LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Siena has bought a large roomy car and is wondering what are the legal requirements in Ireland in relation to child seats for her four children a baby aged 6 months, a two, four and six year old. So what exactly are the Laws governing child safety in the car? At the moment there are 2 laws running concurrently, one older Law applies to the Child’s age and weight and the newer Law relates to the Child’s height (iSize) the latter law will eventually be the sole Law and is expected to result in better child safety and easier to understand rules for parents and guardians. All children under 150cms in height or 36kgs (79lbs) in weight must use a child restraint system (CRS) suitable for their height and weight while travelling in a car or goods vehicle (other than a taxi). An example of a CRS would be a child car seat or booster cushion. As it stands a Rearward Facing Baby Seat must be used by a baby of 29 lbs and under and/or 12-15 months old, importantly, these must never be used in the front seat if there is a passenger airbag, in fact there is now a penalty for drivers who place a rearwardfacing child car seat in the front where there is an active airbag. You may receive at least 3 penalty points on your driving license. Forward Facing Child Seat to be used by a toddler of 20-40 lbs and/or 9 months to 4 years. Booster Seat for a child 33-55Ilbs and/or 4-6 years and Booster Cushion for a child of 48-79 lbs and/or 6 -12 years. It is surprising how many child car seats are fitted incorrectly. Drivers have a legal responsibility to ensure that all passengers under 17 are appropriately restrained in the vehicle also many drivers don’t know that their car probably has an ISOFIX, this is an internationally standardised car seat fitting system. It gives you the safest, easiest and quickest way to fit a child car seat correctly, without using a seat belt, as it is attached to the car’s inside structure, so ask the car seat sales shop to check if your Child’s car seat is fitted securely, they would only be happy to help you and keep the little passengers safe. NORMA FROM PREMIER TRAVEL ANSWERS YOUR TRAVEL QUERIES....
Q: I am a woman traveling solo. What do I need to know about travelling on my own? Stephanie from Tralee Norma says..... Gender should never be an issue or an obstacle to travel, but unfortunately some countries are not as welcoming to women as others, but that does not mean you have to rule them out. If you are nervous these are some good tips: Research as much as possible write down the areas you would like to go to and if you are unsure of the areas or where is best to go, ask your local travel agent, this is what they specialise in, they will be able to recommend you on the best time of year to travel to this area, they can even help you narrow your search to the best options to suit you and your needs. Always know where you are going, research in advance safe neighbourhoods and methods of travel, choose a hotel that is popular and in the centre of the area. When getting a taxi only use certified ones or ask the reception to book a taxi for you. Remember you are a visitor in this country so try to respect the customers and dress codes, a good tip if visiting a Mosque or a religious area bring a scarf this can be used to cover your shoulders or chest area as you may not be left in if you are not dressed appropriately. Make a list of the places you would like to see and the things you would like to do there is nothing worse than returning home from your holiday and regretting you never got to visit that sight or go to go to that beach, if you are traveling a long distance make the most of it and all it has to offer!! Another option for a solo traveler who might like company is to opt for an escorted tour this is a great way to see a country and meet like-minded people and is a good way to get use to traveling alone this will give you the confidence you may need. Find a good travel agent who will help you pick the right group to suit you. The most important thing is to enjoy the trip this is your time for you so make the most of it !

