HELLo everyone! & welcome back to 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!

So, you wanna be an Influencer? This week I want to help anyone out there who aspires to be an influencer, content creator or online personality. So if this is you, your sister, brother, nephew, daughter... keep reading! So, Molly Mae is being talked about a lot this week - she just announced that she is the Creative Director of Pretty Little Thing which is HUGE. It is also reported to be worth over 2 million pounds. Now... before you get up on your pedastal saying 'she should get a real job' etc... please, educate yourself. The influencer marketing industry is a very real thing worth a lot of money... clearly. And when done right, it is very profitable. The problem is... a lot of people don't know how to go about it, so here are my tips.

1) DON'T DO WORK FOR FREE / IN EXCHANGE FOR PRODUCT: If a brand reaches out, and wants to send you free product that is PR, that is not payment in exchange for a list of requirements and or demands. Brands have a budget for this type of thing, you should ALWAYS be paid and if they want usage rights, you should charge extra for that. Of course, you can make exceptions for a small local business you wanna help out but be SELECTIVE. Content Creation is work, and by doing things for free you're undermining the industry and allowing brands take advantage. Exposure does not pay bills. 2) BE AUTHENTIC: I don't care how much you're offered, if it does not align with you or your personal brand, it's not worth ANY amount of money. 3) PLAY THE LONG GAME: You don't reach Molly Mae level by trying to go viral overnight, yes, Molly Mae went on Love Island and naturally that gave her more exposure, BUT... she was an influencer before Love Island and plenty of people who have gone on the show have not even came close to her level of success. Why? Because a lot of them played the short game, took short term deals and didn't have a clear long term plan. I hope these tips help!

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Ryles Remedies by Mike and Gráinne Ryle Gráinne, can you give us some back-to-school health tips?

Summer has whizzed by yet again, uniforms are fitted, books covered and buses arranged. The house is set to return to early mornings – but what about making sure everyone is healthy and ready for the challenges of the new school year? Packing the dreaded fruits & veggies into the lunchbox is key, but be sure to supplement with a good multivitamin tonic. Coughs, colds and other bugs circulate like wildfire once the classrooms fill up again in September – it’s a trend we’re guaranteed to see every year and the best way to stave this off is by dosing up on vitamins and minerals in the run-up to back to school.

Sky One To Shut Down on 1st September

Sky One is to shut down will be replaced by a new channel named Sky Showcase.Sky One was first launched in Ireland and UK back in 1982 Sky Showcase, which will show off the best of Sky’s portfolio, the network Sky is launching the channel Sky Max to show off their own original content dramas and entertainment show. All original comedy series from Sky will now air on their channel Sky Comedy. Meanwhile, Sky Atlantic will continue to be the primary channel in Ireland and the UK to air content from HBO and Showtime, along with other premium dramas such as I Hate Suzie. Sky has suggested that the new channels will make it easier to find what to watch easier

Have I been Pawned?

There are many options for all ages, but our favourites for school ages are: • Vivio Junior: a delicious orange-flavour multivitamin and mineral liquid which helps to stimulate appetite, a huge plus in picky eaters • Lil’ Critters Gummy Vites: essential vitamins & minerals in a tasty (sweet-like!) gummy • Revive Teen: specially formulated for teenagers aged 13 – 18, designed to support a teenager’s active lifestyle and rapid growth A good probiotic supplement (such as BioKult Infantis) is also a huge support to immune and gut health (in fact, a daily probiotic supplement is a great shout for the entire family!) Lastly, consider picking up a tea tree repellent spray to try to prevent any unwelcome visitors making their way home on your children’s heads! Myths float around that headlice only like dirty hair, or exceptionally clean hair – in reality these little creepy crawlies are happy to hop on to any available scalp! They’re almost impossible to prevent if they fancy the journey across heads enough, but a spritz of tea tree repellent spray each morning might be enough to help dodge that bullet! OUR PROPERTY PAGE IN ASSOCIATION WITH TOMMY CARMODY’S PROPERTY HOUSE

