Welcome aboard the Resilient Lady, Virgin Voyages’ adults-only playground at sea

rriving at Port of Miami’s Terminal V, an immense red neon sign “Ahoy Sailor” is the first clue Virgin Voyages is definitely not like its cruise company peers.

Resilient Lady’s welcome team is led by a joyful woman dressed in red from head to toe. Crew members cheer as sailors (aka passengers) steadily arrive on board, while a DJ spins dance tunes to kick off the party vibes.

Sailing the Caribbean for the winter 2025 season, Resilient Lady officially launched in May 2023 in the eastern Mediterranean. As the third ship in the Virgin Voyages fleet, it continues to stack up accolades; in 2024, the ship was named #1 Best Large Cruise Ship at Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards and #1 Mega Cruise Ship at Travel & Leisure World’s Best Awards.

With Virgin Voyages being an adultsonly brand, Resilient Lady and sister ships Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady have reimagined spaces for the 18+ crowd, creating more areas to work, exercise or lounge and always having multiple outlets nearby to keep the portable electronics powered.

LIVIN’ LIKE A ROCKSTAR

Happily adhering to the irreverent style epitomized by fellow businesses under The Virgin Group such as Virgin Atlantic Airways and Virgin Hotels, Resilient Lady’s spacious staterooms (there are 1,404 in all) are designed in a modern style with abundant tech amenities. Cabins are decorated in neutral tones of white, light wood, navy and Virgin’s signature scarlet red, and include a cozy red throw and handwoven red hammock on every balcony.

The cabin’s tablet offers a detailed ship’s guide, serves as a central control for temperature and lighting, and also provides links to see or listen to entertainment on a bigger flatscreen TV such as live news, sports, films, TV series and music playlists to suit a variety of moods. There’s plenty of storage in the bathroom and closet, refillable carafes with still and sparkling water and affable crew available 24/7 to ask for additional necessities. And bonus? Wi-Fi is available for all passengers throughout the ship.

Travel advisors can encourage an upgrade to one of the 78 RockStar Quarters, Resilient Lady’s suites curated by contemporary British designer Tom Dixon. There are two options – Mega RockStar and RockStar Quarters, both featuring a separate VIP access area for embarkation.

Suites include king beds, a brass vanity area, marble bathrooms with porthole windows and Peek-a-Boo showers, larger balconies, expanded complimentary mini-bar and a turntable and selection of vinyl from the early days of Virgin Music.

The Massive Suite is the ultimate flex for honeymooners or couples wanting to celebrate like an A-lister: 2,147 square feet of stylish accommodation featuring a personal music room and an outdoor hot tub on a sprawling terrace. All RockStars receive access to Richard’s Rooftop on deck 17, a members-only sundeck with lavish happy hour cocktails and extensive areas for sunning or star gazing.

PASSING THE TIME

For passengers wanting to workout, there are numerous options. B-Complex is the in-house gym and offers Technogym equipment, fitness classes, a cycling studio and a Training Camp for group workout sessions. Flooded with natural light, the gym has views of the Well-being pool deck and the sea as and is close to the Gym and Tonic Bar where fresh-pressed juices are available.

Runners and walkers can loop The Runway on deck 16 (four laps is just over a kilometre), while there are additional outdoor areas for stretching, not to mention The Perch for yoga. Post workout, The Sun Club offers chilled libations overlooking the pool.

Guests can reward themselves with a visit to the Redemption Spa featuring traditional face and body therapies and the Tune Up, a medi-spa for Botox, fillers or IV therapy. The spa also includes the thermal suite, a hydrotherapy circuit with hot and cold plunge pools, sauna, steam and salt zones, lounge areas and the mud room. Splash out at the Dry Dock beauty salon for a cut, curl or styling, or Stubble & Groom for hair and facial hair maintenance.