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: APPRENTICESHIPS Question
I’m leaving school soon but I don’t want to go to college. What other options do I have? Answer
You could consider looking for an apprenticeship. An apprenticeship involves on-the-job training with an employer. It will prepare you for work in a specific area or craft such as construction, engineering, motor or electrical. You can find information about different types of apprenticeships on the website apprenticeship.ie. Apprentices get an allowance while training on the job. Their employer pays a recommended apprenticeship wage. The rates of pay can vary, depending on the apprenticeship and on your employer. Generally, rates will rise as you gain more skills. During off-the-job training, a craft apprentice allowance is paid. The allowance is calculated in relation to the take-home wages paid in each trade sector. Sometimes, you will also get a contribution towards travel or accommodation costs.
COMPETITION Win 2 TICKETS to APPLAUSE on Sunday 21st of May at 2.30pm
Q: Name the group presenting Applause? ANSWER: NAME:
It can take two to four years to complete an apprenticeship. To be accepted, you must be at least 16 years of age and have a minimum of grade D in any five subjects in the Junior Certificate or equivalent. Some employers may require higher educational qualifications. If you don’t have the required grades, you can still be registered by an employer as an apprentice if you satisfactorily complete an approved pre-apprenticeship course. To secure an apprenticeship, the first step is to find an employer who employs apprentices in the specific craft or occupation that you are interested in. The website apprenticeship.ie lists websites that advertise apprenticeship vacancies. If you are interested in taking up an apprenticeship, contact the Apprenticeship Section of your local Education and Training Board (ETB) for advice. Hello my beautiful friends, I hope you’re all having a fab week! Last week I was talking about how I went to the fabulous House of Glamour in Tralee to get my nails done, unfortunately the image of my nails got lost in translation so I said I’d put it in this week! I went for a nude ombre effect with mermaid dust on top and I am absolutely obsessed with them. I have had my nails done up in Dublin a few times and I’m not lying when I say that House Of Glamour is a step above than the others. My nails always come out perfect and last at least 4 weeks. House Of Glamour also offers pedicures, shellac, makeup application, waxing, hair colouring and styling and so much more! If you haven’t paid them a visit yet, you should! Still focusing on the amazing businesses of Tralee, last week I popped into Patrick’s The Hair Company to get my hair chopstick curled by the fabulous Anna. I’ve wanted to style my hair this way for a while now as I hails naturally curly hair when I was younger and love the look of it. Big hair is definitely in! I absolutely love how my hair turned out, and it took less than an hour! If you have a lust for curls, pop into Patrick’s The Hair Company and let them work their magic, also tell them I sent you!
As always catch me on all social medias @bexblah and if you want to send me a message email me at bexblahbeauty@gmail.com! Stay glam, stay fab!
I so enjoyed my time at home in Tralee, but for now it’s back to Dublin. But I have big news coming in the next few weeks so keep an eye out!

BEXBLAH
FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK! I’M BACK IN DUBLIN AFTER A FAB TWO WEEKS AT HOME, BACK TRAINING IN THE DARTRY HEALTH CLUB! This week I’m going to be talking all about why low carb diets don’t work. Trust me, I’ve tried them all and the only thing they do is destroy your metabolism.
In other words: Your metabolism might slow, your stress hormones go up and your muscle-building hormones go down.
As a weight loss strategy, cutting carbs (while reducing the total number of calories) clearly works pretty well for some people. If it didn’t, then Atkins would have never been popular in the first place.
Women with too-low carb intakes — especially active women — can face: • a stopped or irregular menstrual cycle; • lowered fertility; • more body fat (especially around the middle); • chronic fatigue and disrupted sleep;
When you cut carbs you initially drop water weight, not fat. So therefore if you cut carbs for 4 weeks for your holiday, you drop weight, mostly water weight. Then the second you start eating carbs again your body will retain more water than before and you will look bloated for your entire holiday, who wants that? No one! Here’s the thing, though: Carb reduction costs us. You see, most of us require some level of carbohydrates to function at our best over the long term. Keeping carbs too low for too long can have disastrous consequences. This is especially true for those of us who work out. If you’re sedentary, your carb needs are lower. So you might be able to get away with more restriction. But if you like to exercise regularly and enthusiastically, restricting your carb intake can lead to: 1. Decreased thyroid output 2. Increased cortisol output 3. Decreased testosterone 4. Impaired mood and cognitive function 5. Muscle loss
16

Everything should be in balance. I’m not saying to eat just carbs and only carbs every day, but I am saying that from experience, lots of women are afraid of carbs and think that they’re bad. What you really need to look at is how much salt and sugar are in your foods.
Now for all MyProtein fans out there or anyone looking to try MyProtein. If you are a new customer or set up a new account and spend over 30 euro, use my code to get 25% off! ‘REBECCA-R5OS’. You’re welcome.
I have said it before and I will say it again… INVEST IN A GOOD PERSONAL TRAINER. It will honestly change your life, and your perception of carbs.