Tommy’s current market outlook... Hi Tommy myself and my partner are considering purchasing a residential investment property but having spoken to various people recently and from reading various articles we are a little sceptical as there appears to be a lot of negativity surrounding rights as owners, obligations as landlords and costs associated with the process. If you could give us some thoughts on this it would be great. Lorraine and Steven Hi Lorraine and Steven. Thank you for reaching out. You are right - there is a lot of negativities surrounding this topic at present (a lot unfounded). For example there are constant reports of landlords exiting the market. In my experience a lot of the landlords exiting the market are in fact “accidental landlords” who are those

who never envisaged being landlords but did so because they were unable to sell the property as the sale price would have been so depressed versus what they paid for the home in the boom. This is no longer the case. There is considerable legislation surrounding lettings at present, some is with us to stay, some measures are short term due to Covid. Legislation will be forever evolving but by being fully up to speed on all you will find it is not as daunting as you might initially think. There are costs associated with renting a home such as bringing a home up to minimum standards, registering with the RTB, Revenue/VAT/ Tax Compliance but by getting the right financial advice will minimise this. Tailored advice is best, as you could be purchasing a home to rent with

cash, loan or through a pension fund and the monetary implications vary dramatically. If you use a registered agent to rent and/or manage your property there will be costs involved but they can be recouped. The good news if you do decide to invest is that, currently, the demand for rental accommodation is exceptionally strong, particularly for well-located and tastefully decorated property. Tommy Carmody’s Property house for example have a range of PRE-APPROVED tenants looking for 3 and 4 bedroom homes - 2 of our preapproved tenants are families relocating to Tralee to start work in MTU

There is a lot to cover to be honest but if we were to have a coffee and a run down we could cover all in about 30 minutes and mind should be put to ease and we will do so by discussing all in an uncomplicated manner. Speak soon, hopefully.

Tommy

12 KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Ballybunion Arts Festival starts Thursday 9th September Ballybunion Arts Festival was born in the first lockdown when Marian Relihan and Katie Bridget O’Brien were discussing how difficult it was for Artists who need to perform and earn a living, and how much we miss being entertained. The 500-seater Tintean Theatre is a wonderful asset in a town that has worldrenowned beaches, bars, restaurants and hotels. Ballybunion is a natural venue for an Arts event. The Festival kicks off with Opening Night Thursday 9th September in the Tintean

Theatre and closes on Sunday 12th with Sean Keane performing his show in the Tintean. Bernard Casey is live on Friday night and of course he will bring the house down with his brilliant comedy. Eilish O’Carroll of Mrs Brown’s Boys fame is presenting her sellout one-woman show, Live, Laugh, Love on the Saturday night. Also on Saturday night, Aoife Scott will be in concert. Local writer and performer, Dee Keogh, is premiering her one-woman show, Why I Never Met Oprah… Yet!, on Sunday

afternoon. As well as these performances, there are Irish language events, Máire Holmes (Kerry Writer in Residence) is doing an online workshop on Saturday morning. There is a Comhrá agus Ceol gathering in the Railway Bar Sunday afternoon. Lisa Fingelton is facilitating a ‘Drawing in Nature ‘ workshop on her organic garden just outside the town. Rena Blake is leading a photography workshop. You can join the outdoor Yoga class led by Cathy

Healy, a meditation led by Rosarie O’Connor, or join the Ballybunion Dippers for a morning and evening swim. Go to www.ballybunionartsfestival. ie and www.tintean.ie for more details.

