LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Eleanor a widow has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and it is expected within a few years that she may not be able to look after herself or her own affairs. Her family is concerned that they would be able to do their best to look after her, as she grows older, dependent and more vulnerable. What can her four children do? Eleanor presently has mental capacity so it is an ideal opportunity for her to finalise an enduring power of attorney. This is a document that is drawn up appointing attorneys to manage her affairs should she ever mentally incapable. It sets out who is in charge and what they are to do-control over finances and personal care/welfare. It gives power to attorneys to decide: • where and with whom the Donor should live • whom the Donor should see and not see • what training and rehabilitation the Donor should get • donor’s diet and dress • inspection of Donor’s personal papers • housing, social welfare and other benefits • Healthcare outside of life ending decisions. The EPA needs to be signed by Eleanor, her Doctor, a solicitor and her attorneys and notice parties are notified it exists. The document lies in a drawer and has no effect until Eleanor becomes mentally incapable and then it will be registered with the Decision Support Service and the attorneys will do annual reports showing they are looking after Eleanor properly. The big advantage of the EPA is that Eleanor sets out her choices, will and preferences in advance before she becomes no longer able to do so. These documents are usually done up with a solicitor and can save a lot of heartache and bother later on. Next of kin are able to act on behalf of Eleanor’s benefit with a status conferred by the EPA, which they would not otherwise have had. Without some legal authority next of kin have no legal status to act on Eleanor’s behalf. Law fun: Spotted on a billboard ad for the law office of Larry L. Archie: “Just because you did it doesn’t mean you’re guilty.” Miriam McGillycuddy - Solicitors and Mediators, Derryana, Ballyard, Tralee M:066 7181 596 M: 087 2604753 mirs@gofree.indigo.ie

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... HEALTH & WELLBEING EVENING HOSTED BY LEE STRAND & THE NATIONAL DAIRY COUNCIL The Brandon Hotel Tralee, Thursday 6th April Lee Strand and the National Dairy Council are delighted to announce an exciting evening centred on Health and Wellbeing on Thursday 6th April in the Brandon Hotel, Tralee. The event will host high profile guest speakers including: Derval O’Rourke, Irish Olympic Athlete and cookbook author; Aidan O’Mahony, Kerry Football legend and Dancing with the Stars Winner; Paula Mee, renowned Dietitian on TV and radio and Joe O’Connor, Fitness & Performance Expert, RTE’s Ireland’s Fittest Family. MC for the event will be Deirdre Walsh, a journalist with Radio Kerry for the past ten years, who currently presents their afternoon magazine programme ‘TalkAbout’. Deirdre herself has a huge interest in health and fitness, and has regular features on nutrition and wellbeing on her show. Derval O’Rourke, Irish Olympian athlete and now a fit foodie will be demonstrating some delicious dairy recipe ideas to feed an active family at the event. In 2014, Derval decided to hang up her spikes for good after 12 amazing years competing at the highest level in world athletics. Derval also spent two years working in professional rugby for IRUPA with Munster rugby. Derval also has a very successful food and fitness business with the launch of
her second cookbook “The Fit Foodie”. Derval is now full time building her Fit Foodie business and works alongside great partners who share the same values. Aidan O’Mahony will speak about his own journey to Health & Wellbeing. Aidan has had an impressive career on the football pitch for the Kerry senior panel since 2003 who has bagged five All-Ireland titles, ten Munster Championships, three National league titles as well as three All Stars. A member of An Garda Síochána working in community policing in Tralee, Aidan is also currently studying for a degree in strength and conditioning. Aidan has entertained the nation on Sunday night for the past twelve weeks in Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars and beat off stiff competition on the dancefloor to win the competition. Renowned Dietitian Paula Mee, who has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows and has a clinic in Blackrock, Dublin. Paula will look at the life stages, exploring how – from the young to old – we can make good food choices that can affect our health and wellbeing in a positive way. Paula says “Imagine your health as a jigsaw, with lots of small pieces of the puzzle that all come together to create a picture of good health. No single factor- such as activity or food - determines overall health, but these are essential
pieces of the overall picture. The great news is that you don’t have to completely overhaul your diet to make an impact on health. Small changes, made repeatedly, can have a big and positive effect.” Joe O’Connor has featured as the Fitness & Performance Expert for each of the four seasons on RTE’s Ireland’s Fittest Family. He is the founder of Nisus Fitness and works with elite teams and athletes, as well as those seeking improved performance and productivity in the corporate sector through the use of online training and coaching. Joe is currently working with Athletics Ireland, Horse Sport Ireland and Limerick GAA. Joe will discuss the importance of Fitness for Heath, he says “One size does not fit all when it comes to fitness and training. Adopting a fitness regime that somebody else enjoys will not necessarily be one that you will enjoy.” He suggests identifying your limiting factors, setting goals and developing a plan to achieve those goals. Doors open at 7.30pm and the event will commence at 8.00pm sharp. Tickets for the event are €10 and are available from Lee Strand’s office in Ballymullen, Tralee Tel: 066 712 1084 or online at www.leestrand.ie. All ticket and raffle proceeds will go to the Donal Walsh Livelife Foundation.