Lynch Annual Schools Quiz

This weekend, Cara Credit Union proudly hosted the Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz at the Kerry Sports Academy. Almost 300 primary school children from Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, Causeway, and Corca Dhuibhne tested their brainpower in the annual Credit Union Schools Quiz. The questions covered a range of general topics including geography, history, music, literature, and sport. Cara Credit Union was delighted to welcome 74 teams from 41 primary schools along with their many loyal supporters.

The theme of the 2025 Credit Union School Quiz was ‘For Knowledge

Seekers,’ and the participants certainly lived up to it, with almost near-perfect scoring rounds. The aim of the Credit Union School Quiz is to encourage local children to work together and see what they are capable of achieving as part of a team.

Speaking about the quiz, Philip Lynch, Marketing Officer at Cara Credit Union, said, “We were delighted with the support from all the schools who battled it out for the fun-filled, action-packed two hours. With the talent in the room, it’s obvious that the future is in safe hands. Our thanks to all the schools, students, and their families, and of

course to the Cara Credit Union team for making this event one of the biggest events on the school calendar.”

In the Under 11 age category, the winners were Spa NS, with Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Eoin Baiste and Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn having to battle it out in a tie-breaker for 2nd and 3rd. Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Eoin Baiste came out on top by the narrowest of margins.

In the Under 13 age category, once again Spa NS secured first place, with a four-way tie-breaker needed to decide on second and third places. After a nail-biting round, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn came in second, very

closely followed by Castlegregory in third place.

Pa Ladie, CEO of Cara Credit Union, added, “We are humbled by the support we receive from our local schools, and together we wish to improve financial literacy for our future generations. The School Quiz, along with the Art Competition, are two of the highlights of our year, and we encourage all our younger members to get involved.”

The first and second place winners in both categories will now go on to represent Cara Credit Union at the next stage of the Credit Union Schools Quiz, the Chapter (regional) round of the National Schools Quiz.

Despite strong winds and heavy rain, hundreds participated in our 10K run and 5K fun run. A sudden road closure due to an accident could have disrupted the event, but thanks to the quick thinking of the organizing committee, a seamless Plan B was executed. Participants praised the smooth transition and community spirit. The event honored the late Brenda O’Connell (née Hartnett), with proceeds supporting Kerry Cancer Support Services. Huge thanks to Frank, Catriona, and Tony for their dedication in ensuring a successful race.