Mind your Language and create the change your heart desires! Louise Hay is a renowned author and meta physicist who has written and published over 100 books translated into many languages. In any good bookshop on the selfhelp or spiritual section you will find one of her books, on finding the power to heal your life to how to develop your self esteem and heal yourself through awareness and positive affirmations. What is an affirmation? It is a positive statement to counteract an ailment, whether emotional or physical sickness. It is the power of positive reflection and action which leads to wellness and away from disease. In today’s world we are so ‘busy’, we often create a chaotic environment

around us which can lead to dis-ease. We can stop and do it differently! As Louise Hay says ‘… it is simple but not always easy!’ What three things can we do today to start on a positive journey towards being happy? 1. Change our negative selftalk! Replace the negative words with positive language (e.g. eliminate no or not and replace should with could) and develop relationships with positive people who add to our self-esteem. Become aware, change our attitude, say affirmations and act differently! We have 24 hours in each day! How much time do we spend in the past or in the future. Let us learn to be in the now. Meditate, focus on

breathing, attend yoga classes, etc. 2. Keep a gratitude journal! Develop an attitude of gratitude and watch our dreams come true! 3. Be kind and gentle to ourselves – look in the mirror every morning and say ‘I love you …..(name)’! and take time to think about what you say and how you say it. Attend a Louise Hay Heal your Life workshop either face to face or online and join a community of positive people who are creating the change they want to see in the world (Ghandi). Alison Boardman, who is an international Louise Hay teacher and group facilitator currently lives between Ireland and Portugal, can be contacted for online coaching through

English. She also runs half day, day and weekend workshops on the insights and learnings she has gathered over the last thirty years to help you in business or in your personal life on your journey to being your best self. www.alisonboardman.com info@alisonboardman.com

Fenit RNLI’s local knowledge ensures dramatic rescue in Castlegregory Fenit RNLI and Rescue 115 Helicoptor had been requested to launch by the Irish Coast Guard last Sunday morning at 11am after the discovery of clothes on a beach in Castlegregory. At 8.30pm volunteer lifeboat crew with Fenit RNLI spotted a head above the water and took the swimmer onboard the All Weather Lifeboat. It is not known how long the swimmer had been in the water but the casualty was brought to Fenit Harbour to be met by ambulance and brought to

hospital. Early on Sunday , Fenit RNLI All-Weather Lifeboat crew were on exercise when they were tasked to a search for swimmer at 12.40pm, following the discovery of clothes on a beach near Camp . Fenit RNLI Inshore lifeboat and Rescue 115 also joined the search. Conditions were excellent with calm waters and low tide and a search was undertaken of the area. With nothing found and no further information the search was stood down in the afternoon. At 6pm the search was reactivated at the request of An Garda Siochana with the two lifeboats searching the original area and the bay nearer to Tralee and again joined by Rescue 115 overhead. RNLI coxswain Finbarr O’Connell calculated where the man was likely to be having studied tides in the area.Yesterday, Fenit RNLI volunteer Jackie Murphy said it had been a ‘miracle’ the man had survived the ordeal, and credited Mr O’Connell with pinpointing the man’s likely location. At 8.30pm, volunteer lifeboat crew with

Fenit RNLI spotted a pod of dolphins and a head above the water about two and a half miles off Castlegregory beach. The casualty was conscious and immediately recovered onto the lifeboat and brought Fenit Harbour to be taken to hospital. Fenit RNLI’s medical advisor was also on scene. The man has been identified as Ruairí McSorley - star of the viral video ‘Frostbit boy’. Commenting on the rescue Fenit RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Gerard O’Donnell said, ‘ After a long and exhaustive search, members of the lifeboat crew were overjoyed to sight the missing

swimmer in the water. They had been scanning the water for any sign of movement and were worried with light fading that they would not find anyone. Even at this time of year, the water can be very cold and as yet we don’t know how long this person was in the water and when they entered it. When the lifeboat crew found them they were a good distance from the shore and were exhausted.’ ‘We would advise that anyone undertaking a swim lets people know where they are going and when they expected back. This was a very lucky individual.’

16 HOGANS WOULD LIKE TO THANK TO ALL OUR SUPPLIERS, BUSINESSES, TRADES PEOPLE AND MANY FRIENDS WHO SUPPORTED US WITH THE REOPENING OF HOGAN'S FUNERAL HOME

SERENITY GARDEN

Hogan's serenity garden is over 30 x 12 metres and provides a quite reflective space for families and close friends during a time of grief. The garden has its own water feature, seating and beautiful shrubs and flowers to help add to the calming nature.