I am also a qualified personal trainer and am continuously educating myself while completing a level 2 precision nutrition qualification. What is nutrition coaching? Nutrition coaching is where we focus on building a good foundation of nutrition through practising healthy habit building and educating over a number of weeks, small changes every day which in turn makes a big change in the long term. Why did you set up Succeed Nutrition? I set up this business because I know from 1st hand experience that diets are just not sustainable for everybody and there is a better way to go about nutrition which is Nutrition Coaching. Who does this suit ? Nutrition Coaching is for everybody, every single person would like to get on top of their eating whether you just want to drop a dress size or you might be wanting to increase your athletic performance.
Follow me:
Succeed Nutrition
Is this just a new fad? No this is not a fad. Fad diets usually don't work and aren't backed by much scientific research, nutrition coaching has been shown to be very effective with science to back it. I'm using the gym, isn't that enough? Going to the gym and doing exercise in general will give you results but only to a certain extent, to get the most out of your training you must be conscious about what you eat and why you're eating it. How do we start this Nutrition Coaching ? We start by meeting in person, completing an assessment . Then we discuss what would be the best plan of action for you and then scheduling appointments in person and over the phone.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2017
Time to pull out the BBQ ! Well its been a hectic week, with the opening of CROI restaurant in the Square,Tralee... So no time to enjoy the fine weather we are having. Dont forget to check the restaurant out on facebook ‘Croi.’ So here are some tasty steak ideas for the B.B.Q this weekend if that fine weather holds up! Balsamic Marinated Flank Steak
BALSAMIC MARINATED FLANK STEAK A balsamic vinaigrette doubles as a marinade here, giving flank steak enormous flavor while its marinated overnight. The dressing comes together quickly in a blender with garlic, rosemary, oregano and a touch of mustard. Serve the sliced steak over toasted bread with grilled vegetables or in an epic steak sandwich. TOTAL TIME: 30 MIN /SERVINGS: 8 / PLUS 4 HR MARINATING
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • •
2 garlic cloves, sliced 1 tablespoon rosemary leaves 1 tablespoon dried oregano 2 tablespoons whole-grain mustard 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for grilling Sea salt Freshly ground pepper One 3-pound flank steak
METHOD
In a blender, combine the garlic, rosemary, oregano, mustard and vinegar and puree until the garlic is minced. With the machine on, gradually add the oil and blend until creamy. Season lightly with salt and pepper Add the meat to a glass or ceramic baking dish and pour all but 1/4 cup of the vinaigrette on top; turn the meat to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 24 hours. Light a grill and oil the grates. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Season with salt and pepper. Grill the steak over moderate heat, turning occasionally, until lightly charred . Transfer the steak to a carving board and let rest for 5 minutes. Thinly slice the meat against the grain and serve, passing the remaining vinaigrette at the table.
SPICED GRILLED T-BONE STEAKS For the smoky rub • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar • 1 tablespoon ground coriander • 1 tablespoon sea salt • 2 teaspoons ground cumin • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika • Combine all ingredients together in a bowl • • • •
Two 1 1/2-inch-thick T-bone steaks (2 1/2 pounds) Smoky Spiced Sugar Rub Extra-virgin olive oil, for brushing Flaky sea salt and cracked pepper, for sprinkling
METHOD Sprinkle the steaks generously all over with the rub and let stand for 15 minutes. Light a grill and oil the grate. Grill the steaks over moderately high heat, turning once, until lightly charred, about 4 minutes per side for mediumrare. Let rest on a carving board for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve.

