LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION Learning to fly: The new Portage Area Flying Club is a nonprofit, social flying club whose members can learn how to fly with a certified instructor. Portage is conveniently located 35 minutes from Madison, 90 minutes from Milwaukee, 3 hours from Chicago and 4 hours from the Twin Cities. Interstate 90/94 and Interstate 39 intersect just three miles south of Portage. Travelers from Milwaukee, Chicago and Rockford can continue west on I-90/94 to the Twin Cities or head north along I-39 to Stevens Point and Wausau. State Highways 16 and 51 intersect State Highway 33 in our downtown.

The Portage Municipal Airport is a public-use facility featuring two asphalt runways, a pilot’s lounge and fuel available 24/7 with restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance. The Dane County Regional Airport, located just 35 minutes from Portage, provides commercial air service.