HOGANS... A LITTLE HISTORY AND SEAN, THE NEW OWNER Hogans was established in 1933 by Eugene Hogan. His son Gerard took over the business and ran the funeral business until his passing in January 2020. John O'Rahilly worked alongside Gerard and has over 60 years in the business. Sean Lynch of Kerry Funeral Directors, Castlegregory recently purchased the business. He has been in the funeral business for over 30 years and with John, they have over 90 years of experience priding themselves on the care, sensitivity and attention to the deceased needs and loved one's requirements during this period of loss.

OUR FAMILY ROOM Sean believes that it is important to provide a separate space for families to take time out and has provided a lounge with a coffee/tea station. There is also a piano there should they wish for music to be provided.

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS...

from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance

Smile. It’s Your Birthday! By Georgina Downes Here’s a really good reason to show off those pearly whites; Susan Crean Dental, which set up in glorious Denny Street Tralee last year, is celebrating its first birthday. That’s great news for everyone involved, especially considering the year that’s in it. But it is even better news for her patients who attend the family practice that “aims to make dental treatments fun and enjoyable.” Taking the fear out of a trip to the dentist is one of Dr Crean’s objectives and so far, her strategy seems to be working. Then again, her premises is a far cry from the sterile-looking, intimidating spaces of the past. This is a practice that exudes warmth and style and glamour and it has been going from strength to strength since

opening its doors in August 2020. On top of that, Dr. Crean has been named All-Star Lifestyle Leader for Dental Facial Aesthetics 2021, for her contribution to the dental industry and to Kerry business in general. She was awarded the accolade due to her holistic approach to dental care, where everything is taken into account, from jaw joint, to gums to teeth. She is also highly respected in her field of dental facial aesthetics. On reaching the one-year milestone, Susan had this to say: “For a newly established clinic it is a phenomenal achievement as we celebrate our first year in business. We look forward to expanding the business further whilst

continuing to provide excellence in-patient care and customer satisfaction, creating new smiles and glowing skin for all our patients.”

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2021

EVERYBODY SALSA, EVERYBODY SALSA!

Now that we have the good weather back , lets make the most of it. Its time to fire up the BBQ, your Grill, Outside Oven... whatever you got! ...By now ye all know I’m a porkaholic, so get yourself some nice pork chops and see how peaches are a wonderful addition to the salsa sauce below ‘Pico de Gallo‘

SPICY HONEY-GLAZED GRILLED PORK CHOPS WITH PEACH PICO DE GALLO INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

4 (1½”-thick) bone-in pork chops (about 4 lb. total) 3 1½ tsp. salt, divided, plus more 1 Tbsp. crushed red pepper flakes ½ tsp. garlic powder ½ tsp. onion powder ½ tsp. smoked paprika 1 tsp. cumin seeds, divided ½ cup honey 2 ripe peaches or nectarines, cut into 1” pieces ½ small red onion, finely chopped 1jalapeño, finely chopped Juice of 2 limes ¼ cup chopped coriander Vegetable oil (for grill)

METHOD Trim excess fat from pork chops. Pat dry and season both sides with salt. Set aside. Mix red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, ½ tsp. cumin seeds, and 1 tsp. salt in a small bowl to combine. Heat honey in a small saucepan over medium just until warm. Remove pan from heat and stir in spice mixture. Set spiced honey aside. Toss peaches, red onion, jalapeño, lime juice, coriander, remaining ½ tsp. cumin seeds, and remaining 2 tsp. salt in a medium bowl to combine. Chill peach pico de gallo until ready to serve. Prepare a grill for 2-zone heat (for a charcoal grill, bank two thirds of coals on one side of grill and scatter remaining coals on other side; for a gas grill, set one burner to high heat and remaining burners to medium-low); oil grate. Grill reserved chops on hotter side of grill, moving to cooler side as needed to control flare-ups, until lightly charred on both sides, about 3 minutes per side. Move pork chops to cooler side of grill, cover, and grill, turning often and basting with reserved spiced honey, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of pork chops registers 75 about 5 minutes longer. Transfer pork chops to a platter and let rest 10 minutes. Spoon peach pico de gallo over pork chops just before serving

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER boys train as normal. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 8,9, 14 and 30 with the next jackpot being e9,700.

