Jason started dancing at the age of 9 at the Cornwall High School of Dancing in Camborne, run by the charismatic and inspirational Madam Norman. At the age of 12, Jason auditioned successfully for Bush Davies School and The Lagat School of Russian Ballet. After finishing the Lower school at Lagat and appearing with the Northern Ballet Theatre on numerous occasions, he attended London Studio Centre, gaining the position of Head Ballet Boy in his second year. After graduation and becoming a member of Equity, Jason has worked throughout the world. He performed in London's West End, throughout Europe and Asia in Las Vegas style revue shows, gaining soloist/dance captain and company manager positions. He performed on many cruise lines on inaugural cruises, holding the same positions. In 2001 Jason retired from performing and decided to take on a career in teaching. He has opened seven schools in Cornwall. Students enter exams yearly with the Royal Academy of Dance and the International Dance Teachers Association. The students also perform annually at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro and at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London. He is now a mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance and choreographer for local holiday camps and pantomimes. Many of his students are now at vocational dance college, as well as younger students auditioning successfully for the Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst School of Dance, Arts Educational -‐ Tring Park and The Hammond School. Jason has made dance a safe and enjoyable experience attracting students of all ages as well a remarkable amount of boys where they will "get a life and dance for life". TRESCOBEAS SURGERY

LOOK ON THE WEBSITE One of my biggest challenges is to communicate important messages to our thousands of patients. One of the best ways of doing this is via our website, www.trescobeas-‐ surgery.co.uk. Over the past year we have added loads of new features including being able to register online, give feedback, change address and post latest job vacancies and offers, such as our 2 week free membership with THE CORE fitness centre. Over the next few months we will be adding plenty of new features the most eye catching being able to access your medical notes through the website. One of the most successful and useful website features is online prescriptions. Whilst we offer various methods to order repeat prescriptions, the online waiting room is by far the easiest, most reliable and clinically accountable method. Over the next few months we will be encouraging all our patients that can, to switch to this method. THE NHS FRIENDS AND FAMILY TEST – We particularly value your feedback on how you found our service. Both positive and negative feedback is important and we would we would be grateful if our patients complete the very short Friends and Family test questionnaire on our website or when visiting the surgery. We will post our results on the website. OUT OF AREA REGISTRATIONS – We can now register patients that live outside our established practice boundary. This is particularly useful for those who commute to work in the town and would find a Falmouth GP Practice more convenient. There are some restrictions but for more information contact the Surgery. Have Your Cake And Eat It

New Cornish micro-‐enterprise Je Tam is filling the counters of local delis and stores with ‘clean and raw’ cakes, biscuits, chocolate and desserts this year, in a bid to get more people to go guilt-‐free in 2015. Mother and daughter team, Tam and Monika Schallhorn, are waging a war against the idea of guilty pleasure when it comes to food. Their innovative range of products is designed to satisfy even the most powerful of sweet-‐tooth cravings while cutting out sugar, wheat, gluten and dairy; offering health benefits at the same time. Raw, whole foods – nuts, seeds and fruit as well as raw (untreated) cacao -‐ are combined in fine-‐tuned recipes, which seem just as delicious and indulgent as their ‘guilty’ counterparts. “Guilt-‐free doesn’t have to mean bland and boring,” explained Tam, who studies Nutrition as well as running her own business, which is based at Foundry Farm in Hayle. Some of Je Tam’s most popular products include Chocolate Cheesecake, Coconut Macaroons, Salted Caramel Raw Chocolates, Bounty Bars and Lemon, Lime and Coconut Bars. Je Tam also makes savoury burgers in a variety of flavours including beetroot and mushroom. Packed with goodness, these contain very small amounts of dairy and gluten. Je Tam’s products can be found at Archie Browns in Penzance and Truro, The Natural Store in Helston and Falmouth, and Elixir Soup and Juice (also in Falmouth). Tam started experimenting with raw cacao after giving up sugar. “I have a really sweet tooth and love my chocolate, so I needed to find a healthy substitute. I perfected several different kinds of cheesecake before my husband challenged me to make ‘clean’ versions of some of his favourite things. That’s how my take on the Viscount biscuit was born – it’s become one of our bestsellers!” Launching her own range at the end of 2014, Tam soon found she needed an extra pair of hands and recruited her mum Monika, who previously had her own business. She was only too happy to help her daughter realise her dreams. “I wanted to support Tam, who has such a flair for coming up with new product ideas and presenting them beautifully.” The range is always expanding and, with a website set to be launched later this year, Je Tam is a fledgling business about to take off. Local producers sound the call: ‘Stick with us throughout the year!’ The artisan food and craft producers of Truro Farmers Market are calling for the momentum of ‘Shop Local’ campaigns at Christmas to be maintained throughout the year, having seen more people than ever enjoy the market during the festive season.

