Free workshop: Coping with Insomnia On January 9th 2016 at 10am.
At Inspiring Health, the new Health and Wellbeing Centre in Falmouth Booking essential. Please call 01326 212112 For more information, go to www.inspiringhealth.org.uk
At Inspiring Health we understand how important sleep is, and can help you address the cause of your insomnia. Our free workshop covers useful facts, tips and advice, plus how to use natural remedies to help you overcome sleep problems and get a good night’s rest. Insomnia includes difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep, and there are many reasons for this. They include your diet, work and social environment, health problems, medication and, very commonly, stress and anxiety.
Natural therapies can help pinpoint the cause of your insomnia, and resolve it. Why not come along to our workshop and find out how we can help you and, just as importantly, how you can help yourself. Until then, here are six essential tips for getting a good night’s sleep:
1. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Vigorous exercise is best – including brisk walking! 2. Leave at least two hours between eating and going to bed. Don’t go to bed feeling full – or hungry. 3. Avoid drinking caffeine – particularly coffee and fizzy drinks – and alcohol in the evening. The former will tend to keep you awake, the latter result in disrupted sleep and waking through the night. 4. Make sure your mattress is comfortable and if not, consider buying a new one. Your body’s needs for comfort and support change as you get older! 5. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up the same time every morning. A regular routine helps establish a regular sleep pattern. 6. If you wake in the night, get up, go into another room and do something non-‐stimulating for a while, such as reading or listening to music. 7. Create an oasis of calm in your bedroom, by making it comfortable, quiet and inviting. Keep it free of distractions such as phones, computers and television. 8. Try having a relaxing, pampering bath before bed. Add a few drops of a soothing essential oil such as chamomile, lavender or clary sage to the water, light some candles in the bathroom, play some soothing music. 9. Burn essential oils in an aromatherapy diffuser in the bedroom, and listen to music or relaxation tapes to lull mind and body into sleep. 10. Turn the alarm clock around so you can’t see the time if you wake up in the night. Ring 01326 212112 to book your place on this FREE two hour workshop (booking essential) February 13th: Managing Menopause workshop

Every day, 85 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West*. But the good news is that research, funded through Race for Life events in Falmouth, Penzance and Truro, is helping men, women and children to survive the disease across the region. Race for Life is an amazing women-only series of events, which raises millions of pounds every year for life-saving research to beat 200 types of cancer. One in two people will get cancer at some point in their lives. But thanks to advances in research, more people are surviving than ever before. Ruth Chamings, Race for Life event manager for the South West, said: “Race for Life in Falmouth was a fantastic event. We want to say a heart-felt thanks to everyone who took part or supported our participants, as well as the wonderful volunteers who helped make it happen. Already the generosity of local people has raised an amazing £46,875, but we still have a bit of way to go to reach our target of £55,000…Last year, a third of the women who took part didn’t return any sponsorship money. Without this money, Race for Life can’t fund the research that’s needed to help save more lives. As the number of people diagnosed with cancer in the South West continues to rise, we need the support of local people now more than ever….So, whatever the amount, we’re asking everyone to make every effort to return their sponsorship money as soon as possible. It can be paid in online, by phone or by cheque.”
www.sweetpeabetty.co.uk
Make It Count! Many women who take part in Race for Life forget to return their sponsorship money. This year, please don’t let it be you! There are three ways to return sponsorship money: Online at www.raceforlife.org, By phone by calling 0300 123 0770 Or Send a cheque, payable to "Cancer Research UK" to Race for Life, PO Box 1579, Oxford, OX4 9HX.

The Lights are ON
Have you noticed the glow over Falmouth on crisp winter evenings this year? Tennis in Cornwall has been given a huge boost with brand new floodlights on our four courts at the Falmouth Sports Club. In the past we have had to downsize from four to two courts in the winter months. January 2016 sees a new dawn for tennis in Cornwall, four floodlit tennis courts! We owe huge thanks to West Country Fruits, Pendennis Shipyard and SITA for their generosity and help with this project. The Falmouth Sports Club, Western Terrace, has evolved greatly over the past century. The club started with grass tennis courts and two squash courts. Later the courts were resituated to their current position. We now have four floodlit hard tennis courts, three squash courts, a clubhouse with studios, a gym and a huge bar. Want to get back into sport after Christmas….come and see us!

