el transcurso de los próximos tres años en la ciudad de Puerto Escondido? ¿Qué queremos ver? Bueno, después de mucha reflexión y un análisis acabado, tenemos una lista. De hecho, nos demoramos 10 minutos para desarrollar estos puntos, lo que sugiere que por cierto hay más que agregar.

Aquí entonces está nuestra lista de deseos para la administración de 2014-2016 de Arq. Aragón.

Aunque no todos estos puntos caen dentro de la jurisdicción de San Pedro Mixtepec, creemos que el gobierno municipal tiene alguna influencia y la puede utilizar con otras autoridades y niveles de gobierno.

• Transparencia en todos aspectos del gobierno municipal.

• Mejorar los niveles de seguridad: establecer un sistema de patrulla continua en el Adoquín, y cerrar las cantinas allí también.

• Regular la venta y el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas en áreas públicas.

• Mejorar el transporte público en áreas donde actualmente no se ofrece, como en Rinconada.

• Trabajar con la asociación de hoteles y otros proveedores de la industria del turismo para crear una organización de marketing para el destino turístico.

• Y si eso es demasiado pedir,

ESTE PUERTO trabajar con las autoridades del gobierno como el StyDE y el sector privado para desarrollar una política que efectivamente promueva el turismo nacional e internacional, que crea y organice una serie de eventos regulares y anuales para atraer turistas. La organización de cualquier evento debería comenzar antes del mes en que tendrá lugar y preferiblemente con varios meses de anticipación.

• Invertir más recursos en las obras públicas y remplazar las luces quemadas de los semáforos en forma oportuna.

• Crear una unidad de control de perros y eliminar de las calles las amenazas a la salud y seguridad humana.

• Introducir y hacer cumplir normas de control de ruido • Introducir un programa de reciclaje.

• Trabajar hacia la mejora de la planta de aguas residuales en Punta Colorada.

• Trabajar hacia la certificación de Playas Limpias (más acerca de esto más adelante).

• Wi-Fi gratis en algunas áreas específicas del centro

Otra vez más Esperamos que nuestros lectores no se cansen de escucharnos insistir sobre las playas limpias porque aún no hemos terminado.

La agencia federal que examina el agua en las playas seguras para la natación en México anunció durante la última semana de junio que la Playa Principal de Puerto Escondido ha excedido los límites para la natación segura. No sólo eso, la playa tenía la cuenta más alta de enterococos del país, con 365 por 100 ml., durante una prueba que se hizo

entre el 13 y el 25 de junio.

Los resultados exceden los niveles recomendados tanto para la protección ambiental como para la salud. El límite para este último criterio, la salud, es de 200 por 100 ml., según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).

El límite que se ha establecido para la certificación de Playas Limpias es de 100, nivel bajo el cual la Playa Principal normalmente se ha mantenido hasta ahora. Los resultados de las pruebas anteriores, tomadas en marzo y como se reportó aquí arrojaron 89.

Las pruebas de junio arrojaron una disminución en Puerto Angelito de 40 a 33, Carrizalillo de 16 a 13, Playa Marinero un aumento de 23 a 133, y dos puntos en Zicatela aumentaron de 16 a 20.

Los incrementos tanto de Principal y Marinero deberían ser de preocupación aguda para todos en Puerto Escondido. Un destino de playa cuyas playas no son seguras para la natación ganará rápidamente una reputación que resultará en mas visitantes aun yéndose por la carretera hacia Huatulco que ya goza de una playa con certificación de Playas Limpias.

La noticia que Puerto tenía las playas más sucias del país apareció en todos los periódicos a principios de Julio, y el anuncio inicial en Twitter de la COFEPRIS, la agencia responsable, se “retweetió” a lo largo y lo ancho del Internet.

Mientras tanto, el trabajo ha comenzado, sino es que ya ha terminado, en Playas Manzanillo y Carrizalillo, donde se han instalado tanques de retención y bombas para llevar las aguas

residuales de las playas al sistema municipal para ser tratadas en Punta Colorada. Bien hecho!

¡Felicidades a Greta!

Greta de la Cruz Cano, gano premio en dos categorías durante el Campeonato Nacional de Gimnasia Rítmica, celebrado en Monterrey en junio. Nos hizo llegar algunas impresiones del evento: P: En el torneo que participaste ganaste medalla por 1º lugar en aros y 2º manos libres, ¿cómo funciona un torneo?, ¿cuántas gimnastas participaron?

R: Competí ante otras 15 niñas en mi categoría, juvenil 1-a. Las clasificaciones son por nivel y por edades, tengo 14 año y acabo de terminar la secundaria.

P: ¿Cuál es tu siguiente objetivo?, ¿quienes te apoyan?