“The market was incredibly busy in the run up to Christmas,” said Chairman Nigel Ekins. “Stallholders were here for additional days as well as during late night shopping, providing an opportunity for people to buy their Christmas food supplies and pick up gifts from our craft stalls at the same time. The atmosphere was fantastic and, as well as our regulars, many new visitors were converted, thanks to the quality and diversity of the offering.”

A stolen car. An accident that takes the life of a little girl. Four years on, the parents & the joy-rider meet. Highly accessible and utterly engrossing, this award wining drama takes you on a highly charged journey where forgiveness and redemption are set against guilt, rage and despair. Through brilliant story telling and recognisable characters, experience a fascinating insight into restorative Justice; a process which tries to repair something of the harmful consequences of crime. This riveting production will draw you in quickly—its powerful language and thought-provoking themes uncovering layer after layer with courage and compassion. Can we ever truly forgive those who harm our loved ones? This unmissable drama lets you decide for yourself… TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY Dracaena Centre, Falmouth 8pm Ticket Sales: 01326 319 414 £8 full / £6 concessions Age: 13 +

Nigel added: “The various campaigns to shop locally and support smaller businesses clearly had an impact. Now that a new audience has seen what is on offer, we want to encourage them to stick with us throughout the year, as showcasing the best seasonal produce is what the market is all about.”

Truro Farmers Market is held on Lemon Quay in the heart of the city every Saturday and Wednesday, and also holds a busy regular market on The Moor in Falmouth every Tuesday. A showcase of local produce and a key incubator for fledgling food and drink projects, the market is a window on Cornwall’s grassroots food culture. Its popularity has held strong, despite competition from an ever-‐increasing number of out-‐of-‐town superstores, and it has succeeded in attracting a new generation of shoppers while providing a memorable taste of Cornwall for tourists.

Up to 50% Off!!

Formed in May 1999 as a co-‐operative of local food producers, the market has traded in its green and white stripped stalls without a break, to become part of the retail fabric of Truro.

The offering is now more diverse than ever before. The usual suspects of meat, fish, dairy, fruit, vegetables and bakery products are joined by an amazing selection of cider, beers, spirits and wines – all produced in Cornwall. An army of assorted preserves and relishes is displayed alongside plants and cut flowers, creating colourful displays all year round. Global flavours are on offer with a selection of mouth-‐watering street food, and locally roasted coffee is brewed by expert baristas. Local arts and crafts, including photography, sign making and woodcraft are also represented.

Exhibitors arrange their displays in the Princess Pavilion March 2014

Children will decide the name of Cornwall’s newest daffodil which will be shown publicly for the first time at Falmouth Spring Flower Show next month. Falmouth daffodil grower Ron Scamp has given the un-‐named daffodil bulbs to the town’s school children to grow for the show and asked them to name the new variety. Ron is the show’s president and winner of the Royal Horticultural Society‘s gold medal 19 times for the daffodils he has bred over 37 year. His family-‐run ‘Quality Daffodils’ grows 3,000 varieties which are sold as bulbs worldwide. He says, “This new daffodil has been at least ten years in production. It is short stemmed, has yellow petals and an orange trumpet. “It now needs a name to be registered with the Royal Horticultural Society. I am delighted the Right: Falmouth school children grew pots of daffodils children are doing to decorate the band stand in this as they are the flower show’s future Gyllyngdune Gardens at the Princess Pavilion for March exhibitors. There are already eleven children’s classes in the show including dinner plate miniature gardens, vegetable animals, scare crows and Fantastic Fantasy gardens. A new cup, the Youth Group Camellias at Challenge for 12 -‐ 16 years olds, has been the March donated by Tempus Leisure the sponsor for the 2014 flower 2015 Falmouth Spring Festival which runs from show March 12-‐29. The themes for the first challenge include designing a Cornish engine house garden. Daffodils are the annual stars of the show with their own 29 specialist classes vying for attention with over a hundred further displays which include camellias, magnolias, rhododendrons, orchids and cacti. At the Princess Pavilion, Gyllyngdune Gardens, on March 21 and 22 gardeners from historic local gardens such as Trebah will bring their best blooms to Gardeners from historic Trebah compete with Cormac’s gardeners from Falmouth’s arrange their best blooms at Falmouth Spring Flower Gyllyngdune and Queen Mary gardens; novice Show March 2014 gardeners and veterans who have shown for over 40 years will anxiously arrange their entries beside each other. The closing date for entries is Sunday 15th March; there are no entry fees. Exhibitors and children under 16 get into the show for free. It’s free entrance also to browse the trade stands on the Pavilion’s patio for Easter presents, food, plants and garden ornaments. Show secretary Jean Cook says, “It’s a friendly family show in which everyone can take part. You do not need to know the name of your camellia, if it’s your best flower just share it with us. Non gardeners can bring their favourite house plant, enter the floral art which includes an arrangement to look like cup cakes, or the photography classes.” For a schedule and entry form call 01326 313658 or e-‐mail falmouthflowershow@hotmail.co.uk For updates see www.falmouth.co.uk, www.princesspavilion.co.uk, Facebook Falmouth Spring Flower Show.