With an outstanding 40+ years experience between them, we meet the dynamic, fresh team that makes up TONI&GUY Falmouth, starting with the Franchisees themselves, Stacey and Chelsea. Chelsea started hairdressing when she was 16 years old, with a natural flair for colouring hair she decided to take the technical route. Chelsea was chosen as one of the rising stars of TONI&GUY nationally and was selected as one of three colour technicians to be part of the prestigious TONI&GUY breakthrough team, a year long scholarship like programme where young hairdressers are mentored along some of the greatest hairdressers. Stacey started her career with TONI&GUY in 2003, working with the company for 6 years she worked her way through the ranks, while doing this she attended TONI&GUY's Art Director programme in London every other week. In 2009 she took the bold step to go off on her own and open her own salon, Castle Rooms in Truro. The salon was a great success, so much so Stacey can claim to have a few celebrity clients visit her at Castle Rooms, she also supported the Falmouth University Fashion Show every year, with her and her team styling the hair for the show. Stacey's heart however always lay with TONI&GUY, she sold the salon to one of her staff and opened TONI&GUY in Falmouth along with Chelsea on the 28th February 2015. Kara has been with us from the start, a young exciting stylist; Kara is one to watch. Kara attended TONI&GUY's prestigious London Academy for her 6 week vardering programme (all TONI&GUY stylists and technicians undergo a very thorough training process before being allowed to work on the salon floor) before the salon opened. Since then she has attended a Men's course in London and is scheduled in February to audition to work on the styling team at London Fashion week. Emma also joined us at the start, having numerous years experience; she decided to focus on her love for colouring hair. Emma is known as our Ombre and Balayage expert, she is precise and concise with her approach to colouring and is a very popular member of the team. After an extremely busy start for TONI&GUY Falmouth, a new stylist joined us from TONI&GUY in Peterborough, D an is a very creative stylist. Known as a perfectionist, Dan really likes to take his time with his clients and create the perfect look for them. Dan has been hairdressing for numerous years and has a wealth of experience under his belt. Finally our Assistant team, the back bone of the salon who makes the whole salon run like clockwork, Abbey and Jess. Both very forward thinking individuals we are extremely excited to see what the future holds for them both.

Hayley Gets Her Hair Done TONI&GUY style! You can imagine my excitement when I received a very special invitation to go along and review TONI&GUY Falmouth! I was of course easily persuaded when Stacey mentioned the full works! Full head of highlights, cut blow dry and a few extras. Eeek! I personally, have recently been using a mobile hairdresser. One of the main reasons being it has made it easier on me to get the little members of my family’s hair cut at the same time and I wouldn’t be leaving them for too long - a good result and not very much fuss. So, on 3rd December I made my way to the light and airy, modern salon. I was apprehensive, but was immediately put at ease by the warm, happy welcome. My coat was taken for hanging up and before I was even seated I was offered a choice of drinks: On this cold and windy day, the Hot Chocolate arrived with a biscuit and a glass of Smarties! During this initial meeting and greeting I was on first name terms very quickly and introduced to Chelsea, Technical Director, who would be colouring my hair. She knew exactly what I was asking for and why, so whilst she mixed up the colours (which seemed only to take seconds) I started to people watch through those large glass windows; not feeling at all like a spectacle. Conversation flowed with Chelsea and she was very efficient with the full head of foils, which meant time flew. I felt very relaxed and well looked after. At each stage I was consulted as to what would happen. Whilst the colour had to set in for 25 minutes I was offered another refreshment and I went for a beautiful cup of tea, which again, came with a new biscuit and a new glass of smarties. Supplied with plenty of up to date magazines to read I was then surprised with a nice little complimentary hand massage from Jess, using Sanctuary Spa, Covent Garden Hand Lotion! So that was that, my waiting time was over and I hadn’t even sat there staring in the mirror at myself yet, muttering how silly I looked with the foils in my hair! I was once again offered another drink, so opted for a chilled apple juice (and yes it came with smarties! I promise I didn’t eat them all.) I was so tempted to have a glass of wine or three…maybe next time! Jess made me comfortable in the discrete hair spa area with a chair that massaged my back adding to the good atmosphere and my relaxation. I have never had my hair washed so gently, there was not one pull or tug and the smooth/repairing head massage treatment with a hot towel was divine. Stacey (Manager) was ready to cut my hair and we agreed on the style, not too different but a few tweaks. She again, was very gentle and good conversation past the time. My hair felt great and was blow-dried exactly as I liked it. By this time I had lost all sense of time and was completely relaxed and in the pampering ‘me time’ zone….lovely. Stacey introduced me to some hair products, which they have a fantastic selection, great for gifts too. She told me about the Salon and that they cater for men and women and if you fancy your luck – ‘walk ins’ too. I was offered the Brightening Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner by label.m. I have been trying them out and I can assure you they are preventing dryness, tangling and breakage that can often come with blonde colouring. My hair is strong and glistening after washing. I also use the Blow Out Spray by label.m for heat protection and volume. I can definitely notice more of a bounce and lift in my hair after blow drying, if that’s of interest to you go and get some to try! If you have time to call in whilst you are in Falmouth, go and have an informal discussion with the professionals and take their advice because I can highly recommend their colour, cut and most of all the experience of feeling totally relaxed and pampered!

My Favourite Book: 88 The Narrow Road by Felix Dennis. Felix gave me the book 4 years ago and I've read it every few months since. It is now covered in notes and highlighted quotes. Definitely worth reading for all business owners.
My Favourite film: There's 3, Robin Hood, There Will Be Blood and Interstellar.

What Makes Me Happy: When I can over deliver when working with someone, and they are very happy with the results.
Life would be simpler if... We didn't have to sleep My top tip: It is always the right time and this is the only place we have My Simple pleasure: Drinking strong coffee first thing in the morning and having a clean and tidy desk.
Luxury item I last bought:
My Favourite Food: Beans on toast... Lunch, breakfast and dinner. My Hobbies: Cycling, movies and waking up at ridiculous times. My Favourite item of clothing: My scratched up watch that I've owned for too long, but my mum bought it for me, so it's my favourite by obligation. My Proudest moment: When I was 10 or 11 I would busk every day, to save up for a new guitar. A man gave me ÂŁ5 and told me to get some guitar lessons with it, regardless my proudest moment was making enough for it, despite it being paid for with a carrier bag full of coins.