Say goodbye to dentures and adhesives forever! Are you tired of sore gums, ill fitting dentures and messy denture adhesive? Would you love to smile and eat with confidence?
Teeth in a Day (All on 4) is a proven, revolutionary dental treatment for a patient that is missing all their natural teeth and who is tired of wearing an ill fitting and often sore denture. While there are many options available to people who struggle with an ill-fitting denture, our ‘Teeth in a Day’ (Implant Supported Bridges) offer you the chance to throw your denture away for good and feel the benefits of never having to worry about a denture again. They are a permanent solution that with proper care will never need to be replaced. Implant Supported Bridges are attached to dental implants for a permanent new set of teeth that look and feel natural and are non removable. No more putting your dentures in a glass overnight. Instead you brush your teeth as you would with natural teeth, in fact some of our patients have commented ‘it feels like my own teeth grew back!’
Restore your smile, your chewing ability and your confidence in just one day. Missing teeth causes bone loss. Significant bone loss can shrink the contours of the jaw bone, causing wrinkled lips and a sunken mouth and chin. Teeth in a Day Fixed Implant Supported Bridges are a durable solution with natural looking replacement teeth. There’s no plate. It’s simply secured on four or more dental implants. This solution stimulates bone maintenance, restores chewing function, and gets rid of the uncomfortable and painful feeling of wearing dentures.
Advantages of ‘Teeth in a Day’ Fixed Implant Supported Bridges (All on 4)
• No more painful and ill fitting dentures • Natural looking smile restored • Fully fixed and non-removable • Chewing ability is restored, can chew all types of food • No more removing dentures or denture adhesive • Prevents further bone loss • Go from no teeth, to fixed teeth in one day • Minimal pain/discomfort during procedure • Recovery time is minimal

How it works
At your free consultation, we’ll take the time to listen to you, address your concerns and questions and fully explain the procedure and the options available to you. If you decide to proceed, a full clinical examination will be carried out by Dr. Colm O’Loghlen including X rays and 3D CT scanning. We are one of only a few clinics in Ireland with a CT scanner on site. This minimises patient inconvenience and allows for the most advanced analysis of your teeth and needs. The full implant procedure is carried out in one day. The implants are placed in the morning and you leave that afternoon with fully fixed teeth having thrown your denture in the bin!
Nervous?
If you’re nervous, no problem, the procedure is pain free, and some of our patients elect to have a IV sedation or a mild oral sedative to complete the treatment.
Testimonials “I am so happy. Colm really has changed my life” “I had sedation – the time did fly! I had 4 implants in my upper jaw. I didn’t feel them going in, and it didn’t hurt at all” “My enjoyment of food – the flavour and the texture is just so much better”
LOCAL – Have all your treatment completed in Tralee with Dr Colm O’Loghlen. SAFER – With our own CT Scanning equipment, digitally planning your procedure results in safer implant placement. KINDER – Dr Colm O’Loghlen’s experience, training and technology investment, leads to quicker surgery, reduced swelling and improved recovery time. We’ve just been honored to be announced as the only accredited All-on-4 implant provider in Kerry and Cork. We’ve been recognised due to Dr O’Loghlens extensive experience.

TRALEE EXPO DRAWS THE Huge Crowds turned out on both days to the Bank Of Ireland Tralee Enterprise Town Expo last weekend which was held in Tralee Sports Complex. Photos by Kirk Kelly and Chris Shortt Chris Shortt , Editor of The Tralee Advertiser writes... Last weekend , The Tralee Advertiser took up Gerry Enright’s , Bank of Ireland Tralee, invitation to participate for free, in their Enterprise Town Expo which was held in the landmark Tralee Sports Complex Hall . As part of the original organising committee , I was aware what was going on but on the otherside I was not prepared for what happened over the weekend. Simply put , Tralee inc got up off its backside and put its best foot forward ! And what an atmosphere ....Friday evening had over 120 stands displaying in the business community . The expo was
officially opened by Dragons Den supremo and small business champion Gavin Duffy and this was followed by a great opening “display of local talent “ piece put together by Oliver Hurley . “Said Gavin “ it always amazes me the amount of business that goes on at local level