Time on board can also be passed at The Net, a suspended catamaran net allowing an almost bird’s eye view of The Wake far below,

and at The High Street retail zone featuring men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, a boutique dedicated to Virgin Voyages’ tempting scarlet red merchandise and a shop with all the toiletry essentials. There’s also Squid Ink, a tattoo parlour for a permanent trip souvenir, Voyage Vinyl, a record shop with listening stations, special vinyl editions and music magazines, and The Arcade with free access arcade games, no quarters required.

TO BE ENTERTAINED

Kick off an evening with time at The Casino, where points can be earned for free play offers, free drinks or complimentary cabins, Guests can also show off dance moves at The Manor, named for founder Richard Branson’s first recording studio, a sexy and glittery bi-level dance club with three bars.

Make sure to procure tickets for The Red Room, an event space by day and a performance space by night where, on Resilient Lady, cruisers can take in the immersive theatrical production Persephone, a risqué retelling of a Greek tragedy. This hour-long performance is where Cirque du Soleil meets Mad Max in song, dance, acrobatics and theatrics.

Also not to be missed is The Groupie, one of three karaoke rooms on board. If that’s not up your alley, you can choose from one of many bars on board, like Sip (the champagne lounge), On the Rocks (for a classic cocktail) and The Aquatic Club (for a mojito or rum punch). Be sure to enjoy a drink before the themed parties roll out at 10 p.m. on the pool deck, popular ones being sexy Scarlet Night and the fun-filled PJ Party during which revellers often end up in the pool!

By day The Social Club is the place for board games, air hockey and trivia with a side of pub grub like tasty wings, soft pretzels or popcorn. During evenings, this space becomes The Loose Cannon Bar, a nautically-inspired dive bar with the must-try Shoctopus, an octopus stand with five shots.

A TOAST TO DINING

With 20 dining options on board, there is a plethora of options from before sunrise to after sunset.

Go for afternoon alfresco dining at The Dock, or for acoustic music, mezze, drinks or mocktails at the adjacent Dock House. The Grounds Club is the welcome hangout for coffee fanatics, while The Draught Haus welcomes beer fans to indulge in a sampling of artisanal brews.

For anytime dining and a variety of seating options, The Galley is a modern cafeteria inspired by food trucks and designed by British architect Softroom. Everything is complimentary, from the bakery and pastry shop, with choices that include tacos, burgers, paninis, sushi and a noodle bar.

Located near the Draught House, two more fast-casual options include The Pizza Place, an old school-styled resto in red and white that dishes out custom pies with a choice of toppings, and Lick Me Till...Ice Cream serving flavoured cones and ice cream plus options for vegans.

For fine dining options, which include Razzle Dazzle, Pink Agave, Extra Virgin, Gunbae and The Wake, be sure to use the Virgin Voyages app to make reservations.

Razzle Dazzle offers a contemporary twist on American cuisine with a balance of meaty, veggie and vegan menu options including fried chicken with hot buttered cholula sauce and heirloom squash ravioli with braised chestnuts and arugula.

Diners will think they’ve been transported to Mexico City with the menu items offered at intimate Pink Agave designed by Tom Dixon. A shareable selection of small plates includes aguachile with tuna, jicama and avocado and the bistec marinaro en escabeche, a marinated ribeye steak grilled with chile ancho and quesillo.

When dining at Extra Virgin, begin the meal with an aperitivo in preparation for classic Italian dishes like gnocchi in truffle butter sauce or oxtail agnolotti. Save room for sweet options from the gelato cart or an affogato, an espresso topped with whiskey crema or vanilla gelato.

The Wake, meanwhile, is a 21st-century version of an old school steakhouse with plenty of surf and turf on the menu. And Test Kitchen is perfect for adventurous foodies, known for a six-course tasting menu that showcases the chef’s skills and imagination.

From Richard’s Rooftop to The Galley, from The Social Club to The Red Room, Resilient Lady makes for a memorable fun-filled voyage, The Virgin Way.
