unnecessary hospital visits, with the team attending to issues such as falls, reduced mobility, catheter concerns, and general unwellness. The Pathfinder team includes Advanced Paramedics, Occupational Therapists, and Physiotherapists who provide comprehensive inhome evaluations and follow-up care as needed. Operating Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm, with weekend coverage for follow-up calls, the service collaborates with primary care teams and community organizations for seamless support. Mary Fitzgerald, General Manager at UHK, highlighted the service’s success: “Pathfinder Kerry has played a vital role in keeping older adults

out of the hospital when possible. By offering medical assessments at home, we’re improving patient outcomes and easing pressure on emergency services.”

Kerry Co-op Confirms Agreement to Acquire Kerry Group’s Dairy Business

Kerry Co-operative Creameries

Limited (“Kerry Co-op”) has reached a significant agreement with Kerry Group plc to acquire 100% ownership of Kerry Dairy Holdings (Ireland) Limited (“Kerry Dairy Ireland”). This acquisition, to be completed in two stages, will involve a 70% stake acquired by January 2025, with the remaining 30% to follow over the next decade.

Key Proposal Details

To facilitate the transaction, Kerry Co-op proposes a share exchange: each Co-op member would receive 6.25 Kerry Group shares for every Co-op share currently

held, equivalent to 85% of their Co-op shareholdings. For Irish resident members, this exchange is structured to avoid immediate tax charges, with capital gains tax deferred until the sale or transfer of the new Kerry Group shares. The Co-op’s residual 15% shareholding in Kerry Group, along with additional financing, will fund the acquisition of Kerry Dairy Ireland in both stages. Through this purchase, Kerry Co-op gains control of regional milk processing facilities and valuable consumer brands, securing the future of local dairy farming families and strengthening the Co-op’s stake in the industry.

Special General Meeting for Approval

This transaction requires approval from Kerry Co-op’s A and B shareholders at a Special General Meeting (SGM) scheduled for 12 noon on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Gleneagle INEC Arena, Killarney. Detailed information on the proposal has been made available on the Coop’s website and is being distributed to members.

James Tangney, Chairman of Kerry Co-op, commented, “This agreement delivers full ownership of one of

Ireland’s top dairy businesses while allowing Co-op members flexibility to retain or sell their shares as they choose. It marks a transformative step for the Co-op and our farming community’s future.”

The acquisition remains subject to Kerry Group shareholder approval.

Warm Welcome for Kerry County Council’s

“Cyclists Dismount” Signs in Fenit

Kerry County Council’s decision to install “CYCLISTS DISMOUNT” signs along Fenit’s popular footpath has been well-received. Proposed by Cllr. Angie Baily and seconded by Cllr. Deirdre Ferris, the signs will be placed along the footpath from Locke’s Beach to the Bathing Slip, addressing increased safety concerns due to rising foot and bike traffic on the path.

Fenit has become a major attraction for outdoor recreation, especially with the addition of the Greenway and recent upgrades to the village by Kerry County Council. The footpath is frequently used by walkers, families, and cyclists. Local residents, who raised safety concerns, supported this initiative, noting that many cyclists are unaware of the local tradition of dismounting in

pedestrian areas. To support cyclists, Kerry County Council has already provided a secure bicycle parking area.

Regular footpath users, including the Fenit Slip Swimmers, welcome the signs. As a member, Billy Ryle shared that as a cyclist himself, he dismounts at the Greenway and enjoys walking to the Bathing Slip, underscoring that a shared path can benefit all users. There are growing concerns over e-bikes, which are heavier and faster than regular bicycles, raising safety risks, especially with increasing camper vans in nearby car parks.

Three to four “CYCLISTS DISMOUNT” signs are proposed along the footpath, echoing existing signage at the Greenway’s end. The community hopes that goodwill will

ensure compliance, enhancing safety for the elderly, wheelchair users, and young children. Regular users are grateful for the council’s swift action and eagerly await the installation for

HOME FOR CHRISTMAS !

An Irish dad calls his son in London the day before Christmas Eve and says, “I hate to ruin your day but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing.”

Long

“Dad, what are you talking about?” the son screams.

“We can’t stand the sight of each other any longer,” the father says. “We’re sick of each other and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Leeds and tell her.”

The son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “Like heck they’re getting divorced!”she shouts, “I’ll take care of this!”

She calls Ireland immediately, and screams at her father, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up.The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. “Sorted! They’re coming for Christmas –and they’re paying their own way”

Inspired, she created Shine On, a beautiful collection of stories and paintings that reflect individual experiences during this challenging period, with proceeds going to charity.

“The pandemic experience was different for everyone, with each story unique. Preserving these personal accounts gives a voice to those who felt unheard during that time. Sharing them offers both healing and mental health benefits,” Mary explained. Funds from Shine

On will support cancer services that remained vital throughout the pandemic, including Kerry Cancer Support Group, Cancer Connect, and Youghal Cancer Support.

Following a successful launch in Cork, Shine On will be launched in Kerry Library, Tralee, on November 23, 2024, at 3 p.m. Poet Barbara Derbyshire and some contributors will also share readings from the book.