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR THE MOST AWAITED SEMI-FINAL IN AGES IS FINALLY HERE: Usually as any Cup competitions reach their last four you get the usual previews that all the sides that are left deserve to be there etc and really everyone, outside of the participants, is waiting for the final line-up. Indeed it used to said that Kerry people didn’t travel in great numbers to semi-finals!! However the 2021 All Ireland football semi-final will be remembered and talked about long after Sunday. And don’t be surprised to see it dragged into future disputes where teams are looking for postponements. We all know the background and it must be said that the Kerry set-up handled the situation in an exemplary fashion from County Chair Tim Murphy down. They made their points and then stayed away from the controversy and media comments and did their prep work away from the glare. This is probably one of the main advantages of Currans as its secluded positioning means you don’t get fans trying to meet the players going / coming out of training and trying to get into the sessions. With the experience in the Kerry backroom it is expected that they two week delay won’t have been anything but a logistical issue. And after the game we hope Tyrone don’t keep on about how their preparation was affected and the players, if any, they were missing. What happened within their squad is their own responsibility. So by Saturday evening the expectation is that we will be focusing on a Kerry versus Mayo final. And for so many reasons that a whole other story – but one for next week! Big Screen in Pearse Park: While Croke Park is restricted to 24,000 for the game many will be looking for places to watch it. It could be sold out by now but well done to the Park Festival Tralee who have the game on a big screen in an open sided marquee in Pearse Park. Tickets cost e15 for up to 6 people were / are for sale and can be redeemed against food vouchers. The event will run from 3pm until 5.30pm as the Festival’s closing music event takes place in the marquee on Saturday night with Tralee band Oracle headlining. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The u7’s enjoyed their Go Games visit to Kerins O’Rahillys and will play Firies in the final of the series. The 8’s and 9’s were in Kilcummin where there was some cracking football played. All the younger ages train at the usual time this week. The 10’s and 11’s welcomed Na Gaeil while the u13’s have finished Phase 2 of their League Division 2 campaign. The A’s and B’s took on Kilcummin in two vital games. The A’s were hit by 4 goals from the home side to lead 4-03 to 1-04 at the break. They held on to win 5-07 to 2-10. They now turn their attention to the Central Region League. The B’s played in the Division B clash and were Friday 27th August 2021

in excellent form leading 1-08 to 0-02 at the break and pushed on to win 3-13 to 0-05. Their Central Region League commences next week. In the Lee Strand Central Region the u15 A’s defeated Ardfeft in Division 1 while the B’s went down away to Dingle. PARNELLS NEWS: The club presented two tickets for the All Ireland hurling final to their top sellers in the National Club Draw, Natalie Hennessy and Diarmuid Brennan as a thank you for all their hard work. The tickets were given anonymously to the club. The Draw was a big success for the club who thanks all those who supported the fundraiser. The u7 boys and girls and u8 girls enjoyed their training sessions this week. The u9’s had four teams in action against St Brendan’s. The u11’s put in a great performance in the rain away to Kenmare. The u13’s also played a challenge away to St Brendan’s and ran out easy enough winners after an exciting game. The club thanks St Brendan’s for hosting the game. Details of the Camogie Feile competition were announced this week. Parnells are in Division 1 alongside Causeway Maroon, Cillard and Killarney. Games will take place over three consecutive weekends with the semi-final and finals on the weekend of September 18th and 19th. Cillard won the first game and the team play Causeway this weekend. In Minor camogie the team went down to Causeway after a very exciting battle. In the Intermediate County Championship preliminary round St Brendan’s were defeated after a cracking encounter in Ardfert. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: For the Girls at u14 and u16 the North Kerry Championship will be starting in September with plenty of games to come after all the training. The u12’s played Dingle at home and in a low scoring game the girls took the win by 1 point. A trip to Kenmare is up next. Everyone wishes Anna Corridan a speedy recovery. The u14 Girls have a bye in Round 1 of the North Kerry League in a group with Dingle/Annascaul, Moyvane, Beale and Duagh. The u16’s will play their first game against Austin Stacks on September 6th. The Senior Ladies will play Rathmore B in Round 1 of the Championship. In the boys section the youngest were in action at the weekend with Aidan Kelly being named as the u5 Boys Player of the Week, Mia Doyle was named as the Award winner in the u6’s, the u7’s had two winners – Cian O’Brien and Evan O’Connor. The u8’s – u11’s trained as normal with great numbers attending. The u13’s were unlucky to go down to St Michaels Foilmore, the u15’s and u17