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: CAO LATE APPLICATION Question The closing date for applying to college was 1 February. Can I still apply? Answer You apply for almost all full-time undergraduate courses through the Central Applications Office (CAO). This includes, for example, university and institute of technology undergraduate courses such as Higher Certificates at Level 6 and degrees at Levels 7 and 8. The closing date for 2017 CAO applications was 1 February 2017. However, late applications are allowed up to 5.15pm on 1 May 2017. There is a fee to apply for courses through the CAO and late applications are subject to an increased fee. Late online applications cost €50. You may change the courses you picked or the order of courses on your application. This Change of Mind facility is free. It opens on 5 May and closes on 1 July 2017 at 5:15pm. If you are a mature applicant who wants to be assessed on mature grounds, or if you want to be considered for the HEAR and/or DARE schemes, most colleges will require you to have applied to the CAO by 1 February 2017. There are also some restricted courses which cannot be applied for after 1 February 2017. The CAO provides a handbook that lists all the courses on offer and gives information on how to apply. Decisions on offers of places are normally made in August and September, after the results of the Leaving Certificate have come out. A detailed schedule of the offer rounds is in the CAO handbook. It is important to note that there is no central applications body for Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses. Students must apply directly to the individual colleges. You should check the closing date for PLC courses with the college where the PLC course is taking place.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... PRE EASTER 8O’S PARTY IN THE BROGUE NEXT WEEKEND (SAT 8TH) WITH LOCAL FAVOURITE DJ CHRIS SHORTT
After a great response to the previous “ABSOLUTE 8O’S NIGHTS in the Brogue ,Next Sat week night April 8th , its going to happen again !! Yes , the Brogue Inn is playing host to ANOTHER late night “ Absolute Eighties” session with well -known local DJ Chris Shortt .”We wanted to try something a little bit different , as we are now having entertainment up to 7 nights a week in the Brogue “ says Fiona Kirby .So Chris came up with the idea of an “Absolute 80’s Night “ which we thought was brilliant . According to Chris , “these nights really rock .....People who I haven’t seen in years come out purely to hear the great songs of the 80’s .... It really brings the great memories flooding back “ says Chris .... I grew up with the music of the 80’s , a lot of the crowd who come out on Sat night to the Brogue are very familiar with this music and even a lot of the younger generation in their 20s and 30’s are really into that decade of Music ....we are talking Bob Marley , The Police , Deacon Blue , Simple Minds , Dire Straits , Abba , the list goes on ...Remember MT USA with Fab Vinny ...we are talking Michael Jackson , Van Halen, The Pointer Sisters , Starship , The Eagles , Fleetwood mac . Chris really knows his music , he has been the Rose Ball DJ for many many years now “ says Kevin Cotter .from the Brogue ..”.it only makes sense to have someone who knows the 80’s music back to front entertaining our customers rather than having someone working from a Playlist !” So remember next Sat April 8th is “ABSOLUTE 80’S NIGHT with Chris Shortt in the Brogue

WHICH IS BEST? BOTOX OR DERMAL FILLERS? Roisin from Áilleacht Aesthetics, Fairies Cross Medical Centre , answers some of their clients most popular questions about Botox and Fillers
What is Botox and how does it work? Botulinum toxin, is a natural, purified protein that is used to temporarily relax facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to treat medical conditions such as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraine. Its also known as ‘Anti-Wrinkle’ Injections. Who would this treatment suit? This treatment can be used on a wide range of patients, and is primarily used for skin rejuvenation and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. What results does the treatment aim to provide? The treatment is used to soften the lines caused by facial expression and can be adjusted to ensure natural results. The duration of results is variable in between individuals but ranges from 3 to 6 months. What are Fillers and how do they work? As we age, the natural collagen and elastin in the skin lessens, as cells lose their ability to produce more of their youthful component. The skin becomes dryer, thinner and less able to fix itself. When
we are born, we have plentiful amounts of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in our body, but as we get older this store of HA diminishes, leaving the skin less well supported, and so lines and wrinkles develop. By lifting and smoothing targeted folds and wrinkles by adding subtle volume, dermal fillers can make a difference to a person’s appearance, giving them a fresher look. Who would this treatment suit? Facial fillers can be used on a wide range of patients, and are primarily used for skin rejuvenation and the reduction of lines and wrinkles. Other suitable candidates are those seeking to add structure and volume to the face. We see a lot of patients who have lost volume in their face due to living a very active, high impact lifestyle (such as runners). Fillers help to restore the volume loss that naturally

begins to occur when we reach our late thirties, and in turn gives a fresher, brighter appearance. Who should avoid these treatments? Treatments are not advisable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. People with specific medical conditions or on particular medications may not be suitable candidates for these treatments. It is best to seek advice from your own GP or speak to us at the clinic regarding suitability. How soon before a big event should you have treatments done? Ideally , at least 2 months before the big event is a good time to come and see us. If you are super organised- up to 6 months before especially if you are getting married is a good time to have an initial consultation and consider
