Kerry FC Triumphs in Historic Victory Against Longford Town
Kerry FC celebrated a landmark moment at Mounthawk Park as they secured their first League of Ireland home victory against Longford Town. In their fiftieth competitive game, midfielder Sean McGrath marked his fiftieth appearance by playing a pivotal role in Kerry’s 3-0 win. The match started with Longford Town dominating possession, but Kerry gradually gained control, with Daniel Okwute and Kennedy
Amechi creating early chances. Thirty minutes in, McGrath broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot, igniting the home crowd. Kerry continued to press forward, extending their lead just before halftime through Ryan Kelliher’s clinical finish. Despite further opportunities for Kerry, including a near-miss from Amechi, the score remained 2-0 at halftime. The second half saw Kerry maintain
their dominance, with Okwute and Amechi threatening Longford’s defense. Amechi eventually found the net, sealing Kerry’s victory with a superb outside-of-the-boot shot. As the final whistle blew, Kerry FC celebrated a historic win, extending their unbeaten run to seven games. McGrath’s exceptional performance earned him the man-of-the-match accolade, while the team’s solid defense ensured goalkeeper Antonio
Tuta had a quiet night. The victory marks a significant milestone for Kerry FC, who now turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against Treaty United at The Markets Field. With momentum on their side, Kerry FC aims to continue their impressive form and build on this historic triumph.

My Slimming World Journey: Marita-Ann’s Transformation
“On June 21st, 2023, I embarked on my Slimming World journey, facing serious obesity and health issues that threatened my life and happiness. After weeks of hesitation, I mustered the courage to attend a meeting one Wednesday evening, meeting Sharon, who became my pillar of support.
With the guidance of Slimming World and the encouragement of newfound friends, I embraced the program wholeheartedly. In 41 weeks, I shed over 5 stone, with more progress to go. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve realized this journey is for me, improving both my selfimage and health.
Getting accustomed to my changing reflection and slipping into smallersized clothes has been empowering. Previously, I hid in larger garments, struggling with daily tasks due to my health. But now, with improved mobility and vitality, I relish in the newfound freedom of movement. My journey isn’t just about physical transformation; it’s a journey of selfcare and self-discovery. Learning to prioritize myself amidst the demands of life has been eye-opening. With the unwavering support of Sharon and my group, I’ve embraced the importance of self-compassion and resilience.
As I continue towards my target weight, I acknowledge the challenges ahead. But armed with newfound confidence and healthier habits, I approach the future with optimism. My journey is a testament to the power of support, self-care, and determination, proving that with the right mindset, anything is achievable.”

€2.7M for Digital Learning & School Maintenance
Minister for Education and Kerry T.D, Norma Foley, has announced €2.7 million in funding to support digital learning and minor building works in Kerry schools. This funding is part of a broader allocation of €50 million for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) grants and €29 million for minor works funding to primary and special schools nationwide.
The ICT funding aims to enable schools to integrate digital technologies into teaching, learning, and assessment, while the minor works funding can be utilized for maintenance and small-scale improvements to school infrastructure.
Under the Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027, primary schools will receive a basic grant of €2,000 plus additional payments per pupil, varying based on school type and student needs. Similarly, post-primary schools will receive a basic grant along with per-student payments.
This funding builds upon previous allocations under the Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020 and supports learners at risk of education disadvantage through closing the digital divide.
Minister Foley emphasized the importance of appropriate ICT infrastructure and committed to continued funding support for the Digital Strategy’s implementation. Additionally, she announced further research into the impact of digital technologies on student learning and wellbeing to inform policy and resource allocation.
Details regarding the criteria for the ICT Infrastructure Grant Scheme will be published soon. Meanwhile, arrangements are underway for the payment of €29 million in Minor Works grants to primary and special schools, supporting their operation for the forthcoming school year.
Minister Foley highlighted the flexibility of the minor works grant,
allowing schools to address local maintenance needs. She stressed the importance of maintenance in promoting health and safety and providing conducive learning environments.
The Department’s Planning and Building Unit is finalizing updated guidance for schools on maintenance practices, expected to be published in Q2 2024 in an easily accessible online format.

A MILLIONAIRE WANTS HIS DAUGHTER TO MARRY...
So he decideds to host a competition for a small town nearby. “To any man who can swim across this Piranha infested pool of water unharmed, may have my daughter’s hand in marriage.” 20 men line up next to the pool and stand there to scared to move. Suddenly a man jumps into the water and is swimming with all his might. Finally he comes out of the water on the other side unharmed. “That was incredible,” said the millionaire,”I am a man of my word, so you may marry my daughter.” The man turns to him and says,”Look I don’t give a damn about your daughter, I just want to know the name of the bugger who pushed me in.”
I TOLD MY FRIEND THAT “LAST NIGHT THERE WAS A REAR-END COLLISION IN MY CAR PARK
After that, the drunk guy that hit the car gave me 800 euro and drove away”. My friend asked me “Is that enough to fix it?”
I said “I don’t care, it wasn’t my car.”-

LAWYERS SHOULD NEVER ASK A GEORGIA GRANDMA A QUESTION IF THEY AREN’T PREPARED FOR THE ANSWER...
In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know me?’ She responded, ‘Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I’ve known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you’ll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.’
The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?’
She again replied, ‘Why yes, I do. I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He’s lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.’ The defense attorney nearly died.
The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, ‘If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I’ll send you both to the electric chair.
MY BOSS YELLED AT ME THE OTHER DAY, “YOU’VE GOT TO BE THE WORST TRAIN DRIVER IN HISTORY. HOW MANY TRAINS DID YOU DERAIL LAST

Kia Ireland launch 48-hour EV test drive campaign
Kia Ireland have this week launched a 48-hour electric vehicle test drive campaign which is designed to encourage consumers to get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle and experience EV driving for themselves. With an increased spotlight on electric vehicles in recent months, there has been much discussion in the public domain regarding the practicality of electric vehicles and their related capabilities. This campaign from Kia is designed to answer any questions that consumers may have in relation to electric vehicles by offering an extended test drive period where driving range, charging infrastructure and cost savings can all be examined in more detail.
Cathal Kealey, Head of Marketing & PR at Kia Ireland commented ‘There are EV sceptics out there, many of which have never actually driven an electric vehicle. Electric vehicles have been embraced by early adopters
but like any new technology, it takes time to convince the majority of customers. Reluctance is understandable but education and myth busting are key in this process. The more time that consumers have in these cars, the more confidence they will gain in the technology. We believe this campaign can benefit anyone looking to change their car this year.’
The application process is simple, those interested can log onto Kia.
com and register their interest. The consumer will then be contacted directly by Kia and subject to availability and driver eligibility criteria, the booking will be confirmed at their local Kia dealership. Kia have confirmed that this campaign will run until June 30th, as too will their Q2 offers which include 0% finance and a free home charger on all New and Used Niro EV and EV6 models. The recently crowned 2024 World Car
of the Year, the EV9, is available with 1.9% finance, a free home charger and a launch package which includes a 3-year service plan, a 2-year Kia charge Ionity plus package for discounted public charging, a €500 Energia home energy credit and a €500 Kia accessory voucher.
Full details and terms are available at kia.com or contact your local Kia Dealer McElligott’s Tralee Ltd.