ANOTHER TROPHY FOR DYNAMOS TO CELEBRATE AT FAMILY FUN DAY: Tralee Dynamos will be hoping old and present members, supporters and anyone else that wants to will come to their pitch at Cahermoneen on Sunday September 5th for their Family Fun Charity Day. It will run from 1 to 4pm with an entry fee of just e20 for two adults and two kids. There will be tug of war’s, novelty races, an over 40’s Match which will feature many Dynamos legends (!!), face painting and a Dynamos underage team versus a Rest of the World side where you can were a national jersey of your choice. Penalty competitions will also take place. Knowing those involved in Dynamos there will be lots of nice food from the barbeque as well as other treats. A few hours of great fun will be had with the funds going to the Kerry Parents and Friends. And the club will also be celebrating its latest trophy, the KDL Summer u17 Challenge Cup, where they defeated Killarney Athletic 2-1 in a cracking final. The Reds goals came from Andy Rodgers and Eric Mahon. Dynamos had some great performances on the night with Nathan Rodgers the stand-out for me. At that game I was delighted to meet Frank Sheridan, the club legend I hadn’t seen for a while. His son was one of the Dynamos coaches and his grandson was on the team. Soccer in Kerry for some reason is shy in celebrating the family traditions that the sport is now seeing. Other codes certainly do make a big deal of family members following in their parents and grandparents boot prints. Soccer now has a growing number of 3rd generation players so time to celebrate this. LEAGUE OF IRELAND PHASE 2, FAI CUPS AND GAYNOR GROUPS ANNOUNCED: The Groups for Phase 2 of the EA Sports League of Ireland have been announced. The 14’s will play Treaty United, CarlowKilkenny,Wexford and Waterford. The 17’s are also in the Shield alongside Carlow-Kilkenny, Cobh Ramblers, Cork City, Galway UCT, Limerick, Treaty United and Wesford. In the 19’s Shield Kerry are in Group B alongside Waterford, Treaty United, Athlone Town, Longford Town and Wexford. The FAI have renamed their Junior Cups the Centenary Cups making the 100th birthday of the soccer association in the Republic. In the FAI U17 Centenary Cup St Brendan’s Park are away to Killarney Athletic in the Preliminary round to be played by the 12th of September. In the Youths The Park are at home to Newmarket Celtic on or before September 19th. Tralee Dynamos have a Bye to the first round proper where they will travel to the Desmond League to take on Shannon Hibernians. In the Girls Gaynor Cups delayed due to COVID, the Kerry 13’s are in Group C along with Cork WWSL, South Tipperary, Limerick County and Limerick Desmond. The 15’s are in with Cork, South Tipperary, Limerick County and West Cork.