treatments available. Completing careful research prior to having any cosmetic treatment is vital. You need knowledge about the treatments, an understanding of the risks and confidence that your chosen professional is going to provide the best treatment. Hello my beautiful friends. I hope you’re all having a fabulous week! This week I will be talking about How To Do Brows. Eyebrows took over the world in 2016, and it looks like the trend isn’t going anywhere! They’re one of the most lusted after facial features and top of every makeup brands newest product list. I am obsessed with eyebrows, they can change up your entire look and they frame your face. There are many different products and tools I use to maintain my brows the way I like them. • BROW TREATMENT: To ‘treat’ my eyebrows I go to Jurga in House Of Glamour Tralee – she actually works and lives in Cork but she comes to Tralee on certain dates. She is my absolute BROW QUEEN. She knows exactly how to make your brows look amazing! If I can’t make to Jurga, I just get my brows threaded and tinted. • BROW PRODUCTS: When I’m doing my makeup I ALWAYS fill in and shape my brows, always. I look back at pictures of when I didn’t and I cringe, it looks terrible, well on me anyway. I don’t use pencil when filling in my brows as I find I can achieve a more natural not so ‘drawn on’ look if I use either a shadow based or cream based product. THE ESSENTIALS: For me, there are three must have products when it comes to my brows. 1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade: This is a cream based eyebrow product that I fill in my brows using an angled brush. I got this in Sephora over in America but don’t worry, it’s available online at BeautyBay.com along with all the
other products from this brand, so if you’re more into a pencilled brow they have the ‘brow wiz’ for that. This brand is amazing for all things brow so be sure to check it out! I’ve literally been using this and only this to fill in my brows for about 4 years now.
TOP TIP: You want the inner section of your brow to be the most lightly filled in and then you can fill in more towards the end of your brow. Use short hair like strokes with an angled brush to create brows that look like they are thicker. 2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Angled Brush: I use an angled brush to apply my brow cream as I find it really gets that defined brow look. Obviously you can use any branded angled brush, but I really like the size and quality of the Anastasia Beverly Hills one. Blank Canvas do a fab double ended one with a brow brush on the other end. 3. NYX Wonder Pencil: I use this pencil in the shade light just under my brows to clean them up a little and really define them as well as highlight my brow bone. The pencil is a really creamy texture so it’s easily blended out.
So everyone, that’s what I do to get ‘The Perfect Brows’. Head over to my Facebook page ‘Bexblah’ to stay updated! And leave any suggestions you may have there. I’m also on Instagram @bexblah and twitter @bexblah. Stay Gorge,

WEIGHT TRAINING 101 Hello my strong friends, this week I’m talking all about weight training and how it can help you achieve your goals! In general, people will practice cardio(running, cycling etc) and forget about weight training when it comes to burning fat. And there are still many trainers who will say that aerobic exercises burn off fat and weightlifting is only used to build muscle bulk. This statement is not correct because the more muscle mass one acquires through weight-bearing exercises, the more they will burn fat calories — even at rest. Cardio combined with weight training will result in effective fat loss. Cardio exercises will raise muscle metabolism during the activity and for a short time after the exercise session. Weight training, on the other hand, will raise your muscle metabolism during the exercise session — and for a long time after the exercise session. Some high intensity trainers have even seen their

metabolism rise for several days following their training session. Whether your goal is to tone or build muscles, it is important to know what happens during the muscle training process. When lifting weights, muscle tissues are torn apart (at the microscopic level) from the stress, and it’s in the recovery period that your muscles become stronger and, therefore, able to support the extra stress. Usually the recovery period required is 24 to 48 hours after a weight training session so it’s good to train different muscle groups on different days. My current training split looks a bit like this… DAY 1 – LEGS DAY 2 – UPPER BODY DAY 3 – LEGS DAY 4 – BACK & CHEST DAY 5 – SHOULDERS & ARMS And then I have two rest days a week also. It is so so SO important to fuel your body efficiently when weight training. You

need to give yourself the correct food especially carbs and protein, so that your muscles recover and you have energy to fuel your sessions. If you are in any way confused about nutrition and what you should be eating, get in touch with a good well informed personal trainer. I highly recommend Recalibrated Bodies, they strive to inform all their clients on why they’re eating what they’re eating and don’t cut out ‘bad’ foods. If you go to a personal trainer who tells you to basically eat plain chicken, broccoli and rice or something to that effect… RUN!!! A good PT won’t cut out food groups or drastically cut carbs, trust me. Anybody who debates the fact that weight-bearing exercises don’t help people lose weight and fat should lift weights for one hour and see their heart rate go through the roof. I definitely sweat a lot more when I do a good weights session.