R: Será la Olimpíada Nacional 2014, aún están por definir la sede. En mi caso en particular no cuento con patrocinio ni apoyo de instancias gubernamentales . . . Sería genial conseguir apoyo para que pueda ir al Nacional, ya que esta es una de las disciplinas más costosas en México.

En breve NÚMERO DE VISITANTES AUMENTA— El departamento federal del turismo dice que la ocupación de hoteles en México subió un 6.7 por ciento en los primeros seis meses del año, y Puerto Escondido figura con cifras altas en los mismos resultados. Dice que Puerto reportó el incremento más grande entre los destinos de playa, con un 23.7 por ciento.

BÚSQUEDA DE NOMBRE — El departamento estatal de turismo está buscando un nombre para la región costera con fines publicitarios. Dos que se están considerando son Costa Dorada y Riviera Oaxaqueña. El área incluiría la franja de costa entre Huatulco y Chacahua, ya referida por algunos como Costa Chica y Costa Esmeralda.

A wish list Congratulations to Arq. José Antonio Aragón Roldán on his election to the presidency of San Pedro Mixtepec. El Camarón, as he is known, earned a lot of respect among citizens of Puerto Escondido during his term as Agente Municipal. Congratulations too to all those who put themselves forward to run for public office.

Cynics will claim their objectives were selfish ones; we say let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. Campaigning for public office is an exhausting task, and in some places, and more so this year, a considerably dangerous one.

But what can we look forward to over the next three years in the city of Puerto Escondido?

What do we wish to see? Well, after much deep thought and careful analysis, we have a list.

In fact, it took us 10 minutes to develop these points, which suggests there are surely more to be added.

Here, then, is our wish list for the 2014-2016 administration of Arq. Aragón. While not all of these points fall within the jurisdiction of San Pedro Mixtepec, we believe the municipal government has some influence it can use with other authorities and levels of government.

• Transparency in every aspect of municipal government.

• Improve levels of security: establish a system of ongoing patrols on the Adoquín, and close the cantinas there as well.

• Regulate the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public areas.

• Improve public transportation in areas where it is not currently offered, such as Rinco-

• Work with the hotels association and other tourist industry providers to create a destination marketing organization for tourism.

• And if that’s asking way too much, work with government authorities such as StyDE and the private sector to develop a tourism policy that effectively promotes tourism nationally and internationally, and creates and organizes a series of regular annual events designed to attract tourists. Organization of any events should commence before the month in which they are scheduled, preferably several months before.

• Put more resources into public works and replace burned-out traffic lights in a timely fashion.

• Create a dog control unit and rid the streets of threats to human health and safety.

• Implement and enforce noise control regulations.

• Implement a recycling program.

• Work toward improving the wastewater treatment plant in Punta Colorada.

• Work towards obtaining Playas Limpias certification (more on this below).

• Free wifi in a few specific areas of the centre.

La edición de julio de la revista Puerto Escondido fue un desastre en cuanto a los nombres de las personas en las fotos. Trabajando con una tabla surf se encontraba Roger Ramírez y su negocio se encuentra en Rinconada; Miguel Ramírez también tiene un negocio pero no en La Punta. No se nombró la escuela de surf Oasis entre las escuelas formales de

surf, las otras dos son Central Surf y David Salinas.

The federal agency that tests water at swimming beaches in Mexico announced in the last week of June that Puerto Escondido’s Playa Principal had exceeded the limits for safe swimming. Not only that, the beach had the highest count of enterococci in the country, at 365 per 100 ml, during testing done between June 13 and 25.

The results are outside recommended levels for both environmental protection and health.

The limit for the latter criterion, that of human health, is 200 per 100 ml, as recommended by the World Health Organization.

The limit which has been set for beaches to obtain the Playas Limpias certification is 100, a level which Playa Principal has normally fallen below until now.

Results of the previous tests, taken in March and as were reported here, gave Playa Principal a reading of 89.

The June tests showed Puerto Angelito down from 40 to 33, Carrizalillo down from 16 to 13, Playa Marinero up from 23 to 133, and two locations on Zicatela up from 16 to 20.

The increases at both Principal and Marinero should be of acute concern to everyone in Puerto Escondido. A beach destination whose beaches are not all safe for swimming will quickly gain a reputation that will send yet

more visitors down the highway to Huatulco, which already boasts one beach with the Playas Limpias certification.

The news that Puerto has the dirtiest beach in the country was in all the newspapers in early July, and the initial announcement on Twitter by COFEPRIS, the agency responsible, was soon retweeted far and wide.

Meanwhile, work has already begun, if not finished, at Playas Manzanillo and Carrizalillo, where holding tanks and pumps have been installed to carry wastewater up from the beaches and into the municipal system, for treatment at Punta Colorada.