, small business is the real backbone of this country and to support each other week in week out really generates a lot of business in the community “ “ I took up my post amongst the other business groups , then swiftly abandoned it as I did what all small business are guilty of not doing enough , I started Networking !! I went around the hall a few times met some of my existing customers and then met up with Eamon O Reilly , head honcho of the NEWKD as we went to find the coffee dock . Two things stood out here ..... Firstly the everlasting supply of refreshments that Eileen from Bank of Ireland
had organised and secondly both myself and Eamon came out with the same line “I never knew that this business existed “ ...it seemed to be the common thread throughout the whole show ....that we’re not Networking enough and if we knew that such and such a business existed in Tralee’s
Friday 12th May 2017
greater Urban area then we would deal local! Gerry Pat Eileen and Tom had their team well put together from Bank Of Ireland . Right down to their models taking part in the fashion show . The discussion group chaired by Gavin came out with some great points about Tralee , points that we often take for granted ! It was great to see all the different ways that business were promoting themselves ...a few newcomers commented on how ill prepared they were with point of sale stuff while others had it all , Pop up stands , Flyers , cards , offers , competitions , even sweets ! But that wont go unnoticed and they will pick up ideas for the next one ! Saturdays event was even better ...as Sports and Community was the theme here as over 100 stands took to the Complex , inside and out there was activity everywhere ,, Traffic
jams , Sports blitzes and the evergreen Michael O Muircheartaigh , Zumba , Facepainting , and Lee Strands Mikey Milk . Yes when Tralee gets the opportunity , it really can put its best foot forward ! “We’re really only getting started” said Gerry from Bank Of Ireland ...Next week is Bank of Irelands Enterprise week and a very interesting topic is running in the Tralee branch on Monday morning at 8.15 -9am is called DIGI TRALEE and is a digi event aimed at start ups and retailers with Ken Tobin of HQ Tralee and Ita O Sullivan, Start up Manager with Bank Of Ireland .Contact anyone in Bank Of Ireland Castle St to register for free or go online to https//events.bankofireland. com/event/digi-tralee

However, he had a stutter so all he could say was “I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I”... The drill sergeant looks at him and replies, “OK, YOU ARE NOW IN CHARGE OF THE MACHINE GUNS!”
KING OF THE JUNGLE
A lion woke up one morning feeling really rowdy and mean. He went out and cornered a small monkey and roared, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?” The trembling monkey says, “You are, mighty lion! Later, the lion confronts a ox and fiercely bellows, “Who is the mightiest of all jungle animals?” The terrified ox stammers, “Oh great lion, you are the mightiest animal in the jungle!” On a roll now, the lion swaggers up to an elephant and roars, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?” Fast as lightning, the elephant snatches up the lion with his trunk, slams him against a tree half a dozen times leaving the lion feeling like it’d been run over by a safari wagon. The elephant then stomps on the lion till it looks like a corn tortilla and ambles away. The lion lets out a moan of pain, lifts his head weakly and hollers after the elephant - “Just because you don’t know the answer, you don’t have to get so upset about it!”

CURE FOR A BAD TEMPER.
A woman goes to the Doctor, worried about her husband ‘s temper. The Doctor asks: “What’s the problem? The woman says: “Doctor, I don’t know what to do. Every day my husband seems to lose his temper for no reason. It scares me.” The Doctor says: “I have a cure for that. When it seems that your husband is getting angry, just take a glass of water and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don’t swallow it until he either leaves the room or calms down.” Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn. The woman says: “Doctor that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband started losing it, I swished with water. I swished and swished, and he calmed right down! How does a glass of water do that?” The Doctor says: “The water itself does nothing. It’s keeping your mouth shut that does the trick”.
AND NOW A JOKE FROM OUR READERS... THIS WEEK IS FROM PAT HUSSEY NEW HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER
After retiring, a former Gunnery Sergeant in the Canadian Army took a new job as a high school teacher. Just before the school year started, he injured his back. He was required to wear a light plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn’t noticeable when he wore his suit coat. On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart-ass punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former soldier, were leery of him and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk. With a strong breeze blowing it made his tie flap. He picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.