a result. As muscle mass will keep your metabolism high, try to avoid quick weight loss through miracle diets or starvation. This weight loss will be regained just as quickly. Instead go for a gradual fat loss routine by combining weight training and cardio, and allow muscle mass to build up and increase your metabolism. Results may take a little longer, but they will last for a longer period of time. If you do a quick fix weightloss ‘diet’ then you won’t get the results you actually want. Just don’t focus on how long it will take to get to your goals, just focus on yourself day by day and the changes will come, I promise.
An important factor to consider when trying to lose weight is that lots of muscle mass can be lost as

METHOD 1. 2. 3.
4. 5. 6.
Pat pork chop dry with paper towels. Mix salt, pepper, and sugar in a small bowl; sprinkle all over pork. Place pork on a wire rack set inside a rimmed baking sheet so it’s resting on its side with bone sticking upright and chill, uncovered, at least 8 hours and up to 1 day. Let pork chop sit at room temperature at least 1 hour for even roasting. Preheat oven to 160. Heat a large pan, preferably cast iron, over medium-high. Rub chop all over with oil and carefully place in pan; reserve rack and baking sheet. Cook chop, turning every minute or so, until deeply browned on both sides, 5–8 minutes. Turn on its side and sear edges and fat cap until browned, about 3 minutes total. Transfer back to rack, place in oven, and roast until a thermometer inserted into the center of chop about 1” from bone registers 64c, 25–35 minutes (use a probe thermometer if you’ve got one, or use an instant-read thermometer and check every few minutes after pork has been roasting 20 minutes). Transfer pork to a cutting board; let rest 15–20 minutes While the pork is resting, whisk egg yolk, garlic, vinegar, mustard, and honey in a medium bowl. Gradually add 1/2 cup oil, whisking until dressing is emulsified (it should be the consistency of heavy cream). Season with sea salt and pepper. Toss lettuce, frisée, celeraric, apple, Pecorino, and almonds in a large bowl; season with sea salt and pepper. Add about three-quarters of dressing and toss to coat; add more dressing to taste and season with more sea salt and pepper. Use a thin-bladed knife to cut pork chop away from rib bone, then cut between bones to separate into 2 ribs (or don’t, and greedily eat Recipes by both bones in the kitchen before serving others, because you’re the cook and you deserve it). Slice chop 1/2” thick, drizzle with oil, and sprinkle with sea salt. Serve with salad

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! DURING A HUGE STORM, A MAN’S CITY CALLS FOR AN EMERGENCY EVACUATION
As his neighbors are driving away, they offer him a seat in their minivan. He says, “No thank you. I believe in God, and God will protect me from this storm.” The flood waters start to rise and the man is standing on his balcony. A family in a fishing boat come by and offer a space on their boat. The man says, “No thank you. I believe in God, and God will protect me from this storm.” The storm starts getting even worse. His house is nearly completely engulfed in water, and the man is clinging to his chimney with rain blowing in his face. A National Guard helicopter comes by and lowes a ladder for him. He says, “No thank you. I believe in God, and God will protect me from this storm.” The man drowns shortly thereafter and goes do heaven. Once in heaven, fuming, he marches up to Saint Peter and says “I’ve been a loyal Christian all my life. I put my faith in God to save in that storm and he let me drown. How could he do something like that?” Peter looks at the man and says, “I really don’t know what you expected. God sent you a van, a boat, and a helicopter.
This rooster wakes up early Easter Sunday morning. He sticks his head out of the chicken coop, and sees all these multicolored eggs all over the barnyard. He takes a look at the eggs, takes a look at the hens, takes another look at the eggs, takes one more look at the hens, he thinks about it for a minute, then he walks across the barnyard and kicks the C**P out of the peacock.
TWO ELDERLY COUPLES WERE HAVING DINNER...