Congratulations Greta!

Greta de la Cruz Cano won two awards in June at the national gymnastics tournament in Monterrey. Greta spoke briefly with us about the event.

Q: In the tournament you won medals for first place in hoops and second in free hand.

How did the tournament work? How many other Greta de la Cruz g y m n a s t s Cano were there?

A: I competed against 15 others in my category, juvenile 1-a.

The classifications are by level and age. I’m 14 and have just completed secondary school.

Q: What is your next objective?

And who are your supporters?

In fact, most of us can barely swim. Perhaps that’s why we have such a hard time getting surf stories right. The July issue of Puerto Escondido magazine was a disaster in terms of misnaming people in the photos.

Working on a surfboard was Roger Ramírez and his shop is in Rinconada; Miguel Ramírez has a shop too but not in La Punta. Oasis surf school was not listed among formal surf schools, and should have been; there are three such schools,

the other two are Central Surf and David Salinas. The correct name of Oasis’ co-owner is Sra. Soledad Fernández Viola.

Las máscaras fueron creadas por don Rodolfo Celestino, de Xalitla, Guerrero y los juegos de mesa le dan su carácter de ludoteca, nos invita a participar en los mini torneos de backgamon que se realizan lunes y jueves a las 10 de la noche. Al despedirnos me dice, “el tronco de la entrada es lo que tiene más años en esta Casa”.

Con más tiempo en escena Bar Fly Klub toma su nombre de la novela de Charles Bukowski, Barfly, por eso la pintura del escritor te observa desde la entrada y como término refiere “a la persona que no se despega de la barra o anda merodeando como mosca” explica el Tío.

Comenzaron el año 1994 en el adoquín bajo un ambiente rústico, tipo gitano, proyectaban fotos de 2 x 3 metros, Beto escogía la música y luego Toño Lot fue su primer DJ. Desde entonces han evolucionado programando música electrónica y una vez al mes tocan DJ de nivel internacional.

Su concepto es ofrecer entretenimiento de calidad tanto en lo musical como en coctelería, además de innovar en comuni-

cación (sus flyers son bastante atractivos, hemos visto al Tío pegándolos por la noche) y diseño del espacio, Cron es el artista que traza en colores neo pop y estilo graffitti sensaciones y movimientos (los quimonos japoneses ubicados a un costado del DJ son los primeros) que realizan por contraste la atmosfera tropical sugerida por las palmeras y palapa bajo el flaying deck (terraza), el sonido armoniza con intensidad, no interrumpe ni fuerza las conversaciones o un buen ligue.

Como también fomentan una cultura de participación con la comunidad comparten en este club distintas generaciones de surfistas (Coco Nogales regalo una de sus tablas), residentes, visitantes y turistas de múltiples nacionalidades, el escenario está listo para que comience el show.

Por motivos de agenda no fue posible conversar con Juan Izaguirre de Tarros, lugar favorito de la comunidad porteña desde hace 13 años. Casi todos mis alumnos son asiduos a ésta disco, así la definen, entonces les pregunté con qué se identifican.

La decoración inspirada en la corriente Tinga Tinga (arte africano de los años 50) fue completada por distintas manos, explica animadamente Maia al recorrerlo, “pintaban en esta pared, un cliente dijo si había otro pincel y termino esa misma noche la del frente”, una de las mejores logradas; las columnas por dos gemelas, posteriormente Cawano Sanuz aplica su onda street art al fondo, animando el gris del ladrillo y a un costado otra amiga dibujo un rostro tipo comic.

Es momento de concluir y aunque esta vez solo me resta espacio para nombrar otros centros que son parte del circuito, Catchbar, Kabbalah o Sativa (con hip hop algunos viernes), la vida nocturna seguirá desplegándose con textura y ritmo alimentándose del maravilloso prana del mar.

HIV-AIDS campaign celebrated

Celebran campaña contra VIH-SIDA

An education and prevention campaign against HIV-AIDS concluded with a party in Zicatela in July.

The annual event is directed by Dra. Emperatriz Santaella López, president of Costa Unida por la Vida, who manages a team of collaborators made up of students of the Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico.

They complete their social service requirements with field work that benefits the local community.

La valiosa campaña de educación y prevención contra el virus del VIH SIDA concluyo con una fiesta en Zicatela en julio.

Las actividades que realizan anualmente están a cargo de la Dra. Emperatriz Santaella López, presidenta de Costa Unida por la Vida, quién dirige al equipo de colaboradores integrado por estudiantes de la Universidad Iberoamericana, completan así su servicio social con prácticas en terreno que benefician a toda la comunidad.