TORQUING CARS! NISSAN BUILDS SIGNAL BLOCKER INTO CARS TO ELIMINATE PHONE DISTRACTIONS A car manufacturer has developed a compartment that blocks mobile phone signals.Nissan says the prototype Signal Shield, built into the arm rest of its Juke crossover vehicle, will eliminate distractions caused by incoming calls, messages and social media notifications. The box works on the principle of the Faraday cage - invented in the 1830s - which uses material such as a wire mesh to shield its contents from electromagnetic fields. All mobile, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals are prevented from reaching inside the compartment once the lid is closed. Nissan Motor GB managing director Alex Smith said: “Mobile phone use at the wheel is a growing concern across the automotive industry, and indeed society, particularly with the high number of pushed communications such as texts, social media notifications and app alerts that tempt drivers to reach for their devices.”The Nissan Signal Shield concept presents one possible solution for giving drivers the choice to remove all smartphone distractions while driving. This is about delivering more control at the wheel, not less. “Some drivers are immune to the activity of their smartphone, but for those who struggle to ignore the beeps and pings, this concept provides a simple solution in this very connected world we live in.”
JAGUAR LAND ROVER STARTS EDUCATION SCHEME TO COUNTER ‘DEMONISATION’ OF DIESEL
Fears about the “demonisation” of diesel cars after the emissions scandal have forced Jaguar Land Rover to launch an education programme to convince buyers their vehicles are safe. Britain’s biggest car maker has launched a companywide scheme so dealers can reassure customers who are concerned that diesel-powered vehicles could be driven off the roads.News of the plan comes days ahead of the UK Government’s expected announcement of a “scrappage” scheme to incentivise motorists to trade in older, highly polluting diesel cars or retrofit them with systems to reduce their emissions. Nine out of 10 of the 200,000 JLR cars sold in Britain have diesel engines and the company has been getting increasingly worried about the number of enquiries it has had from potential buyers about the impact the fuel type has on air quality. “We’ve had customers asking if diesel is banned or is going to be,” said Jeremy Hicks, JLR’s UK managing director, adding that others are under the impression the company is missing clean air targets and believe huge levies are about to be introduced for diesels. There is no danger of concerns hitting sales - we sell petrol and diesel cars,”said Mr Hicks. “The problem is this is not a simple issue to discuss, it’s the media generating the concerns.” Diesel engines were encouraged by the previous government because they pump out less of the “greenhouse gas” CO2. However, because they run at higher temperatures than petrol engines, they produce more poisonous nitrogen oxides (NOx), though this was not such a concern when diesels were being promoted. New “Euro 6” emissions standards are much tougher and mean the latest diesel cars produce comparable amounts of NOx to petrol cars, along with the same level of “particulates” or soot. “People are confused, and intimidated,” Mr Hicks said. “We are explaining that diesel still produces less CO2 and depending on how you drive and where, you will have different needs.

COLD-HEARTED
My 2013 Ford C-Max was purchased through a main dealer about three years ago, with 9,000 miles on the clock. I drive about 8,000 miles a year and it is serviced regularly through the same dealer. Just before the warranty expired I asked them to look at the climate control as the AC was not working properly. They advised it was due to stone damage to the condenser that was not covered by warranty and that this was a common problem with modern cars. Have I any chance pursuing this matter further? BH HJ ;I don’t think so. Radiators, condensers and heat exchangers are much more vulnerable on modern cars than they used to be.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER because if either of them reach the County SFC they will preserve their Championship status.
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR KERRY SOCCER NO DIFFERENT FROM ANY SPORT: A number of people have been asking if I was going to comment on the recent issues raised in other media regarding the state of soccer in Kerry. Now just in case anyone is not fully aware I am involved in the underage area of the game but I also cover the Junior game - soccer is my main sport. So here are my thoughts. Is Kerry soccer in crisis? The answer is certainly no but that does not mean there are not many challenges in the game in Kerry. Looking positively at Tralee first there are very good numbers playing the game with the major developments at Mounthawk Park being a major factor in this. However there is a difference between a team and a club and Tralee has many teams. Has it too many? This is a debatable point but if they are all fielding teams then you would have to say there are enough players. But what is happening and does negate this argument a little is that players are swopping from team to team and loyalty is not really an issue. We have seen The Park pull their senior team from the League which certainly was not a lightly taken decision but when players don’t want to train and were disrespecting the proud shirt of St Brendan’s Park then they had no option. Tralee Dynamos also had to give a walkover this season and again this was something that was not done lightly and when they did make that call they just did not have the players available. And yes there were a number of walkovers in the last two weeks and no-one, especially not the Kerry District League, are happy with this. But they happen in every sport. Clubs far and wide are finding it hard to field teams, especially in rural areas and you can see the GAA has taken this into consideration by amalgamating clubs to field minor teams in particular. Soccer has managed to keep the majority of its rural teams playing games and along the line you will get walkovers. But when you have dedicated people in clubs these will be kept to a minimum. These are times when players, especially between 16 and 23/24, must take work when it’s available and often this often changes as short notice and so sport loses out.