when one of the men says to the other man of the group, “Hey Stan, tell us about the college course you recently took!” Stan looks up from his dinner and says, “Oh, it was great! It was a memory class to help me to remember things better.” “Did it work?” the other guy asks.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... DATE ANNOUNCED FOR COUNTY CLEAN-UP DAY 2017 Moira Murell Chief Excu of Kerry County Council will be on the roads of Kerry with Noel O’Reilly KWD and Kerry County Council, Mayor of Tralee Cllr Terry O’Brien , Brendan Cronin , Michael O’Shea , Mike Kennelly and Cllr. John Francis Flynn , John Breen KCC , Sean Murphy KWD Killarney Volunteers are being asked to participate in the 2017 County Clean-Up Day which will take place on Saturday, 8 April. Now in its sixth year, the County Clean-Up, which takes place with the support of Kerry County Council and KWD Recycling, has proven to be a wonderful community event in which people clean up their respective areas and make their localities spick and span. The event was launched this evening (Monday) at the Ballygarry House Hotel in Tralee to coincide with seminar for Tidy Towns groups
from across the county. The aim of the annual event is to ensure that visiting tourists and locals alike can see the true beauty of the Kerry countryside without unsightly litter strewn on the sides of the roads. Last year 3,500 people volunteered their time to clean sections of road and other public places in Kerry, and collected 7,000 bags of waste
- amounting to 70 tonnes of waste. This year the County Clean-Up Day is being extended and adopted by our neighbours in west Cork. It is hoped to have as many groups, communities and individuals as possible out on the day to help create awareness and in turn help
prevent people littering. Posters will be placed in local shops in the coming days encouraging people to sign up and correspondence is being sent out to all the voluntary groups and Tidy Towns committees who have been involved over the last six years. Photo By : Domnick Walsh © Eye Focus LTD ©

TORQUING CARS! ASK HONEST JOHN (DAILY TELEGRAPH) WHAT’S THE BEST POLISH TO USE?
I have just purchased the new Alfa Romeo Giulia in the Alfa red. In your opinion, what’s the best polish to use? John , London “Do not use polish at all. Polish shines by cutting off the oxidised surface of the paint. Use wax that sits on top of the paint. I recommend Autoglym High Def wax.”
WHICH SMALL CARS HAVE THREE SEATBELTS IN THE BACKSEATS?
My sister currently has a Fiat 500 and it’s difficult to squeeze her three grandchildren into the back as there aren’t sufficient belts. She can’t find a small car that will do this. She doesn’t want an SUV. Any suggestions? Martin , Dublin “Hyundai i10 are tiny but still have three rear seatbelts.”
WHICH HYBRID ?? Hi Eddie , I’m thinking of buying but I want you to know what I don’t want. I don’t want manual transmission or diesel engine, a car that’s too low or too high because I drive my mum. My car is a 1-litre 2011 Yaris Sport petrol (97,000km). I want to buy electric, hybrid or crossover 5dr free from all noise, comfortable seats that fold flat easily, wide opening doors, good boot with spare wheel, safest with highest EuroNcap ratings, value for money and good residual value. I hope I haven’t left anything out. David , Athlone buy the Toyota C-HR 1.8 hybrid in Luna Sport trim. Being a hybrid, it is an automatic. As a compact SUV it is neither too tall nor small. It is a well-insulated, comfortable car with a good boot. It comes with a tyre repair kit and I am unsure if you can add a spare as an optional extra. Ask your dealer. Check the EuroNCap website to confirm it but my research showed that the C-HR got a 5-Star safety rating for adult occupants. If you can forego the hybrid, then buy a Peugeot 2008 1.2 petrol Active model with the Ecomatique gearbox. or Look at the new KIA Niro hybrid crossover. It is less curvy than the Toyota C-HR but it ticks a lot of your boxes Eddie Cunningham (Indo Motoring )
TOP GEAR SERIES 24: UNDER MATT LEBLANC THE PETROLHEADS ARE BACK,
It was all hands to the petrolhead pump as the BBC tried to erase memories of last year’s not-wholly successful Top Gear reboot and prove there was indeed Life After Jeremy for its flagship franchise. But could newly promoted host-in-chief Matt LeBlanc rebuild from scratch a series which, with the hyperactive Chris Evans behind the wheel, had slalomed off a cliff and burst into flames? The answer, judging from the first of seven new episodes, is a qualified “yes”. LeBlanc’s presenting remains a work in progress – he can come across intensely uncomfortable interacting with non A-listers. However, the elevation of matey muckers Rory Reid and Chris Harris to full-time sidekicks brought flashes of the Jeremy Clarkson-era spark. It wasn’t slick and it wasn’t funny – but it did feel very Top Gear. True, they haven’t quite recaptured the old “three blokes bumbling about in cars” chemistry – LeBlanc, for one thing, is far too tanned and glamorous to bumble like a natural. Nonetheless, a road trip to Kazakhstan achieved full “proper lark” status. And the car bits felt like an integral component: a crucial distinction from Jezza and chums’ deafening Grand Tour (a show that secretly wants to be a Transformers movie). Plus, without Chris Evans yelling at you constantly, it was all suddenly so watchable. It would seem official then – Top Gear is back, with a lot more miles left on the clock than anyone suspected when it spun into the hard shoulder 12 months ago. 42

