Recap of Events: August August 6th - Color Run “Color Run was honestly the best event I have been to so far. I usually don’t go to events a lot but having a chance to be up on stage and just scream, sing and dance my heart out was the best. Throwing items at people (and accidentally hitting their face), going into the crowd, dancing and singing with others made me way more open like how Fall Rally North made it easy for me to be confident.” -Jesstine Lintag

“It was fun because you got to fill up bottles of powdered paint and spray runners the whole time. It would get super dusty and everything would be all blue.” -Ricky Le

August 7th - SHS Back to School Social

“The back to school social was fun because I got to interact with my friends before school started and play water games with each other. People brought food and we almost wet the food as we tried to throw water balloons at each other. -Nhu Emily Nguyen

Recap of Events: August August 18th - Rancho Murieta Kiwanis Takeover Sheldon’s President Justina Voong and Pleasant Grove’s President, Austin Thom, led the Kiwanis meeting through pledges, opening, and much more.

August 13th-14th - 70th Annual Japanese Food & Culture Festival “I really enjoyed the Japanese Bazaar event because I got to get out of the house and also meet new people. It was very busy and hectic at times but also enjoyable as to having a great friendly atmosphere. We filled cups up with boba and tea or did other related things like writing down orders. Venh and I actually went a bit over our shift because it was still busy and they didn't have a lot of people working there. But it’s okay because HELPING PEOPLE IS FUN. The owners of the place are also very friendly! They gave us free tshirts as a gift.” -Michelle Yang

August 20th - August DCM & Summer Olympics

August 20th - Froyo Run

“I poured water for the runners. I mean it hurt my back because there was a mob but it was fun to see their smiles trying to finish the race. -Minh Chau Tran

A pigment of service - sean nguyen

This past month I attended the Color Run with my Key Club Ohana and it has been one of the most memorable experiences for me and maybe even my Key Club Moment. I attended the event not knowing if I would be doing the color station or handing out water but a few of my friends and I made it on stage! We threw colors, spirit gear and I even danced, and it was a blast! Even though this was a really fun job, what made it even special was that I had the chance to do it with my friends, seeing them happy made me enjoy it a lot more. This is only the start of my Key Club Journey for 2016-2017 and I already know that it will be a great one. Fall Rally, DCON 2017, and service… I CAN’T WAIT! I can’t wait to see everyone reach new heights this year, let’s make it a great one!

My key club adventure - yen nguyen

Hello! As some of you may know, my name is Yen. I could remember my first ever Key Club event; The Urban Cow Half Marathon! Even though we had to wake up before sunrise, it was worth it because that was when it was a start of forming new friendships and bonds. Then came Fall Rally North where everything came together, where we cheered and screamed our hearts out, where we won the spirit stick. I’m very glad I got to be apart of Division 7 South during the fraction of the year. Sadly, I became uncommitted because I was busy and other things overpowered my Key Club life. Thankfully, I had the chance to become a part of the Key Club ohana again. I attended Eppie’s Great Race and it was my first event of the year. I was thrilled to see and volunteer with the friends that I’ve made. It was also awesome that we got to interact with other people which made the event that much more fun! I remember since we were so thirsty, (Sean Jenny and I) we bought two rounds of Dutch Bros and it made us pretty “hyped up”. As the day came to an end, I made a promise to myself that I will be committed to Key Club this year and not let distractions get to me. My next event is the Color Run which I’ve heard is a fun event to go to! I’m looking forward to volunteer and just have a good time in general. The event I’m most excited for is the Night Nation Run because there’s going to be music, volunteering, and people, what could go wrong with that? Thanks for letting me share my Key Club story with you, and I hope you have a nice day!

Service events. To many people, they’re just ways to get their required hours for school but for most of us Key Clubbers, they’re our way to give back to the community selflessly, our stress relievers, and our gateway to meeting new friends. From cleaning parks to throwing paint to runners, there’s always that adrenaline that kicks in that just keeps us going, and seeing the smile on people’s faces as we help only makes it even more worthwhile. In a way, I’m addicted to it and I don't think I ever want to stop attending them. Keeping this in mind, one of my main goals this year is to go to at least 3 service events every month and accumulate around 120 hours of community service. With this, all the stress and headache that senior year is about to give me will surely go away. Also as IT IS MY LAST YEAR, I want to leave an impact to the next generation of key clubbers. I want to help show them the joy of serving the community and the family that they can find in Key Club. I hope you all enjoyed your summer, but now it's time to get ready for school and get back to our Key Club rhythm. Page 20

Monsters of the Month

Member and officer of the month Member of the Month - MICHELLE YANG This member has gone above and beyond even though school was quickly approaching and summer homework demanded efficient cramming. She attended a majority of Sheldon’s service events even though no one else would volunteer at her same shift. She attended our Back to School social and even invited some of her friends to join hoping that they would join Key Club this year too. In all, not only is Michelle promoting Key Club through service, but through exemplifying how welcoming Key Club is in the huge ohana.

Page 22

Officer of the Month - Justina voong Dictator of Sheldon Key Club (kidding), this soul has given her heart and soul to the one purpose she lives for (us, Sheldon Key Club). She has worked nonstop during the summer even though she was overloaded by her job over the summer and the ample amount of summer homework. Not only was she able to plan Open Mic Night and school fundraisers, but she is proactively promoting key club before club rush with trifolds and brochures that jam in her mailbox all the time because she has so many to offer. Even though she is quiet sometimes, it is because she is in immense thought of what to do next. She make the new membership forms and is even working out the applications for Member Recognition committee!!! So keep on the look out!
