Na Gaeil are 2023 Rose Cup Winners!

At the GAA Rose Cup sponsored by the Bons Secours on Sat 19th at Healy Park and Na Gaeil GAA grounds, 16 teams competed to win Rose Cup and Rose Shield. There were teams from all around Kerry and further afield too. In Rose Cup final we had John Mitchels V Na Gaeil with Na Gaeil coming through in a very stuff game against John Mitchels. In the Rose Shield Final, Legion faced Austin Stacks with the Legion team winning out in the end.

The competition sponsors, the Bons Secours kindly sponsored all medals on the day.

Gally’s Bar and Restaurant to host Rugby World Cup BBQ for Recovery Haven Kerry.

The Boys in Green need our support as they take on South Africa in their Rugby World Cup group match on September 23rd, and to mark the occasion, Gally’s Bar & Restaurant will host a very special evening in Ena’s to raise funds for Recovery Haven Kerry.

This highly anticipated, ticket-only event will be a fantastic night for sports fans and onlookers alike, as tournament favourites, Ireland, take on the current World Cup champions, South Africa, in the showpiece Pool B clash. For just €25, guests will not only get to watch the enthralling game on multiple screens in the perfect setting of Ena’s, but will also enjoy a pre-match BBQ, pizza at half-time, some super spot prizes and live music after the final whistle.

Recovery Haven Kerry’s PR & Marketing officer, Marisa Reidy, also believes the event is going to be a sell-out, given the huge interest in the Rugby World Cup and the massive fan base the Irish team has in Tralee and Kerry.

that they are pulling out all the stops to make this a really fun night to remember,” Marisa said. “ We’d also like to say a huge thanks to our very own rugby star, Ultan Dillane, who took time out of a recent trip home to help us launch

the event.”

TLI Group Present Cheque to Breakthrough Cancer Research

TLI Group had almost 60 cyclists participate in the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle this year, cycling in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research. They had a Cheque presentation on Friday last, where they presented a cheque for €28,500 to Eoghan O’Sullivan of Breakthrough Cancer Research.

Top scorer Kelliher commits to Kerry FC until 2025

Kerry FC proudly announces Ryan Kelliher, their leading scorer, has secured a longterm contract until the end of the 2025 season. In his debut SSE Airtricity First Division season, Kelliher has impressively scored 10 goals across league and cup matches. Notably, he played a key role in both victories, contributing 4 out of 5 winning goals. With nearly 2000 minutes of play in 2023, the number 9 has become indispensable under Billy Dennehy’s guidance. In 30 games, Kelliher appeared in 29, starting 22 and making 6 substitute appearances.

This momentous occasion goes beyond Kelliher’s personal success, as he becomes Kerry FC’s first player to sign a professional contract. This holds significance for both the club and the player. Kelliher’s journey traces back to Killarney, where he developed skills with Killarney Celtic before progressing to Kerry FC’s Academy. After a stint with Killarney Celtic due to the absence of a senior Kerry team, Kelliher returned in 2023, aligning with Kerry’s inaugural League of Ireland year.

Expressing his delight, Kelliher stated, “I’m thrilled to

cement my bond with Kerry FC through a professional contract. The club’s forwardlooking vision and plans are promising. Representing my county while wearing the Kerry FC jersey is an honor I cherish. Up the kingdom!”

Manager Billy Dennehy shared his joy, noting, “I’m ecstatic about Ryan Kelliher’s commitment to the club for two years. Even during my time managing the 19s, his innate talent shone at the League of Ireland level. Despite a previous season’s lack of senior play, Kelliher’s remarkable dedication was evident. His diligence in

training and on-field efforts is commendable. Notably scoring 10 goals in his League of Ireland debut is remarkable, setting a foundation for even greater potential.”

Dennehy praised Kelliher’s attitude and work ethic, highlighting his inspiration for younger academy players. The manager anticipated further growth and success from the promising number 9, emphasizing Kelliher’s journey has only just begun.

Tom Crean Unsung Hero Cycle to hit the road on September 30th

The Kerry branch of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) is gearing up for the 6th annual Tom Crean Unsung Hero Cycle on September 30th, starting from Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre in Tralee. This charitable event aims to raise essential funds for crucial services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy for children and adults, all unsupported by direct government funding. In tribute to renowned explorer Tom Crean, whose family is involved in DSI Kerry, and to honor Emily Keohane, a cherished DSI Kerry

member who passed away in 2017, the cycle embarks from Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre’s main entrance at 9 am. Three route choices are offered: Route A (75km) takes cyclists from Tralee through Annascaul and Inch before returning; Route B (112km) includes a Dingle journey via the Conor Pass; Route C (150KM) extends around Slea Head before looping back via the Conor Pass.

At Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre, participants and supporters can enjoy a day of family fun, including light refreshments, music,

entertainment, and all cyclists will receive a medal.

Enda O’Brien of DSI Kerry and Tom Crean’s grandson expressed anticipation for the cycle, emphasizing its significance in honoring unsung heroes who support essential services. Funds raised during the event ensure DSI Kerry continues to provide vital assistance.

Senior Men’s Championship: Mitchels

Triumph Over Ballydonoghue

John Mitchels secured a hard-fought

win against Ballydonoghue.

Despite a tempestuous game, Mitchels emerged victorious.

First-half wind advantage aided Mitchels’ lead.

Second half saw Mitchels maintain positivity and quick ball movement.

Kudos to squad, Manager Brian, and mentors for the positive outcome.

U14 Girls’ Green and Gold, U13 Boys’ Green and Gold teams honored for County Div. 1 victories.

Senior ladies faced a strong Aunascaul/ Castlegrory team.

Challenging conditions impacted game, with injuries hampering efforts.

Aunascaul/Castlegrory emerged winners, but Mitchels’ determination evident.

Under 6s, 7s, 8 & 10 Girls, 11s, 12 Girls, 14 Girls, and 16 Girls training sessions in full swing.

Enthusiastic participation and skill development evident across age groups.

U15 Boys prepare for County Championship, U13 Boys for Central league semifinal.

Annual John Mitchels Gold Classic a success, raising funds for the club. Free full body strength and conditioning classes available for members. Led by George Bastible, these classes offer valuable fitness training. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 am, open to those aged 18 and over.

U9: Intensive training, skill drills, and competitive play.

U10 Girls: Progressing skills with dedication, upcoming match against Ballymac.

U11: Central Region League round concluded against Castleisland Desmonds.

U12 Girls: Ailbhe Hennesey’s commendable performance at national community games track and field finals.

U13: Training resumed, upcoming back game against Ballymac.

U14 Girls: Training continued, Niamh Murphy and Eve O’Sullivan excel.

U15’s: Preparing for final central league game.

St Brendan’s U15’s: Shield final challenge against West Kerry.

Seniors on the Field

Seniors: Competed in Kerry Petroleum Junior Premier Championship Round 3. Battled Dromid Pearses, maintaining Junior Premier Status for 2024.

Final score: St Pats 0-15, Dromid Pearses 5-11.

Congrats to students on leaving cert results, and good luck to U15’s management team in the Shield Final.

KERRY FC ACADEMY UPDATE

U17 Mark Farren Cup Quarter Final

Kerry FC 1 - 2 Shamrock Rovers. Thrilling match with late goals. Visitors clinched victory with an 88th minute goal. Rovers advance in a nail-biting contest.

Under 14 League Clash

Carlow Kilkenny 2 - 2 Kerry FC. Competitive draw displaying Kerry’s prowess.

Under 19 League Battle Kerry 2 - 3 Wexford FC. High-scoring match with narrow margin.

Under 15 League Challenge

Wexford FC 7 - 2 Kerry FC. Despite effort, Wexford emerged victorious.

Kerry FC U19 team hosts Cork City on Sunday at 2pm in Mounthawk Park. Kerry FC U15 side faces Carlow Kilkenny away at 2pm.

TRALEE PARNELLS WEEKLY ROUNDUP - AUGUST 23, 2023

U9s participated in County Go Games blitz at Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence. Impressive skills showcased, thanks to coaches and families’ support. U14s demonstrated excellent performance against St Brendans in North Kerry Championship. Secured victory with strong display, focusing on upcoming Causeway game. U18s clinched victory with impressive 5-14 to 0-12 score against Ballyheigue. Strong first half performance laid foundation for North Kerry Championship win.

Next match against Lixnaw.

U14s: Kerry U14s secured Sonny Walsh shield final win against Waterford. Several Parnells players contributed to victory.

U15s: Kerry U15 hurlers claimed John Doyle Cup victory against Wexford and Clare.

Parnells well represented in team and management.

U16s: Kerry U16s competed in final tournament with tight matches against Laois and Meath.

Parnells’ presence through players Cian Harris and William Somers.

Senior hurlers battled in North Kerry Intermediate Championship quarter final.

A closely fought match, ending in extra time.

Final score: Tralee Parnells 1-22 St Brendan’s 3-17.