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR ONLY THE PLAYER KNOWS IF TACKLE WAS DELIBERATE: It was a hard week for football with the death of Ryan McBride and then the tackle on Seamus Coleman. The whole sporting world and beyond was shocked at the death of the Derry City captain at 27 and the outpouring of grief and support from all over will hopefully have given him family some crumb of comfort in this very hard time. The sporting community will come together to support them and I see on social media that there is a major auction of sporting lots being put together with Arsenal and Sunderland amongst the clubs who have made donations of signed football and jerseys to the organisers. His death certainly cast a shadow over the build-up to the Wales game but the players had to put it behind them as they continue to be in a good position as the race to Russia continues. While both sides would probably have been happy with the point this game will always be remembered for the tackle on Seamus Coleman. Watching the game it was obvious that this was bad and sadly it turned out to be. But as he began his long road to recovery the player who made the tackle, Neil Taylor, has also to come to terms with what happened. He has had a tough week but thankfully people initial anger has abated a little. Only he knows how deliberate it was. He has come back from injury himself and certainly went in hard. It certainly was not a dirty game but Ireland did put in a few hard tackles in the first half and probably the Welsh players talked at half time at not being pushed around. But both Bale’s tackle on John O’Shea and Taylor’s on Coleman were well over the top and we see the consequences on the latter. Football is a contact sport and hard tackling is part of the game but for any young, or not so young player out there, have a think about your game and your decision making and if you feel you have a tendency to fly into the tackle be careful. Tackling and tackling hard is part of the game but there are some things more important that getting that ball that its 60/40 against you

making it. PARK LIFE: The 2016/17 Skechers National Cup season ended on a high for Kerry clubs with the St Brendan’s Park u13’s side winning the Regional final. This team had a great run to the Last 8 of the National Cup and deserved this win in the Regional Section. At Christy Leahy Park the home side were in control from early on against Limerick’s Aisling Annacotty. The Park could have gone ahead in either the 12th or 20th minutes but Cianan Cooney’s shots came back off the post and crossbar. However they did go in front in the 25th minute through Messiah Chirwa. The Park doubled their lead with 18 minutes left but credit to the visitors they did not give up and pulled one back from the spot with 5 minutes left. But it just a consolation as The Park held on for a great win in front of a big home crowd. Park Fc YouTube Channel : The club now have our very own YouTube channel where you will find highlights of recent club matches. You can find a link for our channel now on our club website where you can follow and subscribe to the channel. KERRY U17’S FIRST HOME GAME: Kerry’s u17 League of Ireland side play their first home of the season when the take on Waterford FC in Mounthawk Park at 2pm on Sunday April 2nd. Having gone down to Galway away in their opener Kerry will be looking for a better result so come along and cheer on the boys! ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE ROSE: Rallying returns to County Kerry for the first time this year with the annual Circuit of Kerry Rally, based in Tralee this Sunday. The Rose Hotel-sponsored rally is the first of four major rallies set to take place in The Kingdom this year and organiser, Kerry Motor Club, has set a high standard in terms of entry and stage location. Although lacking in overall numbers, the entry list has strength in depth with several high-quality World Rally cars, state-of-the-art R5 machines and high-powered modified cars on the list and

the for round two of the locally sponsored Top Part West Coast Rally Championship. Leading the field away on Sunday morning from the Rose Hotel will be former winner Derek McGarrity who will have Beaufort’s Diarmid Falvey on pacenote duty in their Ford Fiesta World Rally Car. Falvey is aiming to become the fourth Kerry navigator to win the rally, following in the footsteps of John Crone, Paul Nagle and Fionn Foley, in the 40 years of the event. Maintaining the strong local interest, Kevin Barrett is also on the entry in his Subaru Impreza. Barrett is a long -time resident of Maynooth , County Kildare but his family have strong ties to Ballyduff in the north of the county and both he and his Limerick-based co-driver Sean Mullaly are members of Kerry Motor Club and will be hoping to win the James O’Rourke Memorial Trophy at the finish. Daniel Cronin, last year’s Kerry Winter Rally winner is another sure to be at the top end of time sheets on Sunday, as a late entry is expected from the West Cork man later this week. The Mitsubishi Lancer E9 driver will have his usual co-driver, Shane Buckley, from Faha, alongside. Welsh visitor Steve Wood, a former Circuit of Munster winner is another regular visitor to Tralee and he has Abbeyfeale’s Keith Moriarty in the hot seat. Moriarty always maintains that the Circuit of Kerry is his home rally and will be hoping to displace the other crews in front and add to his previous Circuit of Munster success. Two contenders in this year’s Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. Brendan Cumiskey and Arron MacHale bring their respective Skoda Fabia R5 and Citroen DS3 R5 rally cars to the event ahead of the next round of that series, the Cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes. The two Leinster-based drivers will be hoping to make the most of their time in the Kingdom this weekend ahead of the county’s second rally at the end of April. Local hero Mick Quinn is facing a race against time to have his Escort ready in time for the event. The former winner of the Kerry Winter Rally was forced to retire from the recent West Cork Rally after his car suffered a serious engine failure. One of Sunday’s stages passes
