At The Killarney Park, luxury isn’t loud. It’s thoughtful. Every detail is considered and every moment is crafted with care. Every team member plays a vital role in shaping unforgettable guest experiences.
If you take pride in the smallest details. If you care deeply about making people feel welcome. If you want to be part of a new standard in quiet luxury. We would love to meet you.
We are recruiting for various positions in Culinary, Food and Beverage, The Spa, Front of House, and more ahead of our reopening on April 4, 2025. You can view our current opportunities at killarneyparkhotel.ie/careers time
On Friday, April 4th, 2025, The Killarney Park will unveil a significant transformation of its 69 guest rooms, suites, grounds, and gardens. This independent, family-owned five-star hotel, a proud member of Leading Hotels of the World®, has successfully completed the initial phase of its renewal and refurbishment programme. Its serene location, charming team, dedication to providing the most authentic guest experience, and core values guide every decision made. This initiative has been undertaken with great sensitivity to incorporate a comprehensive rebranding that reflects their new motto—time made richer—which perfectly embodies the experience of staying in their enchanting kingdom.
“For the family, scheduling the enhancement programme in two phases is crucial to ensure meticulous execution, grounded in sustainability, while delivering an authentic Irish hotel guest experience. By integrating Killarney’s natural beauty, local craftsmanship, and sustainable practices into the design, the refurbishment and rebranding create a uniquely Irish luxury experience. Stage two, commencing in early 2026, will transform the spa, introduce a sophisticated cocktail bar, and enhance the dining area,” stated Marcus Treacy, Managing Director.
From April, guests will enjoy the quiet luxury of the reimagined guest rooms and suites by the Irish firm McCauley Daye O’Connell
Architects. Drawing inspiration from Kerry’s history and landscapes, these spaces serve as tranquil retreats adorned with nature-inspired hues, creating a calming ambience that reveals itself slowly, gently inviting guests in. The design brief from the Treacy family was clear from the outset, resulting in every single touchpoint being carefully considered and sympathetic to the environment, featuring locally sourced materials and custom joinery crafted just 30 minutes away. With soft textiles and elegant furnishings, the atmosphere blends old-world Irish charm with modern amenities such as crisp bedding and minimal decoration. McCauley Daye O’Connell Architects’ research uncovered two beautifully preserved watercolours in the National Gallery of Ireland showcasing views of the Killarney Lakes. These were expertly photographed and turned into scenic wallpaper for the suites and a backdrop for classic rooms, making guests feel they are entering an immersive, painted world.
The interior design features the latest hotel technology, including presence-detected lighting, cooling, and electric curtains. Each element enhances the guest experience while being kind to the environment.
To source new in-room amenities, management dedicated months to researching world-class suppliers and discovered companies that aligned with their commitment to sustainability and matched the exceptional guest room experience
they aimed to create. Wildsmith will exclusively be provided in each bathroom so guests can enjoy mindful moments of luxury. Founded by horticulturist William Walker Wildsmith, Wildsmith Skin draws inspiration from the lush landscapes of Heckfield Place in Hampshire, where botanicals essential to its products are sourced. The brand emphasises biodynamic farming, eco-friendly packaging, and ethical sourcing to reduce environmental impact, embodying a holistic approach to beauty and sustainability.
Killarney Park combines modern entertainment with personalised service for a cohesive luxury experience. Rooms feature smart TVs for easy access to streaming platforms like Netflix and device mirroring. Alongside the technological upgrade, services such as room service and activity bookings emphasise personal
interaction, preserving the human touch that defines exceptional service. This integration of technology enhances convenience and reinforces a commitment to a welcoming, luxurious environment where innovation complements the personal touch connections.
Marcus added, “Hospitality is our family legacy, carried through generations. Our independence allows us to create curated experiences that reflect Kerry’s essence. We prioritise passionate guest service. We appreciate Killarney’s wild beauty, transforming with the seasons, revealing treasures. We want our guests to be present; giving back time is invaluable”

