Your Health Matters! Feeling stressed and anxious? Feeling stressed and anxious often leads to experiencing emotions such as being angry, irritable, irrational, upset, unhappy and at a complete loss as to what to do. Longterm stress can also lead to serious health problems such as high blood pressure, digestive problems and autoimmune disorders. Inspiring Health, the new natural health practice in Falmouth, is running a workshop to help you do just that, providing self-help tips, a guide to complementary health therapies and a sympathetic ear! More information at www.inspiringhealth.org.uk This FREE Workshop is being held on Saturday March 12th 2016 at the Inspiring Health Clinic, 17 Fish Strand Hill, Falmouth TR11 3BD, 10am-12.30pm. Falmouth University to Sponsor Annual Fal River Festival Falmouth University has been announced as the official sponsor for the 11th annual Fal River Festival; set to be one of biggest cultural celebrations the area has ever seen. Taking place from Monday 30th May to Sunday 5th June, the Festival will highlight the artistic and natural riches of the Fal River area, attracting national and international visitors to its shores. For the third year running, Falmouth University will be the lead sponsors for the week-‐long event; a collaboration that will demonstrate Cornwall as a world-‐class cultural destination for visitors and students alike. Professor Anne Carlisle, Vice-‐Chancellor & Chief Executive of Falmouth University, said: "As the country's number one Arts University our collaboration with the Fal River Festival is perfect. The event highlights the many attractions of the area and seeks to develop them through innovation and cultural exchange. We look forward to seeing it flourish again this year." The celebration of the beautiful Fal River will include a diverse mix of events taking place at dozens of locations around the Fal River, including music and drama, arts and heritage, gig and working boat racing, swimming, walking and more. Claire Wood, Marketing Manager of the Fal River Festival, is looking forward to this year's event, saying: "We are so delighted to be welcoming back our title sponsors Falmouth University for 2016. This year we are really excited to be able to feature the University's Degree Shows within the festival programme allowing our visitors to view the work of students emerging from our local University. We are currently working on a programme that will feature some of the annual favourites and some new events also. This is the week of the year where we like to celebrate life on and around the very beautiful Fal River with a mixture of music, arts, water-‐sports and heritage, for locals, visitors and people of all ages." Many popular events from previous years of the Fal River Festival will be running again in 2016, including Film on the Ferry and Jazz on the Quay in St Mawes. The full line-‐up for the 2016 festival is currently being curated and interested locals and visitors can keep an eye on the festival's website www.falriverfestival.co.uk for the latest updates. For over a decade the not-‐for-‐profit Fal River Festival has been a staple in Falmouth's buzzing events calendar, and each year more than 100,000 people attend a range of different events helping to raise thousands of pounds for charities. There are further sponsorship opportunities available; please contact claire@falriver.co.uk for more information. and garden tidy-ups. Press Release/ Jan 2016 Title Sponsor For Falmouth Spring Festival 2016 Unveiled The University of Exeter has been announced as the title sponsor of the 2016 Falmouth Spring Festival. The University, which was recognized last year as a Global 100 institution and is consistently in the top 10 in UK league tables, has two campuses in Cornwall: the Truro Campus, located at the Knowledge Spa near the Royal Cornwall Hospital, and the Penryn Campus, which it shares with Falmouth University. Funded and organised by the Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID), the Falmouth Spring Festival is the first main festival on the Falmouth events calendar. Celebrating Falmouth’s coast and open spaces through a host of music, dance, sporting events, walks and ‘spring clean’ activities, the Festival takes places at numerous venues across the town. The Festival also has a strong community ethos with schools, businesses, volunteer groups and charities all involved and working in partnership with the Falmouth BID to celebrate Falmouth’s special environment in as many innovative ways as possible. This is exemplified by the Paint the Town Yellow Day, that involves the town’s primary schools, 15,000 donated daffodils from Cornwall-based Winchester Growers, University of Exeter students and town businesses working together to brighten up the town for the start of the Spring Festival.
Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID Manager said: “I’m thrilled to have an organisation of the calibre of the University of Exeter on board and it perhaps is a measure of how far the Festival has come in recent years. Spring Festival activities are intended to be diverse, engaging and eclectic, and 2016 will see a creative mix of new and established activities to hopefully attract many more visitors. And now with the support of the University of Exeter, we can look to grow and develop the Festival in exciting ways, thereby providing even more of a significant early season boost for the town and its businesses.” Professor David Hosken, University of Exeter Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Dean of Strategic Development in Cornwall, said: “The Spring Festival emphasises themes that are deeply important to all of us at the University of Exeter—a sense of community and tradition, a love of the natural environment and its long-term health, and, of course, an appreciation of the amazing quality of life here in Cornwall. We’re looking forward to participating in the Festival in 2016 and exploring new and exciting ways to contribute to it, and to Falmouth in general, in coming years.” Ends Issued on behalf of the Falmouth BID. Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID Manager can be emailed richardwilcox@falmouth.co.uk or via 01326 313553
The Spring Clean Days will, thanks to volunteer efforts and delivery support from the University of Exeter, be spread over two days and include beach cleans, urban landscaping

Why join Scouts?