within a whisker of Quinn’s home place, so he will be pulling out all the stops over the next few days to ensure he is on the start-line Sunday morning. Quinn’s former navigator Sean Enright is another Escort driver on the entry list- the nine-stage rally. Limerick driver Ed O’Callaghan, a former winner of the Clare Stages and on occasion in the past a leader of the Kerry Winter Rally will be another contender for overall honours. Ed Murphy and John McCarthy, from Aghadoe are another crew hoping for a top ten result and will field yet another variation of the ever-popular Ford Escort, as does Timmy Enright from Baenmore and Tommy Mason from Tarbert who are also likely top ten runners. Tom Relihan and Maurice McElligott are another local crew likely to feature in the top ten in their Ford Escort. Pat Barry and Kerry Motor Club secretary Stephen O’Connell have entered their Ford Sierra Cosworth as part of car’s 30th anniversary that will be celebrated on the event. Ger O’Brien form Abbeydorney returns in his Escort, while the Honda Civic line-up will be headed by Darren Young and Sean Walsh and Pat Slattery. The rally gets underway at 0920hrs on Sunday morning before the crews face nine demanding stages in the North Kerry area. Centralised service after each loop is in the main car park of the Rose Hotel with the first pit-stop scheduled for 1155hrs. The first car is due back at the finish ramp at 1715hrs Sunday evening. Late entries are still be accepted and can be directed to clerk of the course Richard Talbot on 00353 87 2680732. Full details of the rally route and entry list will be published in the comprehensive official programme which is on sale in the following Tralee locations: Nolan’s Garage north Circular Road, Rose Hotel, Kellihers Garage, Topaz Rathass, Topaz Mounthawk, Gala Mounthawk, Joe O’Connor’s Filling Station, Foley’s Spar Castlemaine Road, Apple Green filling Station, Manor and O Shea’s Texaco, Blennerville. TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER April 21st. SATURDAY SEMI ON THE LETTERKENNY BASKETBALL COURT: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors are just two wins away from silverware in their debut season as they have qualified for the semi-finals of the Men’s Champions Trophy. They will face Griffith Swords Thunder at 6pm this Saturday in Letterkenny with the final set for 4pm on Sunday. Garveys finished the season just behind Swords Thunder and began their post season with a 82-67 win over Maree to qualify for the semi-finals. Maree had defeated Keane’s Killorglin the week before and started well against Garvey’s leading 22-20 after 10 minutes of excellent perimeter shooting by both sides. Again the second quarter was a tight affair with Warriors up by two at the break 39-41. However the Tralee side showed their SuperLeague experience in the third quarter and with Trae Pemberton, Ryan Leonard and Kieran Donaghy getting on top the gap was out to 12 points at the end of the third quarter and they went on to win by 15.Pembeton top scored with 31 followed by Leonard on 15 and Donaghy on 14. Warriors will need a big performance to defeat Thunder, who finished just above them in the League but it would be a fitting end to a very good season if they can at least reach the Champions Trophy final. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: In the LeeStrand Boys u12 Division 2 St Brendan’s defeated Gneeveguilla 33-17. The home side started the better and were 10-3 up at the break. The Tralee side dominated the second quarter and were 23-4 ahead at the half and continue their good performance into the second half winning by 6 points at the final whistle. The had a much closer game against St Joseph’s but took the win by 2 points 24-22. There was never more than three points between the sides all through the game but the Tralee side were delighted to overturn St Joseph’s who had beaten them earlier in the week and are now top of the table. The team want to wish Sean Naughton a speedy recovery after a recent operation. In the 14’s Division 3 St Brendan’s went down to St Joseph’s 50-26 and to Gneeveguilla 42-38 while the Ladies Division 2 side were beaten 32-58 by St Joseph’s. TRALEE BOXER FIGHTS FOR NATIONAL TITLE: Tralee Boxing Club’s Patrick McCarthy, in the 48kg category, will box for an Irish title on April 8th following his successes at the weekend. The Tralee boxer knew he had to be at his best to defeat St John’s BC fighter Eoghan Quinn, the current
