Table of Contents Fall 2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME… Dear Danville, I would like to thank everyone for making my first year an amazing one. I have gotten to meet so many people on my journey. I have been able to meet all the Councilmembers, the Commissioners, police officers, firefighters, community members, and many children who decided to come up to me to say hi. I even met a little baby named Auggie too! Over this last year, I was able to dance at the Music in the Park, play soccer at Osage Station Park, be there when the grand old oak tree (where I dropped from) got lit, and I became a Jedi Knight on May the 4th.

I have learned so much about all that happens in our Town. If you haven’t been able to explore as I have, I invite you to run around, walk around, bike around, and take in all the fun at our parks and in our community. If there ever comes a time when you just aren’t sure what to do, then just look at this activity guide and find the right activity for you. I love how Danville resident make everyone feel welcome, even a big ole nut like me. There are so many more things I can share but you’ll have to read about my adventures in my new coloring book which I’m told will be available at different events. I hope to see you all this fall and I hope to have some fun with you. In case you are wondering, no, I don’t need any presents for my birthday, just your presence at one of the classes or events. See you all soon!

Want to reduce your risk of stroke, heart attack and cancer? Let food be thy medicine. Nutrition is the leading predictor of premature death and chronic disease risk (diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, etc.). Yet, there is significant confusion over what is a “healthy" diet. Misinformation and misleading advertising cause us to intentionally eat food that makes us sick and gain weight. It is never too late to improve our nutrition. Everyone, at every age and level of health, can benefit from good nutrition. Learn the scientifically proven nutrition plan for a long, healthy life.

Come to this motivating PowerPoint presentation to get you started on your life tale.

MEDICATIONS AND YOU

Guest Speaker: Shoshana Kobrin

Prescription medications can help us live longer and healthier lives, but any medication has the potential to do harm. Many of us also take over the counter medications, supplements and eat different kinds of food. All of this may cause potential confusion or complications. Learn more about how to take your medications safely, ways to make it easier to remember to take medications, examples with how to organize and keep track of them. Learn about what foods may interact with your medications, recommendations for how to renew medications on the same schedule, save money, expiration dates and proper disposal of medications. We will also share 5 groups of medications to avoid when possible, how your local health care provider and pharmacist can provide guidance and other resources to help you and your loved ones with medication safety–an important part of our lives.

NORMAL VS NON NORMAL AGING Age 55Y & Up | Town Staff

What's happening with your Medicare drug or Advantage plan for 2023? What changes should you be expecting? In today’s Buzz Session you will get an overview of the 2022 changes affecting Medicare Prescription and Advantage Plans in our county. You will learn about your coverage options, as your current plan may no longer be what is best for you. There will be no selling, just help and you will receive helpful handouts.

Have you ever worried whether some of the memory challenges you or a loved one are experiencing are "normal"? As we age, our brains and our bodies undergo changes. We may experience instances where we process information more slowly, or we may have trouble recalling names or dates; these are examples of typical age-related changes. But what are the indicators that these changes may be due to something more serious, such as mild cognitive impairments or dementia? When is the time to visit the doctor for an evaluation? Hope Hospice's dementia specialist will discuss all of the above questions and more.

Guest Speaker: Diane Whaley

Guest Speaker: Gia Barsell and Michelle Russell

Early this year, John Lau presented “The Best of the Best – Top 20 Tax Planning Opportunities in 2022”. If you missed that presentation, you still have time for some last-minute planning ideas before the year is over. Policies & Procedures GENERAL INFORMATION Pre-registration with payment is required for program participation. Payment must accompany registration form. The Waiver of Liability on the registration form must be signed prior to taking a class. Advise Town staff if participant has a disability or allergy requiring special accommodations. Class registration form may be sent ahead of registration date. All class registrations submitted prior to the first day of registration will be entered on the appropriate registration date, with no priority given.

PHOTO/VIDEO LIABILITY DISCLOSURE Photographs and video may be taken of participants during a class or program, and these photographs and video may be used for Town of Danville publicity purposes.

RAINOUTS AND CLASS MAKE-UPS Whenever possible, make-ups will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. See instructor at next scheduled meeting for make-up date. No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student.

WAITLISTS Waitlists will be created once a class has reached maximum enrollment. If space becomes available, you will be contacted.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

WITHDRAWALS (CREDITS/REFUNDS)

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Town of Danville encourages those with disabilities to participate in our programs. If you have any special needs that require specific accommodations so you can fully enjoy our classes and programs, call (925) 314-3400.

Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than seven business days prior to the first day of class. There will be a $5 withdrawal fee assessed for each activity. A $20 processing fee will be charged for processing refunds made by check. We do not provide cash refunds.

COURSE CANCELLATION

Requests made less than seven business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis.

When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a class or program. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund-minus transaction fee. Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks.

Withdrawals for sports leagues may be approved if a team can be replaced before the first game.

RESIDENCY STATUS CLARIFICATION Those living outside the Danville Town limits include residents of the communities of Alamo and Diablo, Alamo Creek, Bettencourt Ranch, Blackhawk, Bryan Ranch, Monterosso, Shadow Creek and Whitegate housing developments. The program and facility fees cover a large portion of the actual costs, though Town of Danville residents also partially support the classes, events and facilities through their property tax assessments. Because of this, those program participants and individuals reserving Town facilities who live outside of Danville pay an additional non-resident charge. If you have any questions about this information, call (925) 314-3400. Special Notice to Alamo Residents living in the Alamo County Service Area R-7A: all R-7A residents are eligible to register for Town-sponsored programs scheduled at Hap Magee Ranch Park during the resident registration period. Non-resident fees still apply for these classes and activities. Call (925) 314-3400 for more information.
