WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The Travel and Tourism industry is one of the most vibrant industries in the world. This course gives students a lively and varied introduction to the travel industry. The course is equivalent to three A levels after two years. The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport launched Visit Britain’s long-term tourism growth strategy for Britain. This ambitious strategy, delivering a Golden legacy: a growth strategy for inbound tourism 2012-2020 aims to attract 40 million international visitors a year, spending £31.3 billion, by 2020. This will generate an estimated 225,000 jobs. The Greater Manchester strategy for the Visitor economy 2014-2020 alongside Manchester Airport will play an important role in the delivery of this vision and as a result, travel students can expect many future employment opportunities.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER THE COURSE?

On successful completion of the course it may be possible for students to apply directly for aviation employment, use the course toward further education. You will also have the opportunity to study a degree at university, enabling you to advance your knowledge and enhance your job prospects.

KEY INFORMATION

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and/or maths

LENGTH OF COURSE: Two years

ASSESSMENT: Internally assessed portfolio work (100% internal with no exams), a mixture of assignments, reports, presentations and roleplays

TYPE OF COURSE: NCFE Introductory Diploma, progressing to an extended diploma on successful completion of year 1