8
“We go on awesome camps and hikes”. “I have loved going to camp – you meet lots of friends and learn new skills. You also have some time away from home, in the wild!” “At Scouts we have amazingly helpful leaders who are welcoming, kind and help guide you to success”. “We do many fun activities from pitching tents whilst blind folded to kayaking, archery and rifle shooting. I enjoy every Wednesday coming to see friends and more activities -‐ a wait every time. I love it!” Just a few of the comments made by our Scouts here at 2nd Falmouth (All Saints) Scout group. We have seen numbers decline over the last few years and have become increasingly aware that many of the more traditional Scouting activities are now being offered as extracurricular activities by Secondary schools in the area. Whilst you can enjoy these activities with school friends, Scouts does bring much more to the table. A wide range of activities is undertaken – orienteering, pioneering, along with those mentioned above, are perhaps the most obvious; but there is also work undertaken towards gaining badges (of which there are many) and some of that knowledge and those skills are definitely not ones you would immediately consider! And, all of the things you learn are put to practice when you get the chance to go on camp. Summer and winter nothing deters the Scouts! Outdoor activities in abundance, campfire cooking and snuggly sleeping bags – this must be the best character building activity you can be a part of! You will meet new friends, gain a range of life skills and have great fun doing so. We are a small group that meet every Wednesday at the Bosvale Hall (behind Boslowick shops) in Falmouth from 6.30pm until 8pm and with weekly subs at only £2.00 with all these activities in store – that has to be good value for money! So if you are aged between 10 ½ and 14 come along for a free taster session – boys and girls both welcome. 2nd Falmouth (All Saints) Scout group also have a Beaver colony for children aged 5 ¾ to 8 ½ and a Cub Pack for those aged 8 to 10 ½ -‐ both of those groups meet on a Friday evening from 6pm to 7.30pm at Falmouth School Sixth Form Centre (around the back, by the sports hall). More information can be gained by calling Lavinia Holden on 01209 860424, 07845 911750, or email lou2ndfal@aol.com and please do find us on Facebook for information and regular updates. Make your own Easter tree Ok, so Christmas is the time of year for trees, but why not try creating an Easter tree to hang your pretty decorated eggs ? An Easter tree (or branch) is simple and pretty – you just need to find the right shaped branch and a heavy-bottomed stable vase, then you can pretty it up even more by wrapping parts of the branches in wool. Here’s how:
You will need: A branch from a tree - choose a nice shape with several branches out to the sides so all of your eggs will be on display A vase or pot plant to hold it Wool Scissors Also helpful: Some sand to weigh the vase down How to make your own Easter tree: 1. Remove any leaves from the tree and snap off a few twigs to make a little space. Pick your starting point and tie the end of a piece of wool into a knot. 2. Hold the shorter piece against the branch and start wrapping the wool around the branch and shorter length to hide it. You’ll need to keep the wool ball together to make it easier to wrap around the branch – holding the branch firmly between your legs will also help. 3. When you come to a fork in the branch, loosely wrap the wool as far as you want it, then wrap as normal back up the length of the branch, covering any gaps. Continue up the branch. 4. Mix it up a little – skip some branches and wrap others. You don’t need to wrap the entire branch (unless you want to, of course!) – just do as little or as much as you like. 5. Place in a vase and fill the vase with sand for stability. Then hang your eggs.

Jesus used this story to teach us that we should pray for the right reasons, warns against thinking that we are better than others and that no-‐one is beyond the reach of God’s love and forgiveness. Another song brought us (31 in all) to the four activities: -‐ • Dissolving ink and even paper in various household chemicals (God’s forgiveness washes away our sins) • Making prayer bracelets from coloured wools (to remind us, like the tassels on a Jewish prayer shawl, to pray) • Dipping 2 pieces of fruit in chocolate, one to eat ourselves and one to give away (to learn about giving to others and to God) • A low obstacle course (to show us that life is full of hurdles to overcome). The light supper which followed was greatly enjoyed before the families dispersed, having had an enjoyable and thought provoking afternoon. All are invited to join the informal style of Christian worship for the whole family involving celebration, storytelling, singing, creative activity and a meal together. The th next gathering at St Francis School is Sunday 28 February between 4 and 6pm. To find out more about Messy Church visit www.messychurch.org.uk or call Mary and Michael Wright on 01326 210824
