Minister Foley confirms inclusion of Fixed Track Hoists in Housing Adaptation Grants
Minister for Education and Kerry
T.D, Norma Foley, has received confirmation that fixed track hoists will be included in the Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with a Disability Schemes.
These schemes will now be used to cover the cost of installing a fixed track hoist. Funding of over €83 million is being made available by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for these grants in 2023.
Commenting Minister Foley said:
“The signing of regulations which secures the provision of funding for fixed track hoists is an important and positive development for many individuals and their carers. I am conscious the issue of fixed track hoists has been both challenging and stressful for many families across the country including County Kerry. I welcome the personal engagement of Minister Darragh O’Brien and commend the signing of regulations and availability of funding which will greatly enhance quality of life for many people.”

Pizza-topped chicken
A delicious
Italian-inspired dinner idea, Slimming World pizza-topped chicken combines a succulent chicken breast with the taste of cheesy pizza
Ingredients
½ small red onion, finely chopped
½ red pepper, deseeded and chopped
1 small garlic clove, crushed
Low-calorie cooking spray
2 on-the-vine tomatoes, skinned and chopped
1 tbsp canned chopped tomatoes
1 tsp tomato purée
1 tsp dried oregano
1 skinless and boneless chicken breast
40g reduced-fat Cheddar, grated
1 cherry tomato, halved
1 tsp finely chopped fresh basil
Method
Put the onion, pepper and garlic in a small non-stick saucepan sprayed with low-calorie cooking spray and cook for a few minutes until so ened. Stir in the fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes, tomato purée and oregano and simmer for 5 minutes. Set aside. Preheat your oven to 220°C/fan 200°C/gas 7.
Cut the chicken breast in half horizontally, being careful not to cut it all the way through. Fold it open to create a butterfly shape. Spray a non-stick frying pan with low-calorie cooking spray over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned on both sides. Put the chicken on a non-stick baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until cooked.
Remove the chicken from the oven and spread the tomato mixture on top. Sprinkle over the cheese and put the cherry tomato on top. Cook for a further 5 mins, until the cheese melts. Sprinkle with the basil and serve hot, with Slimming World chips and a huge crispy salad.

Defeat at the death for Kerry FC as Harps take 3 points home to Donegal
Kerry FC faced Finn Harps in a League of Ireland match after a successful fundraiser for Comfort for Chemo and in memory of John Doyle. The previous encounters between the two teams ended in draws, so both sides were eager to secure a victory. In their last meeting, the match ended 0-0 in Donegal. The first half was tight, with both teams struggling to create clearcut chances due to solid defensive systems. Finn Harps had the best chance with a free-kick that was well saved by Kerry’s goalkeeper. As the half progressed, Harps started to control the play and earned several set pieces.
The second half began at a faster
pace, and Kerry FC had their first significant opportunity, but the shot was saved by Harps’ debutant keeper. However, Ryan Flood scored for Harps from inside the box, breaking the deadlock. Harps came close to doubling their lead, but Kerry’s Ethan Kos made a crucial block. Kerry tried to mount a comeback, and with just four minutes left, Sam Aladesanusi scored from a corner to level the game. However, it was heartbreak for Kerry as Harps’ substitute Billy Banda scored a late winner with a header. Kerry’s goalkeeper Lee Axworthy was sent off after the final whistle following an altercation.

Kayaking taster sessions for women as part of HER Outdoors Week!
HER Outdoors week returns this August, celebrating our waterways with kayaking taster sessions for adventurous women. Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership aims to inspire more females to embrace the outdoors and stay active.
Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership has teamed up with Listowel Kayak Club and Kerry Canoe Club to offer beginner kayaking taster sessions. These sessions are suitable for women with or without prior water experience and aim to introduce them to kayaking. The events will be held on August 19th in Listowel and August 20th in Killorglin, with three time
slots available on both days (10:00, 12:15, and 14:30). All necessary equipment will be provided, and the cost is €10 per person (plus booking fee). Participants must be over 18 years old. Limited spaces are available, so early registration is encouraged.
Maeve Ryan from Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership said, “These taster sessions are a wonderful opportunity for women to try a new activity, meet new people, and stay active in nature on the water. It’s a chance to step out of your comfort zone and potentially join a local kayaking club afterward.” For further details, visit Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership’s
social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can also reach out to Maeve at

BIG FARM
A Texan rancher comes to Ireland and meets a Kerry farmer. The Texan says, “Takes me a whole goddam day to drive from one side of my ranch to the other.”
The Kerry farmer says, “Ah sure, I know, sir. We have tractors like that over here too.”
JOB DONE
A Spanish singer chatting on television used the word ‘manana’. When asked what that meant, he said it means “maybe the job will be done to-morrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that, next week, next month or next year. Who cares?” An Irishman in the conversation, Shay Brennan, was then asked if there’s an Irish equivalent. “No. In Ireland we don’t have a word to describe that level of urgency”
WHERE IS MULLIGAN?
Two Irishmen met and one said to the other, “Have ye seen Mulligan lately, Pat?”
Pat said, “Well, I have and I haven’t.”
His friend asked, “well what d’ye mean by that?”
Pat said, “It’s like this, y’see…I saw a chap who I thought was Mulligan, and he saw a chap that he thought was me. And when we got up to one another…it was neither of us.”
OUR HOUSE
Murphy was selling his house, and put the matter in an agent’s hands. The agent wrote up a sales blurb for the house that made wonderful reading.
After Murphy read it, he turned to the agent and asked, “Have I got all you say there?”
The agent said, Certainly ye have…Why do you ask?
Murphy replied, cancel the sale, the place sounds grand to me

FRIDAY NIGHT
Late one Friday in Dublin, a policeman spotted a man
driving very erratically. He pulled the man over and asked him if he had been drinking that evening.
‘’Aye, so I have. ‘Tis Friday, you know, so me and the lads stopped by the pub where I had six or seven pints. And then there was something called ‘Happy Hour’ and they served these mar-gar-itos which are quite good. I had four or five o’ those. Then I had to drive me friend Mike home and o’ course I had to go in for a couple of Guinness -- couldn’t be rude, ye know. Then I stopped on the way home to get another bottle for later...’’ And the man fumbled around in his coat until he located his bottle of whiskey, which he held up for inspection. The officer sighed, and said, ‘’Sir, I’m afraid I’ll need you to step out of the car and take a breathalyzer test.’’
‘’Why? Don’t ye believe me?’’
A WIFE ASKS HER HUSBAND IF SHE WERE TO DIE, WOULD HE REMARRY?...
and her husband says “yes I would remarry I like living a married life and spending time with someone else. The wife gets uncomfortable and proceeds to ask “ well would you let her live in our house?” And the husband says “yes I’d let her live here there’s nothing wrong with this house.” That worried the wife more, so then she asks “well would you let her sleep in our bed?” And the husband says “yes I like my bed and I don’t want to get rid of it I’d let her sleep in it.” This only makes the wife more worried so she feels compelled to say “well at least promise me you will never let her use my golf clubs.” The husband say “don’t worry she will never use your clubs, she’s left handed.”