All Ireland champion and European bronze medallist. After a cracking contest the Tralee fighter got the nod 4-1. Onto the semi-final and Baily Marshall (Emerald BC) was his opponent. Again Patrick boxed very clever and got the nod from the judges, again on a 4-1 score. In the final on April 8th Patrick will box Keelyn Roche from St Aidans Boxing Club in Wexford and the current Leinster Champion. Trojan Boxing Club and Cashen Vale will also have boxers in action in National finals in the coming weeks. PARNELL’S NEWS: Parnells was well represented Sunday in The County Finals of Scór na bPáistí. The quiz team was narrowly beaten for 3rd place. Well done to Donncha Buttimer, Ailisha Daughton, Oisin O Sullivan and Anna Kerdzaia. Caoimhe Lyons represented Parnells in the Sean nos dancing Scór county final in Foilmore. She performed magnificently and narrowly missed out on a medal. Congratulations to Ailisha Daughton who won the Scór na bPáistí storytelling county final. The u16’s travelled to Kilmoyley and started well and were leading at half time. But the North Kerry side took control in the second half and ran out winners but the Parnell’s players can hold their heads high after a good performance. They play Causeway this week. Well done to the u10’s who really enjoyed their exhibition game at half time in the Kerry Offaly game in Austin Stacks Park. Parnell’s Easter Camp: This is for 7 to 14 year olds and will take place from Tuesday 11th to Thursday 14th inclusive from 10am to 1pm each day in Casherslee. It costs e25 per player and is open to members and non-members. April 7th Launch Night: The u6’s will restart training on April the 7th and this night will double up as the clubs Official Launch night at the Caherslee Road GAA grounds. Wickow, Donegal and Mayo and are now through to the semi-final that will take place on Saturday April 8th. Seniors: The Kerry Seniors will travel to Dublin on Sunday, April 2nd with the time and venue to be confirmed. Table Quiz to be Re-scheduled: The table quiz did not go ahead as planned last weekend and will be rescheduled. KERINS O’RAHILLYS DANCERS: Strictly Come Dancing: A recommended form of relaxation or relaxation therapy is to “ dance like nobody is watching” well, dancing with 1000 + pair of eyes watching is another matter but that’s just what happened in the Brandon Hotel on Saturday night last at the inaugural never to be forgotten fund raiser. From the moment the dancers took to the floor for their spine tingling opening group dance the atmosphere was electric and the frisson reverberated throughout the auditorium for the following 3 plus hours. After the opening half, the interval was welcomed just to draw breath but the entertainment continued unabated right through each contestant and reached a crescendo with the concluding couples. Each and every contestant contributed in their own unique way to ensure everyone went home with a smile on their face. For the record, Ogie Moran displayed all his dexterity which we so fondly remember him for in his Kerry days ably accompanied by Eileen O’Shea and they were the popular vote winners; Rosie McGrath and her London partner, Dominic Rollo Walker brought the house down with their performance and they too were very popular judges winners. On the night there were no losers - everyone benefited from being present at what was an outstanding event and talk is already turning to next year’s event. Well done to everybody - as chairman Haulie Kerins stated at the end, there has been new life breathed into our club over the last few months and long may it continue. ST PAT’S NEWS: Lotto: There was no winner of the jackpot from the numbers drawn 3,12, 23 and 28 with the next jackpot be e4,400 with the draw in Keane’s Bar on Sunday night. Juvenile News: Well done to Hannah Enright u6’s, Stephen Enright u8’s and Luke Enright u10’s who were named Player of the Week in the various age groups. St Pat’s enjoyed their challenge game against Rahilly’s with every player getting a run out. They have a big game this Sunday as the play away to Beale with a 6.30pm throw in. The Minors only had 13 players on duty for their away game against St Michaels Foilmore where they went down 2-15 to 1-09. But the seniors had no luck in their SFL Division 2 clash. It ended 0-20 to 1-07 to Kilcummin. They have a short break
Friday 31st March 2017
as its not till April 9th when the face Ardfert in the County League. BALLYMAC NEWS: Lotto: There was no winner of the lotto from the numbers drawn 2,8,11 and 20 with the next jackpot bein g a sweet e7,200 and the draw is in the Halfway Bar, In the County League Ballymac had a great win away to Fossa 0-18 to 1-13 in what could be a prequel for the u21 championship. Fossa led by 2 points at the break but by the long whistle it was Ballymac that took the points. Goals win games for the Minors. The Minors defeated Beaufort 4-10 to 0-11 after having the better start and leading by 4 at the break 2-04 to 0-06. In the end they won by double scores and it sets them up for their game against Fossa this evening – Friday. The Senior Ladies went down 5-7 to 3-7 to Fossa in Division 4 –Round 4. They were missing a few starters and were down 5-4 to 1-03 early on but fought back well coming us just short. Juvenile: The u16’s begin their central region league campaign this week as do the u14’s who play Dr Crokes. The u12’s are away to Milltown/Castlemaine with A and B teams in action. The u6’s, 8’s and u10 academy had a good run out on Sunday. The u12 girls had their first game in the North Kerry League Division 1 but they just went down to Abbeydorney 3-04 to 1-07. The Ballymac club congratulated Daire Keane on winning the 40x20 All Ireland u17 title last week winning 21-8, 21-6. Juvenile training continues on Monday nights at 7.30pm. ST BRENDAN’S /OAKPARK COMMUNITY GAMES NEWS: The club’s team in the U13 County Championships put in a great performance winning their first two games. The u0 indoor competition takes place on Sunday 9th of April with the u12 outdoor competition on April 30th. The clubs local area athletics competition will take place on May 11th so all those hoping to take part should be getting ready over the coming weeks.