Denis often heads off into the countryside to have a walk often off road through fields and he is wondering what is the legal position in relation to this.
There is no general right to roam in Ireland. In general landowners’ rights are quite strong and unless the way through the fields or land is a right of way either public (open to the public) or private (restricted to certain specified users only or their invitees/licensees) there is no general permission to roam through land. Landowners can restrict access or refuse permission.
Having said all that many landowners allow people to travel through their land if they do not create a nuisance, allow dogs roam free and leave no trace. Moreover, there has been the development of many walking routes throughout the country which include the Coillte nature walks, Sli na Slainte and National Waymarked Trails. With these new walking routes, they are not developing rights of way but access by landowners has been allowed.
There are waymarked trails which are paths that are worked out with the consent and support of landowners. The routes cross their lands. They are not always public or private rights of way although they may reflect an old road or path. These waymarked trails are usually marked and signposted. They are called permissive routes. There is a walks scheme which is a national scheme funded by the Department of Rural and Community development where the landowners get payment for maintenance of the National Waymarked Ways and trails in relation to the sections that pass through their lands. The law in relation to liability on land recognises that people may go onto land
without permission and the duty to recreational users and trespassers is lower than to invited visitors. Moreover entering on land with a view to committing an offence or damaging the land is a criminal offence. If people keep coming onto land when told to stay away they may be liable to a civil trespass suit. At the end of the day it is all about showing respect for the landowner and his/her rights. Local authorities can preserve and develop public rights of way as well over public and private property.
For Denis to learn more about where the legitimate walking trails are he could look at
https://www.sportireland.ie/outdoors/walking/trails
For Sli na Slainte check out https://irishheart.ie/your-health/our-healthprogrammes/healthy-communities/slainte/
Coillte have 12 national parks and 260 recreational areas and 3000 km of walking trails all over the country to check these out look at https://www.coillte. ie/our-forests/recreation-map/?activity=walking-trails
Check out Irishtrails.ie, mountaineering.ie and https://www.waterwaysireland. org/things-to-do/blueways for waterbased walks and of course the well loved parkrun.ie
All these walking routes may help avoid Denis running into trouble with landowners who do not want to allow access for the recreational user.
Law Quip: “Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.” anon

Preparations are well underway for Tralee’s 2025 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, set to be a spectacular celebration of community, creativity, and sustainability. Taking place at 12 PM on March 17th, the event is organized by Kerry County Council, Tralee Chamber, and The Rose Hotel.

and the power of education and creativity to shape a better future. Spectators can expect stunning floats, costumes, and performances inspired by marine life and sustainability, reinforcing the importance of protecting our oceans and ecosystems.
Mayor of Tralee, Mikey Sheehy, expressed his excitement: “This parade is a cherished tradition, bringing our community together to celebrate our identity and shared values. This year’s theme reminds us of our duty to protect the environment while also applauding our young innovators.”
Colette O’Connor, CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, added: “St. Patrick’s Day in Tralee is more than just a parade – it’s a celebration of our past, present, and future.
‘Waves of Change’ calls on all of us to embrace transformation through sustainability, education, and creativity.”
The Rose Hotel’s owners, Dick &
Eibhlin Henggeler, also expressed their pride in sponsoring the event, emphasizing its importance in uniting the Tralee community. Join the Celebration!

Noel Clifford Snr started specialising in growing potatoes on his family farm in the year 2000. The rich and fertile soil of North Kerry resulted in great tasting potatoes and as a result Ardfert Potatoes are now recognized as a food of top quality. Noels’ sons Noel and Adrian now run the farm together and are as passionate about producing superb potatoes as their father was before them . They have worked hard in the decades since to sustain the level of quality associated with their produce. They have been certified with Bord bia for the last 10 years, and while this takes a lot of hard work and commitment, it is worth it, as it guarantees top quality which is always the priority for their
customers. The Clifford brothers’ mission is to get the produce from farm to shop floor within hours - always ensuring the freshest product. They supply a local product to local businesses and supermarkets throughout Kerry and Munster. While potatoes are their main crop, they also grow a wide variety of vegetables , all chosen because of their ability to grow well in the soil of North Kerry. These include cabbage , broccoli, carrots, turnips and sprouts - traditional irish vegetables which are all naturally healthy and delicious. So the next time you are trying to decide what to have for dinner why not consider including some Ardfert Potatoes produce, it’s no wonder

Ingredients
• 800g floury potatoes, such as Desiree or Maris Piper, cut into thick chips
• Low-calorie cooking spray
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 125g plain quark
• ½ small pack fresh parsley, roughly chopped
• 4 large skinless and boneless chicken breasts
• 1 medium egg, beaten
• 2 slices wholemeal bread from a small 400g loaf, whizzed into breadcrumbs
• Steamed carrots, broccoli and green beans, to serve
Method
Preheat your oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas 6. Cook the chips in a pan of boiling water for 4-5 minutes, then drain well. Spread them out on a large non-stick baking tray in a single layer and spray with low-calorie cooking spray. Season lightly and set aside.
Put a small non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and fry the onion and garlic with a splash of water for about 3 minutes, or until they begin to so en. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly.
Put the quark, onion, garlic and parsley in your blender. Season lightly and blend for about 1 minute or until nearly smooth. Slice a pocket into the top of each chicken breast, making sure not to cut all the way though. Spoon a quarter of the quark mixture into each piece of chicken and press the edges closed to seal as much as possible.
Brush a chicken breast with egg, then sprinkle a quarter of the breadcrumbs over the top. Repeat with the remaining chicken breasts. Put them on a non-stick baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake the chips on the top shelf, with the chicken underneath, for 25-30 minutes, turning the chips halfway, or until both are golden and the chicken is cooked through. Divide everything between 4 plates, grind over some black pepper and serve with the steamed veg.