that will start and finish at the John Mitchell’s and giving a choice of two routes – a 125km and a 75km. Food and entertainment will be available afterwards at the GAA grounds. The new date is Saturday 9th of October at 9am and registration is now open on eventbrite. HISTORIC OPEN WATER SWIMS BY TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB MEMBERS: It was a busy week in the water for some members of the Tralee Bay Swimming club. The swimmers were coached by Kevin Williams and officially observed by Elaine Burrows Dillane with Caroline Corkery and Eddie Stackalso involved. Margaret Gilbert saw the 11km from Sandy Bay in the Maharees to Locke’s Beach. This is the first time this swim was done since the club swim in 2009. Club Secretary Caroline Corkery also completed the same swim, the first nonwetsuit solo swim recorded. Rory Kirby swam the 10.6km from the Blennerville Lock Gates to Fenit Island and all three swims have been sent to the ILDSA -the body that ratifies long distance swims. Ken O’Sullivan completed a personal goal of swimming from Illaun Barra to Fenit Island. CRICKET NEWS: It was a good weekend at the crease for the County Kerry Cricket Club. The Kerry 1st X1 hit 237 to beat Midleton by 32 runs. The 2nd X1 hit a big 289 for 8 to defeat Cork Harlequins by 117 runs while the Kerry 3rd X1 were all out for 159 but then knocked Lismore out for 140 to win by 19 runs. The Kerry 4th X1 were all out for 116 losing to Cork 4th X1 who made 119 for 3. This weekend on Saturday in Division 1 the Kerry 2nd X1 are at home in the Oyster Oval to Midleton, the Kerry 4th are away to Cork Harlequins 4th with the game at Farmers Cross while on Sunday also at the Oyster Oval in Division 2 the Kerry 3rds are at home to Limerick 3rds. ON THE GREENS: PITCH AND PUTT NATIONAL MEDALS COME TO KERRY: It was a good day at the National u16 Strokeplay Championships in Lakeside, Co Tipperary with medals coming back to Kerry. The highlight from a Tralee point of view was the performance of sisters Ella and Sophie Moynihan. Ella was second for the second year in a row and Sophie taking fourth. Deerpark Killarney’s Bryan McCarthy won the u13 Helen McMorrow Memorial Cup while his club mate and my grandson Robbie Harnett was second in the u16 category having led in the clubhouse until the winner beat him by two shots. Robbie has relations in Tralee –the Behan’s in Oakpark. This weekend the places for the National Men’s Strokeplay will be decided at the Tralee course. 7 players will be chosen for the men’s competition, 8 in the intermediate and 5 in the Juniors. The finals will take place on the weekend of September 11th/12th.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !

A MILLIONAIRE WANTS HIS DAUGHTER TO MARRY...

So he decideds to host a competition for a small town nearby. “To any man who can swim across this Piranha infested pool of water unharmed, may have my daughter’s hand in marriage.” 20 men line up next to the pool and stand there to scared to move. Suddenly a man jumps into the water and is swimming with all his might. Finally he comes out of the water on the other side unharmed. “That was incredible,” said the millionaire,”I am a man of my word, so you may marry my daughter.” The man turns to him and says,”Look I don’t give a damn about your daughter, I just want to know the name of the bugger who pushed me in.”

I TOLD MY FRIEND THAT “LAST NIGHT THERE WAS A REAR-END COLLISION IN MY CAR PARK . After that, the drunk guy that hit the car gave me 800 euro and drove away”. My friend asked me “Is that enough to fix it?” I said “I don’t care, it wasn’t my car.”-

YOU ARE ON A HORSE GALLOPING AT A CONSTANT SPEED.

On your right side, is a sharp drop off and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you. Directly in front of you is another galloping horse, but your horse is unable to overtake it... Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the horse in front of you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation? Get your drunk behind off the merry-go-round.!

LAWYERS SHOULD NEVER ASK A GEORGIA GRANDMA A QUESTION IF THEY AREN’T PREPARED FOR THE ANSWER...

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know me?’ She responded, ‘Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I’ve known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you’ll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.’ The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?’ She again replied, ‘Why yes, I do. I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He’s lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.’ The defense attorney nearly died. The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, ‘If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I’ll send you both to the electric chair.