TRALEE ADVERTISER
Soccer certainly has issues at both junior and underage levels. Should there be more underage clubs in Tralee? Why are there no girls’ or ladies soccer teams in the biggest town in the county? Should the KDL season be shorter and are there changes that could be made to bring this about? These and many other questions are those that those involved in soccer deal with all the time. And will continue to deal with to the best of their ability. Soccer at both underage and junior level is strong, there are huge numbers playing the game. The aim is to continue to work together to develop the game. The u17’s initiative by the KDL is a hugely positive one. There are other examples of positive developments by John Regan and his KDL MC. Have they everything 100% correct? Probably not, but what sports administrators get everything right all the time? The vast majority of administrators put in many hours of unseen work to ensure that their sport goes ahead as best as possible. Where would we be without them? FIXTURE MADNESS IN THE GAA WORLD: Kerry qualified for the Munster Junior Championship final following a 1-12 to 1-09 win over Waterford. The final has been set for this Sunday May 14th in Killeedy near Newcastlewest at 2.30pm. Killeedy is a venue that has been used before but is it a venue for a Munster final. And especially as the Kerry hurlers are playing in Tralee on the same day – at the same time!! Now it was suggested that the games could be played as a double header but reading reports it seems while Munster GAA were ok Munster Camogie said no as they felt it would be wrong to ask supporters to pay e13 when they might only want to see the camogie game. Why not play it after the hurling game? Have a separate gate opened with 15 minutes to go in the hurling game – it is not like there will be thousand’s trying to get in! Then hurling fans have the choice to stay on and support the camogie players. Don’t forget there is host of County Championship games on as well so there are no options for fans to see the big hurling and camogie game and possible their club if it is County Championship
Friday 12th May 2017
action. It has also been pointed out that families could have to choose which sibling to support - this is certainly not ideal. I would presume that when the County Championship dates were decided the hurling date was not known but surely once things were known some changes could have been made in order not to have everything on at the same time and in different venues. But it is what it is and let’s hope that all Kerry sides get the results they need but going forward fixture congestion can be avoided – which to be fair to Fixtures Secretaries / Committees is not an easy task. CRUNCH TIME FOR OUR HURLERS: After starting with a loss Kerry turned it around in their Leinster Round Robin to set up a crunch game with Laois and with a score to settle. Laois’s 1 point win a few weeks ago saw Kerry relegated but now they can put this behind them and hopefully reach a Leinster quarter final. Kerry have to win and with Laois already through hopefully they might have their thoughts on the next round although they will still want to top the group. Kerry will also be keeping an ear on the other game and will want Westmeath to beat Meath so it’s all to play for. Hopefully the crowds will come out and support the hurlers and things go their way as they deserve it for their hard work all season. 8 TO PROGRESS IN COUNTY SFC: The time for talking is over for the teams in the Garvey’s Supervalu Senior Football Championship as 8 games are down for decision. Austin Stacks won’t be taking St Kierans for granted at Connolly Park on Saturday at 6.30pm. St Brendan’s Board are at home in Blennerville where they welcome Kilcummin and will be hoping to make home advantage count on Saturday night. It’s a big game for Rahilly’s on Sunday at 2.30pm in Strand Road. A win against South Kerry is never easy but the Tralee side need to get back to winning ways. DINGLE TO FACE KERINS O’RAHILLYS BUT NOT NOW: Tralee side Kerins O’Rahilly’s will face Dingle in the Senior Football Championship relegation game. But both sides have another chance

THE MIRACLE PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer.
